The Sheesh Turkish BBQ in St. Helens

Quality restaurant one of the best in St Helens, The food is always great quality the staff are always friendly. We are always welcomed with a friendly smile from the owner Fez an when ever he's not busy he will always approach your table once you've finished your food to have a bit of a chat with us. We have been coming this restaurant for many years and will continue to do so.

The food is beautiful, the service is terrible. The two blonde ladies who serve are rude, disinterested and clearly can’t be bothered. They let the place down. It’s never been as empty as it since they’ve worked there. There’s only one set of knives and forks out so when you’ve eaten the starter you need fresh. Each time we’ve been we have to ask for a knife and fork when the main course arrives. When you do ask they plonk a load down and expect you to send them around the table. We often ask for the smaller child size kebab and on this occasion we were told that’s only for under 14’s. How dare they put an age limit on a portion size!!! The portions are huge which is great for some people but my child and I want starters too and we can’t eat all of it so go for the small version. After our meal they took the plates and never returned to ask if we wanted coffee or dessert. Such a shame because we did, but got fed up of waiting for service and left. I’m not unreasonable, if they’d been busy I’d have waited but the servers were stood around and one was gossiping on her mobile phone. They missed out on a bigger order due to their lack of service. On this basis we will never return. It’s a shame as the food is lovely but the staff let the owner and the chef down I’m afraid.

It had been a while since we ate here but when we left we came to the conculsion that we should have been far more frequently! We started with the mushrooms in creamy sauce with bred which was very tasty. We then both had the Kebab; me the mixed which is both the Lamb and Chicken. It was just perfectly cooked. Normally you do need to book to be sure of a table but this was a Thursday and we managed to get a spot. We will be back very soon!

Went recently with friend. Food was delicious and staff very friendly. Our waitress was a young school leaver and was absolutely lovely, she couldn’t do enough to make sure our night was enjoyable. Will definitely be going again

ABSOLUTELY AWFUL !!!! wouldn’t go here ever again. the rice is a joke it’s the tiniest portion ever, the chicken is just bland and the workers just look moody af and do not give you the time of day. worst experience ever never again and it is very pricey for what you get, and the drinks are watered down. do not recommend!!!!!!!

Well we're to being place stinks for a start bad smell drains . Staff are terrible they had a fist fight whilst I was eating. The young waitress ran up an butted the older waitress behind the bar . Food ok but chicken very salty maybe thats so you wil buy the over priced drinks Toilets had a massive turd in them Avoid at all cost . Anatolia grill is just up the street go ther 😅 rice wasn't enough to feed my one year old

We love coming to Sheesh. What is not to love about beautifully seasoned, amazingly cooked barbecued Turkish delights. You always get a warm welcome from Kelly and Lisa into a relatively authentic setting. You’re treated like an old friend as soon as you walk in by the ladies and by Fayze….the super chef. Drinks are served quickly and there are decent wines for a very reasonable price Now, the food. we always go for the sheesh special offer which is a cold mixed starter with Turkish bread. It is simply delicious. The highlight for me being the chicken salad but the humus, the couscous, the Caçik, the Ezme and the abugannus are fabulous served with a generous helping of fresh Turkish bread. A perfect starter to get your taste buds going. Then the main event! The Sheesh Mixed kebab. Lamb kebab, chicken kebab, Adana, lamb chop, chicken wings and lamb ribs served with rice and salad. It’s cooked over fresh hot coals to give it that wonderful smokiness you only get from barbecued food. So I strongly recommend you give Sheesh a try….its very much an oasis in the sleepy desert known as St Helens. Ambience - 8/10 - Turkish music played not too loud. Other diners very friendly Food - 10/10 - outstanding marinated barbecued meats cooked perfectly Service - 10/10 - Extremely friendly and efficient staff who make the dining experience experience fabulous Value for money - 10/10 - Exceptional value at less than £50 for 2 to eat. Would I return - 100% yes and do frequently So keep up the good work Fayze and the team.

Ordered a sharing platter for 2. Received salad and one tuppaware box for the main and a small bag of bread. One chop between the 2 of us 5 pieces of chicken and 5 pieces of adana. Cost of £16.50 Someone collected on behalf of us so when it arrived we called to notify the restaurant of the portion size. The chef come to the phone and was rude and advised if this is small come throw it in my face then proceeded to advised he had worked there for 15 years screaming his head off. No pounds coins either got 4 pound change in coppers as they don't operate a card system anymore cash only. Not the best customer service rude and unhelpful Ashame really as the food was tasty But never again. I've heard this place had gone downhill but as we have used the sheesh for many years thought we'd stay loyal The whispers were true. Stay clear!!

Been going to the sheesh since it opened many years ago, and the standard has dramatically gone down hill. The staff are rude, not interested or welcoming and have no people skills. There’s no staff to welcome you and when you ask anything it’s like there doing you a favour. The chef / owner I feel sorry for. He’s always been brilliant but last few times the food has been poor. We went in February as a group of 12 and went this weekend as a group of 13. The portions are poor compared to what you used to get. And seems each time you go it’s less and less. Kids meal barely enough for my 6 year old. Main meals we all got a mixed from the Sheesh special to chops. And each meal had a small spoonful of rice and same of salad. Both times we’ve spent a lot of money and it’s been a let down from the quality it was previously. Really think they need some new staff, Lisa (blonde girl) behind the bar needs to dramatically improve her attitude. So rude speaking to people. It really is a let down from somewhere we’ve been going since the day it opened its doors. The sheesh has always been where we book for any family events from our family to family friends. Just feel so disappointed in the quality and how badly it’s gone down hill.

Not as good as I remember! No atmosphere! Food wasn’t great! Prices were astronomical! Poor service! Never again. Table hadn’t been cleaned as we sat down and no attempt made to clean it!

Great service and the food was amazing. The restaurant was very busy and the staff were very helpful and friendly. Our starter was lovely, we had the cold maze sharing platter, the bread was amazing. Our main meals were very good too. One of the best Turkish restaurants we’ve been to. Would highly recommend

Disappointed Humous was disappointing, they gave us a tortilla cold and cut up to dip...no pitta, not warm...the worst I've ever had anywhere. The meal was supposed to be chicken thigh and spicy, they gave a chicken breast butterfly, by this time I was starving and just ate it. Been before and not had issues, this time it was awful

I'm a fussy person and I could not fault this place is any way shape or form , the food was out if this world, the staff were so friendly , welcoming and professional! The presentation was outstanding !! and beyond clean! Could not recommend this place enough , I'll be coming here on the weekly ! SUPERB!!!

Went without booking on Tuesday 24th & although quite full we were given a table. When we go we usually have a shared starter followed by the sea bass. However we opted for the special offer of a mixed cold mezze & enjoyed the flavours although I didn’t like the one with chicken in it. We didn’t wait long for the main course of chicken, lamb & Adana kebab, lamb chop & rib & chicken wings/thighs served with a Turkish salad & rice. Again I wasn’t keen on the chicken wing/thigh & the lamb rib was rather fatty (fine if you like fat). The rest of the meat served was lovely. Main issue for me was the rice (cold) & salad which didn’t taste as nice as I remember. Our server was lovely & made us feel welcome & both she & the other server managed to see to everyone’s needs despite being unusually busy for a Tuesday We also had an Efes & double Bacardi & diet cola, a bottle of the Turkish red wine followed by Turkish coffee

Always excellent food. Highly recommend the sharing starters and platter. Gorgeous warm bread and dips. Meat is lovely, the lamb is so soft and tasty. The service is excellent, friendly and warm without being intrusive. We love it here and will return again and again. Thank you for a fabulous meal.

Always a fantastic welcome and amazing food at the Sheesh. Fresh authentic food cooked on a massive BBQ. We've been coming here for many years. It's joint 1st with my favourite indian restaurant. It's a proper hidden gem. The taste and constancy of the food is outstanding. The staff are always brilliant. We get the platter, and add 4 or 5 hot starters on to the order. For this, with a couple of beers on a Monday, night, it's about £40 each. You'll struggle to get better.

My go to restaurant in sthelens been coming here for years it never fails to deliver tasty food. Staff are really good and Fez is an amazing person.

The worst customer service I’ve ever seen in my life. Their chef is so rude. I will never order from them again.I phoned the restaurant to tell my order is wrong .he was so disrespectful over the phone. they weren’t even busy .when I was placing my order .I double check with them my order twice.bc It wasn’t their first time .I will never go back there again.their portion is too small and their customer service is awful. They are not even sorry for their mistakes.

Booked for a family of 5 adults. The sheesh is very a welcoming restaurant, nothing is too much trouble. We were made to feel very welcome. The food is cooked in an open kitchen. The food is always hot & tastes delicious. We will be back !

AVOID AT ALL COSTS. I have been in hundreds of Turkish restaurants in Britain and around the world including Turkey itself where I was a company director. The only Turkish restaurant I have been in my life where sauces are not provided automatically and where the owner wanted to charge extra for a portion of chilli sauce despite my bill being just short of 100 pounds. Third time here took my sister and her boyfriend still very good but bread was slightly burnt but still good only other complaint was that they charge us £6 for two tiny pots off chilli's sauce that was never charged before that's why took one star off

First of all.... The staff were lovely, friendly and attentive. But - We ordered Prawn Gulec - not available, Lamb Gulec - not available, gin and tonic - no tonic, ice cream - no ice cream, coffee - no coffee... Come on guys! You have Lidl and Asda within minutes walk to stock up short term on essentials. Not good practice to have customers select an alternative at every stage of the meal. Acoustics are also very poor and to top it off - upset stomach this morning.

Had a really nice meal, didn’t have to book on a Friday night, service very good, waitress and waiter very attentive. Chose the mixed platter meal for 2, lovely mix of 6 starters with a basket of Turkish bread, hot mains really tasty. Only criticism is that mains is served on a large plate to be divided by 2 which is fine but we were given another 2 really cold side plates to eat it off so unable to “make a meal” had to eat it all separate. Reasonably priced. House wine not very nice (but they only charge £1 a bottle during the week so proper plonk) next priced wine Hardys was ok, would go again but ask next time would ask for a proper dinner sized plate to eat the mains.

This place serves the best special menu which is great value and great taste. The wine is not bad either.

Absolutely delicious! I’ve never been to a Turkish restaurant before. I’m so pleased that my first experience was the best. The food is incredible! Value for money! I couldn’t finish everything 😂. The staff is very polite and friendly! The restaurant looks brilliant and clean, which is very important. I will definitely go back! Thank you for an amazing experience and great food!

The weekday special for two is £25 with loads of meat on a bed of rice, full cold platter with 6 of the most delicious dips, and with the best Turkish bread I've ever had. I recommend you add an extra bread for £1, you won't regret it.

We called to order a pick up from Sheesh. NEVER AGAIN. The male staff member was SO.RUDE. We have visited Sheesh numerous times over the years and had pick up through Covid. We have NEVER experienced the abrupt manner of a member of staff. WE WOULD NOT RECOMMEND AND DUE TO HIS ATTITUDE,HE HAS LOST OUR CUSTOM FOR GOOD. We ordered from here a few weeks ago first time trying the takeaway service. Sometimes I think this type of food can be dry and burnt however the meat is cooked to perfection, so tasty and soft. We was that impressed we have ordered twice since. Cannot fault one thing about it. Such nice food and not greasy like most.

Went for early evening meal tonight, first time eating there and most certainly won’t be the last. We ordered the special which is served Monday - Thursday, the starter was served pretty quickly a selection of dips with Turkish bread, the waiter Peter was extremely attentive and took great pleasure in explaining what each dip was. The main sharer was a selection of meats with salad & rice (I ordered chips as a side as love a chip with meat) the lamb was to die for (that from a person who would put lamb as his least favourite meat) Adana & Chicken superb. All in all a fantastic dining experience which made me pre book for Xmas Eve. If you’ve not eaten here before, give it a whirl you won’t be disappointed

Terrible customer service, forget several items, food was good quality but cold, there excuse was they were too busy and to come back and get what they forgot and also refused to refund unless we went back for cash Won’t use again, such a pity as a decent level of customer service would have resolved issue Poor

Service was poor when they missed something off our order! Got home and realised there was a meal missing...went back and got told we were lying when we specifically asked what came with this particular main. No sort of customer service when told 'we have other orders to complete before we can do your other meal'. Gutted that we won't be going back as clearly they r taking too much on as a takeaway service.

Very expensive. Small portions. No taste. Nothing even near to a good quality take away. Order special mix grill. Cost me around £13. Contained 4 smallest pieces of lamb cubes, 4 smallest pieces of chicken cubes, 1 chop and one tiny adana kabab. Absolute waste of time. I bought some more mix grill from a nearby takeaway which was much better at half the price. Don't waste your time and money.
