An unplanned visit. Just popped in for lunch as I'd read some really good reviews recently. Ordered a diet coke.. was served brown coloured water, took it back to the bar and the waiter who served it said there was a problem with the 'pump'. (Why serve it then?) Got my large coke replaced with a small bottle of diet coke. Food was ok. Garlic mushroom starter was a little bland but the perfectly poached egg on top was lovely. Fish and chips main course.. really good piece of fresh white fish in light crispy batter, big chunky chips but served on the smallest rectangular plate (mine was chipped quite badly) came with a tiny ramekin of minted mushy peas and tartar sauce. Bit disappointed after reading such good reviews to be honest but it hasn't put me off and we would go again.

First time trying here & was expecting a fantastic meal with reading reviews.... My husband had from the special board... No complaints. I picked from the regular menu. Cheese pie with chips... The pie was decent, the chips have to be the worst I've EVER tasted....like old warm ups, dry & tasteless resembling cardboard & they came salted.... Why?? Isn't that the choice of the person eating them? So disappointing, came away gutted! Yes I complained quietly, so they knocked off 4 quid for the chips... So basically I had a pie & paid £14 for it... No side of veg etc... pitiful really. But we tried it, not for me /us I'm afraid... I'm not fussy, & give an honest review. On the plus side the glass of pinot was nice.

A lovely place to eat, the food was excellent and a good variety for all dietary needs, vegan, vegetarian, flexitarian etc. The beer and lagers were really good too 😋 The staff were friendly and efficient making sure our dog had water and a couple of treats. I really liked the decor too, great place.

Be warned no disabled toilet !!! Very disappointed indeed and not acceptable in 2024 to take a booking and have tamp access without saying there is no disabled toilet.

Quality food and good atmosphere...can't go wrong, prices reflect quality of food and good beer

Having heard some very good reports about this place I had really been looking forward to visiting it. We had recently visited the Britannia Tap and Grill. Our meal there had been very good and our server had recommended the White Bull to us. I believe these establishments are closely linked and share some of the same staff. Unfortunately I have to be honest and say I wasn’t impressed. Sadly it was a major disappointment. I ordered the gammon, egg and chips which was £17.00. My brother went with the steak and ale pie priced at £18.00. So not cheap when compared with many other local establishments. I had asked for a soft yoke on my egg. The receipt confirms this. However, although the yoke was still slightly soft the white of the egg was crispy around the edges. Obviously a sign that the egg had been put into the oil at too high a temperature. In hindsight I should have sent it back. I can’t say that I was impressed with the size of the portion I got. The gammon was okay but only half a tomato, one small mushroom and a relatively small portion of chips. And the presentation on the plate wasn’t the best. My brother did say that his steak pie was full of meat, very tasty and piping hot. But again the portion of fries was quite small and, at £18, this was more expensive than similar options in other establishments. Right at the start when looking at the menus I had noticed that they did a Baileys cheesecake with rum and raisin ice cream. On our earlier visit to the Britannia I had ordered cheesecake there and it was lovely so I asked about this dessert even before ordering my mains. Our server said they had none left but he did recommend the sticky toffee pudding. Thought it a little strange that they had run out of a dessert only about 2 hours after opening. There were a few other customers in but it wasn’t that busy. After our mains we were both still hungry so we decided to go for the small pudding with a hot drink option. Based on the server’s recommendation we both ordered the sticky toffee pudding and a cappuccino. No issues with the cappuccino. That was good. When the sticky toffee pudding arrived it was a huge portion. This surprised us as it was supposed to be the small pudding option. Unfortunately it was inedible. I barely managed two bites. It tasted stale. Both of us left it although the ice cream that it came with was lovely and we finished that. When our server came to clear the plates I explained that we could not eat the puddings. He apologised and, when he came back from the kitchen, he informed us that we would not be charged for them. He knocked the full amount off including the cost of the coffees even though I pointed out there was nothing wrong with them or the ice cream. The young man who served us was friendly, good humoured and efficient. Had it not been for the service from him, and his female colleague, and the fact that he had got the cost of the puddings removed from our bill I would probably have given only two stars for this review. I don’t like to leave poor reviews. I want to enjoy our trips out and I try to find something positive about every meal we have. Unfortunately the overwhelming memory of this visit will be one of disappointment. In summary I thought the food we had was overpriced. The mains portions were small and the dessert we were served was totally unacceptable. We could be wrong but the impression we got was that the server had been told to push this. And as it was a huge portion we left with the view that they were trying to shift it. I just feel that there are other places offering far better value for money and, if I was in the area again, I would rather visit their sister establishment, the Britannia Tap and Grill.

Super country pub, restaurant quality food, really good wine list and friendly staff. We shared the bread, oil and balsamic starter. For main my wife had the gammon, with fresh pineapple, I had the duck which was really, really good. Allthough we were disapointed that the cheese board on the web site menu had been taken off the actual menu. 😳

Service is extremely good. Food was very good but a little on the expensive side. The price does not match the pub. Nice cutlery etc in an old fashioned pub very peculiar mix. I'd update the pub to match the food prices.

Visited last Friday evening. Super and varied menu to suit all. The food was delicious and all of our dishes were served as a complete meal with accompanying vegetables and potatoes, which annoyingly is becoming increasingly rare! There was a lovely pub atmosphere, front of house excellent ! Thank you had a great evening

Got vouchers for Christmas, glad we did as we would never have found this gem. The food is incredible, staff are fantastic, can't give a higher score on atmosphere as it was a random Monday afternoon when we went so was always going to be quieter. Can't wait to visit again.

Lovely little pub serving hearty, top quality food! The pies are something special- rustic but busting with amazing flavour and good quality ingredients! All the dishes we had were delicious and well priced! I would definitely recommend this place for a quick M6 detour. Also- super dog friendly which is a big bonus! I can see why this place features on the Michelin Guide, we will be back for more!

What a lovely, warm and welcoming place to eat. The staff were really friendly and helpful. There was a log fire burning which was so lovely.... it was minus 1 degree outside. The food was delicious and very generous portions. Couldn't eat it all so they boxed it up for me. Great menu. Loads to choose from. Definitely worth the drive out.

Decent place, this. The food was decent, and the atmosphere was fine for a Monday. Something that did stand out, for me, was the service. The guy who took our orders remembered who had ordered what, which is something I've only experienced at a few other places before.

Lovely little find. The service was professional yet friendly, the food was delicious, couldn’t fault a thing (the best chunky chips I’ve had). The place had a very cosy, relaxed atmosphere. Just wish we had taken photos but we were too busy enjoying the food. We will definitely be returning, thank you.

Nous avons déjeuné ici pour la première fois et nous avons été très impressionnés. La tarte au steak et à la bière était excellente, tout comme la tarte aux oignons au fromage et à la bière. Une personne a pris une entrée de njuda, qui était également très bonne. Deux desserts de petits fours et un de brownie au chocolat - tous très bons. Le café a été servi avant les petits fours, ce qui était un peu bizarre. Nous reviendrons certainement et nous essaierons quelque chose de moins traditionnellement anglais/britannique. Service excellent. Cadre agréable et chaleureux du pub, feu de bois. Pas de parking, mais il y avait de nombreuses places de stationnement sur la route à l'extérieur lorsque nous sommes arrivés. Classé au Michelin.

Excellent food, beers, wines etc. The Lancashire cheese pie was outstanding, and the addition of Hendo’s Sheffield sauce ( Far better than Worcester sauce) gives it the edge!! I have several bottles in our kitchen!! You must never run out of Hendo’s!!

Went on a Sunday, it's quite a small choice available on this day. Maybe not enough for some people. Food was spot on, on the high side for prices but was very good well presented tasty food.

Unfortunately, I was not impressed by the food. Its a real shame, maybe i got unlucky, but as a Michelin recognised establishment I expected much more.

Compliments to the chef and all the staff. Very unassuming from the outside, but once inside the food, the staff and the atmosphere were all excellent.

We tried the White Bull on a midweek evening. It was quiet, but we were welcomed well. The food was excellent, and above regular pub standards by quite a way! Unfortunately, the real ale selection was limited. We did have the ale that was on, and it was perfectly good - but more of a choice would take this from a good pub, to a really excellent one. It is worth noting that there was a good choice of lager - just not our scene. We would happily visit again.

Best pub in Lancashire. Callam and team have done an awesome job to get this pub where it is today. The food, specifically the burgers and steak and ale pies are 10/10. Have had a few disappointing meals this year but this place hasn’t let me down.

It's a delightful gastro pub. Very busy as it was Saturday. We found it a bit noisy but bearing in mind it was a Saturday and a popular venue it was understandable.

Had a celebration 🍾 meal 😋 at the weekend excellent food and the chef puts his own twist on it to make it quite individual. Lots to choose from the menu and you will not be spoilt for choice. Well looked after by the staff to make it a very pleasurable visit 😀.

Wonderful food, really lovely, I had haddock and the batter was the lightest I've ever tasted, the fish was moist and flavoursome, chips were amazing, my daughter had the burger, again it was divine. All table service . The open fire was blazing, warming the room, the place was impeccably clean, tables set ready for customers. In the toilets there are a range of helpful products available for use by guests. I don't live close by but it's worth the 40 minute drive for food of this quality.

Had a nice meal here on a Monday night. Staff were pleasant, there was an open fire burning and food was good and portions were very generous! The hot drink and petit fours were a very good deal.

We popped along for lunch and found this to be as expected, fantastic. I had the cheese pie which to be fair, was immensely filing and extremely tasty. My partner had a salmon and rice dish with Thai green curry sauce. She stated that it was amazing! As we went for lunch, the place wasn't full so the atmosphere was a tad quiet but, I suspect in an evening it would be great. A fantastic pub for food or, just for popping in for a drink. Very friendly staff and dog friendly! Go, you won't be disappointed.

What a wonderful lunch today. Called in unexpectedly as other plans gsd to be cancelled and boy was I glad, was our first visit but certainly not our last as food all courses was amazing. Great service from owner so lovely and gelpful. Starters was tempura king prawns for my husband and smoked mackerel pate for me, both with fabulous accompaniments, mains steamed mussels with thai broth, fries and lovely bread for hubby and mine onevofvthe best fish pies I have had the pleasure to eat, with mangetout, samphire and spring onions all beautifully cooked, buttered and seasoned. I live in Royton in Oldham, but I support my Sister on Fridays and Sundays (She is a Cancer survivor) Sunday's we go for a good walk, followed by a nice lunch, (She has recently moved to Oswaldtwistle) so I drove over, today and we went for a walk round 'Peel park, and the Coppice circular' in Accrington which was great , followed by lunch at 'The White Bull in Oswaldtwistle', the Pub/Restaurant is open to people who just want to have a drink, it is dog friendly, it is beautifully designed and decorated inside, not too overdone (including the toilets) and we were welcomed as soon as we entered by the Manager/Owner, who was so accommodating, friendly and polite throughout, as were all of the serving staff, who are well trained and extremely polite. The Menu is fantastic, our food came; Freshly made, Beautifully Presented (with a smile) and Piping Hot! For the record Sister had Sunday Lunch, I had the Steak and Ale Pie, both fabulous, Sister had the Fruit Crumble for dessert, I had the 'DOUBLE CHOCOLATE CHEESECAKE WITH 'BAILEYS' and some of the cream that Sister ordered! Out of this world! WE really enjoyed our experience at 'The White Bull' and will definitely return! I believe they even had a live band on in the evening! Top Marks from me! dx

Good Beers and friendly service with great food

Lovely traditional pub with great food. We had the Sunday lunch and the beef was cooked to perfection (slightly pink) vegetables were all well cooked and perfect potatoes (roast and mashed). No room for starter or pudding! Would definitely recommend *****
