Val Di Vara Fish and Chip Shop in Angus

Used to be great for Fish and Chips, but had quite a few bad meals (burnt overcooked Fish, poor chips etc) when you tell them the next time they seem uninterested that the last meals went in the bin. Shame when a fish and Chip shop cannot be relied upon to do a good meal

Decent, friendly, family-run place, used by locals. Wide variety and gluten-free fish supper options too. Not in the centre of Brechin, but easy to stop outside & get what you need. We wanted fish & chips, but read some…variable reviews at the others, so decided to go for this one & weren’t disappointed

Oh f*** yeah. Nico is the best. Just finished a Mixed Supper - my wife said I wouldn't manage.to eat it all. Wrong Absolutely delicious Best chip shop in the area by a country mile which is the same length as a city mile or a town mile

Please do visit The Val Di Vara in Brechin And buy the new Mixed Supper. Seriously, just do it Then come back and thank me Great job Nico, Yvonne struggled to eat it all. Wonderful

Exactly that - really really great chips, really good fish. We've got takeaway from here several times now and it's consistently good. Trick - call ahead to order so you can do a quick pick up and save time waiting

Actually, Confession to make 3 visits in 10 days Seduced by the New Mixed Supper. I've eaten suppers from chippers for 60 years And this mixed Supper is like (The Rangers ) Simply the Best ( ok not so far this year in champions league) Keep up the good work Nico and staff. Went here again for our tea and another difficult decision. As a celiac, finding a decent place to get a take away that provides a gluten free menu isn’t east in this area but this has to be the best I have found so far. On this visit I discovered yet another great combination to try & the service from the friendly staff is always top class.

Typical fish and chip shop. Very staff and quick service. Took advantage of eating inside. Busy place, but not enough to ruin my eating. Would visit again

Val Di Vara is the perfect chippy for those that are looking for gluten free items. My wife and kids have a gluten intolerance and the owner Nico makes sure there is no cross contamination. I even opt for the gluten free fish supper myself too. The batter is so light and crispy and not even a little bit soggy like some other chip shops. Chips are always great too and fresh too. Price is good for a fresh fish supper and the kids also love the gluten free chicken fillets. Service is great and telephone orders are easy also. Would highly recommend this place.

Was passing through Brechin on Friday July 05 . Looked a busy shop so tried it out. What a surprise! Bright clean shop and met with cheery hello from staff.ordered single fish , black pudding and large chips.meals freshly cooked for me and other customers when ordered. There was a good ambiance in shop , welcoming banter between customers and staff. And fish was beautifully cooked crispy batter, chips were excellent non greasy full of flavour. Black pudding was tasty and not to dry or spicy.. Excellent value for money ...highly recommend this traditional chippy..

Brechin is really very fortunate to have this chip shop. The food is excellent. Jumbo Fish really is Jumbo and always cooked to perfection. Nico and his staff are always polite and friendly and the place is always spotless. In Brechin? Fancy Chips? Then this is the place to go

Actually the worst fish & chips I’ve ever had in Scotland straight off the counter and not cooked fresh . (Probably explains why the shop was empty .) Each time I’ve had fish elsewhere wether arbroath brechin or Montrose it’s cooked fresh but these 2 was lying on the counter . 3 long faced miserable women working behind the counter too. Won’t be back !

Just called into Val di Vara in Brechin for something to eat on the way home from Aberdeen and had a fantastic fish supper with light, crispy batter, great chips (not soggy or greasy) and had to try the battered haggis - just because it was there.The staff were really friendly (ended up chatting to the owner and the rest of them while we were eating) and had the best F&C experience for some time.The haggis was really tasty, but most people calling in seemed to order the battered, deep-fried pizza (they're Italian - it must be good).They only take cash, but definitely worth a 10-minute detour off the A90.Highly recommended.

Very friendly staff always pleasant and will go the extra for there customers' food always good and tasty good value for money. Sausage in breadcrumbs is no 1 with me

Fish supper tonight - fish was crisp, hot and meaty, chips were perfection, fluffy inside, crispy outside, both rich in texture and flavour. Top restaurant which is not to be missed. Make sure you try it.

On the way back from the Scotland/Italy rugby game in Edinburgh we were really hungry and stopped for some fish and chips Great quality fish brilliantly cooked . The portions were large but we managed to eat it all. A good end to a great day out. We will be back

The batter is crisp and dry the fish is well cooked and the chips are not greasy. Service is second to none. On top of that they do gluten free everyday they are open.

After reading the reviews I thought I would try out. Had a fish supper , fish freshly fried. Found the batter to be a little crunchy . Fish did not have a lot of flavour and was a little dry. Chips were reasonable but much cooler than the fish , suspect had been cooked sometime earlier.

They won best fish and chip shop in Angus 2018 and they deserve it. Great food, lovely & friendly staff reasonable prices.

This chip shop is absolutely the best chip shop you'll eat out of. It's absolutely spotless inside and the food is to a perfect standard, and I'm not exaggerating. The food is not greasy and is very tasty. Every takeaway we've had from Val Di Vara has always been cooked perfectly. The staff are always welcoming and up for a chat whilst you wait for your food.

Just visited after visiting Brechin for football and it didn’t disappoint. Very reasonable prices- £4.50 for a supper. Selection of fish, chicken or smoked sausage available as gluten free. Unlikely to be back anytime soon due to distance but wouldn’t hesitate to go back if we were in the area

I have tried various gluten free items from their menu and all have been really tasty. No hesitation in recommending this for fresh cooked to order food. Staff very friendly too.

Have been in twice in as many weeks after discovering the sell gluten free products. After suffering from Coeliacs disease since 1998 finding decent take away food has been hard to do, til now that is. I first tried a fish supper which was absolutely amazing, but to be told by Nico the fish cakes are even better and to try them next time. A week later ordered them and wow was he right, filled with salmon and mozzarella and a special gluten free breadcrumb coating they just melt in the mouth.

Val Di Vara - Montrose Street Brechin, We have waited for a long time for a top quality "chippy" in Brechin, full marks, all the aces, amazing tasty food, sparkling clean, delightful staff, fryer Nico "simply the best", good sized portions, all freshly cooked, vast menu selection, moderate prices, quick service, would certainly put them up-there with the best. All food is cooked fresh to order, the staff are courteous and polite, the shop is clean and the food is always good! The only go to chippy in Brechin! The Black puddings are sublime from what I have been told! The fish is lovely with the batter being crisp and tasty!

Brechin has finally got a decent chippy and the food is really good and very reasonable prices. Well worth a visit if you live in Brechin or even passing by.

I was up visiting family in Brechin and decided to have a chipper tea but I’m gluten free and found out that they do a gluten free range so last Saturday night I had my first fish supper in a long time along with some tattie fritters was absolutely delicious and would thoroughly recommend it to anyone that is gluten free I will be back very soon

Not sure how long this chippy has been open but it is a welcome addition to Brechin, I'd say. Immaculately clean and food is delicious. Friendly staff also so I will return.

The Val Di Vara Montrose Street Brechin ( named after a very quiet historic beutiful area in Italy),A great addition to the Brechin carry out choice,great food, immaculate, friendly staff, good prices, by far the best in Brechin, have been three times now consistant quality and great service, the new owners give the place a real make over before they opened and installed new friers etc which obviously all helps with the high sandards,have tried Fish,Chicken fillets,and Sausage suppers all brilliant.

After voting in the council elections we headed to the Scotmid to get something to eat but noticed that the chippy across the road was now open again so we decided to give them a go. I was surprised - and pleased - to see it was Nico who used to own a chippy in Montrose where I used to go for fish (or chicken) and chips regularly when I was at work! Easily beats the local "competition". Great fish, excellent chips won't be going anywhere else for fish and chips locally!
