June 1, 2024 - Came in with a family group of 16. We figured it would be a long-shot to get all of us sat at one time, but the staff came through and found seats for all of us upstairs. We felt so welcomed even though we took over the space for a while. The fish and chips were stellar and the cider on draft was crisp. The family thoroughly enjoyed our meal and would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who needs a good bite to eat.

Casa blanca no disponible.

WE felt we were caught by the bill.We ordered 3 of the £10 daily specials (Thursday was burger and a drink) and a £10 fish and chips with a £1.30 lime and soda and extra pint at £4.20.They gave us a bill for £58. The waitress could not explain how a bill which should have been £45.50 could be so much. They had added 12.5% service charge - NOT SHOWN ANYWHERE ON THE MENU OR BOARD OUTSIDE anfd the cost of a glass of wine - which was included in the £10 meal.Eventually we got the bill down to £53.The food was OK but would not visit again.

This pub is situated in a very narrow old building, and is almost always very busy. The main bar is on the ground floor, with city workers drinking at most hours, with the dining area and a smaller bar upstairs. The selection of beer is just ok, but you can barely ever find room to even stand downstairs - unless you're a regular and you're coming here with colleagues, it's probably not a good place to go for this. The food, served in a charming upstairs bit that has about 6 small tables, is quite good, and not too expensive (but certainly not cheap). The waiting staff are not very friendly however, and are often keen to turn you away as quickly as they can if it's a busy day. Dish wise, the fish and chips does the job, and the sliced beef baguette with red onions is very nice.

We chose The Ship for its proximity to the Tower of London - about five minutes walk from Tower Hill. It is a very small pub and definitely a favourite of a certain type of city bloke. Walking into the bar I felt quite uncomfortable but was shown upstairs to where our table was waiting. It's fair to say they haven't bothered much with decor. It's a bog standard pub with wooden seats and tables. It was clear that the poor waitress was on her own and pretty rushed off her feet on a Friday lunchtime. We ordered fish and chips and a steak baguette. The batter on the fish was undercooked and the baguette was so hard it cut the roof of my mouth - the steak was tough too. We all left food on our plates. We paid the £40 odd pounds (for three people including three drinks) without complaint as it would have taken too long and the poor waitress was clearly under pressure! I really dislike giving bad reviews but in this place, there is much room for improvement!

Dropped in for a light lunch and a drink whilst in the area. We had passed by and noticed the attractive exterior but this was our first visit to dine here and we were delighted that we did. An old City of London pub still retaining much of it's character and charm, small and bustling with a busy lunchtime trade, visitors and City types all enjoying the hospitality. A good range of draft ales, wine by the glass and a menu offering mainly English dishes, with the option of main meals or bar food at reasonable prices. The waiting staff were very attentive and pleasant but unable to advise on details of the food which I assume was due to the language barrier but, undaunted, we ordered. We sat at a table in the dining room upstairs as the bar was very busy and had a very enjoyable lunch. Would recommend soup of the day and home made pies.

The barmaid snarled at us when we walked in, the barman downstairs sneered at me when I asked for a glass of tap water with a beer, the beer was so flat it had no head within seconds and smelt like it had been pumped through the gents pipes and they had no steak, burgers or chips (just after 7 on Friday 7th November). The only redeeming factor (and why this review isn't 1 star) was the barman/waiter upstairs who was very apologetic for the lack of food. Avoid like the plague - which incidentally was prevalent in this area in the 17th century.

As a sole female business traveller, based in the City of London weekdays, I'm always on the lookout for nice places to dine alone, or with colleagues/clients. It was quiet when I went (after 8pm mid week) but it may be that people aren't aware that it's re-opened after a refurb - very impressive surroundings. I highly regarded the staff welcome and attention. My dinner (battered fish, mash and mushy peas) was not the best ever - the batter could have been crisper and there was too much mash (for me) but the kitchen re-opened to serve me so i really can't complain! The downstairs bar is informal with snacks/lunch and upstairs more formal (delightful) for lunch/dinner and private functions possible. I really hope this charming gem of a pub is patronised fully - much better than the proliferations of "chain" pubs and restaurants in London. It really is true - if you don't use it you lose it - so, get in there!

Found this bar by chance and very pleased we did!Located in a quiet back street of City of London, this amazing venue has all the original features of a traditional London pub, beautiful character and grade 2 listed I understand which is great, because its a stunning pub and nothing should be changed! My work colleague had frequented this place before and it was apparently v poor! miserable staff and grumpy old male customers, literally propping up the bar! We decided to risk it, because my colleague who works nearby in finance had told me that it was under new management - what a great decision it was to go through the door!On entering the pub, we had an incredibly warm welcome from a v jolly and friendly chap called Ben, who we later found out is the manager. The great thing about Ben is that he clearly loves people and conversing, so he is definitely in the right job! But more importantly, he has a great eye for detail and a real passion for food and drink, which is again handy in this type of job. What is great, is to see a manager present, who actually knows what they are talking about! Clearly understands the importance of customer service and knows how to deliver it. Far too often you go into a bar and the supposed manager looks like a model out of a Hollister retail clothes store... Looks good but has not got a clue about customer service in my opinion! They spend most of their time looking at the mirror behind the bar in these trendy, glamorous, fad style, all singing all dancing, huge industrial, young people processing bars! When is the young, city workers going to disconnect themselves from the matrix of sheep following like cattle into these superficial bricks and mortar bars and restaurants, who rely solely on their aesthetics! Enough frustration.... I guess I was also that sheep once! We ordered some simple bar snacks - Delicious - Then proceeded to make our way through the selection of unusual and interesting beers. The bar snacks were great, but we needed more substance to soak up the beer. Apparently Ben is hoping to open a full Kitchen soon.... I really hope so for next time!Having made our way through most of the wines, we then switched to making our way through the wine list. Some really good wines at affordable prices, including a superb Rioja and Claret. THE SECRET SURPRISE!The final finale to the night was that Ben insisted on showing us the private room and bar on the floor above. It could probably hold up to 50-60 people and ideal for a party, birthday or quiz night or something... Absolutely fantastic! It had a dart board and table football which was hidden away like a scene out of Bugsy Malone, whilst Ben flipped the tables and venue around! I wired up my ipod to the Stereo and away we went. It was like a scene out of men behaving badly!!!So what was supposed to be a quick drink and a catch up, turned into a mammoth all nighter until Ben finally kicked us out! V Kindly he payed for our taxi, because neither me nor my colleague had any cash. We certainly had spent enough money in the place and the taxi was only to London Bridge, but it was a nice touch I thought. Will definitely be back, just might need to go for dinner before hand... my wife didn't talk to me for 3 days!

Looked good on the menu but in reality was awful. The veggie sausages were cold and didn't look as if they'd gone anywhere near any heat, the avocado tasted like it had only just been defrosted with hard lumps in and the other items hardly edible. The trouble is at London City Airport this is about the only place to get a cooked breakfast so they've got a captive audience.
