The best restaurants in Helmingham and Coddenham Mid Suffolk East of England

Really lovely community pub. We’re just visiting whilst on holiday and discovered that non- members are welcome. Really friendly locals and good beer selection- recommend! Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area

Helmingham Hall is a delight. The gardens are extremely well maintained – it seems by magic because there are not the dozens of people that it must need to keep it looking so good and changing it through the seasons. We are members of the Historic Houses Association so we have free entry – and we go there often. It’s inevitable that we stop off at the café; either for an evening meal after one of the summer late closings, or as on this occasion for breakfast. Not a traditional breakfast. I had a delicious cheesecake and a nice strong coffee. Others in the family had avocado on sourdough with bacon (intriguingly sweet), poached eggs and pea shoots. The younger ones had a sausage roll (they were expecting a massive fry up! Not here matey). I cleared up the crumbs of the sausage roll– it was in the top 3 of sausage rolls, possibly number 1. It’s all served by a team of smiley people and the café outside space is wonderful with hanging baskets all perfect with not a dead flower to be seen. How do they do that? It did help that it was a fabulously warm day!

Stopped for lunch here, most of the seating area was shut off and only approx 5 were open, there were about 5 or 6 customers in total so it wasn't busy yet both bins were full most tables were dirty as well as seats and the floors I had to brush food off the seat so I could sit down for my lunch. I did tell a staff member about the full bin but he seemed to not care Food was medicare with some cheap cheese sauce and the fries were drowning in salt

The place is absolutely filthy. Dull, depressing just rough. The croissant was burnt on the outside and raw dough in the middle. I can confirm the "coffee" was a liquid. Wasn't brave enough to use the toilets.
