Myself and daughter booked for an early dinner at 4pm. The staff couldn't be more helpful or friendly. I phoned in advance to enquire about vegetarian options. The staff didn't mind us choosing off the dinner menu (instead of lunch menu) even though dinner service didnt officially start til 5pm, and they were so attentive. I had cajun macaroni, and my daughter the Wee Train burger. The food was absolutely delicious and massive portions. We were both stuffed when we left. Great value for money and freshly cooked food. We will be back!

What a disappointment, had really looked forward to the meal however it wasn’t worth a fiver never mind £55p/p. NO welcome drink, NO tablecloth/decorations, cold food, no veg with turkey, the salmon got a pig in blanket and a Yorkshire pudding?! 🤯 Our whole party had complaints ranging from being crammed in with no space around the table to food on each course being cold. There were 3 choices per course and they still managed to run out of things! Definitely changed days from previous chefs and owners, heard lots of bad reviews recently since last chef left however thought Christmas Day would have been good however none of our table would return for food after this expensive shambles.

A friend from Kilmarnock had constantly told me that I needed to try the Wee Train in Galston, but it just happened to be in a area I never really find myself in.After a day out in Lanark, I had planned to eat there, but the kitchen of the place I had planned was closed for the day, so decided to make my way back to Ayrshire, and while getting into the car I recalled that I would be passing by Galston, so perfect chance to head to the Wee Train.Lovely old style village pub that has been done up in a way to give it a cozy setting, but keep its old school charm.Staff are super friendly and will go right out of their way to make your stay enjoyable. Not the biggest menu, but more than enough to find something for your taste, and they do a excellent daily specials menu to select from.Had the Haggis Scotch Egg as a starter and the Wee Train Burger as a main, along with a pint. All freshly prepared in no time, and really tasty.Regret putting off coming here for so long, but its worth going out of your way to visit here for a good meal.

Table for four was booked for today, yesterday, an hour or so after our Bar Luca trauma. I’m optimistic and saw this as a palate cleanser. It was. Staff were wonderful, efficient, and attentive. Food was very good. I could go into detail, but as all four meals were excellent I feel that would be over egging a tad - pizza (‘make’ your own); steak pie, chips and veg; macaroni cheese and chips; and fish and chips with mushy peas. Followed mains with cheesecake, sticky toffee pudding and chocolate cake, all with varying combinations of ice cream and cream. I recommend The Wee Train to anyone looking for good food at fair prices. Four mains, three puddings + drinks = £63 + tip.

Getting out for a meal together at this time is rare. We chose The Wee Train for this special get together as they have never disappointed, and again, were fab. Mix of adults and children (6 of us, 2 households). All the meals were yum. Ordered off a blackboard Menu just now. This was the first time our lass had ordered herself a drink in a pub \ restaurant. We hadn't forewarned them it was a special occasion. After, yey, being asked for and showing her ID for the first time, her pink gin was presented beautifully.... as it would have been for any customer that ordered one. That one was special.Thrilled that The Wee Train is still doing what they do so well. A real treat as always.

Visited for a meal for the 2nd time and was severely disappointed which is such a shame as this restaurant is in my local village and had we had a great meal it would be one of our regulars. My partner ordered Highland chicken served on a bed of black pudding, with seasonal vegetables, mashed potato and a whiskey jus. I asked if instead of mashed potato could he get chips she said no problem. The meal arrived with what looked like chicken covered in gravy with no black pudding?? I rechecked the menu and pointed out to the waitress that I thought I had been given the wrong meal as it didn't look like what I had ordered there was no black pudding on my plate. She then informs me that the black pudding is mixed in the mashed potato so that's why I had none, she never stated I would be losing this when I ordered chips and one of the main reasons I was ordering this dish was for the black pudding. On the menu it does not state black pudding mash, it says chicken on a bed of blackpudding, served with mashed potato, veg etc. The jus just tasted like gravy. Due to this my husband was put off as it was not what he had ordered or expected to get so barely touched his meal and just shared one of my fajitas. I explained to the girl the situation and all I got was a sorry. Never received a discount of my bill for a meal that wasn't even touched so a complete waste of nearly £10. Not even an apology from the chef nothing. Will not be back due to this as would not want to be disappointed again and waste my money for a meal my partner couldn't eat.

Our party of 34 prebooked the back room of The Wee Train on a Sunday for 5:30. The fstaff were happy to offer us the Fri/Sat menu which is 2 courses for £12 or 3 courses for £15 however the menu was very limited with only 3 choices of starter, main and dessert with no vegetarian main dish. The waitress asked my wife if she'd like the chef to make her mushroom strogganoff which she was happy to have but there should be a couple of vegetarian options to prevent thus awkwardness. The order wasn't taken until 30 minutes after our party arrived and it took another 40 minutes for the first course to be served. It was obvious at this point that staff were not used to dealing with larger parties or were completely Ill prepared. To make matters worse the children (who were very well behaved) were last to get their meals!!! Some adults had even finished before the kids had their meals served. For future reference the staff need to serve the kids meals first- they take longer to eat and their mood changes when their hungry. 2 members of the party weren't offered chips or potatoes and it wasn't until 1/2 way through their meal they realised - thus was raised with the staff and a waitress was quick to blame another staff member who we didn't see again after she took our order. The waitress came back and told the 2 members of the party that the chef was preparing 2-3 bowls of mashed potato WHICH DIDNT APPEAR!!! 10 minutes later she came back and apologised and offered them both 50% off their bill. At this point those who had a starter and main course were wanting to leave and those who had planned on having a dessert were wanting to leave too but as there was no option to just pay for one meal I was damned if I was paying for a 2 course meal so we ordered desert. I ordered cheesecake which was massive (trying to over compensate maybe) and brick hard - I couldn't get my fork through the base. There were other complaints from other guests too. Overall the service was inadequate, and very worrying as their taking Xmas dinner bookings. I heard they won an award recently but this was definitely not an award winning experience. No top was left from anyone as we were all disappointed.

Small, friendly little pub on the A71, in a town called Galston. Once there was a train station here, as photographs on the wall depict. Nothing fancy on the menu, but good honest pub food and the atmosphere of a 'local' pub. We were travelling from Glasgow to Girvan on the M77, and there's not many places to stop for lunch, so we made a detour to Galston. My Chilli Con Carne was excellent. This provided a welcome break, a chance to stretch the legs. The walls are adorned with paintings of Highland Cows and cartoon sketches of local blokes. The staff were friendly. I'm glad such places still exist, many pubs have closed in this part of Scotland.

Been here a few times, it’s always had long waiting times but the place is a shambles. About 8 members of staff and no structure, they all do a bit of everything but don’t actually finish anything. Lack of control or structure leads to delays. Arrived and no order taken after the 20 p mins. Table next to us even said they’re before us. We then get one drink but had to ask for my coffee twice. The lady apologies, starts making it and wanders off again. Food comes, baked potato dry and table next to us said the same. We had to ask two seperate waitresses for condiments. Sat waiting to eat our meal. Table next to us get theirs and the waitress drops half their chips on the table and walks off. No replacement or apology. Then go to pay and stand with again no apology for the wait whilst 3 of them around the till. Showing a girl how to use it but 3 of you! Will not be back!!?
