The whole earth cafe bistro in Monmouthshire

Food was good and atmosphere was friendly but expensive for what it was. Thai prawn crackers cost a penny or two so difficult to justify the price here. Also the corkage charge was over the top.

Absolutely delicious Thai food, and the owner was so welcoming to our two young children too (she made them plain / less spicy noodles to suit). Laid back and relaxed but could also be great for a romantic meal out. It's BOYB as well which keeps things easy on the pocket. Well recommended if you are in the area on a Thursday, Friday or Saturday night.

Outstandingly good food, lovely service. The manager welcomed me warmly and served me one of the best Thai curries I have ever had. Then she welcomed members of my family as they arrived and sorted them out with all types of food and beverages. Really lovely experience

Absolutely fantastic food, really nice feel to the place too. The staff were brilliant and friendly. Lots of choice for coeliacs and vegetarians, and coeliac vegetarians! Will definitely be going back, and can't recommend it enough!

We dined here on Saturday and had the most fabulous time, again! The restaurant was full and cosy on a really cold night. The staff were so welcoming and attentive and as ever the food was fantastic. The chef/owner is not only cooking but pops in and out of the restaurant to make sure everyone is happy and has enough to eat. She offered to wrap up what we couldn’t finish and even topped it up so we had more to take home, and gave us a new year gift. She is such a kind and generous lady and it is so clear how much passion she has. We love it here so much. Do not leave Monmouth without eating here!

been many times, probably abut 10 times of a couple of years - I am not local but visit my family in Monmouth - this restuarant provides consistent lovely service, amazing food and not expensive! I thoroughly recommend this restuarant, but don't all go or I won't get a space!! And the owner seems to remember you every time!

A friend reccomended this place, tucked away in swan court. Cafe by day and Thai restaurant in the evening. Lovely owner whose home cooked Thai food is amazing. We will defo be back again for sure 10 out of 10.

Small bistro, sharing space for the well stocked takeaway freezer may not be to everyone's liking. However if you want great food and friendly service then you won't be disappointed. Opportunity to take a frozen meal away for to enjoy at home.

We had a great two course lunch for our family of 4 (children 13 and 10) from the short but excellent Thai selection available at lunchtime. Particularly good green curry- these are often underpowered but this was just right. Great service too.

Ordered four meals - two vegetarian but both came with meat - when sent back one came minus main ingredients. Mistakes happen but did not handle in the way I would have expected

Lovely little Thai restaurant, run by Thai boss and cooks. Great food in nice quiet location I have also been here in the afternoons for coffee and cake - so much better that a high street chain coffee shop.

This is our 2nd time visiting this restaurant. We came back to Monmouth just to come here. The food was as fantastic as before!! Fresh and super tasty. The restaurant was full and had a great atmosphere. The waitresses were really friendly and welcoming and the worked really hard all night. We can’t fault it. We visited on a Saturday night, when the premises operates as a bistro. We’ve visited Thailand several times and this is the most authentic Thai meal that we’ve had outside of Thailand. Prae is welcoming and nothing is too much trouble. We had a mixed starter and fishcakes which were both yummy. Although they were fried, they weren’t greasy/oily in the slightest. We then had pad Thai (main) and Penang curry. The flavours were fantastic and a reminder of past holidays. Thank you for taking us back to some happy memories! Ordered take away.Process was simple and staff was friendly on the phone. Collected at the time suggested with no delay.The food were on the greasy side. There was a thick layer of oil floating at the top but the flavours were not bad.The pad Thai was unconventional, it tasted and looked like they used sweet chilli jam to fry it. I've never had pad Thai with sweet chilli jam.Pangnan was on the runny side but tasted alright. Could have done with more peanuts.

Its my birthday week and I chose to go to one of my favourite restaurants for a lockdown birthday takeaway. I booked via Facebook messenger, I had a very quick response and booking was easy. When I picked up my takeaway they were very prompt. Whole Earth did not disappoint, the food tasted amazing! Thank you so much, I can't wait until I am able to go out and enjoy the restaurant experience again. Sorry I forgot to take any photos.

Great meal, staff friendly. Went thanks to TA and really enjoyed. The food was delicious and obviously ingredients so fresh. I would recommend booking as it full but definitely worth the effort. Not a fine dining experience but quality Thai food, we will return.

An absolute gem of a find in Monmouth! Food freshly prepared. Freshest king prawn butterfly I have ever had and the Thai green curry is not to be missed! Served by a delightful team of ladies, only too willing to make sure we had everything we needed! Thank you so much and if we return to Monmouth we shall definitely be back!

Characterful owner with a happy, friendly and efficient service. Take your own alcohol if you like! We took a rather nice Chapel Down white sparkling! We ate Thai food for lunch. Chicken satay, beef salad. Then Pad Thai, Chicken Penang with jasmine rice. All good! Authentic Thai food. I think the Pad Thai could be enhanced with more spring Onion & fish sauce to fully release the flavour! Everything to like. Interestingly they do traditionally, English cakes and sandwiches too!

Starters and main course good quality. However customers wanting to place an order well in advance seemed an inconvenience to them and wearing a mask for their benefit did too!

We chanced on this little restaurant when looking for lunch when passing through Monmouth. We struck gold! The very friendly personal service was matched by tasty food.

15th August 2020: Take away for family of 4 (actually 5, but the 5th was away). This place is "the business"! Excellent food, generous helpings and lovely staff. We had 2 prawn Gaeng Panang, 1 chicken Gaeng Panang, and 1 chicken Gaeng Massaman - all truly delicious and bursting with flavour. Note they use fresh veg in their dishes, large tasty prawns and well sourced meat. This is top class food. Highly recommended.

The food here was fantastic, the portions were incredibly generous.l, only surpassed by the flavour packed into every plate.It was also lovely to see the chef coming out to check every customer was enjoying their meal, you can tell she loves what she is doing and wants everyone to enjoy it.We certainly enjoyed it and will be back in the future.

I dined here with my Daughter and her boyfriend on Friday evening. Excellent service and food. They don’t have a licence to sell alcohol but we’re happy for us bring our own wine.

We love this place and visit whenever we’re in Monmouth. Today was our first time since Covid but it was just as good. Plenty of outdoor seating and super friendly staff. Malteser cake was amazing and so was the green curry. We’ll def be back!

We received a very warm and friendly welcome, our order for soup of the day was taken and we sat in the warm and didn't wait too long for our fare to arrive.The soup was pea, plus a sprig of mint and was absolutely delicious. Apparently it was cooked by Bev, who is not only a wonderful cook and after chatting to her is more than charming as well.She is a fabulous asset to any business.I look forward to returning.

The Thai food was super and the soup looked amazing . Definitely top of my list, only wish I could have managed one of the very tasty looking cakes.

We are regulars here now we live in the area. Lovely friendly cafe with a wonderful Thai menu and really tasty food. Other is available of course but we just love the Thai cooking.

The tastiest food in Monmouth. Try the chicken fried rice, so tasty and very authentic, as it shouldn't be spicy at all. Everything that comes out of the kitchen is freshly prepared and cooked to a high standard. All cakes and scones are made fresh daily and are to die for. If you visit Monmouth, be sure to call in and have your tastebuds tickled. You will recieve a very warm welcome from the lovely owner Prae.

Visited the Thai restaurant last night and as always the food and service was excellent. The restaurant isn’t licensed but the owner doesn’t mind you taking your own alcohol. I would recommend booking as it’s fairly small and only open during the evening at weekends.

The food served by the lovely Thai owner of the restaurant is delightful. This a a small intimate restaurant that is not expensive, has a lovely atmosphere, delicious food and the bonus of BYO wine.

Decided to return to try a different aspect to the menu. Thai fried rice with chicken, lost on spice, very mild and disappointed Soo much potential, but lacked the normal intensity of flavour.

2 of us have allergies and they easily catered for us. Can serve milk, egg,wheat and yeast free food but the quality was not agfected at all. Top rating from us. Lovely staff. Very helpful. Even provided things for 2 year old to play with while we waited for food. A+++

Just an awesome hidden gem in Monmouth. Wow what a friendly welcome always and the food is just wow wow and wow. We really love this place and have been many times for lunch during the week and then once on a Friday when it converts to a restaurant at night. Recommended.

You get a lovely warm welcome and the food is always delicious. Lovely mix of Thai and English fayre to cater for most tastes.

A great welcome. Coffee super. Thai Tom yum soup delicious. Soup of day, leek & potato, home made and excellent with hot baguette roll. Also fresh smoked salmon and cream cheese sandwich much enjoyed. Great for our 5 year old and good value.

We always enjoy eating here. The food is freshly cooked, the service very friendly. No alcohol license so you can take your own bottles in.

We are so glad we looked on TripAdvisor and last minute decided to try this place! We called ahead and managed to bag the last table so would recommend booking, it's a small restautant. We tried the chicken penang and the chilli jam stir fry and we both enjoyed every single mouthful! Such tasty fresh food. They dont serve alcohol but you can bring your own booze in the evening. The bill only came to £34 for 2 of us with 1 starter, 2 mains and a rice.. bargain!! We will definitely be back!

Lunch stop for coffee and some sandwiches. We sat outside as we had our dogs with us while we were looking at the simple easy to understand menu the owner came out to greet us get some water for the dogs and also take our order.

We was on a weekend break visiting relatives and decided to try a meal here at this little diamond of a place, the food was second to none, I've never really tried many Thai restaurants but gave it a go, best decision of the weekend, the whole feel of the place is so relaxing, it's very small but very very welcoming, our 2 servers, Grace and Emily (hope I've remembered their names) were excellent throughout, very attentive, but not overbearing, you are encouraged to take you own drinks, so this is a nice little saving, there is an Iceland over the road to drop in to if refreshments are required, overall, great food, great service, great ambiance, I am back there next week and this will be one of the first places to book, highly recommended

We went on a Saturday evening. The restaurant is small but has a nice friendly atmosphere. I went for the chicken satay starter and the Chicken Panang. It was amazing! Every one of our party said the same. Can't recommend this place highly enough.

Visited our favourite place in Monmouth for a light lunch. We received the usual warm welcome and the food was as delicious as ever. The Thai omelette is highly recommended; simple,delicious food. Whole Earth is hidden away in Swan Court but is well worth seeking out.

10th August 2019: Dinner for 6. It's so consistent. We had a number of take aways in the months prior to this and they were all excellent, and then today - another lovely Thai meal in the restaurant itself. They have no liquor licence so you have to bring your own, but they supply glasses and don't charge corkage, and you don't end up paying a huge mark up on your wine. There's a nice choice of dishes, and although we've experimented a bit we have never had a dud dish. Service is so friendly and prompt too. Finally it's very good value. No wonder it's the number 1 recommended restaurant in Monmouth. That accolade is fully deserved. Very highly recommended.

All meals were hot and delicious using fresh herbs and chunky perfectly cooked vegetables. Reasonable waiting time and price.

We stopped here for a gap fill on a week day lunchtime. We found a seat with ease. The selection was interesting with a British/ Thai selection. I have been reliably informed that the evening Thai menu is delicious and you can take your own alcohol with no corkage. It was reasonably priced for what we had, £34ish for 4 of us to eat lunch and for non alcoholic drinks. Friendly staff.

This little hideaway cafe in Monmouth in Swan Court is one of the best places we been too. The owner is so lovely.

Prai makes us all very welcome. We can be quite noisy all talking at once but people have got used to us. Her Tai food is second to none at weekends.

We found this little cafe tucked down an alley way. A mix of Thai food and English. Good coffee and tea. Friendly staff. We shared a BLT baguette which was fresh and crisp stuffed with warm bacon and salad.

We found this place as we were wandering around Monmouth and decided to stop for lunch as we could sit outside. My husband wanted a breakfast and, despite them usually not serving breakfast at this time, the owner said she would. It looked delicious, not at all greasy, and he really enjoyed it and appreciated her being so flexible. I had the Thai southern salad with peanut sauce and tofu which was really good. We will definitely return.

Visiting for the weekend - happened upon this place in a courtyard. Went in for breakfast - freshly cooked with good quality produce. Returned the next evening for Thai dinner, as menu was tempting. BYO if alcohol is required. Again, beautifully cooked, quality food at reasonable prices. Staff very helpful and friendly. My only criticism would be perhaps a lick of paint would cheer up the decor? However, wouldn't hesitate to return when in the area.

Had a Thai takeaway which was all delicious. Authentic flavours and fresh tasting. Nicely presented with wedge of lime/chilli with the pad Thai. Went again to the restaurant for breakfast-all very fresh. The owner came to chat to us-lovely lady . Would definitely return when we next come to Monmouth.

Friday 26th April 2019. Dinner for 3. Our first visit to this cafe/bistro in many years...more fool us as it was superb and we will return again very soon. On Friday and Saturday evenings they cook Thai food. The menu is sensibly varied, but not too long. Result is that you get excellent food - well prepared with top class ingredients. Warm welcome. Service is prompt, friendly and really very good. They do not have a licence to sell alcohol so you must bring your own (no corkcage charge either) which is what we did. This means you can have what you like and the bill is miles cheaper than places that do provide alcoholic drinks - always with whopping mark ups. It's very relaxed; the venue is a cafe by day. It was busy when we went so I think booking would be advisable. Very highly recommended.

Visited after a period away but delighted that the same excellent food is on offer here. We both had the two course Thai lunch of chicken satay and green curry. Superb. Highly recommended if you're in or around Monmouth.

Really good homemade Thai crackers started this meal. We enjoyed all our dishes but highly recommend the Penang hake curry.

Have been here a few times for Thai food on a Friday or Saturday evening. What can I say, the dishes are exquisite. Fresh, fragrant, flavoursome with quality ingredients. The hake is a particular favourite of mine and my husband's. The hake portions are huge, with fresh king prawns, fresh vegetables, and a sauce which is truly heavenly for flavour. The owner is lovely; she always comes out to chat with the customers, has an amazing memory for faces and always seeks and welcomes feedback about the cooking. We were delighted to hear that this little gem is now open Thursday nights too. An extra bonus is that you can take your own alcohol. Well recommended for a quiet, off the beaten track Thai gem.

We popped in for coffee on a Saturday lunchtime. The welcome was warm and friendly, but the coffee wasn't good at all. Other people were having Thai lunches which looked lovely. We'd return, but only for the Thai food.

We love this restaurant and go about once a month. Lovely atmosphere and the owner is great always welcoming and keen to please. Good is excellent.

We visited in the evening when it was Thai night. The place is basic but the food and service were both good. The fact it's BYO also makes it very cost effective.

Well this is heaven sent as was suffering withdrawal after eating Thai food every meal on holiday. This matched the quality and especially the freshness which is key, showing the owner sources all the right fresh ingredients. Went in for a relaxing lunch - lovely Tom Yum hot and sour soup with prawns the size of Kraken. Owner is warm and welcoming and flutters by to alight for a chat with everyone now and again despite her industriousness in the Kitchen. Have tried the Green Curry for takeaway, which was ready to within the second requested, and it's certainly 'Thai Spicey' if that's what you asked for.

Had a meal here with the family whilst visiting the area. Having only had the occasional Saturday morning breakfast here we thought it would be worth trying the evening bistro. We weren't disappointed, the food and service was fantastic. We had thai green curry, beef with oyster sauce and a prawn dish - all amazing. Take your own alcohol if you drink though, as they have no licence.

Tucked away in a courtyard off the pedestrian Church Street this is a great find. We visited on a Friday which was Thai night. The green curry was excellent but the Tofu Pad Thai rather dull.

Found this little gem while searching for somewhere to eat on Friday night. Having read the reviews on tripadvisor we booked a table which was just as well as it's extremely popular and for good reason! This establishment ordinarily is only open during the day but I understand that on Friday and Saturday it features Thai nights offering a fantastic menu of Thai food cooked by the owner. We hadn't realised that the premises wasn't licensed so if booking there is the option to bring your own wine or beer. After our meal the owner came to chat to us and made us feel extemely welcome.......the establishment had such a lovely chilled vibe that we went back the next day for coffee and cake......again the cake had been freshly made that morning and was to die for. The residents of Monmouth are so lucky to have this lovely eatery we will certainly recommend to our family in Monmouth and will visit again next time in we're in the area.

Third time we have been here. Good value for money lunch. Very welcoming and unpretentious. Highly recommended.
