Best Haddock I've had in years, and beautiful dark chips. Delivery service was excellent too.

Dried up greasy chips awful. I'll never set foot inside the shop again. Went in for chips about 6.30pm ish so chips should be freshly not dried up.

1st and last time here. Food was barely warm, Chips were bland. We had a kids fish n chips with beans meal. The beans were all over the chips and fish which made it all soggy. The same with another meal which was pie, chips and mushy peas. Again the mushy peas had been poured onto the pie and the pie then upside down onto the chips. All soggy pastry. Can of drink was not packed in the bag, rang up and the lady on the phone was not really that bothered. Waste of 💰

I always take my Grandchildren here because my granddaughter has celiac disease and they provide gluten free options. The food is always excellent and my grandchildren look forward to going because the owners are so friendly too. It is a proper family owned business and we plan to visit for l long time yet to come. X

So helpful brought a delivery to eye kettleby lakes after being let down by another chip shop. The food was lovely and piping hot I would highly recommend them

Food was overloaded with grease and while it was okay I wouldn't go again.

Lovely chips, piping hot, well cooked. Large portion easily enough for 2. Will be making this my regular chippy.

I ride a motorbike. I choose a place to go and then hunt for a chippy. I find myself in Melton having travelled the great biking road from Mkt Harb. What a find!, great fish and chips and at a great price. Sensible sized portions so I’m not wanting more, like the last place I visited but neither am I shoving chips down that I don’t need. I sat on a bench on Melton high street (what a high life I lead!) loving every mouthful. I did have the fish and chips open (not wrapped) which always makes batter better, and they were frying with new potatoes - not sure if that makes a difference. Either way, I’ll be back! Thanks

Used to have food from here on a regular basis but the overall standard became hit and miss and eventually went to another chippy in town. Unfortunately yesterday, a Bank Holiday meant the usual one was closed so my wife tried Wise Place to see if there was any change in their food. On seeing and tasting the food, I must admit it has changed, but for the worse. The chips looked nice and brown until you tried them. Awful and bland is the best description and was obvious they were cooked in the earlier shift and had been recooked. Worse I have ever had. The gravy had a thick skin on it which again would suggest that it had been standing for quite a while and was luke warm at best. Even the pie was something else and again it was so soggy it tasted as if it had been warm for hours. Will never return and would rather starve than face something like that again. Perhaps I should have put it all in their bin instead of ours.

The best chippy in Melton! I have visited the wise place longer than I can remember and wouldn’t go anywhere else. The fish is to die for, so fresh and delicious. All the food is freshly prepared and piping hot. The shop is immaculately clean and all the staff are so friendly and professional. Well done Chris snd Tina.

Inedible It’s not often I refuse food but this went straight in the bin. Half of the chips weren’t cooked. The rest were just vile

Rang & ordered, ready on time when collected, beautiful cod, batter was superb, chips & peas absolutely lovely couldn’t fault it, best fish & chips we’ve had for ages, helpful staff, everything 10 out of 10 what’s not to like!

Best Chippy around, We have just eaten the best Fish and Chips we have had for a very long time very meaty fish so fresh and well cooked. Although there is a chippy in our village it is no where near as good as the Wise Plaice. Used the online ordering with no problem and picked up on time Thank you folks

Tried a few fish and chip shops in and around Melton over the last 5 years. Opted for Wise Plaice, after the wife mentioned this is where she used to come when she was a child. We were not disappointed. Fish cooked to perfection in a light batter and chips were spot on. Value for money and friendly service. The best chippy in Melton, by some distance.

One of the best fish and chip shops for miles around! Quality ingredients at its freshest. Generous portions fried to perfection. Gluten free options also available which are highly recommended. Delivery service now available which I would recommend as it was quick delivery and the food was piping hot.

The only place in Melton that I trust to go for gluten free fish and chips! They are amazingly helpful and accommodating here and the fish and chips is the best in town, perfect every time. Definitely glad I found them as I struggle with any takeaway but here I feel happy and safe when ordering. Wouldn’t go anywhere else now 😄

I think I saw on Trip Advisor that I could get gf here... we went last night and the choice of food was incredible !! The chap has gf batter and offers almost the same menu in gf! I had fish and chips and it was AWESOME! The batter was light and crispy. It was utterly delicious and a fabulous find! All cooked fresh to order! Perfect!

I've always loved this place, but I placed a huge office order yesterday lunch time and we were all really pleased. Delivery was super fast and the food was still nice and hot when it arrived. Will definitely be ordering again!

We popped in on our way back to Leicester from Grantham. Heard good reviews about it from other people who are coeliac. They have a wide range of GF battered foods and fries. The battered fish was freshly made and delicious. The chips were also good. We normally go to Grimsby Fisheries in Leicester for their special GF day on Monday. But these guys were possibly better. You could not distinguish the difference in the batter from normal non GF batter. And the fish was delicious and perfectly cooked. On top of this the prices and portions are very good.

I have not used The Wise Place for many years because we live out of town, so thought I would try it. The result being, the best Fish and chips we have had for years. Beautiful flaky Cod with crisp batter and well cooked Chip even after a six mile journey home. We will return.

The other reviews of this place are good but I can only report what I found on the night, and what I found was definitely NOT good! I called in on an evening when the town centre was quite busy because there was some kind of vintage car event at the nearby market place. The Wise Plaice was empty, though - perhaps that should have been a warning. I attempted to buy chips and a beef and onion pie, but the only choice of pies available were steak and kidney or chicken (even though various others were listed on the menu boards). I didn't fancy either of those so I opted for a sausage instead. Once home (5 minute drive), I immediately regretted choosing the sausage, which was rubbish quality. It was filled with something resembling porridge in texture and had an unpleasant chemical taste. The chips were cold, dried out and very greasy. I suspect they'd been made some considerable time prior to being served to me. As I said, this may have been an off-day for the chippy, but I certainly wasn't impressed and I'd choose one of the other establishments in Melton another time.

Fish and chips takes a lot of beating hot and fresh with crispy batter strongly recommended great food the staff greet you with a smile and can exchange friendly conversation with you they come across as very dedicated reliable staff really great service good food. Love it .a great take away .

Just had our fish and chips delivered from the wise place. Can honestly say they were the best I've had for many years. The fish was beautiful and nothing was greasy. Great food at a great price delivered free ! And with 50% off next time !!

Have been a regular customer for around a year now. The staff here, particularly the couple who own it, are very down to Earth and friendly. In terms of quality, the fish is always succulent and the chips are never greasy or overcooked. If you have an allergy or intolerance to gluten like myself, then look no further as they offer some great gluten free options. I would also recommend their new delivery service, have used it several times since it was introduced in late 2017 and the food has always arrived piping hot and exactly to order.

Really good traditional fish and chips cooked properly, along with all the usual other menu items. They also do gluten free fish in about 20 minutes. Either call ahead or wait. It is popular so it can get crowded at popular times.

My husband and I have just had cod and chips from here, and I can honestly say, it was the best fish either of us have ever eaten. Fish was fresh, not too much batter, which incidentally was lovely and crispy. Highly recommended. 😀😀😀😀

They provide really good, classic fish and chips.Can sometimes be a long queue but they work as quickly as possible to make sure that you don't have to wait very long.
