Early visit. As I was staying in Wrexham I thought I'd make a visit to the Hampden. I use to manage it a long time ago, phew looking good the place was nice and clean and the beer was great. Wish I could have stayed longer but I had the car, maybe next time

Firstly, as a warning to anyone looking to book a large group stay at this "hotel" - Don't! After having a friend's stag do planned through Designaventure Ltd, we stayed at the Queens Hotel as part of the package, and suffice to say, we were not happy with the accommodation provided. As a group of 10 people, we obviously weren't expecting to be staying at a swanky hotel for the price we paid (£49 per-person for 1 night B&B). However, we certainly expected better accommodation than what we were provided. If you are booking as a group of more than 6 people, then the Queens Hotel is not the place to go, as they seem to only have 2 actual hotel rooms in the main building. The other 5 rooms are in a dilapidated old dormitory section of the building, which had loud, hollow-sounding floorboards and disgustingly filthy floors and walls. Upon arrival, we were divided into 4 rooms and found that the keys were left in the locks, which meant that anyone in the building could've easily accessed the rooms we paid for before we even arrived. Additionally, the dormitory section of the building was left completely open to the public throughoutout our stay, as the front door always seemed to be unlocked. The only security we had were flimsy, easily broken Yale latch locks on each of the bedroom doors. The rooms didn't have any bathrooms, so it was all communal. Normally this wouldn't be too much of an issue, but the shower cubicles and toilets were all on the ground floor in the same unlocked room, which was only 7-8ft away from the unlocked building entrance... It wasn't exactly a pleasant experience being in a shower behind a thin nylon curtain, knowing that literally anybody from the outside could've just come waltzing in without any warning! All of the rooms had bunk beds, which were missing screws, or generally just falling apart. One of our group member's beds didn't even have any covers on it, so it was just an uncovered mattress with a bare quilt and pillow. None of the rooms had any basic amenities like towels or soap and as some of us weren't prepared for this (due to not being informed beforehand by the hotel or by Designaventure) we had to go and buy some from the local Tesco. The light bulb for the bedroom I stayed in stopped working and we found a very deep, diagonal crack across the wall by the stag's bedroom that spanned from floor to ceiling, which suggests that that part of the building is in a state of serious disrepair and is a potential safety risk. We tried to inform the landlady about some of our issues the following morning, but all we got was a very lacklustre "sorry" and no real form of apology or compensation. Also, even though the breakfast was being prepared as we came down to check out, it was assumed by the landlady that everyone's breakfast would be the same (bacon, sausage, egg, beans and toast) without actually asking any of us what we wanted. Of course, we were a fairly large group, but it still doesn't take a huge amount of time to just ask people what they want. You should never assume when it comes to people's food. It's basic common sense and should be common practice for any hotel etc that serves food, as there could be allergies or intolerances to consider. You may end up making someone seriously ill if you're not careful. Overall, not a good experience and put a very sour note on what was supposed to be a fun weekend of celebrating.

This Kebab shop is the heart of Cefn Mawr! The food is really good, they do donner meat to perfection, and the chips are perfect. Located at the high street so it's not far from a pub and other shops. Atmosphere is pretty nice as they have a TV you can watch while you wait for your food. I think walking up that hill can be a little struggling especially for the disabled because it's located on top of the high street hill. But apart from that, great kebab shop!

The food was delicious and expertly made. Fresh ingredients, made to order and plenty for next days tea.
