Order a kebab, and oh my god, it was the best one I have had in a long time. Loads of kebab and sauce come separate, so e even better was lovely. Pluse the wee delivery driver was amazing very polite and happy thanks so much. Will definitely be back .

if you like big chunky chips you will like this place , i was not keen there are better chip shops in town

First time I’ve used the Carnie Chipper, and was very disappointed with the quality of the food,, refried Chips and very small Fish also at just under £12 I’ll never be back, and unfortunately most chippers in town suffer from the same thing, overpriced and poorly cooked

Last two orders I have had have both been wrong, really good chippy but better picking it up and checking it before you go.

Absolute joke waited 2 hours for food I live 19 mins away, was told it was delivered and got nothing but cheek on the phone

Chips were dry, reheated Id say, but the flavour was there, battered pizza had almost no batter and was very, sharp, mouth was destroyed, but again flavour was good. Fritter was really tasty but very greasy. It was Saturday night and the place was heaving so I will try again on a quieter eve.

Excellent dry chips and lovely moist fish cooked fresh while you wait. Large portions which is why we ordered 3 single fish and 1 single chips between 3 of us. Next time we are in Arbroath we'll be back for more.

First time, a few months ago during lockdown, fish supper was cooked fresh to order by the female staff and tasted and looked fresh, delicious and crispy. 4-5 stars A few days ago, though, on my 2nd visit I tried a chicken supper. Cooked by a man. Chicken supper wasn't what I was expecting for £7.30. There was no batter, and it wasn't a freshly-fried half chicken with crispy chip shop batter like you would get in Dundee. Pieces of chicken breast. Breadcrumb coating and wasn't cooked to order meaning it tasted like a reheated frozen meal. If that's the way they want to go then no problem, just price it to reflect the lower quality. £4 tops.

the portion of chips for a large bag was bad, not the first time this has happened not even worth £2 never mind over £3.

Great find! I was on my way to another chippy but in a hurry and pulled in outside this place instead. Fast service, fresh fish and the chips were brilliant too! Definitely our go to chipper from now on :)

Last in here years ago and not only was it queued out back then - it was really really good. Sadly, this instance was not the case.Certainly not what you'd call a generous helping (compared to other chippies we've had recently) and not keen on the soggy batter on the fish (which was fine enough) so picked most of it off.Also the chips could've done with longer in the fryer , and they had a very dry texture - not exactly "moreish ".We were hungry and it filled a gap - but next time we'll try elsewhere.

Under new management and is just not the same fish and chip shop anymore. Portion sizes are a joke, they operate a strange 2/3 of a bag full for chips and I can honestly say that I have never seen this in all my years. Literally for £2 I received 1/2 a small bag of chips and when questioned why they don’t fill the bag they advised me of their 2/3 full policy. Every other chip shop fills the bag of chips and usually adds a scoop/s. Used to be the b at chipper in Arbroath IMO but sadly not anymore, will not be returning!

Lovely fish fried to order. Worth waiting for. Slice of lemon and home made tartar sauce. Really nice staff too.

Really good food, freshly prepared while you wait. I'm not a huge fan of chip shops not having food ready but at least this is very good once you get it. The wait wasn't too long either and the staff were very friendly.

We love their spicy haggis and battered sausages, fish and chips are good. Hubby likes white pudding

Went there fir a couple o suppers, waited a wee while as food was made to order. Staff friendly and polite. Got suppers and they were great nice and hot by time we travelled 8 miles home.

Arbroath is one of those places with no shortage of fish n chip shops, all slightly different so it is easy to find one to your taste. I have used the Cairnie for a number of years so when I heard the place was under new management and that this was the same folk that run another business in Forfar that I also use, I had no concerns about the quality. I visited twice in November 2016, both times for fish suppers, one breaded and one in batter, and both were excellent. Early evenings can be really busy so be prepared to wait a wee while or else phone in your order. I found the staff to be polite and efficient and will continue to call by whenever I am back in Scotland.

It is probably the best chippy in arbroath and use it on a regular basis. Everything is on cook to order and never had a fault

Sad to see this Arbroath institution getting poor reviews but after our visit tonight I can see why. Fish supper was over cooked both fish and chips very rubbery and dry.

Not open long hours but you will always be greeted by very friendly staff and lovely Chippie tea. Served in the traditional way! In paper! Not a polystyrene box in site! Well done Cairnie Chippie!

Just had a supper from the Cairnie chipper,my god whats happened.This was our favourite chipper in Arbroath. I take it that it has been taken over?? The chips were disgusting,cold and all shrivelled up,with a taste of old fat. To be fair the mock chop was ok but the chips were inedible...sorry but i wont be back.

Brilliant family run fish and chip shop . Very clean , friendly helpfull staff also . Everything is cooked to order and well worth the wait . Can be busy at peak times but that just shows its always great food .

I was on business travelling from Aberdeen to Glasgow and specifically looked for a quality fish and chip restaurant on route. I saw this one as having a 5-star rating on Trip Advisor so made the effort to call in. Lovely clean premises and very friendly proprietor and staff but I have to say that my colleague and I were both disappointed in our fish and chip meals. Average at a push.

Lovely fish supper this week , fish was very fresh .For some reason no bread crumbs available for breaded fish however the batter I opted for was excellent .Very clean and reasonably priced

Really enjoy fish suppers from here but also other items. Chicken fillets are great and they offer a small fish supper for those who can't manage a big one.

I went here for 2 fish suppers today having had an excellent one in the past. Sad to say tonight the fish was mostly batter, & what bit of fish there was in it was over cooked & dry. I don`t think I will be returning. It was a real disappointment.

This is the best chippy in Arbroath and surrounding area.A family run business and the courtesy shown to customers is second to none. You may wait on your order but the wait is worthwhile.

Just moved to Arbroath & fancied fish & chips. I must say this chipper is fantastic. Lovely big fish & great chips. Very friendly staff, clean & tidy shop. Highly recommended, we will certainly be back for more.

I'm a regular at this local family run chip shop. The suppers are cooked fresh to order and the staff are first class . Mike the owner runs a well oiled machine (or should I say fryer) so I never end up disappointed with my supper .

We had a fish supper which was superb and also a red pudding supper which was a let down not the usual standard we had before. The pudding was mushy inside and tasted like meat paste I couldn't eat it so I helped my wife with her fish apart from that it was great and food was cooked to order next time I'll choose something different

Simply the best chippy in the town if your not to hungry or not a big eater them ask for the flipper supper (smaller fish fewer chips) less cost but definitely the best by far Arbroath is full of quality chippers but this wee chip shop in my opinion is the best in town
