Lovely owners and regulars on the Artisan Market in town. Their locally produced home-baked foods are a delight and reasonably priced too.

Had a lovely lunch there today including a super fish stew. Great food very good service made to feel very welcome. The owner a real character with a real love for his food. The cakes are homemade and sheer temptation. Coffee very good as is the beer. I am very much a convert and going again

We discovered this lovely little Portuguese cafe on a quiet Saturday afternoon! We ordered three meals and some food for our little one! The quality of the coffee and the sandwiches was superb - with a Portuguese theme to the menu for some of the items! The owner was very friendly and the food was delicious! I would highly recommend a visit here anytime you are in Newcastle! You will not be disappointed.

Almost hidden in the Astley Walk arcade, but the coffee is superior to nearby chain outlets. The food is excellent too. We had a Halloumi salad, and a steak sandwich (a prego in Portugese), both tasty. Two Portugese cakes to finish. This place is a real find.

My mum and I had 10 mins to kill whilst we awaited for Kirkhams to open after their lunch break! let’s have a brew! We went in the arcade and as a wheelchair user found a ramp into the windmill cafe! The place itself was immaculate, very clean and the owner assisted me with my mums wheelchair! We checked the drinks menu on the wall and ordered tea for one and a cappuccino! The owner explained he would be cooking the meal for the other people that were in the cafe before us! However he bought the drinks and took my order! We ordered sandwiches! I ordered a traditional Portuguese pork sandwich and mum had tuna mayonnaise with salad! The owner explained to me that the pork sandwich was usually served with mustard! I said I would try it! Well wow we wow, our sandwiches arrived about 15 mins after we had ordered! Evidently cooked fresh and oh yes they were wonderful! They were so tasty, we could smell the garlic that was on my traditional Portuguese pork sandwich! The bread was gorgeous and the pork so tender! Mum and I have a small appetite so we could only manage half of our sandwich, the owner wrapped them up and we bought them home! At 7:30pm that same day we ate our other half again it was just as wonderful as when we had it at lunch time, except my pork one wasn’t warm, it made no difference though!!! We shall definitely be returning as we want to try the omelettes as the two ladies recommended them! I can’t wait to return for a warm welcome from the owner and amazing food! Very impressed with this place , it’s a shame it’s so hidden in that arcade!!! The price was very reasonable at £13.50 for two people that really enjoyed lunch and evening meal!!!! Top quality!!!

Super friendly bistro with authentic Portuguese food. We had lunch here today, my tuna salad was fantastic!! I can also highly recommend the cakes which are all homemade by Anna! Bonus at the moment for me is the fact you can sit outside but because it’s in a small arcade you are sheltered from the weather!!

I had a small English breakfast here today, ( Saturday ), which was cooked in less than 10 minutes to order, with a choice to swap out bacon, ( which I dislike ) for an extra egg, which was greatly appreciated. I was given a warm and friendly service from Victor, one of the owners, who was very helpful and polite. It was a calm and relaxing experience, with great table service. I intend to try the Portuguese menu on another day, probably in the evening, when it's open as a Bistro, as it has a licensed bar and traditional Portuguese food. Tucked away inside Astley Walk, just off the top end of the High Street and Haymarket, it's quite hidden away, but it had a relaxed and homely atmosphere - A rarity these days.

We arrived about 10 mins after a table of 10 so had a bit of a wait for the main courses. Friendly and attentive staff served us with a delicious cheese made from a mixture of cow's and sheep's milk served with bread Our beers which I've forgotten the names of were all good. My main was chicken in a cream sauce, fresh cooked chips (not fries and not triple cooked, just excellent chips), and a tip top fresh salad. All was great,we were well looked after and well fed. The Windmill is a bit hidden away but well worth a visit.

We were looking for a coffee and wanted something other than the big name chains and we found this little place. We weren’t sure as it was empty, but we tried it anyway and got a wonderful surprise. Excellent coffee,, lovely snacks and friendly service and the surprise was that the place was so clean and well kept even the toilets, spotless!! We will be using this place again!!

Went for impromptu evening. this is a cafe in the day and bistro in the evening. Even Portuguese TV on. Victor is one of the owners, front of house very welcoming. We ordered from daily specials, and an authentic salt cod dish, which they made from scratch so had a bit of a wait. Had lovely cheese, olives, warm bread and wine while we waited. Food was good, simply presented, nice flavours. Huge portions !. We loved the relaxed atmosphere. Don't come here if you want fine dining, this is casual, fun, different for the town. People working hard to bring something new. Nice wine, great welcome. No custard tarts left, I'll be back to try some.
