Fantastic staff, excellent service and food..

Great Food, Shame About the Service Dining out is meant to be a relaxing and enjoyable experience, but unfortunately, the service we received recently left much to be desired. While the food itself was fantastic, the service fell far short. The restaurant was undeniably busy, but that doesn’t excuse the numerous mistakes and delays we encountered. One member of our party didn’t receive his starter at all. When we pointed this out, the wrong dish was brought out instead. A simple request for another beer had to be made three times before it finally arrived. We asked for a jug of water twice before it eventually appeared. One of us was served the wrong main course and had to wait for the correct dish to be prepared. Essentials like black pepper and parmesan had to be specifically requested, rather than being offered. While waiting for food in a busy restaurant is understandable, waiting and then being met with such a series of mistakes is frustrating and reflects poor service. What truly added insult to injury was being told that the table was needed back in 15 minutes—despite the fact that much of our time there was spent waiting for the staff to get things right. This rushed ending, after such a lackluster service experience, left a particularly sour taste. To the restaurant’s credit, the food itself was excellent, which made the service even more disappointing. It’s a shame when culinary skill is overshadowed by operational inefficiencies. For those planning to visit, I’d recommend the food wholeheartedly—but brace yourself for potentially poor service if the restaurant is busy. Here’s hoping they take steps to improve the experience, as the food certainly deserves better.

We had restricted time due to lunch hour. Our order was taken and the food arrived quickly. The delicious food was enjoyed by everyone. Staff were very helpful knowing two of our party were in a rush to get back to work.

Initially garlic bread served was cremated. Replaced by an edible garlic . Main meal okay but too much oil and salt. The waiter was helpful and courteous

We had heard a lot of good things about this restaurant, so we thought we’d give it a try. The good news is that it definitely lived up to our expectations. The food was great, the staff were friendly and it had a lovely atmosphere. It’s great to see a local business thriving, I’d definitely recommend a visit!

This place is a hidden gem. Really good lunch as a couple with daughter and son in law. Started either meat balls. Small portion of 4 that was nicely done. Blast of flavour from tomato based sauce. Wife had calamari which was excellent. Then for main I went for the special sea bass - gorgeous dish. Probably one of the favourite I’ve had in an Italian. Served with potato and veg. Daughter went for carbonara which was also excellent (I had the rest as a takeaway next day). Girls went for tiramisu as desert. Had a little which was tasty. Service friendly all the way through. Loved it.

Fantastic service & food . I had chicken wings with blue cheese dressing to start they were fantastic, very tasty, followed by carbonara and cheese garlic bread. Large portion and very nice food .

Had a delicious, Sunday roast, sitting at a table for 6. Our friends were introduced to the Italian menu too. Their two chn enjoyed their meals from the children's menu. Great service from the bar too!

We came here for a last minute bite to eat and luckily got a table. We had a lovely dinner with excellent service, all the staff were 10/10. Adrian especially went out of his way to care to our needs and was a great host.

We love Verona, we try to go there every 2/3 month for a relaxed meal that reminds us to Italy. Adrian looked after us this time he was very helpful, attentive and charming! We enjoyed our experience there and we'll definitely get back as soon as we can.

What an outstanding place to spend time with loved ones, friends, family or work colleagues. On entering Verona, we were greeted warmly by Adrian, who looked after us professionally and kindly throughout our visit. Food was amazing and plenty of it. Great choice and superb menu. Lots of different drinks on offer too from the bar. The place is warm and inviting and is beautifully decorated and welcomes singles, couples families and groups alike. Parking is easy with in the many side streets around the restaurant,which is situated on a pleasant high street in Newton. I would highly recommend the Verona to anyone. Five stars all round.

Absolutely fantastic restaurant and so accommodating. We were a hen party of 17 and were let down by another restaurant. We rang Verona at half past 8 to see if by miracle they could maybe squeeze us in after explaining our situation. They told us to head over at 9 and everything would be ready. On arrival the bride was greeted with a lovely mimosa on the house. We cannot thank, Chris, Simone and Lucy enough for their wonderful service, and also to the kitchen staff for keeping the kitchen open longer to ensure we all had a lovely meal. The food was delicious, and Chris even managed to reserve us a table upstairs in the balcony afterwards. What could have been a disaster turned into a fabulous night. Thank you Verona team, we will be returning.

Lovely food this evening, 4 of us were dining, there was a mistake with my daughter's burger she asked for no cheese and it came with cheese, also my husband's side order of onion rings were also forgotten but they weren't needed anyway as he had plenty on his own plate to be getting on with. This review could have gone a star or 2 less depending on how our situation was handled at the end. But it was handled perfectly. The server noticed as she was preparing our bill that we hadn't had the onion rings and had already removed them before we would have been wrongly charged. Also we were given a 10% discount for the inconvenience of my daughter having to eat her burger later than us. As I say, it was all about how a situation is handled. This would have easily been a 5 if those minor things didn't happen. Our food was delicious either way.

Excellent service from the moment we walked through the door. We were told we may have to wait 30min before a table was free, but it was only 15 at most. After a bit of a chat and banter we both ordered starters and mains. All I can say both coarse's for the pair of us was the Mutts Nutts. We are sure to return again !!

Had a fabulous meal tonight. The team there are lovely and food is delicious. It was really busy so best to book and we will definitely be going again.

The service was quite poor and the starters took 30 minutes to arrive. The portion sizes were not reflective of the price. The main course arrived within 10 minutes of the starter and was extremely generous for the price and very tasty - I think this is why it has such a high rating. We weren’t offered a dessert or coffee afterwards. The menu seemed to be inaccurate in its dietary information - how a caprese salad isn’t vegetarian and the dessert having amaretto in it doesn’t include nuts, I’ll not understand.

We went on a work outing and had pre-ordered due to there being a larger number of us. I had the chicken skewer which was really tasty and definitely a good choice, everyone else had a variety of pasta dishes, pizza &steak, noone had any complaints 👍🏻 The atmosphere was lovely, background music and smaller more private sections. The service was great, everyone was very polite and welcoming; the only reason it isn't a 5* is due to us having yo ask for the deal which was on at the time, the bill came at full price, but the lady who served us had no issue of applying the discount once asked. Would definitely visit again and will take the children next time! 🍕

Family birthday meal. Food was really good but service is very slow & made us feel a bit like an inconvenience. 5th time of trying & doesn't get any better which is a shame.

Been here a few times over the past year or so, however the most recent time it's gone downhill a little. Service not as good (seems like new staff) and the food not quite up to the usual standards. Hope it some makes improvements... Also the chairs are the worst things to sit on, always sliding down and very uncomfortable!

Early dinner on sunday with family. Food was delicious and generous portions, Infact, it would be good if there were smaller pasta size options available, so can try starters too, ( small appetites in our group!! ) but otherwise, a great experience. Friendly staff - attentive service by Adrian. We will be back to try the sunday roast and mid week menu.

What a great place. Great service and food. The special kind of place to take somebody special. No rush to get you out after you finished. Good chilled wine and sociable servers. The competition in the area is fierce but anybody would be right at home here. Loved it.

We are never disappointed with the Verona, the food and service are always first class, we went for Sunday dinner and it was excellent as was our waiter Adrian, if I have a complaint I just wish he wouldn’t keep recommending that we have a dessert, which was also excellent.

Food is always amazing well worth a visit

For the 3rd time after requesting to sit elsewhere they tried to sit us (4 adults) in the so called booths. Really need to do something about that area as every time we go other people ask to sit elsewhere too.. Food is really good...

Delicious food in a lovely, relaxed venue. Charlotte looked after us brilliantly and even brought some optional extra coulis with desserts. I’d love to sit in the garden in the summer.
