Victoria Fish Bar in Powys

A sunny Saturday evening and no restaurants in town had any space, so our only option was the chippy. Well how fortunate we were. The food was brilliant, well cooked and great tasting batter on the thick cod portions, delicious chips and mushy peas just as they should be. Helpful friendly staff advised us of an idyllic spot to sit and eat our order on the old bridge over the river. It was a delight to sit over the river and savour our evening meal out of the paper . If we are in the area again we will not hesitate to go back for seconds, keep up the great work guys! Best wishes for continued success, John and Caroline

We go here quiet a bit the fish and chips are really nice and staff friendly would reccomend. Lots of choice and new things on the menu too. Very tasty

We were staying in Presteigne and saw the good reviews for this shop so were looking forward to a lovely meal.My husband got haddock, chips, mushy peas and curry sauce. The fish was completely tasteless and the batter overcooked and hard. The chips looked as though they had been heated up a few times and had brown edges with no crispness at all. There was a load of chips so put in microwave next day like we usually do but couldnt eat them, We were so disappointed. The cost was £15which was only one portion so would be cheaper to eat in a pub!

Lovely fish and chips, as always, :we had freshly cooked haddock in Moby Dick portions and excellent chips. All served with a smile from the ever friendly owners. Prices may have risen recently but still great value!

Wow! The tastiest fish and chips we have had in a long time. Our haddock was cooked fresh and was excellent! The chips were lovely and crispy. Well worth the wait.

Despite having to wait outside the fish bar because of Covid restrictions at the time, we were kept entertained by the banter of the friendly staff/owners. The food was really good and the portion sizes very generous.

Great service the cod was cooked fresh for us and chips were hot even by the time we got them home I must say one of the best fish and chip suppers I’ve had in a very long while definitely would visit again

We frequently have fish and chips ftom and can safely say they are very good, fidh is large and well battered and crisp. Chips are delicious and usually freshly cooked. I would recommend them anytime.

We were caravanning nearby and decided to have an evening off from self-catering. Wow what a great choice! Wonderful fresh fish and copious chips. A great find and justifiably popular.

This is definitely one of the best chip shops I have ever been too. The chips were freshly cooked in Clean Oil and the potatoes were a super quality. Definitely going back soon to sample the fish, sausages and pies. Not the cheapest chips - but the portions are generous and the quality fantastic! I went nearing the end of a lunchtime shift the day before Good Friday and found the 2 members of staff welcoming, polite and friendly. I loved the way I saw them treating their customers, regulars and new. The place was hygienically maintained and under good Covid Regulations. Well Done Guys!

I’m very Local to the town and the staff always manage to crack a smile out of me. The Food is freshly prepared and it doesn’t take long to get your order!! For a small town, they manage a splendid job on Quality and price. Lovely bunch of people

The worst fish and chips ever. Do not recommend. Staff were very unprofessional, smoking outside and then serving, one member of staff was swearing and the food was disgusting. Very slow to cook. The young lad was the only decent person.

Very unsatisfying. Shop empty during the lunch hour except for family members going and back forth from behind the counter to get their own lunch. Food appeared to have been sat in the display for a while and did not look overly appertising. Items on order forgotton- poor for being a lone costumer and only having my order.Cash handled with the same hands for serving food and touching food. When i finally sat to try my chips, the paper was drenched in grease. Chips tasteless and as a result i abandobed the meal.Won't be returning!

6 adults & 3 children. All had fish & chips. Really tasty fish, well cooked chips & great value. Had 4 portions of chips.....All ate as much as we could & still some left over. Great value.

We have used this Chippy for Years and I am a little confused by some of the older reviews. Have never been served by a Lady always the same two gents. Never had greasy lumps and the staff are always full of chat. There was once another Chippy up the street that closed a few years ago that describes perfectly the staff that worked there. Any way a fine take away Enjoy.

Management need to learn some people skills and customer service, I know it's only a chippy but they are really miserable and don't seem to want to be there.

No other chip shop offers good quality food to takeaway so quickly.Excellent service and food cone of chips I had were plenty for me,really perfectly cooked,tries biens.

Fish tasted great. Doner kebab was nicely balanced, not skimpy on the meat. First time ever I've had to ask for a few less chips, portions are very generous.

Pequeño lugar para llevar. Muy típica. Algo básica, y no es atractivo, pero los chicos eran geniales. Que preparaban algunas eglefino sólo para nosotros. Ordered a simple chicken kabab with salad and mayo and chips, there reaction was disgusting as they was complaining due to having to work with the kababs, then after paying £6.50 for it i bring it hime to eat to find that i got a small chips and the worlds flattest kabab with no salad and a drop of mayo

En el pasado siempre hemos disfrutado de nuestra ocasional delicia de pescado y patatas fritas de la Victoria, pero no esta noche. Los peces se suponía que iba a ser grande, pero una porción significativa no tenía peces en él, solo masa. Que evidentemente ha estado sentado demasiado tiempo en el cajón calentador, ya que es bastante seco y un poco nítida. Las fichas contenidas demasiadas scrappy bits y el guisantes blandos eran bastante líquido. Yo vivo a pocas millas de distancia, de lo contrario me hubiera tomado esta comida. Espero que este es un punto en el nivel de servicio; si no que tendremos que encontrar una alternativa "fish and chips".

La tarifa adecuada, con algunos chips gastar bromas del personal mientras te sirven. Utilizada en promedio una vez a la semana por más años, mi cintura le importa recordar, nunca, jamás, había de todo, pero la comida y el servicio fueron buenos.

Start with the positives, Friendly man doing the cooking, fish o.k but soggy batter, chips plentiful, but would suggest it would be better to go for quality than quantity, This was a takeaway, that was eaten as feeling hungry, but then the regret set in,as chips were so greasy, that even next morning my mouth felt as if it had been sprayed with WD 40. A bonus was that I sneezed as going through door and cured the creaking hinges.

We are regulars at the Victoria fish bar. Staff are always welcoming and nothing is too much trouble. Tasty food served well.

Awful! Do not understand how to take an order! Do not know how to rectify their mistakes! On top of this their food isn't very nice!! Terrible staff! Can't understand good customer service.

We are always very pleased with our purchases from this fush and chip shop. Having lived in Scotkand for many years, we became used to rather small portions of fush; here the fush are generously proportioned and very nicely cooked. Ditto for chips. The folk who run it are always friend,y and cheerful and wot park hard to maintain an excellent facility. Keep up the good work.

Having moved recently to Presteigne we have not been disappointed with the meals we have chosen. The fish and chips are lovely and fresh, chips not greasy and gravy made fresh for you. Make sure you make a visit.

Visited tonight 12.09.15 the staff are very polite in there and lovely to see them having a laugh with each other! They apologised for the wait on the food which really was not an issue for me, I was more than happy to wait. The fish and chips are brilliant! My Nanna and I love having the fish and chips from here! Would definitely recommend

Lovely fresh fish but cooked in a rush - prefer crispy batter but can't really complain as it was so busy!Chips were lovely, nice and fresh and not too greasy!!Standard chippy Filled us up whilst camping :)

6 pilots staying in pretty Presteigne and flying at Shobdon for one week experienced generous portions of freshly cooked, excellent food from sociable and helpful staff. Prices were competitive. We will come back to the town and the Victoria chip bar.

Nice to see staff that take a pride in their product. Freshly cooked chips, not something that's been in the hot box for hours, large portions, fair price. I travel 7 miles to go to this chippie, I think that speaks volumes.

We live just out of town and stupidly as it's our closest chippy we keep going back. Sometimes the chips can be great. But most of the time they are shocking! I'm talking raw or greasy hard lumps! I once had a chicken pie that was still frozen! The service is so bad the one lady that serves in there talks to you in grunts and everything is to much hassle! Another man there is unbelievably rude! Some of the staff are just plain dirty!

Used twice whilst staying in Presteigne for a week. Huge portions and freshly cooked fish. Wonderful value and service. Always had somone popping in and out in the evening.

After visiting many times we decided we would rather travel than have poor service, under cooked or soggy brown chips and a long wait due to the lack of prepared items. We decided we would rather travel out of town and have reasonably priced, great quality food than the over priced, inadequate from Presteigne.

Freshly cooked chips and a salad kebab with hot chilli sauce; it has become my favoured Friday night meal after the long working week. In addition, recently the proprietor corrected a teenager's grammar when she asked, 'Can I get...' rather than, 'Can I have...' Truly a kindred spirit in matters of grammatical precision! I shall be a regular customer, henceforth.
