We just got back from London for the Queen's Jubilee. Four friends and myself stayed here. The rooms were very clean, the beds were very comfortable. The restaurant was getting a makeover so it wasn't opened, but complimentary coffee, tea, juice, and pasteries were available in the morning. Our best part of staying here was the staff. Ilona, Irina, and Marta were so accomodating, pleasant, and as the days going on felt more like FAMILY to us. The tophams hotel is very very lucky to have employees like this. They really care about their guests. So greatful to have met such lovely people.

A postponed trip due to covid and now here we are. The hotel appears refurbished during the shut down and is very clean and tidy. Presently the kitchen is not finished so no cooked breakfast but complimentary pastries and tea and coffee are available. The rooms are not the largest but they are very nice and the bathrooms are large. Our stay has been peaceful and the room warm and quiet. The location is central and handy for London sight seeing. The staff are excellent helpful and friendly. We would come back.

This was supposed to be a trip of a life time which it was until I stayed here!!! This was a gift by family & friends that started a Gofundme because my cancer had come back a fifth time! I was put on the ground floor in a room that was so disgusting I wouldn’t put my worst enemy in there! It was beyond musty, moldy smelling including coming from the carpets, a big water mark or mold spot underneath the wallpaper over my side of the bed that I had to sleep with something over my face to block the smell!!! Bathroom door wouldn’t close & had trouble getting the TV to work extremely runned down! We had a guest visit our room & he couldn’t believe they were putting people in this room! Finally by the second night we couldn’t take it anymore we complained at the front desk with an other couple complaining! They weren’t very happy with us that we wanted to be put in another room!!! They finely did put us in one of the new renovated rooms but we had to keep our curtains shut since there were workers were outside our windows plus the bar & breakfast lounge were closed as well. Wish the hotel & travel agent notified us because we would have stayed somewhere else! The room was 100% better but was too late for us since we were leaving the next day! Wish we got our money back for the two horrible nights we had to spent in that first room!!!

I didn't look at the reviews for this 4* hotel until we were about to arrive there. I had booked a family room. I asked the receptionist if we could see the room before we paid, which was granted . Really not happy with the room . It had the shabby without the chic . Really worn headboard, cracked tiles on the bathroom floor, dirty carpet, and one of the wardrobe doors were missing . Paint chipping off the walls. We decided that this wasn't for us . we went back down to reception and told them that we would no be staying the hotel ( we had already been told that the bar was closed and breakfast was served at a hotel down the road ) We spoke to the manager who was lovely ( as were the rest of staff) and she told us that there would not be any charge for cancellation . I would just like to say if the renovations on the outside AND the inside were completed I think this would be an amazing Hotel .

For those of a certain age the Phrase “Miss Jones” could probably sum up my feelings for the Topham hotel, for those youngsters try google. Above the bed is a canvass I can only title “Damp under wallpaper” which to be fair is a step up from the lack of paint or paper around the door frame, a tricky place to decorate I grant you. Boutique appears to be a code word for shabby and not in the chic meaning of the word. Broken handle in the shower obviously snapped off by the last occupant trying to get out before the shower burnt of much of the top layer of skin, the shower is a Russian roulette of hyperthermia and third degree burns. As for the carpet, I have seen less bald spots on Boris Johnsons head, I cannot stress enough the utter shambles of this place, the only good point of this hotel is the staff, very helpful but I’m sure they have heard these points before.

Stayed here for 2 nights for the royal garden party. Lovely homely atmosphere and a great location. Just wanted something cheap and cheerful and this fit the bill. Undergoing a major refurbishment program and we were lucky ³enough to have 1 of the updated rooms. Only things to let it down were a sparse continental breakfast and no evening meal. Bar was also closed during week, although we were allowed to take our own wine in and they supplied the glasses. plenty of eateries close by, and handy for Victoria stations, theatre,Buckingham Palace and underground.very friendly owner and staff. I would definitely stay again if in London.

I enjoyed my stay at Topham's Hotel very much. It's one of those small establishments that are scattered all over the city. The hotel is located in a quiet London street, not a well known brand, not fancy, but perfectly adequate for a traveller's needs. The location is just a few minutes walk from Victoria rail station. The area of Belgravia is quiet whilst also having some pleasant restaurants and bars. My room was very clean, the bed was comfortable and I was delighted to find a full sized bath which was very welcome after a hard day walking around the city. Breakfast was as described with a good selection of fruit salad, yoghurt, cereal, pastries, cold meats, cheese and toast. Service was excellent and the dining room was immaculately clean. There is no restaurant or bar in the hotel - it's not that kind of place - there are many eating options around Victoria so this is not a problem. The only negative issue was the fact that the blind in the bedroom did not operate correctly so I couldn't wind it up in the morning. A slightly annoying issue that a handyman could probably fix quite quickly. I would definitely return to this hotel and would recommend it to others. I am giving four stars rather than five simply because of the problem with the window blind.

Firstly, the room was too warm, asked for temperature control to be reduced, nothing was done. Remained at 17* for full stay and nothing less with 2 people to check on it over 2 day period, with windows open still too warm. The hinges on wardrobe door were broken, chipped paint on tables, chairs and walls. Windows full of dust when trying to open for circulation. Bed spread was full of stains when using instead of duvet due to warm heat in room When asked was twin room available told no, when I website was still available. Temperature of the water in bathroom taps were all hot, no cold temperature available. Asked to change to twin room, told none available although online bookings still available for that two night stay. If you want to book for budget stay with no quality do, otherwise do not stay here. Health risk

I am absolutely disgusted with this hotel (Tophams London) and Booking.com customer service. I arrived in London for a business meeting to what Booking.com advertised as a 4 star hotel on the 9th October 2018. Checkin was OK however the hotel appeared to be very run down. When I went to my first room and looked at the bed it was disgusting..... Blood stained and sweat stained sheets and filthy dirty with liquid stains all over the headboard. Second room was even worse with the mattress absolutely disgusting, shower roof tiles missing and dirty floor. Third room was worse still with a work out headboard, blood, sweat and possibly looks like food stains all over the mattress, spare sheets and pillow blood and sweat stained. I called booking.com and your absolutely unhelpful operator told me London was full and the only room she could give me was over £1000 and I would have to pay myself and try to claim back. Hotel offered me a move to sister hotel but told me room had a shared bathroom and was a 15 min car journey away from where I was.......absolute madness. I even used my shirt as a pillow slip to try and separate me from the dirty bedding. I will never ever use booking.com again as a result, neither will my friends, family or our businesses. Terrible disgusting and despicable service and this hotel is a health risk. I have posted pictures as evidence. STAY WELL CLEAR.

- Disappointed by this hotel! - Cute hotel - BUT dirty. Carpets have stains all over them. Over powerful smell of perfume when you walk in the front door. - TERRIBLE SERVICE! Front desk was useless and unfriendly. Never said hi or bye whenever I walked passed them. - The garbage can was still FULL from the previous guest of the room. - Our fridge didn’t work - when I told the front desk this issue her response was “WHY do you need a fridge?” - The room telephone didn’t even work. No dial tone. I had to walk down for everything I needed. - I had to ask the front desk for a blow dryer. - PROS: breakfast was free. ALL 3 hosts at the front desk stared at me when I explained all the above. They had no explanation/reason for anything. Except for when I asked for a bath mat - she said she didn’t get her delivery for the day yet. It was 4pm.

I have never been hosted in a hotel so terrible as this one. On arrival they informed me that I should give 50 pounds as a damage deposit for possible damage in the room and that they would return me at check out if it was not used, however they did not give me any receipts. when I went to check out I had to charge the value, because the attendant "accidentally" forgot. The room they put me was pretty tight and smelled musty. The bathroom was very poorly maintained, with cracks in the walls and the shower water alternating between cold and warm. The breakfast had few options and what was served did not seem to be fresh. The only good thing about this hotel is its location, but it definitely does not make up for the lousy service. I do not recommend this dump even for my enemies!

We paid $300 a night to stay here in the heart of London, so we weren't expecting much, but this hotel is atrocious. The mattress needed to be replaced DECADES ago - they were saggy and had springs poking through the material. The rooms were tiny, everything was dirty, the floors were warped, the air conditioning didnt work, and the shower was broken. The only pluses are the breakfast and the location, and it's over priced even for the location.

Originally booked in to the Eaton Square Hotel, but my wife didn't like the place so we took a room at the Tophams (where you have to check in for Eaton Square). The room was clean, twin bedded, with the very normal overcharged mini bar, but also a nice case including tea, coffee and some biscuits. A slightly sureal bathroom which was down a level but attached to the same room. Very good shower and very clean bathroom. Bedroom TV did not have a good reception, and seemed to have mainly Spanish instructions, but the TV could take DVD's so would play any films you bought along. I found the beds a little firmer than I would prefer. The lady on reception was extremely helpful and pleasant, with the same going for the staff in the breakfast room, who were able to supply good coffee (rather than filtered) and scrambled eggs on request, with no extra charge. Not an expensive hotel, but if I could have room 101 again, I would stay any time.

The first room they showed me was a basement room which I declined. I was concerned about security, given that there were stairs leading down from the outside pavement and that meant locking the windows at night, and I wasn't sure they locked. The bathroom was not clean. The next room was 403 in the attic and was clean and perfectly ok. There are steep narrow staircases to walk up with your luggage, as the lift remains out of order. The room was definitely in need of an upgrade but it wasn't half as bad as I was expecting. They do require £25 for 'incidentals' when you check in, ie the minibar, but on check out they simply ask if you've had anything and then return your money (cash in my case). Reception staff member was lovely. I didn't have breakfast. Be assertive about changing rooms if the first one they give you is not clean.

I am not one to write reviews but after visiting Tophams Hotel for a bottomless brunch with a friend I felt it was necessary to warn others to stay away. We booked the deal for bottomless brunch on Wowcher, whilst we were no expecing a 5* dining experience, photos on the website looked nice and we read some positive reviews. The deal cost £20.00 each and was said to be woth £35.00 each.We arrived at the hotel and were guided to a shabby back room (with only one other group of guests in it for a saturday this was very quiet). The chairs were grubby and peeling and the whole hotel looked very outdated. However, not to judge a book by its cover we proceeded to order, we both went for the eggs Royal, followd by the 'freshly made pancakes' for desert. The prosecco arrived quickly and the waitress, despite speaking extremeley quietly and minimal english was pleasant. However, it was downhill from there. The 'eggs royal' arrived - I cannot express our shock and confusion. As regular brunch goers we were shocked by the 'muffin' described in the menu which was actually nothing more than a cheap bbq bread rolll! They didn't even try to disguise this by toasting it! The eggs themselves were scrambled - not poached as described on the menu and as you would expect with eggs royale and the 'side salad' was ONE piece of cucumber. We didn't know whether to laugh or cry.We called the waitress over - however she was no where to be seen, I even got up and poaked my head around the kitchen to try and see a Chef. There was not one and i was greeted with the sight of a tiny kitchen with a toaster and Asda roll packs! No surprises there. Eventually the waitress appeared, we questioned why we had break rolls and not muffins and showed her a photo of a traditional 'eggs royale' with poached eggs and hollandaise sauce. She nodded as if to say she understood and took our plates away. She came back half an hour with their second attempt at 'eggs royale'. This time we had the same bread rolls, now toasted, with poached eggs and smothered in ketchup. UNBELIEVABLE! We tried to communicate that this was still incorrect but aventually gave up both picking at the food but unable to eat it.We waited relentlessy for our pancakes. No surprises the pancake arrived with no toppings and was a singular shop brought pancake from a pack. We left the restaurant in horror. The images really do speak for themselves. AVOID, AVOID, AVOIDand Wowher should be ashamed of themselves for selling a deal at such a terrible place which has obviously not been tried and tested by their staff

Booked a nights stay at the Tophams Hotel, before looking at Trip Advisor. Then was a little worried after reading some of the reviews when we did, however whilst there is evidence of wear and tear to some areas of the hotel decor this did not impact on our stay. The hotel was very clean throughout, the staff really friendly and the included breakfast was more than adequate. The size of our room was fine, although it may have been a little cramped if you were travelling with a lot of baggage. Overall we were very impressed with the Tophams Hotel and feel that some of the reviews are a bit over harsh, but then everybody is entitled to their own opinion. We would definitely go back again.

Great location for this hotel I could see from the price list on the front desk that prices ranged from 275 to 475 - if I had paid that I would be devastated I had a deal for £99 B^B so it was good for what we had. This hotel is not 4 stars and needs re-ratingWould only stay here again if it was cheap!

I called concierge but the lady had very bad command of The English language. The hotel does not care about the rooms, because they are in a very good location and safe area in london.I am sure they don't get repeat customers.Would never recommend it to any one.I was lucky i paid 105 pounds, instead of the crazy price of 250 pounds plus.A lot of better quality hotels and bed and breakfasts hotels in the local area.

This is by far the worst hotel room I have stayed in . I have been reading the previous reviews and I only wish I had read them earlier ! 175 for a night and the room is shabby and dirty. On arrival the entrance is lovely and the staff are welcoming but after check-in you soon realise the hotel has been left to die by the owner. I asked to be moved to a different room but they were fully booked (I am still trying to work out how) hotel room to one side we went to join breakfast at 10am and with military precision was asked white or brown and tea or coffee, even after asking for my toast with breakfast it arrived about 20 mins before, no butter, no milk for our tea and coffee. We had been out in town for a few drinks the night before and I was in need of a good Bloody Mary to sort me out and asked the waitress for one, she said yes and walked off, 10 minutes later I saw her clearing tables(not ours) and asked again for a Bloody Mary and she replied yes ! . Another ten minutes later another waitress came over and said "did you ask my colleague something ?" I said yes I would like a Bloody Mary please (24hr bar and the most classic hair of the dog ever invented) ....no we don't do that she replied. After an hour and speaking with the very friendly receptionist no joy. Oh and the breakfast was bad. We were counting our lucky stars as others seemed to have it worse. The man on the desk was apologetic and friendly but no chance I will be going there again. Avoid

For a business trip me and 4 others booked this hotel because of the location. Upon arrival we were told that our reservation came in too late and we were transferred to another hotel. We were promised 4 star hotel and suites for all of us. Transfers for this hotel is a normal business I read in the reviews every time with a different excuse. 4 of us got a suite indeed only I got the broom closet. The other hotel was the Colonnade (not recommended either). Never again!!!

We stayed in Tophams Hotel for 4 nights this week and although a great location right round corner from Victoria Train Station and underground the hotel itself is not worth the 4 star rating. The outside of the building is lovely and the quaint entrance is welcoming with a lovely scent of candles. That's it! The rest of the hotel including the small restaurant are shabby and in dire need of repair. The building is 2 town houses put together with narrow staircases and lots of small corridors and rooms with a small bar in one. There was never anyone there to serve a drink as the waiter serving breakfast was the concierge, bar man, cleaner and handyman all rolled into one! The bedrooms are in desperate need of upgrading. We had 2 across from one another. The beds have old mattresses which need replaced and the furniture is old and the carpets are filthy and the walls need repainted. The bathroom was spacious however and quite modern only a few broken items in here caused concern. The restaurant needs a refurb and the continental breakfast is very limited. I would recommend giving this a miss if you like fresh and clean!

We had afternoon tea at The Tophams Hotel today. I'd bought a Groupon voucher on a whim, and after reading the reviews we weren't expecting much. We were very pleasantly surprised. We were welcomed by friendly, smiling staff and served a glass of chilled prossecco in a bright, sunny dining room. The sandwiches were fresh and tasty, the scones melted in the mouth and the cakes were bite size and delicious. There was a choice of teas, we settled on a regular English breakfast blend. My only criticism would be the plastic pots of jam; a little dish of good jam for each person would be a nice touch.I wouldn't pay the advertised £32 each but, at a more sensible price, would be happy to return.

This is not an advisable place for quality afternoon tea and would highly recommend adjusting your expectations.A friend had booked us a table for afternoon tea through Groupon, and at this point I would like to clarify that I am unaware if the fact that it was a Groupon purchase affected the quality or not.Firstly, the quality of the aesthetics was extremely poor. The surface of the table had a large piece of chipped wood missing and the 'leather' seats were peeling and looked like they had been for quite some time. Tea was very standard Twinings teabags, no refill and as it was dead customer wise, there was also no member of staff that lingered for more than a minute to ask anything from. Finger sandwiches were just shop bought white bread, margarine NOT butter and very basic very sparse and unpleasant. All desserts seemed shop bought, they came in little wrappers and were overly sweet. The scones were massive, tasted of vanilla and had so much icing sugar on the top I had to tip it off and inadvertently created a mound of sugar on my plate.Of the staff that made themselves present, they were very polite and friendly, it's just a shame we didn't see much of them. All in all, for a groupon price of £24 for two people, it wasn't horrendous. But if you had to pay their original price of £62 for two people, then it is a travesty. You are better off heading to Patisserie Valerie for an afternoon for less than £30 per head and a higher standard by a long shot.

Me and my boyfriend have visited this hotel today, we grabbed a £19 deal on Groupon thought it would be nice for a day out. The hotel was located in a very nice neighbourhood of belgravia so I find it quite interesting for such a small and casual hotel to locate here. As soon we arrived the receptionist didn't notice us but was chatting to one of her colleagues, so we wait about half a minute until we have been served and guided into the tearoom/ restaurant. The restaurant was very small but bright, nothing fancy but just comfortable enough to make your self at home, it wasn't very awkward when we first enter even though my first impression thought I would be, there were no music, just because there were few ladies chatting. The waitress was very friendly and offered us prosecco first then I chose earl Grey tea, and my boyfriend chose raspberry, i asked for milk for my tea but the waitress didn't understand me until i repeat five times that i would like some milk with my tea. After a while the food has been served but it was surprisingly a very small proportion of food. The sandwiches was okay, but the sweet finger food tastes like Tesco cakes after reheat, my favourite part of the tea was the fresh macaroon, it's green but vanilla flavour, the scone broke apart when I cut it, the strawberry jam was the cheapest quality of all jams... And the quality over all were about supermarkets level. My boyfriend is quite experienced with wine and spirits and he said the cheap prosecco contained too much chemical (he said probably from Tesco saver selection) which made him felt a little sick (and it stayed with him for the next two hours...) he don't really drink cheap alcohol or alcohol over all but quite good at noticing the quality, even though I didn't notice anything. The bathroom was shared between staff and male and female, right next to a staircase into a very dark basement, wasn't sure if it was meant for staff or hotel bedrooms... it was a little bit creepy.Overall, I wouldn't come back to this hotel, either food nor accommodation, it didn't worth the money and all I felt I paid for was just the service and the tea.

My friend and I went yesterday for cream tea at this hotel. It was bought as a present for me which was just aswell as I wouldn't have paid for it. Although the room was nice and bright, the chairs were very scruffy with the material peeling off them.We arrived at our alloted time and after the initial cup of tea, we then sat and waited for half hour for our sandwiches and cakes to arrive. I chose a Latte which was only half a cup and very strong. When I asked for some hot milk I was given cold. So a yummy luke warm coffee. The sandwiches were the most unappetising array I've ever seen. They were dry and slightly stale, the unappetising fillings being, plastic ham, grated cheese and mustard, cream cheese and soggy cucumber and funny colour egg. The cakes were dry chocolate brownie, revolting sponge muffin thing and the most delicious warm scone. It tasted like it had just come out of the oven. But was then spoiled by jam so runny, it was more a couli and it just ran off the scones. The champagne was ok, at least it was wet and fizzy!! Not an experience to be repeated sadly as there are many lovely places offering excellent afternoon teas for the same price.

We visited Tophams after we bought a voucher on groupon. I'm not sure whether having voucher devalued our custom at the hotel. But after arriving into the restaurant, what I could only describe as a cafe/restaurant that you would see in a hostel- shabby falling apart chairs and squashed in tables. We felt very disheartened from the start, we would of expected fresh tea options and not to ask for our own sugar and milk. Once the waitress came out with our food we were quite disappointed with what we received. A small selection of sandwiches, very very stale bread, plastic cheese with basic ham, egg and cream cheese and cucumber - the sandwiches were probably best part of the tea! All cakes were stale, the scone fell apart in my hand when I cut it in half, the jam was runny and brown and something that I was never going to try! The waitresses never returned and asked if they could offer us anymore tea or drinks or whether we were happy. After seeing the toilet I dread to think what the kitchen was like, and on that note we don't think we will be visiting Tophams again and certainly will not be using groupon after such a bad experience. Don't waste your money - go to Starbucks on the corner instead, for £26 you can come out with change and a decent cuppa and cake!

We arrived at Tophams at 5.00pm and we were the only people in the restaurant. The seating is shabby, certainly not 4* standard. Our waitress was pleasant and we were given a glass of prosecco immediately. When our afternoon tea arrived we were shocked into total hysterics. I have never seen an AT quite like it! Doorstep sandwiches, and Iceland/Tesco miniature cakes, (the frozen ones that you get as party food). Two tiny scones and jam in a foil packet. To top it all there was a really bad argument going on at the reception area with a customer complaining about paying 4* prices for a 2* hotel!! This argument went on for most of the time we were eating. Wonderful!!! Our waitress disappeared and I asked the receptionist as she was walking through if we could have more scones, she then came back and said there were no more scones!! WHAT!! Our waitress then reappeared and we asked her and she said of course!! I could have complained but we thought that the young receptionist was having enough of a bad day with the still disgruntled customer. All I can say is this whole experience made us laugh, but it was not good and thank heavens we had a deal, but still £24 for this is just unacceptable. We didn't feel that we could complain at the time as they were just young girls who were totally out of there depth. Please don't go there!!

A small group of us were over visiting a friend and decided to give here a try for afternoon tea. We were greeted by two very unpleasant receptionists, who were too busy with their conversation to do anything other than point in the correct direction. The waiter pointed to a table and gave no description of what we were getting, didn't ask if we had any dietary requirements or allergies and just walked off into the kitchen. When he brought out the food we were completely shocked at firstly how little there was and then at the quality. We were given a few small sandwiches which had definitely been sitting out as the bread was stale. Some shop bought buns that had been cut in half and were also stale and two small scones. We also had to ask for our glass of prosecco which we had paid for. And guessing by the looks from the staff it also apparently a large inconvenience that we asked where the toilets were. DO NOT waste your money here, we thought we were getting a good deal but we were just ripped off. Spend the extra money.

I had booked an afternoon tea voucher through TimeOut. Despite the negative reviews I had read about this place, I decided to give it a try for afternoon tea. When we entered the building we were welcomed by a not-so-nice receptionist who indicated us the room we had to go for our afternoon tea. We found an empty dinner room where a waiter welcomed us. There was no music nor particular atmosphere so we felt quite ill at ease. The waiter asked us what we wanted to drink and brought very quickly the food (which I suspect was sitting there for a while)The sandwiches did not look fresh (dry bread), there were only 2 scones & a few small cakes. The tea we received was very basic Twinings earl grey bag. Even at Tesco you can find a nicer selection of food & tea - so I don't recommend it. The only good thing about this place is actually the neighbourhood - we had a nice walk in the lovely streets of Chelsea. Some people might argue that "it's a Timeout deal, don't expect the world" but I don't see the point of a small hotel making promotion of its place (using TimeOut voucher) if it's to leave such a bad impression. For the same price, you can enjoy nicer experience in other hotels in London!
