This has now changed to a pop up street food marquee on the harbour side. It was ok. Not really as advertised and incredibly expensive for the mediocrity. Shame because, according to the chap who answered the phone, the chef has a Michelin star. The team seemed stressed and overwhelmed so maybe that affected the experience.

During a lovely visit to Aberaeron we decided to have a carvery. We were very impressed with the meal. Also the lady serving the carvery was able to advise what was gluten free. She even got some fresh serving tongs when she learnt I was coeliac. That was a nice touch, 10/10.

We walked in and stood around a while until one of the busy waitresses noticed us and showed us to a table, many were empty even on Saturday night.I was keen to try the lobster - OK but not delicious. My husband was not impressed with the Hungarian goulash nor with the trifle.Quite a lot of money for an underwhelming experience.

Overpriced food of not very high quality ,to be honest we could of got just as good as quality in a harvester or beefeater for a fraction of the price. Very limited choice on the menu and no starters and not great service food was put on the table with no return to see if all was ok. Will never use again

Called in without booking for a table for 5 people on a Sunday lunchtime, we were very lucky to have got there early enough & have a table. We were quickly served and the food was delicious the beef, roastie, parsnip & cauliflower cheese & yorkshire pudding is put on plate by chef but you then help yourself to the great range of vegetables on offer. No room for dessert but highly recommend the Sunday Lunch.

We spur of the moment decided on a sit down meal rather than fish and chips on the beach, and wound up here based on their menu (impressive looking, if not a little pricey). We had to wait 5 minutes for a table (not a problem given it was a Saturday night and we didn't have a booking), but then once we did get seated the service disappeared. It appears they had 3 waitresses, one who knew what she was doing, one who was recently trained, and one who was being trained. Basically, only the one waitress was running the whole restaurant. We kept getting forgotten about, and then our food took close to 40 minutes to arrive. When it did, for the amount we spent (£25 for fish, £28 for a large mixed grill), it was disappointing. The food was nice, don't get me wrong...but it was not worth the amount we spent. It was simply average. The service when we got it was lovely, the waitress was incredibly friendly and apologetic for all of the waiting, but it got ridiculous. We had to get up and walk out to pay (having asked for our bill 10 minutes earlier). Nice ambience and setting, but over priced and understaffed.

Hubby and I decided on a date night while on holiday, leaving the teenage boys to feed themselves! We were very warmly welcomed by a fabulous waitress who was so smiley and bubbly, the restaurant was fairly quiet but the atmosphere was warm and inviting. We chose the vegetarian lasagne, crevettes, sherry trifle and apple pie and the food was delicious, served beautifully and without a doubt the best lasagne (apart from my own of course!) I have ever tasted, the whole experience was made even better by the ever so lovely waitress who really is a gem to keep.

We visited on Saturday 25th May for an evening meal after reading some reviews on here. We were booked in at 8.15 and were surprised how quiet it was for a Saturday night. We both had the 10oz fillet steaks which were beautifully cooked and accompanied with chips, mushrooms and grilled tomato. The waitresses were very attentive and we couldn't fault the service we received. My only criticism was the lack of choice of starters, only two on the menu, this was the only disappointing aspect of the lovely restaurant. If the owner would only insert a few more choices in that department it would be a perfect little place to eat.

We went to The Summer Grill one evening and both of us had the beef curry, the restaurant is clean and smart and the staff friendly. The curry was very tasty and reasonably priced, the mango chutney however was charged at £2.50 for a small amount in a dish enough for 1 person, so we paid £5.00 as we both wanted mango chutney, which is normally given as a condiment with curry. I feel it would be better for them to charge a bit more for the curry and include all that goes with it in the price, which wouldn't make you feel you have been overcharged for something. I know it was our choice to have it but I could have bought two full jars for that price. Apart from that we were totally satisfied with what we had and would return again.

Made an impromptu visit last Friday, looking for a Table for 6 at about 8.30pm. Clearly they had had a busy night but we were welcomed with open arms, a smile and a joke and quickly shepherded to a lovely inside table. The menu is a bit of meat fest for those of us who are carnivores. The mixed Grill (ordinary one as opposed to the iron man), T Bone Steak and Fillet Steaks were served to perfection. Really just as you would expect with a restaurant with the sort of reviews you find here but what was really unexpected was the quality of the vegetarian options. This is much more than just a grill and the mediterranean vegetable tart was one of the best my wife had had.

Came here as the place we originally intended to visit had closed down. Although quiet, the ambience was very pleasant with good service and a warm welcome. We chose from the Spring Dining Menu - 3 courses for only £14.99. At that price we were not expecting miracles....but we were very pleasantly surprised. Starters of Spanish tortilla and bread and olives were very good. Mains were salmon and steak. Both extremely tasty and well presented. For desert we opted for the sorbet - Damson and raspberry flavours, a perfect way to finish off the meal. The wine to accompany was also excellent - and the wine list was extensive. As an addendum to this review, we returned within the week and had another excellent meal, this time having plaice goujons instead of the salmon, superb! Cannot wait to eat here again

Visited The Summer Grill with my husband and father today after we discovered that our B&B; in a nearby town only offered continental breakfast, and the majority of the local cafes were not open on a Sunday. We had decided to visit Aberaeron anyway so they could see the sea, then we had the good luck to spot the "Open for breakfast" sign and we didn't need telling twice! We all ordered the traditional Welsh breakfast (2 rashers of bacon, sausage, fried egg, tomato, mushroom and toast), but asked for black pudding to be added too - and it was so worth it. Everything was really tasty and cooked just the way we liked it. While we were there a group of workmen also came in plus a large family group, and they were clearly busy, but they coped well.

As we live in Ceredigion we had to try the Summer Grill. We were not disappointed. The Summer Grill really did offer possibly the best food and value for good eating in Aberaeron. Its not cheap but you receive good quality produce and service, you definetly get what you pay for. The produce was really fresh and you can tell it has been carefully selected and prepared before it arrives on the table. For our mains we ordered steaks, I had a Ribeye and my wife a Sirlon both were cooked as requested and were possibly the best in the area. We had a nice evening and we will definetly go back.

I marked this as average, but it was a close one to mark it poor ! It looks very nice, and the waitress was very good, but the food was a let down, my wife had lobster....very small, with almost nothing inside the shell ! The waitress apologised and asked if my wife would like some prawns, reluctantly she did, only to be further disappointed, a handful just fried, with no dressing on some salad, very uninspiring ! my dinner monkfish scampi was ok, but again not great, we skipped desert, and reluctantly paid the bill and left...never to return ! Strangely a couple left just before us, and sounded very happy with their meal.....I cant imagine what they had. I should have known, just six people in on a quite busy area on a friday night, while some of the other places were quite full....this looked very promising, very attractive inside and out, but of course that does,nt really mean anything !! value for money would only be 1 out of 10.

This restaurant was originally called "Manuka", and under a new name we were keen to sample the new menu. Starters were nicely presented and tasty. I had the plaice fillet (or was it the monkfish?), and my partner the sea-bass, both served with new potatos and veg.(there was also choice of french-fries etc.). We finished with desserts of tiramisu and a strawberry cheesecake-like creation, both very tasty! The only down-side to our visit was poor organisation the wine cellar, which resulted in our wine not being found, but my suggested subsitute was quickly found. The staff were really good, helpful and friendly. This restaurant also does interesting & traditional breakfasts.

Being part of the review given by MJayneJ - I would want to confirm what occurred that evening and add the impact to our evening as well. Being fair and objective in this review, I ordered a sirloin steak which was cooked exactly as ordered...which would suggest an ability/skill in the kitchen to achieve this 'non exact science'!!!Whilst I accept that mistakes occur, the pedigree of a restaurant comes from how that mistake is dealt with. Being able to see the situation from the customer's point of view is essential in determining the best way to rectify the situation for all concerned. The owner/manager did not have the ability to manage the situation that evening. He has poor people skills arising from an inability to listen to customer - he perhaps needs to take some of those lessons from his staff who were the ones who understood our concerns and apologised on his behalf. An experience of feeble excuses and poor quality cooking....

I have visited this restaurant three times in as many months . The first time was in June when we went with a friend. We all ordered different steaks and although a little pricy we were all pleased with the quality of the food and the service provided - so much so my husband and I visited the following month . This time my husband's steak was not quite cooked as he had requested and when we received the bill we were overcharged for the wine. We did not complain as we thought perhaps it was a one off . We gave it a third chance last night with some friends who were visiting . This time the service was poor as was some of the food. My husband ordered a fillet steak medium cooked which they describe as no blood and slightly pink . When it arrived there was blood on the plate and the inside was raw. It was sent back and when it returned it had been seered on the outside but was still not cooked in the middle. It was sent back a third time and when it arrived it was well done . Understandably at this point my husband had lost his appetite and had no wish to eat alone as we had all finished our meals Whilst all this was going on a member of staff tried to make excuses for the chef and did not seem to grasp the fact that we wanted to enjoy our meal together and it was unacceptable that my husband was expected to eat alone . We explained to him that we should expect our food to be served at the same time and cooked the way we like it. When we had responses for his poor excuses of why there were problems cooking the steak we were told 'cooking steak is not an exact science' what does that even mean? He obviously did not have a clue what he was talking about and it was shoddy customer service. In the end we just asked for the bill and refused to pay for my husbands meal. All in all a ruined evening and we won't be going back !

If you like a trendy buzz this is not the place for you; there are hard-surfaced glitzy bars further round the pretty harbour where you'll have to scream your order in the barman's ear, whereas the Summer Grill is quietly sedate; perhaps even a touch old fashioned. But they gave us the largest, juiciest, best-value lobsters my wife and I have ever found. Perhaps that's not the most testing of dishes for a coastal restaurant to prepare, but what was most impressive was the problem-solving. They'd run out of mayonnaise (the proper stuff and it had curdled), so we asked for garlic butter. What we got was an utterly delicious wild garlic sauce, knocked up there and then by the chef out his store-cupboard. That's flair and I'd trust him with any dish. It was a new way with lobster (or new to us) but my-oh-my, it works, so order while stocks last; there won't be another garlic harvest till next spring.

The setting is very attractive with the harbour just outside although there is not a great view from the rear dining room. The decor is quite stylish with rustic tables and chairs and many tasteful objects d' art. The staff are friendly and attentive. The menu is very meat based with attractive portions of Welsh beef and lamb but at rather unattractive prices. Our group had fish, the salmon was very fresh, well prepared, beautifully presented and tasty as was the battered fish. The monkfish scampi however was rather disappointing. Only 6 small bite size portions (frozen) with 'home made' chips, I think not. At £13 plus £5 for vegetable side dishes it was a bit of a let down. The deserts were another matter. The rhubarb melba and the cheese board were both excellent but again in common with all UK restaurants there is never any bread on the table. After 45 minutes wait we did get a dish of olives.

This was our first visit to this cosy restaurant. The website and menu looked promising showing nice presentation and locally sourced food. Not a huge menu but very good choice, this is a good indication they prefer to do a few things well, i hate it when i see dozens of choices because you know they can,t keep all that choice in fresh. For starters i had scallops with chorizo and tomato, perfectly cooked, i tried my husbands large prawns again very tasty, and crispy belly of pork and whitebait also looked very good, and was reported excellent.I had spiced monkfish scampi, which had beed coated with delicate spices that enhanced not overwhelmed the delicate flavour of the fish.I had thought of sea bass, which someone else had usually you get a small fillett of sea bass, this was a whole sea bass beautifully cooked.Several people had steak, and all were cooked exactly as requested and very tender and tasty. The chips or new potatoes were served separately,The deserts were all served in individual portions, freshly made, not bought in from mass caterers like so many places. i had a very nice tarte tatin, my husband who never usually eats deserts or trifle had the rhubarb trifle, topped with passion fruit granita along with son in law and they scraped the dishes clean, and declared it tasty and excellentI visited the ladies while there, and was pleased to find nice quality, lovely smelling handwash and hand cream. Individual flannel sized sparkling white hand towels, this is a very thoughtful touch. So overall good food, nice touches they deserve to do well.

Me and mu husband visited this restaurant Saturday evening, we had 3 courses all of which were delicious. Service was excellent very friendly all staff very knowledgeable about all the dishes how and where they were sourced etc ( a lot of the meat hung on the premises ) all dishes presented beautifully, a nice relaxed atmosphere. All in all a lovely night and great food.

There was a large sign outside saying Lobster Rolls so I went in and ordered one on Browne Bread. When we went back to the house to eat it I was very disappointed, there was a lot of bread but not much lobster.

Over priced and no atmosphere. Staff where all over the place and very unorganised. Was told the chips were home made but they were frozen. Salad bar very poor too.we had a choice of four items !! Desserts are a total rip off. I would not recommend this place and will not be returning. Better off going to the chip shop over the road.

Ate here as we was drawn in by the list of seafood on the boards outside, unfortunately only a fraction of this was available. No starters on offer which I felt was a bit pretentious of the restaurant, why should they decide that for me? I had lobster which was around £30, it wasn't very big starter size really, my partner had a t-bone which was £28 which had about an inch of inedible fat around it and if I'm honest it was chewy. Home made fries were good, salad bar was good although I was offered to get it myself after my food had been delivered to the table...cold lobster was a result of this, service was good, would I return...no which is a shame because I'm local?

A friend and I went to the restaurant around 8pm and we went straight in and sat down to choose our drinks and were promptly taken to our table which was right by the window which you could see over the harbor. I had a surf 'n' turf with a rib eye steak and scallops which was cooked to perfection! I also ordered a side of chips and they were also very nice! All the staff made sure we were happy with our meal and asked us if they could get us anything else. For pudding I had the chocolate brownie with homemade milk and almond ice cream and sea salt ice cream which were both very delicious and I can highly recommend both! Really can not fault the place at all!

Really fancied a steak tonight so went to this restaurant. We hadn't pre booked but they fitted us in and the service was really good. Our waitress was very nice and friendly.I had a fabulous rib eye steak cooked just the way I like it and so tasty. My husband had the gammon steak and this too was very well cooked.Could not fault it, good food that was not overpriced and good service.Would recommend this restaurant.

Having passed through Aberaeron many times in my life ... I decided to stop and explore the town and harbour . It was such a lovely day and I thought I would look for somewhere to stay .I checked out most of the local hotels before finding The Summer Grill ...This unpretentious hostelry was an amazing find!It is in fact a restaurant with rooms . From the minute I walked through the door and was greeted by a rather dapper gentleman by the name of Bill .. to looking around and realising I had entered a classy restaurant .. I knew this was my kind of place .The feeling of being in a little bit of old fashioned style combined with the feeling of a restaurant with obvious professional overtones was great! The price for me to stay overnight with breakfast was excellent value and so I checked in. All rooms are en-suite . Mine was on the first floor with a separate access on to the street . The room , again a little old fashioned but spotlessly clean with a comfortable bed and plenty of soaps and shampoos .. bath and shower ! Such a change from the chain hotels and overpriced 'Country House' hotels. The restaurant only takes bookings for certain size parties and I dare say this could be a problem ... however I had a super round table and good view of the restaurant . The staff were local and very friendly . I chose mixed olives with fresh bread as starter .For main course I opted for a small sirloin which was cooked to perfection and a salad from the help yourself salad bar. The home made coldslaw was both different and delicious as was the green peppercorn sauce. The house red wine was excellent as you would expect in a good restaurant . I thought that the prices were fair and represented first class value when considering all ingredients are locally sourced and the steaks are hung to provide perfection. As I said I felt that the ambience of the restaurant oozed professional !!!I now know from my conversation with Bill after my superb Welsh breakfast that he and his daughter are the owners .. and Bill's daughter is the chef .. and she is an ex 'Ramsey' girl .. which is why the food is so good /tasty and special !After reading ( before I checked in ) other tripadvisor comments regarding staff .. I would like to emphasize that this is west Wales and the calibre of professional waiting staff is not to be found I'm afraid. Maybe stick to the 4/5 star establishments where the food is not as good and more expensive !Looking forward to my next visit .

A group of five of us friends visited on a midweek night. On arrival we ordered aperitifs and some olives and hummus as there were no starters- the drinks took ages to come and the bits were overpriced at £3 each for the quantity.Friendly staff but all rather amateurish. Two people had steaks which were reasonably good and three had fish- very anaemic and unappetising to look at. All served on the bone with no alternative and no plate to put all the debris!! As for the Eton Mess at £6 a school cookery class could have done better - a disgrace!! We will not be returning- the whole place needs a reality check. A great pity.

After a bit of pony trekking locally we headed to Aberaeron for a few hours of walks along the beach and a look round to grab something to eat. We arrived at The Summer Grill at 5 after looking around a few menus at other eateries in the harbour. We were quickly met and shown around the restaurant. We were the first people on for the evening so chose a window seat we could see the harbour. We started with a glass of wine for my partner and a Peroni for myself. Starters were served very quickly and we opted for olives and home made humous. Fantastic humous, as good as any I have tasted. For the main I chose the sea bass and my partner chose the half lobster. I also added a salad bowl. You were able to help yourself and it was once again, exceptional. To cut a long story short we both marvelled at the quality of the food, the service and price was more than reasonable. The sea bass is arguably the best I have tasted! If we are ever back in this area again we will be visiting and urge others too!

Very cosy warm atmosphere and friendly polite waitress. We took the offer of the salad bar and I was glad I did, some very interesting mixtures; I really enjoyed it. Food arrived promptly and was all tasty and nicely presented. Planned to go back again in our week here but unfortunately didn't get round to it, maybe next time!

My husband had icecream at £2 a scoop i think they should have used an icecream scoop not a mellon one, i had the cheese board which consisted of 6 crackers and a choice of 3 cheeses which the poor waitress could'nt cut so ended up with cheese crumbs sorry wont be visiting again.

This restaurant was like a traditional eat out place where anyone can turn up. They appear well organised and the food good quality in general. I would go back because it had a cosy feel to it, but the prices are not cheap. The staff were welcoming and were interested in getting it right. They did not sell my husbands Guiness though!

I hate having to be really critical about somewhere I have never been before, not least when the food was good. But such was my visit in early August. The service was so hopeless that I spent much of my time typing into my iPhone notes. This is what I wrote.Late lunch of 6 Oysters, fresh crab sandwiches and a crisp white wine. Technically 5 minutes past closing time but older gentleman said he could fit us in. Then. Waiting ages for serviceEventually takes our order verbally.Had to search out waitress for drinksWoman with pram speaking out and looked unhappy we were there.Older gentleman retorts that he needs to pay staff.Comes back without menuGets menu then another few minutes to come backOrdered oysters, crab sandwiches, carafe of chilled wine and carafe of tap water.20 mins waiting still no drinks or sandwiches!Carafe of rose wine became 2 glasses. Wine not chilled. Got the water but no glasses Great oysters. Great sandwiches. Really. Hadn't finished food or wine and asked for dessert choice by waitress, didn't want dessert so said they would get our bill. Oh well. Maybe this was a bad day. I don't know. The food when it eventually arrived was sublime. But to go searching three times for a waitress looking for drinks and food order was hopeless however good the food was. As was a very non private discussion about why we were being served in the first place. As was being asked for dessert or the bill when eating our much delayed food.

Excellent food choices and service. We called in after checking out the menu at lunchtime and certainly weren't disappointed. My King prawns were cooked perfectly along with the potatoes and salad. My husband's choice of mixed grill (3 size choices available) was also cooked to perfection along with proper chips and not frozen. Our dessert of Eton Mess was a great one to share to end an excellent evening.

It is not often that I describe a restaurant as faultless but tonight was an exception. Lovely ambience, excellent service and perfectly cooked and presented food with attention to detail. Would recommend the whole lemon sole followed by orange zest icecream or the whole plaice with eton mess as a dessert. House white wine well-priced and chilled. Will certainly return.

After spending a week in the town and sampling nearly every food place there, we dicided to give the summer grill a go. It was a early evening on Monday, restaurant was empty until we arrived. I ordered the T bone as I havent had one for a while.Steak came and looked fantastic, slight over seasoned. Flavour was non existant, tried to continue but decided for the 1st time to leave a steak!!Mentioned to the waitress that I thought the steak was bad whilst asking for the bill, before bill came, the chef came out of the kitchen and basically said that I was lying to not pay for the steak!! I have eaten steaks all over the world and to be accused of this is disgraceful. He stated that he had tried the steak and completely disagreed with me as this meet was hung for longer than 28 days.We are frequent visitors to the town but I will not return to this restaurant!!

Dropped in on impulse and wow, are we glad we did. This place looks like a house from the front but inside is a beautifully styled restaurant with a really relaxed atmosphere. The service was a bit slow eg. waiting for drinks but this was completely overlooked when we got our food. I had the suckling pig which was amazing and my hubby had steak, which he said was cooked to perfection. Will definately be going back next time in Aberaeron.

I've been waiting for 43 years for a steak as good as the rib eye I had here last week (my long search starting with the best ever fillet steak at the Stepaside Inn, south of Dublin in 1972).This guy really does the important bit right - finding and selecting the right meat and knowing how to cut it. Whether that's an art or a science is beyond me. All I know is that my being able to "shave" 2 - 3 mm slices off the side of a medium rare steak and then to let them seem to "dissolve" in the mouth is an unbeatable eating pleasure, the privilege of few. My wife had the baked whole sea bass which, by all accounts, was beyond reproach. We had in fact agreed, while we were ordering, that we would share our two choices but somehow, that didn't quite work out! Oh! - and incidentally, the service, ambience and pricing were all very good. The only concern might be for some (but not for us on a Sunday evening) was that tables could not be booked beforehand so you had to judge your timing of arrival with some care.

This is a classic case of ruining a lovely evening because we pay staff to do a job - that they are incapable of. We were greeted by lovely, bright young ladies, who found us a table and got us settled. I ordered Prosecco and the young lady admitted she was scared because she had not opened a bottle before. No training, no practice, no explanation! The menu does lack some elements- like starters and it also lacks a veg choice and decent salads -red cabbage, carrot and pomegranate???My fish was over cooked and the lobster was warm when it should have been chilled.Mains cleared and we wait for a dessert menu which is a torn strip of paper with three choices and cheese. The skeletal remains of my sole remain on the table along with the butter and bread board throughout.Dessert arrives and is consumed before there is any sign of cheese which eventually arrives aboard a school meal kitchen trolley on which there are two Cheddars oneCaerphilly and a Stilton from five miles from where I live.A few grapes, stalks still in, are tossed in a Ramekin along with a pickle. I used the old butter -still on the table with the fish skeleton which I swear had put on a few grammes!!!Coffee, liqueurs, more wine?Employ professionals and my bill could have been doubled - I love brandy and drink it in huge measures.Employ children and lose tens of thousands of pounds a year!It is hard to be impressed by this place - more Remould than Michelin.

We visited the summer grill on wednesday, the meal was okay but expensive for the size of steaks. Disappointed to find there were no starters just bread an olives at £3 each portion which is a little pricey. The biggest shock was when we asked for mayonnaise, which we were given in a tiny pot and when we had the bill found that we had been charged £1.50 for the small pot, which was only a teaspoon of mayo, i have never been charged for mayo before even at a top restaurant. I think the prices they are charging is far too high for the type of food served.

Having scoured Aberaeron for a burger joint(you won't find one,I think stegsy may have been in a different town or drunk) and having already sampled the excellent Celtic fish and chip restaurant we were perusing the menu outside the Summer Grill before heading back to the excellent cellar restaurant, when a gentleman emerged through the door and beseeched us to go in after describing the suckling pig dish as fantastic. We took his advice and were treated to a fantastic meal in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. My wife took the advice of the gentleman and ordered the suckling pork. I had the T-bone and our son had the child's steaklets. The food was fantastic, unpretentious and reasonably priced considering the quality.

Wow. Having scoured the streets of Aberaeron for something that wasn't Fish and Chips or burgers we found this little treasure on full display in plain sight. We entered the "walk in restaurant" and were pleased to be seated straight away. They call themselves a "walk in restaurant" because they only take bookings for parties consisting of 7 or more people. Which is a nice touch. On many occasion I've been into a restaurant in an area I'm unfamiliar with only to be turned away because I didn't have the foresight to research where I would be when I would be hungry. So the Summer Grill was a pleasant change as it welcomed myself and my wife in warmly. Indeed, as we entered we noticed that even though it was early evening we appeared to be the only diners. Still, someone has to be first I guess. No starters, but probably for the best as the main course was so big I was worried I wouldn't have enough room for the delicious puddings I espied on my way in. I opted for the Lemon Sole and the wife went for the Scallops and we were both blown away by how delicious they were. Considering I was to pay near enough the same price for scant artistically arranged food in a different restaurant the next night, the Summer Grill was exceedingly good value for money. In fact as we left, every table in the restaurant had people sat enjoying their meals which just went to show how popular the place actually is!
