This is worth taking e detour. It's not realy near the centre, but a bus, or cab, can take you there. The menu is constantly changing, but we had a very very good grilled octopus. And of course don't forget the oysters!

Very interesting selection of oysters ans seafood. The cuttlefish stew was superb. The hake was very moist and cooked to perfection. They are trying a bit too hard with the desserts which unfortunately was not a pleasant finish.

Love the mussels in deviled butter, and the beetroot, goat cheese and white peach salad. I usually dislike beef tartare, but the tartare prepared by this restaurant is gooooood. The service was also very good - quick and personable. Total spend for 2 persons = GBP 50. Which is quite reasonable. Considering we had 1 main and 3 sharing plates.

The Richmond is local-ish to us and we go fairly regularly - mainly for the oyster happy hour as their oysters are absolutely top of the range and the discount allows us to fulfil our sea otter bivalve dreams with maximum greed! A trip on Friday with my husband's colleagues was a win - new additions to the sharing menu including the scallops with anchovy butter and duck egg with morels are top notch, service is friendly, welcoming and personal without being overwhelming and both the house white wine and cocktails (Sage Agains the Machine and Nefertiti particularly) are well above par. They were very helpful and understanding about shifting numbers in our party and our lead waitress was delightfully helpful and funny. In our own earlier experience the steaks have been less strong (though I hear better reports from my brother-in-law). But if fresh, fresh, fesh zesty seafood is your thing this place is a real gem.

Poor Value, Poorly cooked and shocking service. Incorrect dishes served that were not on the menu, staff dropping food a calamity of errors...all for a total of £80.00 for 2! The staff or the kitchen didn't seem to care, which is a real shame for a local restaurant. As others have commented the restaurant was also empty on the Sunday we visited.Simply do not bother on a Sunday (I have been a few times on other days and its been pretty good, which is a real shame). There are lots of other restaurants/pubs in the area that serve a fantastic Sunday lunch i.e Empress, Marksman, The Kenton, Bistroteque, Arthur etc

Went for Sunday lunch and the place was empty. I really don't get why. The price point and food is better than the other local joints which are ram-packed. The beef was £16 and lamb £18. All in the meal was £50 per head - including pre-lunch cocktails, starters, mains, (house) wine, post-prandial cocktails and tip. My lamb chop was cooked perfectly - proper crunchy fat (you only live once) on the side. The vegetables had been thought about - puréed carrots and creamed kale - not just steamed peas and beans.

Firstly, the service was great. They were overly attentive and gave us a free starter and dessert when our meals came out 5 minutes apart, which was absolutely fine with me. Most importantly, however, every dish we had was underwhelming and extremely overpriced. I realise that this is Hackney and you are supposed to pay ridiculous prices for everything without question but 18 pounds for 3 extremely small chunks of lamb on some cherry tomatoes that I could've cooked at home for 2 pounds fifty and 7 50 for a pint of ale, seven bloody fifty!!! I don't usually complain, but I was really disappointed by this place. Your hard-earned cash can be more wisely spent elsewhere. Like MacDonalds on Kingsland Rd.

There's nothing I can fault really. It would have been nice to have a condiment served with the lamb , like a mint sauce of some kind but that's a minor niggle . Overall was a great evening and will be returning for the Oyster happy hour for sure ! Recommended!

This restaurant is local to me and I used to frequent a previous incarnation regularly. Visited on a Saturday night for a celebration and was bit disappointed. Menu was limited and expensive, no surprise in Dalston these days. Ordered just main courses, the cod dish, the bread, which I assume should arrive first, came with the main course, which was rather small, so we had to order chips too after it arrived. Service was nice enough, and house wine was ok, but for the price, the food was not quite up to standard. Not rushing back.

The Richmond is my most local restaurant, so I try to support it as often as I can. I haven't been for a while though, so I have to say I was surprised to find that Cheeseburger and chips was on the menu. I didn't have it. But I did have some lovely Lindisfarne oysters and a fine fritto misto. It was delicious, as was the French Riesling. All a bit let down by the mousse for pudding, which was a little bit too retro for my taste. I'll go again as soon as I can though. And the service was lovely, as ever. My only slight gripe is that the tables are very close together and two of the couples around us were more interested in eating each other's faces than their dinner. Maybe the Richmond should do rooms as well, because the oysters seemed to be working very well for my fellow diners...

I have only ever been here for their oysters and their oyster happy hour, and my review is limited to that only. When my friend first recommended this restaurant a healthy jaunt from the Tube and Overground, I have to admit that I was skeptical. I am glad to say that it is well worth the trip for their wonderfully fresh oysters, especially at the unbeatable price of £1/oyster. The Richmond also has a good wine menu. What lets this place down a bit is the ambience, which is (extremely) dark to the point of being oppressive. I have often commented how a change in lighting and paint colour would really help the place out. I will also admit that there were two slight service missteps, which I hope they can correct. First, we were asked to take our pick of any table in the restaurant (it was totally empty), but then asked to move almost the moment we had unburdened ourselves of our jackets. Second, they miscounted the number of oysters. However, these errors were quickly corrected and the staff were warm and helpful otherwise. A great address to keep in mind for those evenings where you need some oysters to cheer you up.

Very friendly welcome and nice atmosphere. We came a bit early (6:30pm). At 19h30, the restaurant was quite full for a Monday night. A serie/movie star was at the next table. Crowd was rather young (30/35).... and the food was prime quality. We had several types of oyster that the waiter described one by one very well. Then all main dishes were fantastic. Meet was perfect. Fish was lovely. Shrimps were original. The French wine (viogner) finished to charm all of us. Great bred, slightly warm. Well done!!! highly recommended.

My partner and I visited the Richmond a couple of weeks ago to try out the oyster bar. We had a fantastic time and during our visit we found out they were going to start opening on Sundays. We had some friends visiting so booked in for a late lunch today. Firstly, the staff are fantastic. Attentive, knowledgeable and make you feel right at home. And that is what is great about the place, it's somewhere you could happily while away an afternoon or evening. We had some oysters once again, and I went for the tuna tartare with Harissa. It was excellent and my companions all thoroughly enjoyed there starters too.The highlight, was without doubt the lamb, which was to be shared between 3. It was the best lamb I have ever eaten. It fell of the bone and had an incredible gravy, which I believe included capers, samphire and anchovies. We mopped up the gravy with the sourdough bread we have.We ended up the last people in there, but certainly didn't feel rushed. Thanks guys.

Our experience of the service was excellent: friendly, helpful staff, who were able to explain clearly and fully about the menu, and all the oyster choices. We were impressed. Three of our party had the oysters and said they were great. They'd chosen which ones to have on the basis of the descriptions from the server and they were spot on. A small criticism would have been that the steak left the party quite early on, which was a shame, but there was a lamb dish and the fish dishes were great - the sea bream was pretty spectacular. Presentation could possibly be improved with the starters: the tuna carpaccio was a pretty unattractive heap and the crab scone was, well, a scone with crab meat in the middle; a bit dry, if quite tasty. But, overall, we enjoyed the meal, the service and the ambiance. Organic wines were good, as well.

I've been here twice and each time I feel the place lets itself down because of the poor service. As it's the second time, I felt a gentle nudge to management via a review would help but see there's been comments already with little change. The staff look great but clearly weren't hired for any skills in service. After sliding in awkwardly through the front door where if the maitre d is standing at the booking table, you'll no doubt walk right into them, I was shown to my table and offered drinks. The house white arrived lukewarm, we had two waitors taking our orders and so there was a mix-up there. Unfortunately the unfriendlier of the two came back and was pretty aggressive when correcting our orders because she was confused (as were we).We ordered more wine, also arrived (via a third waiter, perhaps an actual somelier? why three waiters?) lukewarm but at least were offered an ice bucket upon mention. Oysters were great at happy hour for £1 each but would definitly pass on a full meal because of the service.

We ordered lamb that was not on the menu. When first describing this the manager told us it was a quiche. It was actually a lovely piece of lamb that came with tomatoes, lettuce and potato gratin. We were told it came with roast potatoes so these were made for us and brought out a few minutes later. The wine menu is very pricey for a local restaurant. This is very much an oyster bar with some other food options. There is better food and value for money to be had in Hackney.

Went here for the first time with a group of work friends. The waiter was pretty chilly when we declined the too-cool-for-school raw oyster bar menu and chose from the normal one. I had expensive marinated raw prawns for starter and was given a tiny side plate with 4 average sized prawns in a sad little line. Not tiger prawns. Not even a garnish. Total waste of money. I should have sent them back, but I'm too English to complain! My friend had the "crispy" prawns and these were even worse! The "crisp" was on the outside of the shell, so once shelled they were really just regular prawns. So sad...Main was a bit better - the seafood stew was at least tasty. But a pretty measly portion and I had to request some bread to go with it. Dessert was a total let down. A single ball of mediocre icecap and a floury bitesized pastry thing. My friends said their tart was nice, but had to admit is was the colour and consistency of poo...A whopping bill later, I was totally unimpressed and vowed to learn from my mistake. East London has many, many nicer and cheaper places to eat!

I've lived in Dalston since long before it was Dalston, but sometimes it still has the capacity to surprise me. Like when we were ordering drinks before dinner at The Richmond. The waitress came back to the table to let one of our company know (supply sad face emoji) that 'there was no virgin Mary juice left.' Nor was there any Bellini Juice (sic), apparently. But we weren't going to let that spoil our evening...Great food, really fabulous wine, and service that was just, well, Dalston. (Constant checking that we thought the wine was as good as they did and reminders that each dish was 'really, really brilliant' weren't absolutely necessary, but didn't do anything to dampen the mood.Tuna tartare, dived scallop and crispy prawns were delicious to start. (Although again, one of my companions was told off for not eating her prawns the right way...) Then the mains were gorgeous too. (Lobster with flavour and Hake done to a t were the highlights for me). But we saved the best till last – caramelised apple beignets... gorgeous. So if you like your food interesting and your wine well sourced and don't mind a bit of occasionally overenthusiastic service with some rough bits at the edges, then come on down to Queensbridge Road.

Yes the starters are amazingly good - the crab buns and the tartares are recommended, although my companion found the scallops a bit underwhelming. Very reliable mains, but nothing to knock you off your feet - the hake was competently done and the chips really were good - but the seafood stew was lacking in pasta shells (circa 4!) and was served lukewarm. Service was erratic - a pre dinner drink was completely forgotten despite the fuss made about taking the order, and it was sometimes hard to flag down a waiter. The banana cake was as good as everyone says it is, though. The wine list is overly pricy. I don't know what they've done to the acoustics but it was really noisy, especially compared to the old LMNT, and that wasn't helped by loud background music of which only the bass was audible. Might go back for the oyster deal but we won't eat a meal there again.

We booked after reading the restaurant critics review in the Guardian newspaper so expectations were high. The restaurant is ten minutes by cab from Liverpool street so problems in getting there and first impressions are good. A garish outside leads to a refurbished interior (old pub?) with tables squeezed round the room - we had booked for six and were shown to an adequate table with just enough room but this added to the rustic feel and the place was busy with a good buzz, the food menu is one page (although the wine list is 5-6 pages long - why with such a short list of food?) the focus of the menu is fish/seafood and for my non-fish eating friend this meant no starter (shame !) while the rest of us shared perfect oysters, grilled prawns with a perfect lemon mayonnaise, scallop carpaccio and stuffed crab rolls, - all equally delicious, Voignier wine was chosen and went well with the food. For mains we had duck (for two but only one person had it (if that makes sense) my meat eating friend had steak again optioned for two but eaten by him self alone as it was only 500 grams and there was one lamb, one sole dish and two fish stews. The food was excellent and there was lots of tasting of each others dishes - this was washed down with a German Pinot Noir - not quite the right wine for every dish but adequate. Then dessert - apple baignets with some thing else - possibly prunes and a posset, All delicious. And THEN the reason for only 3 stars - the service went to pieces - it was strange (almost weird) but it seemed like the staff thought their job was done so no need to bother anymore, 3 coffees sever when four requested - no milk offered - we had to wave for attention to order a whisky - decidedly odd. So to sum up - without the drop in service 4 stars - portion sizes not massive (but where are they nowadays) but all the food perfectly cooked and presented - informal atmosphere and youngish crowd - we spent approx.. £65 per head but we did push the boat out and I'm sure it could be done for much less. So we say give it a try.

Having heard some good things lately about this new 'Raw' bar in Hackney, my companion and I set out to see what all the fuss was about.Yes, it is a wee bit uppity atmosphere wise, and the young things working were a bit green, but they were an eager lot and you could feel that they enjoyed working there. They were knowledgeable and accommodating, something often lacking in these popular new venues. We arrived for the the Oyster Happy Hour, were greeted by a welcoming hostess, who explained in detail the oyster selection. Oh, what a happy hour it was. Several choice offerings of oysters from the UK and abroad, paired with a nice Muscadet. At £1/each, an absolute bargain and we feasted accordingly. One thing to take note of...happy hour is from 6 to 7 weekdays and 5 to 6 on Saturdays.Dinner started a bit problematically as the online menu which we had consulted did not quite match the menu we were given. And as we did not receive the attentions of a server directly, upon deciding on a meal choice, we were then told an item was not available. The servers need to let the diners know of menu changes or substitutions at the moment the menu is given. It did not define our experience, it would just be easier for everyone, no?But it is the food we come for, and everything we had was either good to excellent. We tried most every starter, from the various seafood tartares to the crispy prawns and crab on English Muffin, And though the cod dish was replaced with Monkfish, my companion felt it was well executed. I opted out of a main course as I was very greedy with the starters, but I had the cauliflower and cheese bake side dish, and I honestly could eat their version of cauliflower au gratin each and every day...The dessert choices were simple, but inspired. The Banana Pie was exceptional...I have never seen it done quite like this before, if you like bananas, you will be in heaven. The sorbet, though smallish in size, was divine. All in all, for a very good meal for two, with two dozen oysters to start, a bottle of good wine and gratuity, £140.00 might seem like a spurge, and it was. But I left feeling it was money well spent. That being said, one could easily dine for half that and still have a great meal. As I mentioned earlier, we were a bit greedy...

Sunday lunch was better than fine, small but nice portion of beef and nice 'roasties' and creamed greens, however...... Every bottle of wine opened here is 'sampled' at the bar by the staff before being offered to the customer. I don't know whether they are just being pretentious, or, stuck in the 1970's, but I REALLY didn't appreciate it. If I order wine, I am more than capable of telling you if it's corked or not, I don't need a 25 yr old member of staff to tell me., plus, if I say it's corked, I don't care for a 2nd opinion... It wasn't, I just would've liked a whole bottle, if I want to buy the staff a drink, I will, it shouldn't be a compulsory percentage of everything I have !! 4/5 otherwise...

We visited this restaurant during its first few weeks. The menu is interesting and we tried all the starters on the menu. The dishes were fresh and delicious. The atmosphere is nice and the service was good. The food is good quality with prices to match.
