Lovely well cooked friendly unhurried chippy

Frosty unhelpful staff. Couldn't be bothered to 'split" the chip portion into two for our small grandchildren (they don't do child portions), "I can give you an extra plate and you can do it" was the response. Chips slightly under cooked . My wife's, 'large' fish was the smallest she's ever been served and the batter soft and soggy. My steak pie crust was dried out and hard. The price was also excessive for the portions given. Before it is suggested that I should have approached staff !! - as I say, they were unhelpful from the start so what would be the point. We had two hungry children who had to eat which is the only reason we 'put up with it'. I will not return.

Visited on a Thursday evening at around 6 .. the chips were fantastic crispy on the outside fluffy and white in the middle .. fish was fresh and battered crisp .. probably one of the best chip shops in the Worcester area . Will definitely visit again

Always busy, friendly and excellent food.

Visited as a stop off, went in 15 minutes before closing to be told the fryers were off and we could only have what was on show. Stale chips. Stopped off again a few days later and walked past and the fryers were on 30 minutes before opening. Would recommend the closing time is changed to the time the fryers are switched off.

Update May 2024: Andreas has just smashed it out of the park. I’ve just had the best fish and chips of my life. Upton chippy is back baby. Massive chunky fish, amazing chips! Review from 2013 Chips always good but cod is so hit and miss. You go one month and the fish is white chunky flakes, so good that you go back again, and then the cod is thin, grey watery rubbish. If they could improve consistency, then it would be 5*, but these days for £9.20 its not worth the risk of a getting a wet grey disappointment.

I'm a local, just down the street. Been here 4 times so far, great every time nice chips and Fish. Fish is a tad small for a large, but its whatever they can get in today's food market prices, And it tastes great every time. And the Staff have always been very friendly and having a good chat and joke. Great place 👌

rubbish service, lady was too busy hitting on my dad to actually get the order correct. got back home to realise she hasn’t put in the fish cakes for my meal.

No idea what the food's like, turned up at 7:55pm and despite supposed to be being open til 9 (10 according to TripAdvisor) they were closed.

Called at 7pm today. Ordered chicken and chips, fish and chips and a sausage and chips. All cold, soggy and a terrible disappointment. Poor value for £21.50

We checked webpage to confirm it was open. The chips are good so we travelled to Upton from Worcester to get some lunch, only to find it closed. No one had bothered to change the opening times online. Two little grandsons very disappointed, me furious!

The Steak and ale pies were dried out with pastry that would stop a bullet. Chips were below average. Very poor, second time used and the last. No idea how to run a chippy.

Got the lad on site to pickup some cones of chips and a few bits on Friday night. Steer clear, greasy, undercooked and overpriced.

Lovely fish and chips, staff could be a little friendlier

This is the second time I've been here as we were at the holiday home this time last year. There was a member of staff who was soo rude, cold and non engaging. She wouldn't even smile at my three year old. There was simply no need. The food was acceptable, but a little overpriced. We weren't even offered a carrier bag and the food was very hot.

2 trays of upton chips and curry with peas, lovely hot chips with extra vinegar . Just what the doctor ordered . Then I was off to the star inn to watch the scousers v the Geordie’s in the PL ) PS the scousers won 1:2 )

Usually OK but tonight was dreadful stale batter that was thicker than the fish. The fish was about 10mm thick. Won't be going again. Chips typically good as usual

Good service, price okay, ideal looking place but sadly the food isn't up to scratch. The chips were standard & acceptable but the cod was not nice at all. Firstly I paid for a large but I'm quite sure it was a small, the fish itself wasn't a nice texture (like cod usually is) and the batter was horribly thick, greasy and mostly soggy.

Havent been here for months so decided to give it another go Went down at 6.15 for pie, chips ,curry sauce Sadly not improved at all Lukewarm pie. Soggy cold chips and the curry sauce was lukewarm too Why it cant be cooked to order as not exactly queueing out the door and people dont mind waiting , i have no idea. Such a shame

Needed a quick tea They didn’t disappoint They special cooked deep fried haddock for us on request (as the cod on the side looked like it had been there a while) And our haddock and chips were delicious We will return

Very friendly bunch, massive portions of chips, too much for one person. I've been using them on and off for 20 years. Big queues on Fridays outside since the pandemic, I haven't seen any of the staff coughing so feel quite safe. I wouldn't travel any further to find a better chippie, I don't think there is one.

Worst chips I've ever eaten! Tasted like they'd been sat there all day, limp, greasy, pale and bland. Ate 3 chips and binned the whole bag full.

Fantastic chippy, the best haddock and chips we've EVER had. Brilliant service. Lovely little seating area at the side to eat plated meals. While our haddock was freshly cooked we were asked if we'd like to sit inside out of the cold. Very clean and comfortable area. Highly recommend.

Utterly rude staff told I had to wait then started serving someone else not the first time upton needs a 2nd chip shop this one would be out of business food is mediocre at the best of times.

Very popular chippy and with good reason, good food, reasonably priced, quick service.

Lunchtime visit, queue outside for takeaway, menu on display. Fresh cooked, delicious cod, also tasty beef burger, battered sausages and chips, enhanced with pots of curry. The family were well satisfied. Good, efficient service and value for money.

Wish I had read the previous reviews, one of the worst fish and chips meals I've ever had...fish was overcooked and chips soggy...never again. Customer satisfaction is obviously not a priority here.

We came for the August bank holiday “sushine festival” On a sunny Saturday afternoon we went for a walk around the village and like last year we got a take a away “chippy tea”. The food was nice but the same as last year some of the serving staffs had poor attitudes , rude and one person wasn’t wearing hygienic gloves when handing the chips ……..very poor

Really disappointed. The is the first and hopefully last time I have given one star. The worst fish and chips I have every eaten. The fish was soggy and tasteless. The batter was no better. Please do not waste your money by eating here.

We popped to Upton on the way through this evening, my husband and daughters went to the window. You could not see what was available, he asked for several items to be told they don’t do them. The lady was so rude at the window my husband could not believe the way he had been spoken too. Running a business ourselves, I think the staff there could do with a customer service course. Absolutely disgusting attitude towards everyone.

One word .. gross ! Cold chips, thick, greasy batter on grey, thin, really fishy tasting fish .. £17 for 1xchips,2xvile cods , small curry sauce .. avoid this place, inedible 🙁

Chips were decent enough, but I found the fish bland and watery. Quality wasn't £8.50 worth. Also, what's with serving people outside still? It's not 2020 any more.

I was looking forward to some fish and chips but I refuse to fund a business that thinks it's acceptable to serve people on the street instead of allowing them into the shop. This nonsense has got to stop.

It's been a while since I've heard laughter from so many, and the staff listen to all your needs ( with in reason) the murder mystery weekend was the main attraction and believe me when I say what a weekend from thier behalf, they all wanted to be there and it showed in thier performance. Will I be booking another weekend oh yes and I'm looking forward to it very much. Too everyone involved thank you so very much.D.

Just tried to eat a fish and chips, 4.45pm. It all went in the bin. The fish was dry, in fact I would say shrivelled, the batter was like elastic. I do believe it was a piece left over from lunch time opening which had been just sitting there. Very expensive dinner as it was totally inedible. Will not go early again, in future will either go later or go to Barnard Green.

Limited options on food most of the time. Open limited hours too.. I have found more options available food wise at Barnards Green and I’m much happier to have to drive that little bit further for better customer service coupled with great food and plenty of choice of food availability.

Went there many years ago. Lovely people, very kind to me and kids. The food was really very good. Very popular for good reason.

Called in while passing through Upton on a lunchtime. It was served out the window very quickly and it was some very nice chips indeed!!

Possibly the worst chips and customer service every, So they won’t let customers in the shop, that’s fine, they server through a window with a protective screen and insist you wear a mask outside, so you have to shout! Completely useless procedure, I do not...

Not at all bad fish and chips and well priced, the fish was excellent and the chips slightly undercooked but we took them down to the river and thoroughly enjoyed them. One improvement might be to teach the middle aged lady with the ring through...

Ordered a portion of fish and chips the chips were excellent the fish was extremely tasty only problem i had as I'm not from the area i could not find it at first but once found you will not be disappointed keep up the good work

Very good Fish and Chips! Would recommend. Cod was truly excellent, definitely can tell a quality piece of Fish, and cooked just right. only a little more than your average chippy. but since it's a touristy spot and good quality fish it seems reasonable! Would eat here again.

Recently moved to the area - this is our local, a pretty good chippie. Decent fish and chips, ready cooked on both occasions we have visited so far - ask for small unless you have a very large appetite! Serving through two windows so no need to go inside at present.

Food tastes like fat no taste, owner tut at me and rolled his eyes cause I asked for roe, do yourself a favour and go to another town.

Service was quick and friendly but the chips and fish were very fatty and stuck to the paper. It would be an idea if you used a cardboard box and gave more care to presentation. Chips were pale and some were undercooked. The batter on the fish was extremely thick and inside it was still white and uncooked not at all enjoyable. Not likely to call again.

Wasn't sure it would be great as the only one in town I think, but was not disappointed. Very nice chips and cod. During covid you queue outside and they take your order and payment through the window which is good. Parking outside not guaranteed though and no disabled spaces.

On Friday we decided to try the Chippy. When my husband bought home the food he said "That was lucky no queue outside tonight,i went straight in"Consequence of this the food was dry and had obviously been in the warming cabinet for a long time...

We were staying opposite the Chippy and noticed how busy it was so decided to give it a go! We werent disappointed; had the pukka pie and chips, excellent food, great value and lovely staff!

the Cod and chips are very good indeed over the years the place has been a little up and down at present it is excellent and the newer staff have certianlly improved the offering will be back

My husband and I visited the chip shop early on a Friday evening. We have previously visited the chip shop several years ago.There was a small queue, but we were quickly served by a very pleasant female member of staff.I chose a Steak & Kidney pie whilst my husband had a battered beef burger. After seeing the size of the portion of chips, I decided that one portion would be ample for the two of us.My husband said his beef burger was delicious with a very crispy batter. The portion of chips was so big, that the two of us could not finish it.A super meal at a very reasonable price.

Had a sit down fish and chip evening meal. Place was packed. I had a plaice and it was enormus! filled the plate. Loads of chips ,good value.

We go to this chippy instead of the ones in Pershore. We collect mini fish and chips and then go on to Castlemorton common. We used to have a motorhome but now sold it. Anyway not sure if there had been a change in ownership or family because there are slightly different staff in there now. But mini fish and chips are our favourite and are invariably cooked perfectly. Definitely less greasy than the Pershore Newland chippy. So we either go to the common or the riverside to devour our meal. Either way the staff are okay and understand what is wanted. The mushy peas are okay if fresh and not hanging around. Either way great fish and chips batter crispy and chips crispy. Always a good visit.

Jsut bought two lots of fish and chips, very generous portions of chips and fish was nicely cooked. All food in the hot cabinet looked fresh and apetising. Staff were freindly and food was reasonably priced.

Taking a break from the “sunshine musical festival” we popped into Upton upon Severn for a skeg around the shops , a cheeky drink and to have a chippy tea , fish & chips , chips & curry sauce and chips and manchester caviar ( mushy peas )

I have been to this place several times and it has been average, on Saturday I went in and was given a handful of chips, battered burger that you could fill a bowl with the amount of fat dripping out of it and flavourless sauce. Complete waste of money and to top it all off I was ill! Will never go again. Rude staff too.

Great service with a smile, delicious cod fish and proper chip shop chips. We really enjoyed our fish and chip supper from Upton Chippy!

A lovelt and apparently very popular little chippy that serves a good range of foods including burgers, kebabs, fish and sausages etc. Staff are friendly and helpful and every time I've been in someone is always cleaning, it's spotless. Run by the same Greek family for over 30 years. Highly recommended.
