Food used to be much better before, but it won't come back

I recently visited The Winchmore and was impressed by their fantastic selection of gins and the warm, family-friendly atmosphere. I've added it to my barguide.london site too!

Had a table booked the day before but when we turned up they had no record of booking. No big deal they managed to move a few things and seated us all together with out much fuss. We all had roast chicken, beef and the ultimate (bit of everything) Meal very nice roasties nice and the veg was superb. If there is any negative it would be that the younger servers could do with a little bit more enthusiasm and attentiveness, maybe more training. But this does not take away from the great food.

Does a decent roast. A great place to go for food with the family. Staff are all friendly. Only downside is the beer selection which is all macro. They used to have a cask beer on but there's been nothing on my last two visits.

Had Sunday roast, potatoes were impossible to cut. We had to ask for a carving knife

Horrible experience, I suspect it is not LGBTQIA+ user friendly as the landlord specifically said no gays allowed and laughed and said why am I a male with pink fair. And to put the cherry on top I found a dead cockroach in my beer glass. Just when I finished hahaha

Shocking service tonight, asked several times to put the Olympics on. The manager is awful, didn’t accommodate us. Wouldn’t recommend. This is our local too, we’ve supported many years & my son used to work there.

Staff were absolutely lovely and attentive, laid back casual atmosphere food came quickly, no delays seeing as it was Father's Day.

Excellent food, service and very welcoming, friendly staff. Most pleasant experience. Not been here for a few years but this pub, in it's various guises over many years, has served my whole family, from my parents since the 1930's, to myself and my sons to date. Although no longer regulars after our experience today we will definitely be looking forward to our next visit. Highly recommend.

Was there for a sad occasion but the staff and food were excellent!

Absolutely dreadful service (non-existent, being the problem!) I live virtually next door so have been a handful of times as I really would like to frequent this place, but today was the very final straw. Food is good and not badly priced (when you can get served), but more times than not, the service has been extremely slow. Even family who visited from over 100 miles away commented how slow the service was, which is quite embarrassing when you’re taking guests for a meal. Another time I managed one course and a drink in two hours. And twice, including today, I’ve been totally ignored and not had a single of the numerous bar staff come over to take an order, no matter how much eye contact I make or how evident I make it that I’ve looked at the menu, even on a very quiet late afternoon when the pub was mostly empty. I’d love to return being so close, but I’m afraid I simply can’t. They say their neighbours mean the world to them, it’s a shame that serving their neighbours doesn’t mean anything to them.

I visited this beautiful pub while on vacation from the US to catch a soccer game. Great location, close to two stadiums, amazing restaurant style food in a warm British pub atmosphere. The staff is friendly and welcoming, my favorite part being that it pet friendly.

The staff are super friendly and helpful - they went out of their way to help us surprise our friend for her birthday!

This has really established itself as a great local since it opened, I have no hesitation in recommending it to anyone whether they want a drink or sit down meal. Very friendly place, but the quality is its forte. Update Apr 24: really good Friday night parties here now with DJs and a bit of dancing, it gets very busy but with a great atmosphere. The other days are quieter so good to go out for a drink and a chat. They have also built a new enclosed/covered outside area that can be used all year round.

We are near regulars at this pub. The food is honest well prepared and tasty. There is something for everyone. We have never had a disappointment. The staff are very friendly, welcoming and helpful. We will keep coming.

Good food, good selection of beers and excellent selection of good whisky. Bonus is it's dog friendly.

First time we have been there . Been to many pubs in the area for Sunday lunch I rate this very highly we had a little room to the side of the bar 18 of us the staff were excellent clean and tidy. The portions were very good. The food itself was excellent good Sunday lunch fair . I can’t say anymore.

Good Sunday lunch-not as good as I make but nevertheless very enjoyable Asked for roast beef rare and it was Portion was a bit mean -2 thin slices -but lots of nicely cooked veggies -cabbage beans carrots and parsnips Great vibe in the pub -tables and chairs a bit tatty but very authentic and not pretentious Best thing about this place was the staff -our waitress Natasha was awesome-recommended the house wine that was very quaffable- attentive but not intrusive enthusiastic but not over bearing Bill for 2+ bottle of house wine £67 + tip Will return with our noisy family and get a whole shoulder of lamb or rib of beef with all the trimmings next time N.B tried booking on line and it said no tables -rang the venue and they found us a table no problem-always telephone for a table x

The food was beautiful and hot. The roast was super yummy. The ice cream glass was frozen. The little things done well are no small thing in this time of poorly chain pubs. Great friendly service. Accommodating our dog. Couldn't recommend this independent well run local pub with great food more.

The roast was absolutely delicious and we got pigs in blankets. I didnt have dessert but my friend had apple pie and loved it. The staff were super friendly and attentive. I will definitely come back again. Edit - I did go back again and was disappointed as I had enquired before to check they were showing the rugby. They were only showing it on a small screen, next to the toilets, with no sound on. In addition the Jerk Chicken pizza was so bland and dry. For live sports and spicy food this pub seems lacking.

We came to the pub for Mother’s Day. The roast was unbelievable! The yorkshires tasted amazing, herbs and seasoning on the veg was great too. I had the lamb and it’s the best lamb at a pub roast in a very long time. The pub was extremely busy- as you can imagine, however the staff were very intentive and asked if we needed anything many times. 100% would recommend.

Sadly, it's not the experience I was hoping for. Food wasn't to a good standard or presented well. Disappointing and wont rush back.

Such a wonderful, friendly locals pub where the staff go out of their way to make your visit a pleasurable one. The food is amazing at a great price with offers throughout the week. Amazing food and drinks, great service!

Excellent lunch, we both had the Thursday rib special at £10. The service was superb matching the quality of the food. Great background music, not intrusive but adding to the pleasurable experience. Highly recommended.

Not been in here for a while so thought it was time to check it out. The service was excellent, very friendly bar staff. As a whisky drinker I was pleased to see around 20 whiskies from around the world, scotch, Irish, Welsh, American, Japanese and Indian. I settled for the Indian, Amrut at £7 a measure. A lovely floral whisky which you rarely find in a pub. Will certainly be returning.

We’ve been looking for a place in Enfield/Winchmore Hill where we can eat a properly home cooked Sunday roast. Finally we have found it! The Winchmore serves delicious Sunday Roast. I had the roast lamb. Others had roast chicken and roast beef. All equally delicious.

Great pup, lovely atmosphere Every one very helpful and kind. My wife and.i always visit at least 3 to 4 times a week during our nightly local walk. We tend to use it mainly for drinking, but we have plans to change to a mixture of food and drink. Edison

Amazing food. Friendly staff. When I booked a private party, the place was dirty and we were o nly given 1h to decorate. I was told there is another party before us but that was a lie, as the place was clearly unused. Dirty and extremely cold. Once I raised the issues a few times, everything got fixed but it wasn't nice to arrive and see this first thing

Booked the function room November 2023 for January 2024 wedding. Orla's very accommodating and provided me the information needed for the occasion. Initially being informed that there were no bookings prior to the date I reserved so we could decorate the place the night before the wedding day. Haven't heard from them until the 4th of January when I emailed them if we can go ahead with the decoration in PM only to find out that there's also a party happening in the afternoon of the 5th, which is my wedding day. I was so surprised coz if I have been informed that they will take another booking on the same day, we could have made a better plan on how we could decorate the venue. On the other hand, I am thankful that the parents of the celebrant in the afternoon allowed us to keep our decors in the function room, so that once its our time to use the venue, we're just going to set it up. Thought this will work but when we arrived, the floor wasn't swept, tables and chairs are not set up.. Some of my guest are already there and even asking each other if they are on the right venue.. When the staff saw me, it is only when they hurriedly set the chairs and tables. The sound system was not set up as well, when I've been told that its fully functioning. Food wise, I cannot complain at all as they have the best smoked salmon salad and roast chicken I've ever tasted however service wise, no one, and I mean no staff on the function room present to oversee what's happening and what needs to be done. I (the bride, on my wedding dress) need to go down on the bar to ask when are they going to start serving some refreshments and the appetizer.. (Forgot the name of the lad who somehow came and served on the entirety of the night, I am very thankful to him at least there is someone who help us get through the reception). That's the only time they go upstairs when I go down, asking them to bring something up. Am still getting sad when I think of what happened that day coz I expect that they will be very accommodating knowing that it is a special day for me and my husband and also for my guests. I just hope that the next time someone will book the function room for a wedding, that they can be more hands on and consider to communicate with their clients so that if changes are need to be done, they could plan ahead.

Great family friendly pub. The menu caters for plant based as well as meat eaters. All meals were delicious and were generous portions. Staff were friendly offering table and bar service.

Good, menu very basic roasts good but a bit too much tomato on the pizza base

Turned up and very busy. However, the pub had separate staff for diners and despite being Christmas Eve we were not abandoned and the service was swift & efficient. Very nice restaurant staff, and affordable for family of five. Clearly, staff have a vested interest in getting things done properly, and their apparent maturity stood out when you are comparing against your usual chain rivals. All in all very impressed and I will spread the word and will definitely be back!

Great local pub. We went for Sunday lunch. The pub was absolutely packed to the gunnels but the service was excellent. The staff must be exhausted by the end of the day. The food was good. We had the Sunday lunch for people who cant decide, and it was very good, and very filling. Not one for the feint hearted!!

We had our daughter's 7th birthday party upstairs last Saturday - the staff could not have been more accommodating or helpful and made the whole thing as stress free as possible. The fact they were hosting eight parties on the same day tells it's own story - a terrific, well run pub and thoroughly recommended if you're looking for somewhere to host your special occasion. Oh - and the kid's pizzas were great too. I know because I ended up eating a few slices! Proper pizzas from a proper pizza oven.

Really nice for the private party I attended in the conservatory .it was a cold day so a bit chilly to start..soon warmed up with really cute tasty food.tiny cheese burgers. mini kebabs .small gourgon and chips . Served In stages to accommodate flexible guests..really nice

Shame owners dog did big poo by our table ...made a few of us feel sick and others laugh...unhygienic . To be fair to have dog begging at a works party was unacceptable

Well this is one definitely to come back too. Had the Sunday roast Lamb leg with all the trims for an absolute bargain. It was delicious. The best by far this year. For me a well deserved 10. My dog was welcomed and the atmosphere is excellent. Sorry only an empty plate to show

Ordered roast beef. Meat wasn't the best. Sliced too thin, big Yorkshire pudding and potatoes to make up for meat. Two separate kids parties that ruined a peaceful lunch. It is a family pub and this is my personal opinion.

Классный паб. Чисто британский. Одни белые кругом. Бухие, веселые, собственно как и я. Набор стандартный по меню, пиво как и везде (реально свежее). Нахрюкался я там ровно. Без блажи и мордобоя. Официантка улыбалась (верный признак того что я был в адеквате). Заказывал пиццу и потом ещё закусок горячих (куриные крылышки барбекю, сыр жареный во фритюре, кальмара в кляре, картофель фри и немного зелени. Все довольно аппетитно. П.с. нечаянно брызнул струёй мимо унитаза, да простят меня хранители паба, но я был в зюзю.

We booked a table for lunch and an hour later were told we would have to move as the next sitting had arrived? We said we had only been there for an hour and they allowed us to keep the table for an extra 30 minutes!!! It took 30 minutes to be served when we arrived. Waiters were constantly trying to clear our table when when one of us was still obviously eating. Food was okay but the pub was cold as no heating on and the service was not great. Definitely better pubs in the area to visit.

Great roast lamb and dog friendly.

We had lamb pie and steak and guiness pie. Both came steaming hot with mashed potatoes and gravy with kale and broccoli on the side.. The meat was very tender. Delicious. Add Guinness and football and we had a perfect night.

One of the best roast dinners I’ve had in a long time! Guy was serving he went above expectations! We will be back!

Mark the prior owner used to encourage the old staff to harass me the 125 bus because I stopped going to the pub. The police have also told me Elly stole contacts off my phone when it was charging behind and the bar. I will sue this place and involve the police for this. Mark also gave a bogus statement to the police in support of a security guard who had harassed me for a period of eight months which be readdressed by the police and in court of law. Now days they keep on making the "accident" on putting in my pin twice when it says waiter ID on the pdq. Avoid

A very good lunch. The salt and pepper squid was excellent as was the burger and portions were generous. We will be back!

Update: I did come again and was a bit disappointed this time. The parsnips were uncooked and inedible. The meal came with a drizzle of gravy. We asked for more gravy and we got an espresso-sized portion. Why so stindgy with the gravy! If you gave more I might not have noticed how dry the Yorkshire pudding was. Nonetheless, the atmosphere is nice and they’re dog friendly. Their roasts can be good but they need more quality control. Surprising good roast dinner. I would come again.

Went to my best friend's engagement party- The hall was upstairs and was very nice. Didn't smell of alcohol as I expected which was very good and the bartender was very good with our drinks. Good size hall could easily fit 100 people and a cosy layout!

Busy pub, lots of groups in families, friends, good range of beers.

Visited for fathers day and they had a Sunday lunch menu with roasts, pizzas and starters. Vibe is very family and sadly the exterior looks a lot more upmarket than in the interior as there are rips etc on the seats/booth.

Stopped here for a drink and a bit of lunch. It was really warm so sat outside, which was really nice. The drinks were a bit price, but the food was really good and reasonably priced.
