Beautiful surroundings and ambient music playing in the background Our starters were the fig and prosciutto, delicious and pigeon breast also delicious Main courses were Sirloin, beautifully cooked and the swordfish, also very tasty. Deserts Crème Brûlée and chocolate fondant, delightful. Service gentle, unobtrusive and polite.

Beautiful intimate setting and really lovely food. It's a shame it wasn't busier but I presume not many people know about it. The fillet steak with demerara and mustard crust was delicious, as was the fig and mascarpone starter - never had anything like that before. Definitely recommend!

I had the lamb main, which was disappointing

A quaint cozy and warm space. The service and food was outstanding! The Aberdeen Angus stake was absolutely fantastic! As was the rest of the meal.

This is a hidden gem. Tucked away downstairs on Church street, Saffron Walden, we had the place all to ourselves on a Thursday. Excellent food, wine & service. The chef came out to greet us and say Happy Birthday with a couple of free drinks. We had risotto & duck breast to start, followed by roast duck & swordfish, then chocolate fondant & summer pudding - all delicious. The ambience is superb- candlelit, exposed brick & beams and very intimate. We were very surprised it is not packed every night. Go find it, you won’t be disappointed.

I took my Fiancée to The Restaurant on Church Street for her birthday. Neither of us have ever eaten here before even though my Fiancée has lived in Saffron Walden since birth. What a lovely quiant place. Absolutely spectacular food, lovely staff and a lovely peaceful atmosphere. They had even prepared a birthday cake for her. I can't recommend this restaurant enough. We will definitely be returning soon.

Food is not average, service is really poor (waited over 45min for food - it's only an ~8 table place) and be prepared to go home smelling of kitchen...really disappointing considering the other reviews (dessert was left half eaten...)

A disappointing experience unfortunately. The ambiance is great, the quality of the produce is excellent, both the fillet steak and the lamb was first class and cooked to perfection, however the sides were bland and un-imaginative. Staff were friendly but in-experienced and had absolutely no knowledge of the wine list or what they were serving when delivering the meal to our table. Great shame as it could have been one of those “finds” that leaves you raving about it and wanting to return.

Christmas work party lot's of singing and dancing after a great meal

This restaurant, The Restaurant, is so inconsistent that last night's visit, after about 20 years, will be my final one. Rubbery pigeon followed by rubbery lamb. When the chef proprietor gets it right, it's worth the money and the incredibly variable service, but when he gets it wrong it's really not - and that simply happens too often.

The food, service and the ambience is just wow! There was this waitress who were so welcoming. I was a bit doubtful whether the food would match my Indian taste. But I was totally overwhelmed by their presentation and the taste. And the dessert, it was the best thing I've ever tasted. Do try their Mango Passion fruit crème brûlée.

Best restaurant in Saffron Walden by miles! Consistently very good food and nice service. Every time I go I try 3 new courses and I have yet to come across one that is less than outstanding.

I took a party of 8 to celebrate my wife's birthday. Excellent food and very friendly service. There is a steep staircase that is a challenge for less mobile people.

The food was amazing, especially given our reservation hadn't worked out. There seems to also be a cheaper menu, so we'll have to go down more often.
