Tried for the first time since moving here. Food was lovely, well cooked and hot. Good portions, left feeling full and satisfied. Staff, very attentive and of a pleasant demeanour. The Stag will now become my goto when friends visit, and I can't be bothered cooking.

Just been for an afternoon tea with my daughter it’s one of the best I’ve had. Great selection of savoury treats and delicious cakes beautifully presented.

The restaurant area is all sectioned in to booths. Very spacious and good service. We had the chicken BLT's with salad and fries. Totally full after. Pity we didn't have room for afters.

Went for the quiz night on Thursday and really enjoyed it. Had a meal but there wasn't much choice for vegetarians. Will be going back for the quiz night though.

Superbly run friendly cafe in Forfar, possibly the best bacon roll in town. The cafe is well-managed and maintained with fast efficient service. I thoroughly recommend the Stag cafe.

Great local pub, cafe and restaurant. Diverse and tasty menu, always a good pint and chat. They also have a pub quiz on a Thursday and live music most weekends. Definitely worth a stop for lunch, dinner and drinks if you're in Forfar.

Travelled to Forfar to see Scottish Cup tie and stumbled into The Stag. Well decorated, clean and efficient bar with attached restaurant. I returned after the game, bar was busy as I'd thought and restaurant looked to be fully booked suggesting food is good.

Going to an event in the Reid Hall in Forfar and had a meal booked at the Stag. Absolutely brilliant meal, staff were fantastic. Highly recommended.

Popped in today for lunch on the recommendation of the staff in Harbro…lovely friendly welcome in a lovely homely pub. Restaurant was full due to a Xmas gathering so we were happy to sit in the bar. Food was delicious especially the chicken strips for starter. Really friendly staff and great service. Will definitely return and most definitely recommend ❤️

Christmas festive lunch with a group of friends. I haven't been in the Stag for ages however had an amazing meal today from the Christmas menu. Food was excellent - all 7 in the group enjoyed everything that was ordered. Food arrived hot, well prepared and a good helping too. Congratulations to the chef. As most of us chose to have a coffee instead of pudding the only comment would be to pop a small mint/biscuit with the coffees would have been appreciated. Will definitely be back and if you've not booked Christmas lunch I would recommend it.

Recommended to us but to be honest was a bit disappointing. The room was cold no heating on despite it being a chilly day. The fish and chips were very greasy and our party did not enjoy them. Such a shame as we were looking forward to it.

Visited with friends from abroad as a meeting place that was central to their friends and relatives here. The place was immaculately clean and the cakes and beverages very good. Staff were attentive and friendly, a very positive experience.

First time visit, and will definitely be back soon, food was lovely, both had haggis starters, I had steak and ale pie and it was packed with meat , and the vegetables were lovely especially the carrots ( would love to know what the seasoning was on them please ), husband had chicken , service was great and friendly, we were the only ones in at that time so it was a little cold in the room, but it didn't put us off 😊

It's not the best meal I have eaten. Gave me a stomach ache for a few hours. On the good side, though. Service was good, portions were massive, and my partner really enjoyed hers. I must have been unlucky......

Nice quiet place, good food and scotch Glencadan.

My son and I dropped in after visiting Glamis Castle. The food was absolutely delicious. We started with the haggis croquets. OMG!! So good. The tomato relish that came as a topping was the perfect addition. I ordered the sticky brisket sandwich. It was so tender and flavorful. My son had the curry chicken sandwich and loved it! We split the sticky toffee dessert. The tart berries that accompanied the toffee really cut the sweetness. Don't skip this restaurant. It was delicious!

Lovely place, we were staying in Lour and wanted a meal out. The Stag didn't disappoint. Service was impeccable. Our server was upbeat and friendly and made us feel extremely welcome. I can't say anything but good things about the food, it was delicious. The Homemade Steak and Ale pie is a must-have!! If we're ever in the area again, we will definitely come back. Great atmosphere, it was a great night from start to finish.

Friendly staff , Poor quality food on our visit, The Stag burger was half cooked & pink in the middle tasted terrible. Was asked if all was well with the food when we went to pay the bill , I told the staff of the problem , They apologised that the burger wasn’t to standard & charge me full price anyway. The burger had one bite out of it. I will definitely not return to The Stag Forfar.. Shame as it’s a nice bar & front of house staff are friendly. Might want to offer the chef further training or replace them.. I would not recommend The Stag Forfar

We went in here on the off chance as we were looking for something to eat after a long day travelling. We ordered soft drinks and 2 x lasagne and chips. It was lovely. Really nicely cooked and with a home made slaw. My friend was unwell and the staff couldn't have been kinder. She didn't eat her food at the time due to not feeling good but she enjoyed it cold the next day.

On visiting Forfar popped into the Stag at lunchtime. Feeling only slightly hungry I was looking for something lite to eat. Was delighted to find out they had recently introduced a tapas menu. I picked 3 dishes - haggis bon bons with whisky sauce, ciabatta with olive oil dip & potata bravias. All were amazing and even with some help from my husband I struggled to eat all the food. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Premises extremely clean. Wide choice of food and drinks. Would highly recommend you visit if you are in Forfar

We all had chicken. It was a lunch from work. All were seriously impressed with the perfect cooking, lovely flavours in the sauces, perfectly cooked chips and super friendly staff. We will be back. Thank you

Went in with our dogs for Sunday lunch and it was great. Food delicious, tender roast beef, crispy batter on the fish and chicken Parma. I had the chicken fajitas with sweet potato fries, really yummy! Finished off with a knickerbocker glory. Heaven! Staff really friendly and good with dogs too, will definitely go back.

Steak pie was excellent, as was everyone else's food. Reasonable prices and just a 10 minute walk to the football stadium. Perfect for a pre-match pie and pint.

Food was really good. I wasn't keen on the bought in halloumi fries, preferred the ones we had a while back, they were big chunky ones and much more tasty. Nice enough place, wasn't busy and just one person running the place. Seemed a bit inexperienced however everyone need time to learn. Will be back for food.

We hired the stag for my mothers birthday, we were able to use the whole top floor and it was a great success! The staff were so courteous and the owner, Graeme is extremely helpful and very easy to deal with. Everybody RAVED about the food, of which the Stag was kind enough to cater us with (excellent selections). We were able to decorate the walls with balloons and bunting and play our own music (after a little figuring out). We were also able to host some live music from my mother and her band. Overall the venue was just perfect. I had a good look around for a venue in Forfar and this was by far the most comfortable and spacious, but also cosy. 5/5! Arrived with out booking, and they squeezed us in. It would be best to book. All I can say is Good food, Good beer, Good tunes and great service. Would highly recommend The Stag.

Been here a few times in the last 4 months and was very disappointed. Nothing like it used to be a few years ago under the old management. Was in for a few drinks one night and this has gone from a respectable establishment that was pleasant to spend an evening in to an establishment that seems to only care about money over the bar rather than people enjoying themselves. Gave the other side of the business a go when we Went in at midday to the coffee while Xmas shopping only to be told it’s closed but we could have a meal downstairs. So we decito do that. Staff were a bit abrupt and rude. Other place was freezing. But most disappointing was the food. It was ok but nothing like it used to be a few years ago. Certainly not as fresh or as chef prepared as you would expect for the price.

15 of us for our work Christmas lunch. Waiter/waitresses were friendly and effiicient and the food was fantastic. Excellent portions, everything was delicious and prices reasonable. The cheeseboard deserves a special mention - it was superb! The only slight criticism would be the drink service was a bit slower than we would have liked (although we are a speedy bunch).

6 of us had a lovely roast turkey meal..very nice moist and tender..couldn't fault it..2 of our group had sticky toffee pudding and was delicious..lovely attentive cheery staff

Fantastic soup and Haggis neeps and tatties were out of this world. Staff were brilliant and all was home made just like my Gran would have done. BRILLIANT

Very good selection on the menu. Mains and sweets are great. Soup of the day is freshly made and excellent. Staff are friendly with a good approach, and all is reasonably priced. Service is hotel standard and pleasant.Sunday lunch is always excellent.

Popped in for a bar lunch today and was very pleasantly surprised at the reception and quality of food. The bar staff was attentive and very polite, when the food arrived it was piping hot and delicious. An absolute delight, and I will certainly be back.

After a match, we always retire to The Stag with our opponents. Susan and the team really look after us all. Not only do they provide delicious soup & sandwiches but there's an amazing range of fantastic beers & ciders to quench our thirst. Yesterday, I ventured upstairs for the first time in years and was blown away by the stunning coffee room & conference area. The Stag really does cater for everyone. Why not support a fantastic local business? Pop in for a beer, a cake, a meal, the quiz, some live music or a team meeting. You won't be disappointed!

We were met with a warm welcome as soon as we entered the bar where our dog was welcomed too. Kim took our drinks and food order. I had a cake with me which I asked if we could have as a dessert ,this was not a problem at all. Our food arrived and it was lovely. The chef came out and chatted with us as did Kim and made us feel so welcome. The chef even gave us cream to go with the cake. Thank you for making mum's birthday special and making us feel so welcomed. Definitely be back.

A very quiet cafe upstairs, however staff were friendly, attentive and very accommodating during my visit. I thought the prices were quite high for a cafe menu, however I managed to order a wrap and side salad for a reasonable price.

Visited twice within space of two months. March and April 2022, both Saturday nights. March was excellent, service was great, food was very good, stag burger was great and a gluten-free menu was provided, this would be a 5 star experience if taken alone. April visit was unfortunately completely the opposite. Despite booking in advance, asking and being informed that a gluten-free menu was provided, it clearly was a surprise to the staff on duty. Options were from the main menu without the gluten elements (steak pie without the pastry….etc). Stag burger was terrible, overcooked, congealed cheese and under cooked fries. Despite complaining nothing was offered as an alternative or compensation. Staff seemed to be busy with a large birthday party and were apologetic to other diners because of the delays, hopefully this was a one off but I won’t be visiting here again next time in Forfar. This visit would be a 1 but I have averaged it out to a 3 from the first time.

The young blonde barmaid is not fit to work in a bar, end of story. Everything else seems to be in order but she has negatively impacted upon my consumer experience on multiple occasions so I won't be back. Sack her and tell her to talk to a psychiatrist. Edit: I got the pubs mixed up. This was actually meant about me he blonde barmaid at troopers. Sorry for any inconvenience. Peace and love

Had the Stag club Sandwich with egg on top. Fantastic, good portion of bacon and chicken delucious - definitely going to try more lunches.

Good pub food, generous portion sizes for the starter and main. Steak pie was lovely. Reason for 4 stars, please get the very squeaky door going into the kitchen fixed it was very annoying listing to it the entire time. Only takes a little bit of WD40!

First time in the Stag for a while and first time dining at their steak night. I have to say the steak was cooked to absolute perfection. I’ve had far more expensive elsewhere that wasn’t as beautifully cooked. The sides were great too, especially the chips which were very obviously homemade and delicious! Probably didn’t need the cheesecake for afters but it was too good to pass up! Friendly service too.

Great food quick service keenly priced

It started bad, someone entering on crutches asked to go to the other end of the room. Then the drinks were wrong I asked for a soda water with a half dash of lime - no lime, the soup came a couple of minutes later asked if everything was alright, said soup fine but the room was freezing - heating was never put on. Main meals came husband asked for a steak pie but what he got was a stew with a bit of pastry put on top, I asked for the chicken burger and chips and coleslaw but it was served on a piece of wood - no plate. Burger was good but I don't like skinny fries , coleslaw chunky. Waitress very sullen she has no idea how to serve public although she did ask right questions but only to my husband as I initially said matters bad. I wont be back for a long time

I was in Forfar for work and looking for somewhere to eat. It’s a great place, with really helpful friendly staff. I had the fish and chips, which wasn’t that great TBH, but it was OK and reasonably priced. They do a Chinese menu too, which may be the main thing. If im ever in Forfar again, I’ll go back.

Visited The Stag Restaurant today for the first time. Excellent Sunday Roast, in fact the best I have tasted in a long time. Very generous portions and quick and efficient service. Very impressed and will definitely come here again.

Food was incredible and the portions were very generous. Service was top notch, Kim in particular was a delight. It was great being able to have a proper 3 course meal with our dogs in tow, a water bowl was kindly provided. Definitely could recommend a visit for a dinner. P.s. the apple pie was huuuge!

Visited with the family and another family for lunch while camping in the Angus area. Everyone really loved their food. Haddock, Steak Pie, Burger, Scampi being the main choices today. Super tasty and generous portions. Service was friendly and professional. Would highly recommend.
