Tom Yum in Amber Valley

Our first taste of Tom Yum, Thai Kitchen, absolutely delicious! My husband is celiac, great options for him and I loved his food and mine! Very friendly lady took our order over the phone. Thank you very much. We'll definitely be back, can't wait for normality so we can eat in!

I have visited Tom Yum Thai Kitchen a numerous amounts of times over a few years and I have never been disappointed. The Banquet Tom Yum on the set menu is amazing value for money and the dishes included are just out of this world - this is personally my favourite choice on the menu and cannot wait to try more!The staff are incredibly friendly and nothing is too much trouble, they're very welcoming and polite. The atmosphere inside the restaurant is brilliant, beautifully decorated and outstanding cleanliness. Also I would HIGHLY recommend the deep fried ice-cream they offer on their dessert menu! It's the best thing I've ever and is amazingly presented!Overall I would definitely 100% recommend anyone to try this lovely place, you will not be disappointed. I can't wait for my next visit!See you soon

Wowzers, this was the best Thai food we've had. The Massaman curry was incredible and it's a real bonus that they cater for vegetarians and allergies. The setting is delightful in the old Mill- the industrial backdrop with Thai decor and panache. The staff were super friendly, I'd love to come back again and again. We'd recommend a walk around the River Garden park to take in the old Strutt Mill before dining. Book in advance to avoid disappointment.

We had takeaway food from here a couple of times while on holiday it was always hot and fresh tasting, Definitely recommend you give it a go!

We visited with friends, after previously having food here in the past. The food is really, really good and we love parking near the river and enjoying the view. The service was slightly slow, but that's the only negative we could find. We would definitely recommend.

As Tom Yum regulars, we had not been since lockdown so decided to go and see how they were coping with the new restrictions. We were warmly welcomed as usual and they did a great job socially distancing their customers. They wore masks but that did not detract from the excellent service and food. The full menu was available and we had tempura prawn starters with duck with coconut sauce (58) OMG you must try it! 10 out of 10 well done, we will be back.Anne & Mark

My partner and I were happy to find out that they’re now open for takeaway on Fri, Sat, Sun night. Food as good as inside the restaurant - we actually live 20 mins away and it was still piping hot when we got home. Portions probably bigger then inside too! Amazing food as always - thanks!

Went on a very quiet cold Wednesday early evening. Thai green prawn curry and Beef Massaman curry were the best we have had. The wine was good and reasonably priced. Service was very good and our hostess was lovely.We are looking forward to our next visit.

Great food and great service Manu has so much variety of Thai dishes. Reasonably priced too. Well worth having one of the set banquet options if you're new to Thai food

Fantastic welcome and service We had a toddler with us but nothing was too much troubleTom Yam soup was the best soup I have ever had - so tasty, slightly spicy. Chicken stir fry with cashews, and vegetable curry had amazing flavours.Mocktails were refreshing and looked fabulous Will definitely go again.

Well, what can I say, the food is absolutely gorgeous, the setting of the old North mill is great and the staff are excellent, looking forward to returning.

Interesting place, just outside town and in an old mill (seemingly without any windows). But it's atmospheric, I suppose - could be good for couples seeking a bit of seclusion. Personally i found it a bit gloomy. The food was good; on the higher side of average thai fare - the honey ribs were amazing, but the duck parcels really weren't. The curry was fine - just fine. I would've preferred a draught beer option too, but you can't have everything.

We visited the restaurant and it has a great atmosphere. Absolutely wonderful food and the evening was just perfect. One of the top restaurants in Belper and a true Thai cuisine. Love it.

I spent several summers in Thailand when I was younger and this restaurant took me straight back. The food was authentic and delicious. The beef massaman curry in particular was fantastic. It screamed flavour and the beef fell apart at the lightest touch. The service was excellent also. The staff were very attentive, always making sure our wants and needs were met.

Wonderful authentic Thai food, the soup was to die for, service was wonderful, and we will be back , reminded us of everything we love about Thailand

I have just returned from dining here with friends who live locally. We each had a starter, main course and shared some rice; I can honestly say that this was the best Thai meal I have had.

This place deserves all the glowing reviews. Situated on the riverbank in an abandoned mill complex, it’s a small but beautiful restaurant that serves the most delicious and authentic Thai food.

This is a restaurant that we kept meaning to visit and never got round to and having now been wish we had gone long ago. The restaurant itself is lovely and the staff greeted us warmly. The food was excellent and was served beautifully. No fast food here so if you wait a little while its worth it. We all ordered different dishes and shared them. Every dish was lovely and indivual.

Didn’t expect much of a local Thai place in somewhere like Belper but was more than pleasantly surprised with the food which was comparable other Thai restaurants I’ve visited in big cities. Staff were friendly and attentive and the building is awesome with so much character.

A last-minute booking based on Trip Advisor feedback. Staff were very attentive and the restaurant was full of happy diners, but the food didn't meet our expectations. The Tempura Tiger Prawns were not, as advertised, the best I've ever eaten. They were more akin to something mass produced chopped and shaped and frozen in panko breadcrums. The Massaman curry sauce was tasty but light on beef. The pork however was very tasty and plenty of it. OK overall but not one we'd return to.

Had a wonderful meal tonight at Tom Yum. The staff are very friendly and attentive. We were made to feel very special. Food was lovely as always. We will be back. Recommend 😊

Decided to go out for meal on Sunday. The place was quiet, which was unusual as it’s always been busy before.

Friendly welcome, we got chatting the the staff about travelling to Thailand . Really interesting. Food as usual was tip top. Gorgeous fresh and hot. We find they can’t do enough for you when we visit. It will remain one of our fave places in belper.

I am not over familiar with Thai cuisine but for taste and friendliness I enjoyed our meal here. Parking is very convenient and the views outside of Belper River Garden added to a very pleasant evening

Beautiful food and very reasonably priced, all cooked fresh and authentic. Lovely staff who are polite and always smiling. Our second visit and will return again in the future. Beautiful setting too right next to the river gardens and plenty of free parking right outside the door. Wonderful place!

This has got to be my favourite Thai restaurant! The food is spot on, been numerous times now and can’t fault the consistency of good quality food. Would recommend the King Prawn Stir Fry from the chef specialities & the Thai Green Curry is Immense!! The staff are always so accommodating, helpful and friendly. It has a great atmosphere and we will definitely be returning!!

I found this place on Trip Advisor when planning a weekend break to the area. It's in the cellar of the old mill and you're unlikely to ever just stumble across it!

We returned here after about 3 years and were not disappointed. The food was excellent and the welcome was very warm. We ate early as we were en route home so the service was particularly fast and attentive. The madsaman beef curry was a particular highlight!

We ate here with family on a Sunday evening and enjoyed another superb meal. The food is always fresh, beautifully presented and served piping hot by lovely, attentive staff. The restaurant has a welcoming atmosphere, even when it is as quiet as when we first arrived but never seems overly crowded or noisy when it gets busier. Ideal for a nice relaxing meal and a chat. Highly recommended.

From the service and the restaurant atmosphere, to the wide ranging menu and tasty grub, it really doesn’t get anymore authentic.

The food is always absolutely fantastic here, especially the set menus. The quality of drinks is also first class. The service is great, very friendly and helpful staff. The decor is lovely too and being in a historic mill is really interesting.

Been meaning to try this place for ages. As it was my birthday, the day before, my family and I booked and enjoyed one of the best meals ever! The staff were so friendly, and I even got a slice of Birthday Cake plus candle at the end of our meal.

Ordered a take away from Tom Yum Thai Kitchen for the first time tonight. It was hot, tasty and good quality. The green curry was delicious and had a nice warmth to it. My husband loved the beef Massaman and I really enjoyed my gluten free chicken Massaman. We chose three different types of rice...jasmine, sticky and egg fried. All 3 were equally tasty..though the egg fried rice was my favorite. We have visited family in Cromford for years and can’t believe we have just found this place! Don’t hesitate to eat here, you won’t be disappointed.

Food very lovely Staff very polite, courteous and professional. BUT Chef went home at 10pm so that was that then! This should be publicised as it meant we couldn't have dessert - what a shame.

Never been to Tom Yum before but will definitely be going again very soon. Extensive memu, great staff & the food was fabulous. Set in the historic former mill & the walk up the stairs & to the loos provides some interesting information about the mill with a few artefacts. Can’t fault it.

We were looking for somewhere to eat after an early evening cinema show and decided to try Tom Yum. Although they closed at 9pm, they were happy to take our booking and also agreed to take our orders that afternoon so that we would not be waiting for long when we arrived.

My son and daughter in law took me to this superb little restaurant when I was visiting them last week. The restaurant is tastefully decorated with Thai bric a brac. The food was excellent, and so tasty. I love Thai food anyway and was not disappointed. I had Thai fish cakes with chilli dip as a starter and chicken with garlic stir fry with noodles. My daughter in law and I shared a bottle of Thai white wine which was unusual but palatable. My son had Thai beer. The service was excellent and all staff very pleasant. Would certainly recommend. I hope to go again when I visit at Easter.

We have lived in the area for two years now and never knew about this place until a few weeks ago. What a surprise and what a little gem of a place right on our doorstep.

We were staying in the Peak District for the weekend and fancied somewhere different to eat and found this little treasure on google. The staff were very helpful and attentive but not overly so and at the end of our evening thanked us profusely for our visit. We opted for one of the set banquets after talking the options through with our lovely waitress, and boy we were not disappointed, the food was piping hot and each course was very flavoursome and there was more than enough to eat. Food was reasonably priced for what we received. Would definitely recommend and will definitely call again when next that way.

Don’t be put off by the location of this gem set in the Belper North Mill. It all adds to the experience .Quality Thai food especially the starters. Tom Yummy! Friendly and attententive staff

I'd booked this on a whim as we were staying close by and it was my birthday whilst we were away. I'm glad I did. The place is in part of an old mill, and was very picturesque. The food was out of this world. We had a mixed starter so we could try a bit of everything (the chicken satay and prawn dumplings were exceptional). I had the King Prawn Pad Thai and my other half tried the chicken fried rice with pineapple and cashew nuts, which I had the pleasure of finishing for her. All of the food was beautifully presented and delicious. The service was friendly without being over-bearing. Definitely worth a visit.

This was the second time we have been here both times excellent. We had this time a set meal for two so tasty and fresh tasting. Lovely atmosphere in a unique venue.....I just need to go back to Thailand

This is a really great Thai restaurant tucked away in the old mill in belper. I really like the atmosphere and décor of the place. The food is good to, I would certainly recommend the beef massamam curry, its a favourite of ours. The staff are wonderful to.

This place is a bit pricey but boy the food is delicious. Staff are always very courteous and friendly and can’t really do enough for you. It cost us £61 for a meal for two with just a starter and main and two drinks.

Lukewarm welcome, sat down and forgotten about, as the waitress went to get the order of the table next to us that sat down after us and we had to remind her that we hadn't been served. Food was ok, but not up the standard of Favourite Thai in Burton that we usually use. Service got friendlier as we went to pay, but all in all wouldn't rush back, plenty of others offer better thai food and experience for less.

Received a warm welcome from staff and were impressed by the look of the well laid tables. Compensated for the lack of natural light in the restaurant. Food was well cooked and tasty. The sharing plates for starters were particularly enjoyed. Having to order rice separately with the meals inevitably adds to the cost but this seems the norm in Thai restaurants.

I visited in April 2018 and was very happy to see they had a new extended menu. The menu had a mixture of prices and a children's selection. The service was excellent and a good wine menu. We were quite loud as a group and bad no problems. I would definitely go again.

Visited with my partner on a Saturday evening, the atmosphere was nice and not overcrowded like a many of the restaurants in Belper now. We enjoyed a prawn and Thai crab fish cakes to start and a prawn Thai curry for main, all of which were very tasty. The food was served quickly by friendly staff. We will definitely return.

Very delicious freshly made food and a lovely welcoming host. Fascinating location in the former river loading bays of Strutts mill - which means you’re literally sitting above the Derwent, so don’t forget your warm clothing in winter!

Had a great night at Tom Yum Thai kitchen on a rainy March evening with our 2.5 year old. We were made to feel very welcome and food was as good as any Thai restaurant in central London which you would pay significantly more for. We were treated to home made ice cream for dessert for free including mango lemongrass and beetroot! Lovely setting in an historic old mill building. Good to see locals thinking highly of this place. Prices extremely reasonable and had a great chat with owner. A hidden gem and a must for anyone visiting this part of the Peak District!

We ate here early on a Friday evening and were lucky to get a table without a booking. As ever the food and the service were excellent throughout the meal. Highlights this time were the shared starter platter and the spicy noodles for mains, all served piping hot and beautifully presented. One of our favourite restaurants. Highly recommended.

Called in here on Valentines, and having visited several times, we are still very impressed with the food and the service. The gluten free options are easy to see with the codes attached to the menu. It is just a pity that the dessert menu is not laid out the same and there was only one gluten free dessert on offer. Apart from that I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone.

We had an absolutely fantastic meal last night. I can’t stress enough how tasty their tofu dishes are. The flavours were perfectly balanced and the presentation of each dish looked most appetising. It’s also nice to see that they cater for all dietary requirements having a whole menu just for vegetarians, which makes a nice change- I was spoilt for choice. The staff are so attentive and friendly and the restaurant it’s self is very cosy. Highly recommended & cant wait to come again. Thank you for a lovely meal.

Revisited Tom Yum last night after an absence of a few years and we were extremely pleased to find this gem of a place still offered excellent food, service and a delightful ambience.

First visit tonight - we had heard good things before and though let's give it a go. We couldn't of made a better decision we were very pleasantly surprised by our experience.

This was our first time at Tom Yum but it definitely will not be our last because it was such a great experience in every way. The lady that served us was so nice and very welcoming and the food was so beautiful we are still talking about it. We will be back very soon thank you

the welcome was warm, the decor was splendid, the menu was full of lovely tempting food, and the atmosphere was convivial. We mixed and matched a little on the order so that we got to taste a little of everything.The food delivered everything that it promised - delicious.

Was in Belper visiting family and they booked this lovely restaurant for a Saturday evening meal. Service is excellent, very attentive and efficient. As there were six of us we decided on one of the set menus and were not disappointed. Food was fresh and tasty with the right levels of heat, we all loved it. I will try again next time I'm in town, you should too.

Coming from Thailand, came by this restaurant during my 14 days long holiday around UK. Located in a UNESCO site, it's not too difficult to find it. In need of something spicy, the food here doesn't disappoint at all. Ambience is great (very Thai) and menu was quite simple. It helped not to see hundred of items on the menu. Must try on the menu is the whipping tiger and one of the dessert menu, lemongrass sorbet.

You know you're onto a winner when the food is made fresh, the puddings aren't just bought from a wholesaler and the recipes are different to other places.

My Husband and I visited Tom Yum for our wedding anniversary and it was our very first vist and we travelled about ten miles just to give this Thai restaurant a try and we were very impressed and will certainly be returning.

Decided to give this place a try as its on our doorstep and were pleasantly surprised....service is good food is excellent and the place is warm quite small but cosy....I had the Aromatic Green Curry of Chicken and my partner opted for the Chicken Massamon....both were delicious with good portions....for afters I had the banana wrapped with batter and the good lady went for the sorbet...we both found them tasty...we will try a take away next time but will certainly visit again !!

We visited this Thai restaurant for a mid week dinner recently while on holiday. The first thing you notice is the layout of the restaurant which is cosy with wonderful decor. It was quiet and we had no trouble getting a table. We chose one of the set menus and I must say the food was excellent. The sauces for the mains were the best I've tasted at any Thai restaurant, quite rich but not overly. We also ordered dessert, which we wouldn't normally do and they were excellent too. The service throughout was superb and very polite with typical Thai warmth. We wouldn't hesitate to visit Tom Yum again the next time we're in Belper.

Delightful people and an amazing setting. A little difficult to find and the food not as spicey as expected. It hit the mark for the price.

After both being at work all day my husband and I decided to go out for dinner. We decided on Thai, we had the set menu and are glad we made that decision as the spicy coconut chicken soup for second course was absolutely delicious.

We love it here and visit fairly regularly - the restaurant feels quite hidden, at the base of the mill, with it's rounded cellar-like ceilings, and the romantic low level lighting adds to the ambience. We always find it to be a nice warm atmosphere. The food is lovely; my favourite dish is the thai fishcakes starter. The menu is particularly accessible to those with allergies/intolerances - listing which allergens are contained in each dish using a colour coding system. As someone with more than one allergy this is very much appreciated - people with allergies deserve to enjoy a meal out too! The thai wines go well with the dishes. The service is excellent. My only concern is that recently the portion sizes seem to be smaller; this doesn't concern me that much but it bothers my partner who has more of an apetite! Nevertheless this is still one of my favourite places to eat out in Belper and I would recommend it to anyone living nearby or visiting the area.

As my friend & I had not eaten Thai food before we didn't no what to order So we had One of the all in specials a variety of starters & 3 mains , Well All I can say is Every Item was WOW.. The flavours, just blew us away, can't comment on any 1 item it all was fab,, The Staff spot on, all in all 5*

We visited Tom Yum for my partners birthday and it was just Wonderful! The staff couldn't do enough to help us. They even decorated the table and bought out a cake with a candle. The food was the best Thai I had eaten (outside of Asia of course). It was presented well, really hot and so tasty. We will definitely be visiting again.

We visited the restaurant for my husband's birthday and, having let the staff know in advance, found on arrival that they had put up a banner and scattered confetti on the table, a lovely touch. We had the mixed platter to start, which was delicious. The main courses of duck and chicken were exceptional, lovely flavours and great presentation. The atmosphere was very relaxed and although the restaurant is very open, it somehow felt private. The staff were polite and attentive, without being too much. A wonderful experience and we only wish that we lived closer so we could visit more often. We would thoroughly recommend this restaurant.

We were the last to leave, and we were so busy chatting and catching up that we didn't notice the staff stood at the reception area waiting to go home. We have lived near this restaurant since it opened but never considered a visit until this week. What a lovely place! As soon as we walked in we were struck by both its interior and the warm welcome we received. The menu is varied - something for everyone. Service was excellent and the food delicious - the overall evening was a pleasure. I have given the Yum Tom an overall excellent rating but for those with mobility problems, access to the restaurant and to the toilets is challenging. Worth checking out first.

This was our first visit, and what a pleasant experience it turned out to be, with excellent value for money. The food was beautifully presented, and each dish was well balanced with some subtle flavours. The Thai wines proved to be a perfect accompaniment to the spices, and should be tried if you are not familiar with them. Service was first rate, the staff pleasantly attentive ensuring there was the right gap between courses. I can certainly recommend it and will be going back again soon. It is a real shame that planning restrictions on the listed building have prevented access being provided for disabled people down the steps from the adjacent car park. Overall, we had a lovely evening.

Hadn't eaten Thai before so a member of staff talked me through the menu, explaining all the different flavour combinations and recommended what she thought I would like - her choice was perfect. Me & the girlfriend impromptu decided to visit Tom Yum tonight for our tea, and I'm glad we did! I managed to book a table for two en route, and all of the female staff were incredibly friendly upon arrival.The restaurant appears to be situated underneath an old mill factory, but inside the interior looks incredibly authentic.The staff are attentive & punctual, without you feeling like they're punching on you the moment you sit down at your table.A great food selection, reasonably priced as well. We will definitely return!

Went on Sunday night with great expectations after reading reviews and having been recommended. Arrived at 8pm (they close at 9 on Sunday) which may have been the problem. Food was not good in relation to my experience (Thai is a favourite). Biggest disappointment was a coconut curry which had no substance - very watery and bland. Service was pleasant, pleasant atmosphere. I think we might have been unlucky.
