The Woodman and Olive in East Hertfordshire

Just wanted to say how bloody fantastic our meal was at Easter. Everything was great, food, atmosphere, staff, literally haven't got a bad word to say, couldnt wait to go back. Returned a few weeks ago just with the hubby for a few drinks, started at 4 and left at closing. Felt so comfortable and relaxed. Booked for Greek Easter and taking family and friends with us and have been telling everyone they need to visit.

Absolutely Devine roast dinner! Best one I have had in a long while. They also do gluten free gravy which is rare. Lovely service and beautiful atmosphere. Thank you for making my Sunday me and my partner will be back for sure.

Went for mothers day, fantastic food, old school deserts, brilliant service and great atmosphere will definitely be going back. They were so good with our kids as well.

What an excellent pub! Serving delicious Greek food served by friendly and attentive staff. The pub is located in the beautiful countryside so it's away from the hustle and bustle, it's very cosy and intimate. We came and watched the football and the atmosphere was great. Calamari was absolutely delicious, it really feels like you're eating from abroad and love the fact they serve the tentacles (feet) cooked beautifully. I want to also point out how tasty the sheftalies were😍 definitely won't be the last time we're here! 11/10!!

Came into this pub after a long hike with the wife, the staff and manger moved mountains and other furniture for us. Food was amazing (Sunday roast). Cannot recommend enough

Staff were fantastic, really helpful and friendly and food was goooood, especially the brownie. The garden area is massive and I can imagine in the summer this would be a fantastic place to come and eat, chill & bring the kids as they have a big garden. There is also a side area with a football goal - bring a ball! :)

Came here for the Xmas menu of a starter, main and pudding.... absolutely lovely food! And what a lovely little pub as well... so cosey and the staff, couldn't fult them at all. Absolutely great night and decent cocktails too

7 of us for an afternoon prosecco brunch. v impressed that we could have gin, porn star or prosecco. as one who hates prosecco i was very happy! DJ was great lots of 80's,90's music had us all up dancing. only negative was our table was by the dj so quite hard to hear each other. Food ok, nothing special, but filled us up. 1 .5 hours of drink included. lovely time and will return x

Excellent food , create service & amazing atmosphere. We attended the firework display which was complementary of the Woodman, hot chocolate, mulled wine and marshmallows were served, altogether a great evening .

Just had my grandsons 1st birthday party here. What a success fabulous food and so much. The owners and team take such care in making you feel welcome and taking care of you. Faultless in every way can’t wait to come back with friend's for dinner.

I'm a tourist and wanted to go to a good pub and while adventuring we stumbled across this and decided to go there for dinner. Absolutely amazing idea! The staff is absolutely lovely and the food was amazing. Highly recommend!

What a lovely find! We came across this gem today whilst out nearby and fancied stopping for something to eat. The Sunday roasts were delicious and the service was great. A really lovely, well run and friendly pub with great food to top it off. We will be back again.

I never write reviews but I have to say if ever there was a restaurant/ pub that was worth a review. It was this one. I would say that this is the best pub roast dinner I've ever had and as I am now 53 years old, I would say that is an achievement full marks to the restaurant and the staff you deserve. All the success because you clearly put your heart and soul into the business

Went here for lunch, they have a Greek menu and food was pretty good and reasonable priced. They have a large garden so good to go in the summer. The staff were very nice here, friendly, knowledgeable and on the ball, great job 👏

I recently had the unfortunate experience of dining at a restaurant that left me utterly disappointed on all fronts. It's disheartening to see what was once a culinary gem plummet to such dismal depths. Customer Service: The first letdown was the abysmal customer service. I was met with an air of indifference as soon as I walked in, and it only went downhill from there. The Asian lady behind the bar, presumably in charge of taking orders, was the epitome of rudeness. She made no effort to greet us or make us feel welcome, leaving a sour taste in our mouths from the very beginning. Food Quality: The ultimate betrayal came in the form of our meals. We ordered the chicken and lamb dishes, both of which were promised to be the highlight of the menu. Instead, we were served dry, badly seasoned, and tasteless pieces of meat. It was as if the chef had completely forgotten how to season or cook these dishes properly. The lack of flavor and moisture made it an ordeal to swallow each bite. Pricing: To add insult to injury, the prices were outrageously high for the dismal quality of food and service we received. It felt like a daylight robbery, and I can't help but lament the days when the previous owners and chef took pride in their offerings and cared about their patrons. This experience was a far cry from the wonderful, delectable meals I once enjoyed at this establishment.

Probably the worst food and service I have ever had and for the amount of money we paid it’s unbelievable! I complained about my dinner as I was served a plate of bones and packet cous cous after waiting well over an hour to be told I didn’t complain quickly enough even though there was no waiters around to complain to. £25 for lamb bones and rude slow service. So under staffed save your money and only have a drink here

Best place i have had a decent roast and actually enjoyed it. Outdoor space is good for the kids to have fun. Atmosphere is wicked

First time for me at the Woodman & Olive but we will definitely be back. When we arrived we were made to feel welcome. Drinks ordered quickly and served. Ordered the food and were told that the pork tomahawks ordered for 2 of our party would take 35 minutes but they were worth waiting for and they looked delicious. Most of us had roast beef or others meats. I would say the roast dinner was the best roast I & others said they had had in any restaurant. The brownie dessert was lovely too. Excellent & such friendly service the whole time we were there and I am so glad we choose the Woodman & Olive .

We booked the woodman and olive on recommendation to celebrate my uncle’s wedding anniversary. We were a party of 18. The food was fantastic, very authentic, tasty and plenty of it. We gave our orders in advance so I think it helped but the staff were fantastic, very attentive, polite, happy and genuinely lovely people. It’s very good value for money in a very clean and welcoming environment. It’s a real gem of a place that I know we will visit again.

We went with our family for a Sunday lunch , the meal was amazing , the portions were huge and the service was 5 star !. There was a private party in the marquee for a christening , which added to the great atmosphere outside in the garden . The staff are attentive and the Manager Chris always makes you feel special

Went for dinner there today had roast turkey the whole dinner was disgusting potatoes seemed like tgry had been cooked and kept warm they were like bullets brocoli the whole 2 sprigs of it was raw turkey was not to bad no gravy I wanted to ask for my money back but couldn't with the company I was either meal was un edible the worst I've ever had I will bever go back

I’ve been here a couple of times recently, once for a midweek business lunch - amazing kebab perfectly cooked and substantial portions- and then for Sunday lunch today. The food has been gorgeous on both occasions but, more importantly, the service has been both friendly and attentive. It’s a lovely family-run pub and a stark contrast to the experience in corporate chain competitors. And the area is beautiful, with woods on the doorstep for the perfect post-prandial stroll.

This place looks lovely and has nice grounds. However they were so disorganised! They brought out our children’s meals half an hour before ours and when we finally got ours the meat was so tough and tasteless, we were very disappointed. We would have sent it back had it not been for the hour wait we’d already had and the fact that our children had all eaten and were getting fed up of waiting! Other people were also complaining when we were there too. I must say I was very impressed with the kids eat for a pound offer and all being said, their food was good.

We have been to this restaurant many times over the years, and have visited 3 times this year, always go as a group of 6. We always order a variety of starters, some of our favorites such as the courgette & feta keftedes weren't available the last 2 occasions.The dips portion has reduced in size. Mains were over cooked and under seasoned, presentation was nothing like it used to be. This is a real shame as this place was good, however over the last year i think it has deteriorated due to the amount of customers. Staff cannot keep up with the demand and the attentiveness to food taste and presentation has gone down significantly. I also find there is always new waiters some of which are OK and some haven't a clue. Last 2 visits the food was cold due to us sitting in the garden and waitress couldn't find our table due to our table number which was written on a glass bottle faded. This resulted in our food going for a long walk. I hope some one reads this and makes the changes required to bring the standards back up. Don't disregard this place with some small changes it be the gem it once was.

Wonderful Greek restaurant. I recommend from the bottom of my heart. The staff and owners are lovely, the atmosphere is perfect for weddings and celebrations, huge children's play area with bouncy castle and football pitch. Food is delicious. You have to visit!

Attended a 70th birthday party here and it was absolutely amazing! The souvla was some of the best I have had anywhere. I haven’t stopped telling people to go there! Booking a table for my birthday for my birthday celebrations soon !

Had an early dinner with the family with great play area for the kids and lucky to have the bouncy castle outside the kids loved it. The staff were nice and the food / drink good we had the chicken and pork gyros.

We went to the restaurant yesterday for lunch. We had to wait for the food but it was all cooked fresh. We ordered the salad and it was delicious. Will definitely be returning.

Went on a Tuesday lunch with a couple of friends. Early 12 noon. Nice warm atmosphere and welcome. Gutted we couldn't have souvla as its only on weekends. Souvlakia were tasty, fresh salads, spicy bastourma, great asakhi super dry beer on draft. Overall nice experience. Would go again.

Nice place friendly staff but expensive for drinks

I went here for a mid week quick lunch with my mum. It was almost empty which didn't bode well. We both ordered a chicken Gyro. It was awful. The meat was so dried up and overcooked that it resembled bacon. I think it must have been reheated left overs and the chicken content was mean for a main course that cost £10. We were offered more chicken, but it was just as awful as the first. Dried up and greasy too. I would not return there again or recommend it.

The service, the starters and the desserts were all good but the mains were all very disappointing - so much so that we were given a free drink in compensation. How can a restaurant serve up such good starters and such really poor mains? There is something wrong in the kitchen. The 4 of us shared starters of olives, homous, grilled haloumi, beetroot salad and calmari and thoroughly enjoyed them but the mains were definitely a totally different standard. I chose the Grilled Vegetable Skewer which is described on the menu as 2 skewers of mushroom, red onion , aubergine & courgette cooked on the charcoal served with a tasty tomato bulgur wheat. Mine not only did not come on a skewer but the accompanying bulgur wheat was far too dry. To be fair when I told the waiter he brought out a moist tasty bowl of bulgur wheat - but why only after I complained? We will not return

Ten of our family booked lunch here on Sunday 29th January for a birthday the following day. Although we’ve lived close to the pub for six years we’ve never been in but chose it as it’s dog friendly and had just got a puppy. A lovely homely pub with the friendliest of staff and delicious food. Puppy was made so welcome!

Had a really fresh late lunch with fantastic desserts. It's a really comfy interior and everyone was super pleasant/friendly and helped us to get back to railway station. Great stop off point for leg 10a of Hertfordshire Way, it's exactly the mid-point of walk.

Visited on a Friday night and the place was empty. The menu had changed drastically from my last visit. Very limited and not very appealing at all, not sure if the place had been taken over by new owners again or not. Paid for drinks...

Had my baby boy’s christening here in the marquee outside. It was outstanding! The owner Kyri and his wife Maria could not have been more accommodating. Nothing was a problem. They were so friendly and the communication from them leading up to the day was fantastic. The food was delicious and there was so much! People had to take some home. My guests all loved the grass area leading off from the marquee that allowed the children to play freely on all of the park equipment there. It’s a closed in area so parents could relax knowing their children were safe. There is also a big car park so there were no issues with parking. Everyone had the best time. I really couldn’t recommend it highly enough. We returned there for a friend’s christening a few weeks later and again the place excelled itself. All members of staff work hard and are super friendly. It’s a lovely family place with huge hospitality. Definitely have your event there, or just go for dinner- you won’t regret it!

Today I had chicken Caesar salad it was was lovely lots of salad lots of chicken and Parmesan the prawn tempura was nice too very well presented, nothing was too much Trouble for the staff they were really accommodating will be back next week

Lovely looking restaurant and very nice and welcoming staff however the food was a massive let down overpriced small portions and burgers were not home made as expected but frozen. Such a shame as location is amazing but so far from authentic Greek food. Had better from local kebab shop. Really disappointed.

The Woodman and Olive is like no other Greek restaurant I have ever been to. They've set the bar so high it's unbeatable. We had a birthday party in their gorgeous outdoor area. The kids were so happy playing in the park space. Everyone was absolutely blown away by the food and venue. All our guests commented, at some point, on how fabulous the space is. The food is simply to die for, there's no other way to put it. A truly exceptional restaurant in every way. Kyri and his staff went above and beyond. Their patience and kindness is unmatched. They made it so easy to organize and made countless accommodations for us. Chris was an absolute angel, lending me a hand whenever I needed him throughout even though he was extremely busy. I honestly can't thank them enough for the amazing evening we've had. They are clearly professionals, but the warmth and friendly nature of the business provides such a welcoming environment that you feel like family. I would recommend The Woodman and Olive to anyone, both as a venue space or just for dinner. I can't wait to return! Thank you so so much for giving our family another beautiful memory together.

First time at this restaurant since the new management, sadly we were not so content as before. The place is looking very nice and the staff friendly but the food and menu is a let down, portions are ok but the flavours are really lost , had the chicken souvlaki and had no taste at all had to put so much salt and sauces to eat it, my partner had the very expensive mix grill, great presentation but no flavour again , liked the calamari lovely but overall the meat needs more flavour for the prices charged it was a let down. We only visit occasionally but it could benefit on improvement. Shame because it’s such a lovely place but the food is in need of tlc!

I’ve attended an engagement party and christening at the independently owned ‘Woodman and Olive’, I can honestly say, the service and food have been impeccable. It’s authentic Greek cuisine, variety of cocktails and super friendly / attentive staff is a fantastic formula for both an event or casual dinner. If you want a touch of Cyprus in Wormley, I could not recommend this and the baklava cheesecake more!!!
