Lovely hidden gem. Food is excellent, and staff are friendly and accommodating. Relaxed Parisian vibe to the restaurant. Nice alternative to more rowdy restaurant options in Liverpool.

This really is a hidden gem. Excellent food and wine and lovely staff. Not only that, its a social enterprise so profits go back i to teaching people to read. Well done all. We will return.

We were a group of 10 enjoying a family reunion. The Reader was a wonderful choice for our get together - the food was delicious and the service was excellent. I ordered the sea bass and it was one of the best ever. For dessert I enjoyed the amazing sticky toffee pudding and also shared some of my friend's Eton Mess, which was also fantastic. This restaurant is new and wasn't very busy for a Saturday night. I do hope they do some advertising to promote themselves to fill up the tables and become a big success. I highly recommend The Reader.

Excellent food in a thoughtfully refurbished location (used to be Cuthberts). We had an early evening dinner of the chicken supreme, raspbery Eton mess and an almond crumble cake. All were of high quality and beautifully presented. The beer and wine list is broad and not expensive. Tea drops tea was new to us but we’ll look out for it again now. Service was friendly and efficient and the reading charity link is a bonus - even the bill was presented in a book ! Give this one the support it deserves…

Went for a lovely lunch at the Reader and everything was wonderful. Able to order from a lunch menu, a prix fixe set menu and an a la carte which meant there was ample choice for all our party. I personally had the the whipped goats cheese starter and the vegan seitan doner kebab wrap both of which was delicious. Across the table we also had falafel and ham hock terrine to start and then pork fillet, chicken supreme, baked celeriac and a beef goulash and everyone was incredibly impressed and thoroughly enjoyed the meal. Despite being incredibly full we managed to squeeze in two desserts to share - a chocolate caprice cake and an Eton mess which were the perfect end!! The restaurant is lovely which lots of gorgeous sun spots, the service was incredibly attentive and the price was so reasonable. Would whole heartedly recommend for everyone whether it’s a quick lunch, a pre theatre treat or a special occasion!

Stumbled across this lovely, cosy cafe that’s easy to miss on a wander through town. We sat in for coffee and cake and all said how it was one of the nicest places we’ve stopped for a coffee.
