Had to pop into Woolpit to pick up some garden stuff, its only 8 minutes down the road. Decided to take home some fish and chips as we were passing the shop. Quantity excellent, in fact far too much for a couple of old codgers. Service was OK trouble is the batter was quite thick therefore not cooked right through and was soggy on inside. Fish itself was ok although not completely cooked. Overall I was somewhat disappointed especially as it is not cheap nowadays. Will stick with the F&C at Thurston, service could be better but the F&C is first class.

Tonight was my third visit , I only ever order fish and the batter was 💯 perfect ! I don't imagine the fish is fresh , but it's done so well it tastes as though it is . Every time I visit the area this place would be my choice.....

Use this chip shop frequently. Chips are always 5*, fish is great and the sweet and sour chicken balls are a nice addition to the menu too. Staff always very friendly, big fan of this chippy!

Can’t understand any negative reviews about this fish and chip shop. We have been here a few times this year, and we have never been disappointed. Not only is the fish really fresh and tasty, with crispy batter, but I think they might also use the pin bone method of removing fish bones. I personally have a real paranoia towards bones in fish - if I found one, I would not be able to finish the fish. I have NEVER found a bone and am able to just “tuck in” and enjoy. Chips are really good too. Well done, and we wish you every success in what must be a very difficult period of time for any business.

Love the Woolpit Fish and Chip shop! We often stop by and grab some sausage & chips and sit on the bench outside on the triangle. The staff are lovely and the food is always nice. Just a shame they don't open on a Sunday lunchtime when you really fancy some hot salted chips.

Service was quick and food was of good quality. Yes there was a little grease but it’s deep fried food ... what do you expect really. We will definitely come again.

Wow, I just can’t understand the mixed reviews here!?! If you don’t order ahead they will cook the fish and chips fresh...but they taste great. Always fresh and always tasty the cod is perfect. I’ve also had butterfly prawns, scampi, sausage, onion rings, pies, and of course the battered mars bar...all great. The chips are super tasty and sold in proper portions. I think the answer is, if you want to have chips that are overcooked and taste like cardboard on a mid-week evening because you don’t want to wait...then there are plenty of other places you can go to. If you plan 30 minutes ahead and want to have great tasting food from a takeaway who really care about the quality, then this is the place for you!

We've given up with this place after several times of waiting up to an hour (and never under 40 minutes) for fish which is undercooked and greasy, and chips that look and taste as if they've been waiting for hours also! Very generous portions, but don't really care.

We called ahead with our order and it was ready within 15 minutes. Best fish and chip shop around, generous portions and such light fluffy batter on the fish!

Well-cooked and tasty. Light, fluffy batter and not greasy at all, which I'm afraid was sometimes the case with the past couple pf proprietors. Just a shame that everything is cooked in beef fat, so my vegetarian daughter cannot even eat the chips. Not good in this day and age - a re-thought required there. A bit of a wait (35 minutes from order to carrying it away) BUT everything was cooked fresh to order and my visit was at 7.20 on a Friday night. Worth the wait.

I see the reviews are a real mixed bag, but I think maybe the shop has changed hands since the more positive reviews. Although there were only four customers in front of me, I queued for over an hour, having just left off work after a long and busy day. I had cod and chips and my son had battered sausage and chips.... He said the sausage was tasteless and the batter too greasy to enjoy. The chips were ok(ish) The cod was small, and considering what I paid for it all, really not worth it. I was left with a horrible greasy mouth that actually made me feel sick. The whole meal tasted like old oil. The irony is that I wanted a quick meal after a long day and ended up waiting a long time for something that didn't taste good. I won't go again I'm afraid.

People running are reasonably friendly however the smell and taste of their fish and chips reminds me of old cooking oil. It really isn't something I could get used to, sorry guys but the batter is poor too.

I live local to this chip shop and we only go here when we are really desperate but this will be the last visit! Portions are small and the quality is very poor. The sizes of the fish are smaller than anywhere I know. Chips are small and full of scraps - see picture. I ordered a large cod which as always is equivalent to a small or medium max! Half of my chips were all tiny hard scraps/off cuts. Not worth the money.

It’s a really poor fish shop but due to rural location, not so easy to go elsewhere. Chips are re fried, so part cooked and then re cooked which makes them hard and tasteless and awful. Some people might enjoy that but me, no. Batter is white not golden. The actual fish etc is all fine but frozen fish not fresh. Service is lovely and prices are higher than most. If you can avoid, go further down the road and find a better fish shop

Was slightly disappointed today after getting our fish and chip takeaway home to find our order was not what we had ordered. When we called to inform the lady of their mistake she asked what we had been given and said that we had only been charged what we had bought home and not what we had ordered so we were not out of pocket! However we would of rather had the correct order!

my order was large fish and chips, jumbo sausage, quarter pounder with cheesy chips, the fish was small the burger was awfull, and there was hardly any cheese on the chips and what cheese was there was stuck to the paper, they should have been in a box, the wehole lot was terrible and thrown in the bin, a complete waste of money and will NEVER use again.

On our various trips to Woolpit, we have visited the Chippie several times, and their fish and chips are always reliable - hot, tasty and good value. The portions are huge and really filling, yet there is no residual greasy taste in the mouth; since our last visit, the proprietors have changed from a conventional batter to a breadcrumb envelope on the fish, and this adds a new and interesting lightness to the meal. We are always drawn to eateries that are frequented by the locals, and this Chippie is invariably busy with people who seem to know each other and the proprietors well, so there can be no higher recommendation in our eyes. Living by the sea as we do in North Wales, we are used to excellent local fish in our chippies, and we cannot believe how an inland chippie can be so good. I should also add that their prices are very reasonable for a really filling meal. This Chippie is an absolute wow which is not to be missed if you are in the area.

Chips are an anaemic soggy mess & totally inedible. They are clearly overloading the fryer therefore reducing the heat. It's the same for the battered sausages which are completely tasteless. We live in the village & this seems to be the norm for them. I'm not going to bother anymore.

This was ok, not neccesarily the best tasting, just a little bit of a tang to the taste which shouldn't be there in Fish and Chips.

Wow - what a find! Living near a fishing port, we are used to excellent fish and chips, but this place was an amazing find. We went there twice, and sampled the cod as well as the scampi, and the great strength of this shop is that the food is not at all greasy, just very tasty. Everything is cooked to order, so there is no risk of life-expired chips, just excellent food. We look forward to returning on our next visit.

I’ve recently moved to Rickinghall & had the great pleasure of enjoying my first fish & chips a few weeks ago which was excellent except unfortunately my cod was missing from my order which is why I’ve only given 4 stars & I didn’t realise until I’d got home 🙈thankfully my husband had ordered a large cod so we could share but thought I better let you know. It certainly won’t stop me from visiting again😜

The fish and chips used to be excellent but the last good quality food I had from here was in spring 2023. Not sure if the owner changed but food certainly. The cod is always very good, but the chips are actually not edible each time. The smaller chips are so dry and hard that they go to bin each time. Only the larger chips are ok. Yesterday I ordered chicken strips and they were hard and dry. Looked and tasted like they were re-heated or re-cooked. What happened to this quality chip shop?
