The Swan at Walton in South Derbyshire

We were visiting family in hugglescote and they had been here before. It certainly was a very picturesque drive to the restaurant/ pub. This definitely a nice gastro pub and the food was excellent. Right from the start the welcome was great, we were taken to our table and everything was explained, we were told our servers name which I found a very welcoming and friendly. The place is very busy and spread over two floors. You can even try and book tables in one of the many named rooms in the venue. I would highly recommend that you book online. The menu was very interesting and very wide choices. I can say there are very interesting innovative dishes. The pizzas are generous and if you’re hungry I would recommend them. We weren’t very hungry so we had a mixture of burgers and bao buns. Everything we ordered was very tasty and nice. Bradley was a great and attentive host, I felt he was very busy and trying to serve a lot of people. The bathrooms are very clean, and the same goes for the venue. There is plenty of on-site car parking.

Service was fast, staff were lovely (especially Kyle) and so accommodating. They had technical issues but you would never know because of how well the staff looked after us. 10/10 experience.

I have Been to the Swan with my partner a few times now.....cracking,welcoming atmosphere, lovely food, some nice guest beers too.....the staff are very polite and attentive....I'd recommend to anyone looking for somewhere nice to have a decent feed with lots of choice and a nice drink in relaxed surroundings.

We’re regular customers to this restaurant and others in the company. We were extremely disappointed on our last visit 2 weeks ago. We ordered battered chicken from the kids menu for our toddler, when our food came out the waitress explained that there was a problem with the kids chicken and there would be a delay, which wasn’t a problem. About 5 minutes later it came out and upon my wife cutting it up for our 2 year old, found it to be raw inside! The waitress and a manager were apologetic and explained that it had been checked for temperature (which means the chef doing so either didn’t, or didn’t know how to do so). It took a further 20 minutes for a replacement, by which time our toddler wasn’t interested. I was not satisfied that if we were to visit again, that it wouldn’t happen again. Very disappointing as we’ve been customers with the company for many years.

Matty and his team were great, welcoming, efficient, friendly. There was a tiny issue with the pizza but they kept us informed and Communication was first class, we didn't think it was an issue and were perfectly happy but they gave us a discount without hesitation and round of drinks free as in their eyes things were not perfect. It was perfect !! and we won't hesitate to go back. Lovely atmosphere, we have been going for years and will continue to do so. Had a great evening.

Absolutely wonderful place, so pretty and cosy inside with twinkly lights and faux fur. The food is gorgeous, arrived, quickly, portion sizes are great, and prices on point. Kids portions superb too. Olivia looked after us and she was so welcoming and friendly and really looked after us. All the team were so professional and courteous. I honestly can't say enough positive stuff about this AWESOME place. They even gave us some chocolate eggs (with it having just been Easter)!! What a kind and thoughtful touch. I feel like we're wanted there, that they care. We will be returning soon!!!!

Disappointed to find no starters are gluten free. Even more shocked to discover that of 19 main courses only 2 plus steak are Gluten free.. Even more shocked to discover zero gluten free deserts. My main course was served cold but to be fair after I sent it back it was removed from the bill. Chips were awful. Soggy, luke warm and like cardboard. Truly awful experience. One of the worse dining experiences in recent memory.

My family and I went for a sunday lunch at the Swan this Sunday. The food was really lovely, as was the service - our server Catherine was great. Would highly recommend for a Sunday and generally.

This is a lovely place to eat. We have been going here for many years. It's part of the same group that runs the Bull's head in Repton. High-quality food and exemplary service. There is plenty of space around the tables and a pleasant atmosphere. There are toilets upstairs and downstairs, and a large seating area outside which is well used in the summer months. There is a set of stairs up to the split level car park, but you can get access via the driveway.

Booked for lunch for my partners birthday. The pub itself is extremely cosy and has a lovely atmosphere inside. The staff were polite, welcoming and the service was great. The food portions are big and delicious for the price, the food was also brought out quite quickly. The staff asked if we were celebrating and we told them it was for my partners birthday, to which when we ordered our dessert they bought it out on a happy birthday slate which was a very thoughtful touch. Will definitely return!

Fabulous food, the best I've had in many years. I had the Thai chicken, it was amazing. My husband had the sweet chilli chicken and he said his was amazing too. I tasted his chips, they were awesome.

As a party of 9 we travelled an hour for lunch for my sisters birthday, on arrival we showed our booking confirmation to be told they had double booked us and had no over availability! We were told to stand in the bar and have a drink instead! No apology, nothing! We went over to ask if their partner restaurant had any availability which they checked and said no! We normally love coming to the Swan, however we will never return again! Extremely bad customer service!

Great food, fast and very attentive service and nice atmosphere. Great that you can pay contactless at the table by scanning a QR code without having to ask for the bill and wait for it.

For pub food this place is amazing. The yakatori was so delicious. Proper old rustic pub with a great atmosphere but with tasty modern food - a winning combo! They have a lot of Asian style dishes but also have pub classics like fish n chips or mushroom stroganoff.

Went last night to the swan.normally go bulls head Repton but couldn’t get in, the service was excellent nothing to much trouble. The pizza man was twirling the dough in the air. Great atmosphere great food will now use the swan (bulls head still excellent)my pic doesn’t do the food justice

I used to always rave about The Swan at Walton and The Bulls Head in Repton. They have a great vibe, super friendly staff, and the food is top-notch. But lately, they've been letting me down. Every time I've gone, there haven't been any plant-based options for their pizzas or burgers. I’ve even checked via their live chat before visiting, and they always assure me they have it in stock, but when I get there, nope, nada. Even when I order through their app, it lets me order, only to then be told they don’t have what I ordered. It’s frustrating, especially when I’m limited in food choices already. The staff are always very apologetic about it, but there seems to be some miscommunication going on. Unfortunately, until they sort this out, I don’t think I’ll be attending any time soon.

A lovely meal enjoyed with friends , service excellant,very attentative to my dietary needs being coeliac. Staff were very knowledgeable. Food was lovely and staff very friendly. Definately a 3rd visit on the cards. Such a lovely cosy place to eat.

We had a lovely waitress called Megan who was very efficient, friendly and polite. The service from everyone was great and we all left full of delicious food :) thank you! We'll be back (again)

Very nice place with an authentic atmosphere, friendly waithers. Their original pizzas take the prize. We managed to try most of them, absolutely delicious. The only thing this place lacks is the quality of other dishes who can be bland in more than one occasion.

Great place cozy feel inside with a rustic look that I loved. Welcome and service was excellent from Kyle and the team. Amazing food we went for the mushroom sandwich and the fillet fish bun which were both great value for money and so tasty. Brilliant choice of food and drink at great prices. Would highly recommend and look forward to returning soon.

Ended up here as we are unable to get across the river to go to Barton Marina and we are so glad we did. The restaurant was very busy. However they were able to fit us in for lunch for four of us. The staff were incredibly polite and welcoming and the service was excellent. The choice of food is very extensive two of us, having the pizzas which were extremely large and very good value for money. The other meals were also generous portion sizes and very reasonably priced. The restaurant had a really good vibe with lots of families and some larger groups celebrating birthdays. It was lovely to see a country pub being so busy. There is plenty of parking and additional space further behind the pub. We were seated under a speaker which was a bit loud for the base. However, the waiter was able to turn off that speaker upon request and this did not affect the ambience of the whole restaurant. The restaurant is quite forward in its technology and has a QR code to scan so that you can pay the bill online without having to wait for the server and you can split the bill etc which is good providing you are up-to-date with technology. Alternatively they will take your payment and then all the way if needed. Overall a very nice stop for lunch with a great choice of food and excellent service. Would definitely go back without question. Have even looked at their sister pubs to see if there’s any more locally we can try.

We've been here many times, always good food and atmosphere but the booking system let's it down for me. Tried to book a table for 9 adults and a high chair,not possible at weekends or special occasions. No person to speak to, left email details but never got a response. Maximum party size is 8 so be aware if you have a larger group. Really disappointed as it was for a 21st birthday and that was the venue they wanted. On the plus side, we booked elsewhere and discovered a new favourite!

We chose The Swan for a birthday dinner and cocktails last night, drawn in by positive reviews and the establishment's style. Charlotte, our excellent and friendly hostess, enhanced our experience. Unfortunately, the limited vegan options—just a burger and an unavailable pizza—were disappointing. Despite Charlotte's great service, I believe the restaurant should expand its vegan offerings if they are going to promote that they have vegan options available. Additionally, suggesting that the cocktail menu specifies vegan options or ones that can be modified (e.g., removing egg white) would be beneficial. Thankfully, Charlotte checked with the bar staff to ensure our cocktails were suitable. It's disappointing as we've recently moved nearby and were hoping for a better experience because both my fiancée and I enjoy a meal out and we had high hopes for The Swan. I’m sure we will be back I just hope that they expand their range of vegan options.

Big menu, big- ridiculously big - portions! High in carbs. High in fat. Low nutritional quality If you like gut busting, heart attack on a plate, type of food this is for you. If , like me, you like lots of fresh vegetables , nutritious and delicious healthy foods, forget it. Service excellent.

Absolutely fabulous place!! Food divine, great value for money, staff so lovely welcoming, atmosphere lovely, decor awesome. Me and my 8 year old daughter had the best time!!! Highly recommend!!

We've been working our way around the chilled pubs to collect all the alpacas. The Swan was next on our list. From the moment we got in we have the most wonderful waiter - Matthew. He was so enthusiastic and talkative. He went above and beyond with our service. The alpaca we received was from the Chesterfield pub. As we are collecting them we enquired about 'The Swan' one. Now this is were Matthew went above and beyond. On our journey up the stairs to our seat there was a display of Hettie (the alpaca for The Swan). We notice on leaving there was one less in the display. Matthew had sourced one out of the display for me. The most thoughtful waiter I've ever had.

All was 1st class , sad to learn it is a card only venue . Its a shame i wont be able to go again, due to these rules being enforced.

Very disappointed, we have been a few time's was good..but this time was the last. Wrong food delivered, the lager has funny smell and not creamy head. .I sent mine back and Just ordered side geek salad so I wasn't Just sat with nothing whilst hubby was trying to finish his Very salty fish and chips. .salad was very different to the first we had..not consistent enough..far to much salt in food really need to check before sending out..and that's it's the right plate ordered.

It was nice, but the menu is very limited if you're looking for "free from" options, e.g. my wife is coeliac, so needs gluten free, and i myself have legume allergy, so need to know exclude all legumes

Had a lovely meal here with my partner. We were sat efficiently and our server Bradley was lovely. He was honest, full of banter and looked after us really well. Can’t wait to come back again.

A very impressive country pub. Huge, tasty wood fired pizzas straight from the oven - more than you can eat. Great service. Tasty, imaginative range of food...something for everyone. Nice atmosphere. Plenty of parking. Recommended - excellent.

Little bit disappointed today, pub is really well laid out and the staff are attentive and hard working but we booked a birthday table.for 6 over a week ago and turned up on time to be told table wouldn't be ready for 15 minutes. So was left standing around in a cramped bar getting in the way of other guests and staff. The food is normally of good quality here but my main was burnt and tasted like charcoal. Others were ol but will stock with pizza in future as they know how to cook these. Staff were friendly though and tried there best. I think they are just too busy and success has meany the food is a little rushed.

We visited for my Dad's 70th birthday. The welcome was warm Ndy the food was lovely. The staff were great with my daughter too.

Free Birthday ice cream which wasn’t even requested which was a nice touch so thank you for that My only minor, minor criticism was I think the QR code on table method of settling the bill causes more issues than it is meant to solve - But other than that a great meal out :)

Keep away from the Xmas pudding and the horrible custard. Was sick as a dog for 2 days after that.

Food is always amazing, plenty of a choice of ales , beers and wines. Brilliant cozy atmosphere and the staff are always friendly. Have a meet up with friends every few months and it's always a great night. Would definitely recommend

Food is amazing but staff go above and beyond. Special thank you to Bradley for challenging my 4 year old to eat the massive pizza. Once she completed her challenge with help from big bro, Bradley brought them ice creams as a reward! Our server Masey was also attentive to all of us and helped with any issues or queries. Wonderful family dining experience!

Sister pub to the bulls head repton. Gastro type food, fairly expensive but it's all fresh cooked & extremely tasty. (You get what you pay for) 🙂 Massive range of good quality drinks too.

If you want somewhere cozy and warm with a great atmosphere, look no further! Beautiful, historic, old fashioned pub with a great, reasonably priced menu. Lovely, helpful staff. Even more beautiful now that the Christmas decorations are up!

My second visit here. Great food and brilliant servers. Booking pretty much essential, as it's usually busy, even mid-day mid-week. Good selection of food, including a wide range of pizza, which are large in size. I recommend the steak sandwich and the cajun chicken burger. Great chips ❤

Main course, spicy, no other flavours. Desert, creme brulee, not fresh, texture like firm scrambled egg.

My friend brought me here for a birthday meal , and I was amazed by the decor , location and have never seen such a great selection of food that is actually made to a high standard. The atmosphere is great. The food is out of this world. I will be travelling 40 miles to come here time and time again now. Our server Matt went above and beyond for us and was awesome. Highly recommended.

Food was nothing special, I had the prawn and chicken yakibo noodle and it tasted funny and wasn't very hot, the wife had the beef stroganoff and she said it was the same, not very hot and the meat was tough and chewy and the gravy was very salty. When we had finished the waitress asked had we enjoyed our meal as we had left a good amount and we told her and she said she was sorry and would pass our comments on to the chef and that was that. Keeps a hood pint. Will we go back, NO.

I’ll start by saying I am a big fan of the Chilled Pub brand and have a frequent visitor to most of the pubs and never had any issues. Unfortunately that wasn’t the case today at the Swan. A couple of us ordered the homemade lemonade as this is their usual choice. Unfortunately when the drinks arrived they could only be described as murky water. Absolutely no lemon taste at all. We highlighted this to the waitress who was very apologetic and went to get fresh ones. These were slightly better, and not wanting to make a fuss we accepted them, but they were not good at all, and no where near up to the delicious drinks that we have had previously. The food when it came was great, but no sauces and the waitress who delivered them (not our server) went without asking so we had to hunt someone down. Towards the end of our meal we ordered another drink which just never came. The food was great but these small things just let the experience down for us which was such a shame.

Visited on a Thursday in November, around 2pm. Weather was wet and rainy, and the steps down from the car park had leaves on them, so I made use of the handrails on the side of the stairs to make sure I didnt slip over (poor footwear choice!) Booked a table in advance but there plenty of tables available for walk ins. Staff were friendly and attentive, and they checked twice if we had any allergies to anything. Drinks orders were taken first - I had a Cheeky Tiki cocktail and my partner had a beer. After these were brought out we had a chance to look at the menu and decide what we wanted to eat. Didn't bother with starters as the portion sizes are very generous (and that's from someone with a healthy appetite!). I ordered the smokey barbecue chicken skewer, which comes with 2 sides of my choosing (had the chunky chips and the salad), and my partner had the club sandwich (after seeing it come out to someone else). We did leave some of what we had ordered, and there was an option to take the leftovers home. We were asked if we wanted a dessert, and I ordered a cookie dough yakatori skewer - three cookie dough balls, smothered in chocolate on a wooden skewer. As the table had been booked for a birthday celebration, they also brought out a scoop of ice cream on a waffle wafer, on a slate with Happy Birthday written in strawberry sauce. This would have been the perfect dessert given that I was full from the main - the cookie dough skewer was great, but a lot richer than I was expecting! Would happily visit again, just need to remember to say yes to taking the leftovers home, and leaving a bit room for dessert!

When ordering food, we were advised that there may be a SLIGHT delay between the delivery of pizzas and other meals ordered. However, when the pizzas arrived, one of which being polite, which was very well done to burnt, and another was bearly cooked. The remaining main courses arrived some 15-20 mins after the pizzas had been fully consumed, which is unacceptable and effectively split the family meal into two sittings. My wife's choice of meal, a beef stroganoff was what can only be described as inedible, served in a sauce that had been badly and noticably burnt in the cooking process, and one that the kitchen would have been aware of and one that they should have refused to send out of the kitchen. (Utterly disgusting) When challenged the waitress to be fair returned, saying that the cost of the meal would be deducted from the bill but no appology or acknowledgement from the management. I feel the place has too many covers to maintain standards (quantity over quality), and has for us tarnished what was a birthday meal, leaving us with an unsatisfactory experience, I very much doubt we will return.

Exciting menu. Well cooked food. Very busy, even at 7pm. Tables not big enough for huge portions. Easy wifi. Great staff.

Had a great time here celebrating my brother's birthday. Special mention to Tom, who, when my toddler fell down the steps, magicked up a toy duck to help cheer her up. A little thing, but indicative of the service here.

Consistently excellent. Superb service, very attentive and welcoming wiithout being excessive. Food choice very good. Pizzas huge, full of toppings, perfectly cooked ans very reasonable. Some great dishes, somethibg for everyone. Atmosphere good. Always busy which is a good sign but make sure tou book in advance. We go multiple times a year. Our go to place for a locely meal.

First time here, only stopped for a quick pint after work, staff were lovely and the atmosphere warm and relaxing. Takeaway pizza fab. I feel bad for the staff not being able to take tips via card, poor oversight by the owners in my opinion.

We booked a meal to celebrate my big birthday, because of local flooding i was over an hour late getting there, even though it was extremely busy it was no trouble for them, staff were welcoming and friendly and the meal was excellent we will definitely be back.

It's a nice place but they have had the same menu for a long time. As a local it's needs a few different options. But it is a great place to eat and drink.

Visited on Thursday evening. Food and cocktails were really good. Service was good and friendly, just unfortunately a little slow (half hour from arriving at our reservation to being at the table and getting served) Blossom room was rather warm but we soon got used to it. Few customers around us topping up drinks with hipflasks which didn't add to the atmosphere Overall nice pub with good food, would go again

The staff were friendly and helpful, although the payment app was a little confusing if splitting the bill. The food was OK. I had the big yakitori stick, it wasn't that warm and it had too many onions with it, the fish and chips were a lot better. The drink choice was good.

I have met here for work meetings here a few times now and have to say the food is amazing, the service is impeccable and the atmosphere in there is great. I love that there are two types of kitchen. Fully recommend the Cajun burgers or a Yakatori!
