The White Lion in Newcastle-under-Lyme

Wow this place is not only beautiful it the food is amazing. I believe it has had quite a refurb and the owners have done an amazing job. Staff were so friendly and accommodating, I would highly recommend here to any families or couples

The Lion has been saved from closure, revamped and re-opened by new owners after a somewhat lengthy difficult and unsatisfactory period. It is now a classic country pub fit for the modern age. The kitchen and restaurant have been completely rebuilt and the bar has been re-designed and refitted, all to a high standard throughout. Unpretentious but very good quality food is available at reasonable prices. Good range of drinks with at least two cask beers. The bar is cosy at this time of year but I'm looking forward to using the attractive new outside seating area when the weather eventually improves! PS: ignore any old out-of-date reviews - the Lion has changed for the better.

An early ( 1pm) sunday lunch in the restaurant at our local which met all expectations. The new menu and staff deserve a greet review....we had the roast ( beef) and the fish dishes. Both immaculately presented and full of flavour. Attentive staff and a friendly chef. Glad to support this really well refurbished country venue and hope it thrives.

Food very underwhelming, at lunch time. The rooms were cold. I had steak sandwich, which came with no salad . Nothing else on the plate. Steak was 4 tiny strips, which were not cooked well at all, and the bread was too hard to cut even with a knife. So ,over priced as well.

We visited the White Lion for the first time at the very end of October and we were very impressed indeed. Our first impressions were good. There was plenty free parking, we got a very friendly welcome and the decor was fresh and very pleasing, The service was excellent with staff seeming to show a genuine interest in their diners by having an occasional short chat when there was a lull between courses or perhaps if someone had been left sitting on their own for a short time. The main event was of course the food. We had three different courses each and couldn't fault any of them. Portion sizes were just right, presentation was good and I don't think I have ever had more tender or flavoursome beef. All in all we had a lovely evening and hope to return when we next have something to celebrate.
