Rake Tapas Review I had the pleasure of dining at Rake Tapas recently, and it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. The service was absolutely lovely quick, professional, and efficient. The staff went above and beyond to ensure everything was perfect throughout our meal. The decor was warm and inviting, especially with the cozy log fire that created a relaxing ambiance. It felt like the perfect spot to enjoy a great meal. As for the food, it was freshly cooked, hot, and bursting with flavor. Every dish was delicious, with generous portions that left us more than satisfied. You could tell everything was made with care and attention. I’ll definitely be visiting again soon highly recommended!

We are regulars, we have been for years and the stand out thing about the Rake is that the food is very consistently on point, we've never had a bad meal. Sometimes the service can be spotty, it's not easy finding good staff these days, especially post covid. This visit was excellent, a 80th Borthday celebration and my grilled octopus dish was the best meal I've had in the restaurant..and I've tried most of the menu. The lobster was a great offering and at a fantastic price, fresh from Whitby, worth having if its on the menu. A big thank you to the wonderful staff, all of them faultless. My favourite restaurant in Littleborough lived up to expectations yet again, if you're in the area it's well worth a visit. Thank you to the wonderful staff and also the chef for some great food.

The service was highly disappointing asked one of the staff members questions about the menu which they wasn’t sure of the answer to any of the questions. I had came with my mum and partner as my mum wanted to try the scallops. She ordered something off the socials board my partner ordered the chicken kebab and I ordered some tapas dishes. We waited over an hour before one dish came (my tapas dish or one of) then another tapas dish followed five minutes after and so on. I had then one dish left to arrive when both my mum and my parents food arrived. The whole point of going for food as a family is to eat together I can cook at home and sit down and eat when I’ve sorted out everyone else. Once then mentioned to one of the staff members she said “it’s just how it works it comes out when it’s ready” Well that tells me the chef who I believe is called Chris needs to time his food a little better but his cooking skills were good but the family meal atmosphere was spoilt. Won’t be returning

Great food and place for a special occasion or just a casual night out. The food is delicious and accommodation is spacious and a historic building with a great nights sleep everytime we visit!

Second time I have stayed here and I’m pleased to say the exceptional standards have been maintained. We were st a friends birthday party so unfortunately couldn’t have dinner in the restaurant but we did have an amazing breakfast the following morning. Everything was superb. We will definitely be back for dinner soon!

Another excellent meal at the rake, as always, we ordered far too much, but were able to take excess food home. Staff were wonderfully helpful, even when changing the original booking which I couldn’t do online. Very friendly atmosphere with a warm open fire on a cold night. Thank you to all the staff

My stay at the rake tapas was excellent. The staff were so lovely and welcoming & the food was amazing. It is obvious that a great deal of care goes into choosing the best quality ingredients which are then cooked and presented perfectly. I stayed in the suit which was absolutely charming. The bed and bed linen were so comfy. A perfect stay. Excited to return.

Booked an evening table with overnight stay with my partner. This place is so lovely. A really quirky old building with open fires. Our room was really spacious, clean with gorgeous roll top bath. Huge, comfortable bed. The food was unbelievable. We ordered a couple of tapas dishes and the steak with scallops special was cooked perfectly and was so good my partner ordered a second. A very talented young chef. Service from bar staff and waitress was super. All were really friendly and they couldn't do enough to make our stay a lovely experience. We will definitely be back!

First visit to the Rake as a treat for Father's Day lunch. Party of four adults and two children. Warm sunny afternoon and pleased to have a table under the canopy at the front of the building. Chose a mix of tapas which came out from the kitchen freshly cooked and could be eaten at a manageable pace for over 90 minutes. The service was probably the best I've received and for such young staff, they must have been brilliantly trained i.e. attentive, friendly, helpful and professional. The food and the service was that good that we'll definitely come back again.

My partner and I spent the night here with breakfast. Clean, tastefully finished with stunning beam. Amazing shower! The food was brilliant and as the chef said they are feeders. You won't leave hungry! Thank you. I will definitely be back

Food is great - can I offer some advice? 1. Work on service steps - doesn’t flow well 2. Don’t spray strong cleaning materials in mid sittings. A wipe of tables with a non scent cleansers is best and will do til close down. Many thanks & well done!

Booked a table for myself and my partner for a nice meal, never been to The Rake before, looked inviting, so we thought we'd give it a go. The resteraunt is nice but very dimly lit, even in bright sunshine. Some people may struggle to see menus and specials board. You tick of your order on a paper list and write any specials you want on the bottom of said list. We ordered drinks, and sat and waited and waited and waited, for our order to be took, over 40mins, we asked a waitress to collect our order, she said she would be back but didn't return. We went to pay for our drinks and leave. Front of house agreed, it wasn't acceptable and didn't charge us for the drinks. We felt for a Saturday night it wasn't particularly busy either. Disappointed really.

Lovely tapas for Sunday lunch. Between 3 of us we selected 7 dishes and struggled to finish everything. The portions are certainly generous. Favourites were the braised beef rib, chicken skewer, garlic mushrooms and the tomato & mozzarella salad was really lovely. Service was efficient and very friendly. We will be back.

Our first visit and we were not disappointed. The interior is cosy with the seating in separate areas, our waitress was excellent and informed about the menu and the food was excellent. A delightful evening. If the Rochdale canal became easier to navigate on a narrow boat, we would return!

This was our first visit to The Rake, lovely premises, music playing and we were welcomed in. We were shown to our table and offered drinks. The menu arrived, a strip of paper and pen (!) and we made our selections. It would have been helpful to have a detailed menu so we could understand the dishes, ingredients etc. The salt and pepper on our table was from the Co-op! The food was good, however our dishes were brought out one at a time which tended to result in us not eating at the same time. £110 bill for two people seemed pricey in our view.

Another fabulous meal at The Rake. The staff were wonderful, especially our Italian waitress! Really enjoyed the food. Will be back very soon!

This is the 2nd time we have been to The Rake and both times were excellent. Deitery requirements are well catered for. All of the food was excellent, fillet steak cooked perfect and the service very good. Mark looked after us and we all loved the evening. We will be back again soon.

Had fabulous food and service here, we visited here on a recommendation by a friend. The food was lovely and the service spot on. We stayed at the Rake last August, sadly our two night stayed coincided with the restaurant being closed so we were unable to try the tapas. However as a bed and breakfast accommodation we could not fault it. We had a beautiful large room, with a huge comfortable bed. The room was very well laid out as was the en-suite. The breakfast in the morning was excellent, basically whatever you wanted. We found the manager to be friendly. The only slight criticism was the outside space which was a nice terraced area but could have used a bit of tlc.

We had a takeaway feast of home made fish & chips which also included home reared sausage last night which was amazing and highly recommended - great work by the Rake Restaurant and we will certainly return for more !

I stayed here last night with my fiancé, the hotel rooms were lovely; really nicely decorated with great facilities. The bed was huge and very comfy and the shower was incredible. We ate in the restaurant in the evening and the food was some of the best we've ever had they were operating a reduced menu because of covid but there was still plenty of choice. We had 4 dishes each which was more than enough and catered for my fiance who is vegetarian. We also had breakfast the following morning, there was a choice of basically anything we wanted and was delicious.

The food at the Rake used to be amazing but our recent visit was such a disappointment that we won't be returning.Upon sitting down we were told that the menu had been reduced due to COVID, which is understandable, but the menu was so heavily reduced that it was difficult to choose 5 dishes. We spent some time debating which options were and weren't tapas because for the prices we assumed some were full meals. Turns out we were wrong. £9.99 for 4 meatballs in a tomato sauce! Although I appreciate tapas come out from the kitchen when they are ready, the gap between dishes was rather long.The food was not great, a shock as we'd never before had an issue. The dishes were bland, the chorizo burnt and the patatas bravas lacked sauce.Despite also being in Tier 3 it was clear that some tables were from mixed households.A shame really as this used to be one of our favourite restaurants.

The Rake has been recommended so many times over the years and I'm now kicking myself that it's taken us so long to book.Food really was delicious. We ordered 6 dishes for 4 and it was plenty. Highly recommend. We'll be back for sure

This is one of our favourite restaurants but after our recent visit I can’t imagine we will be back any time soon. Since it has reopened after lockdown the food prices have increased but the quality of the food has gone downhill. I don’t mind a slight price increase due to covid but £10 for 5 meatballs is ridiculous (this dish used to be about £6 with far more meatballs). The portions are smaller than what they used to be and also not as tasty. When we booked there was no mention of a time limit on the table and this also wasn’t mentioned when we were seated, however, a waitress came over to the table and said ‘you’ve got 10 minutes left’. We hadn’t even been offered dessert nor had we even finished our drinks. Her reply to this was ‘you can finish your drinks outside’. This is not a realistic nor welcoming option on a cold September evening!! When we paid the bill a different waitress asked if everything was ok, we told her we hadn’t been told about the time limit etc and that we weren’t happy with it. Her reply was ‘er, sorry’. Another issue for us was the disregard of local covid rules....there was a table of 4 close by which were all clearly from separate households, people not wearing masks when walking around the restaurant and diners being told conflicting rules (some being refused the wine list due to contact of the menu and some being offered it no problem). I wouldn’t normally be bothered but after the Rakes recent Facebook post stating all of their rules which everybody must abide by when dining with them and the price increases due to covid it seems all they stick to is the increased prices of their food!! Overall a completely disappointing experience.

The menu limited which I feel is understandable given the the current situation, but food good. Staff and service very good and following national guidelines felt very safe. Would be happy to book here again.

£10 for 5 pork meatballs. Expected more. The dishes tasted fine, but pricing if some dishes really needs amending. Shame.

After a good couple of years of raving to my partner (a tapas virgin) about how yummy the food was here, he finally cracked and came round to the idea of booking a table. We had looked at the menu, both on line and on the Facebook page and had picked out the night before what we were going to order. On arrival we were greeted politely and taken to our table straight away, drink orders were taken and drinks brought to the table within a couple of minutes. After a short while I had to call a waitress over and ask for a menu, the waitress replied with “there’s the menu” whilst pointing at a black board on the wall that was on the other side of the room. I noticed the menu wasn’t the same as the menu on line, quite a few things were missing. A different waitress then came over with another blackboard and placed it next to the table (the one on the wall was too far away to read properly) I asked her where the full menu was and she told me that they were running with a reduced menu. This is very disappointing as most of the things we had chosen the night before had been cut from the new menu. My partner told the waitress that he felt disappointed as there was no pre warning of the menu cut, her reply was “it’s because of coronavirus” our problem wasn’t that the menu is reduced, the problem was because we had no pre warning, the website & facebook still makes us believe that the full menu is running & the prices are the same. The second thing I noticed was the price increase... the new reduced menu was considerably dearer than the online menu, for example ribs online were £8.50, the ribs on the new menu were £14.95. I would like to add that what we did order was lovely, and the food was nice, however the lack of communication with the reduced menu & price increase was really disappointing. When it came to paying the bill, the lady began to tell us that the reason it’s not on the website is because someone else is running it and they can’t do anything about it, this maybe so, but they have a Facebook page which is updated regularly, a little update as a status would only take 2 minutes. We understand that we are in unprecedented times and it’s difficult for everyone, however it would be nice to be informed of the changes you have made. Your website & Facebook page are not truthful.

We are from out of the area but visited this Restaurant last evening for a second time and had an amazing night. Dawn and Mark could not have been more friendly and fun. Any suggestion that social distancing measures are not being observed is totally wrong .. Alfie the guitarist was fantastic and the food was beyond words. It’s a warm intimate atmosphere in a unique space which will bring its challenges in terms of the threat Covid presents, but as far as we could see the owners are doing all that they can to make the place very safe. It’s a fabulous place that we hope to visit many times in the future and one that we feel all of its customers, especially locals, should support through these challenging times.

We have been coming to the rake for the past 8 years, always has been our favourite restaurant. Until this visit, understand it’s during covid but as a family of 9 we understand we couldn’t sit on the same table but originally when booked they checked with the manager and was happy for us to sit on two tables next to each other. Arriving at the restaurant they tried to sit us in separate rooms. The rest of the tables weren’t social distanced at all with the same layout and tables as before covid. The waiter was so rude with us, not explaining they weren’t handing out menus, the menu was on a blackboard which other customers had to come over to behind our table to read. When asked for what wines they had (as no menus) the waiter abruptly said white or red. Understandably the menu had altered, but prices had increased dramatically, meat balls portion £10 up from £6, we got three meat balls per portion, so spending £20 on 6 meat balls, food was lukewarm. I can honestly say we have never had a bad meal up until now, all of us have said how we would not be rushing back in a hurry, the service was disgraceful and food was not worthy of the dramatic price increase.

Although the food was great we were very disappointed with the lack of social distancing and general measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Staff were wearing face masks but tables were set out just as they were pre-covid with no use of screens to seperate tables and no reduction in capacity. We were orignally seated directly behind another couple (with the backs of the chairs touching) and felt so uncomfortable we had to ask to be moved. Even then we still had another couple sat two feet behind us by the end of our meal and in the end we decided not to order anything else and to leave early. They really need to reduce the number of bookings and ensure tables are distanced or that extra measures are in place in line with the government guidlines, particularly with the current regional lockdown.

We came here as a family as my mum had visited several times before - she was also staying overnight with her partner after the meal. The food, service, atmosphere and prices were all brilliant, we couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Portion sizes were plenty and the range was also great, especially considering they’d recently reopened after lockdown. My mum enjoyed her overnight stay as always. Would definitely come again and would 100% recommend

Having read the reviews, The Rake sounded very promising and entering, it was a good start as the decor and the building itself are actually quite nice. That is what the 2 stars are for. If I had to rate the food, I would be lucky to get a star.The patatas Bravas weren't spicy in the slightest and the sauce was tepid at best, the garlic mushrooms had no garlic taste and just had some garlic pieces in them and considering the prices, I can only agree with a previous comment that I was very surprised and disappointed with my experience.

We loved the food on our last visit and are going Saturday 1st august really looking forward to it 😀😊

A superb setting of old pub meets great food, stone floors, low ceilings and open fires is a surrounding that makes you feel like ordering a pint of cask ale and a bag of pork scratchings.However, the menu has an ample selection of tapas dishes to suit all and those we selected were all delicious and plentiful.

Top notch place! We loved our stay and as per usual the food was gorgeous. Very welcoming and comfy bedrooms. Highly recommended to both eat or stay over (or both) 👍

We visited here because it was a Monday and some of our regular restaurants were closed. What a great decision.We have lived in the Rochdale area for Decades but have never known about this place or really heard of it before.The restaurant serves tapas style food, but dont be deceived some of the portions (for example the Calzone) are large and are a meal in their own right.The ordering system is quite straight forward. There is a regular selection which id individually listed on a single sheet and you tally the dishes that you want. There are also specials which you write down in a separate space.The specials board has nearly as many entries as the normal menu.The dishes come out as they are cooked, but as the objective of tapas for us is to share that isnt a bad thing and means that stuff comes out hot. We had the follwoing from teh menu - Garlic bread with Cheese n Tomato Patas Bravas, Lamb Chops, Scallops in Parma Ham, Stuffed Jalapeno (Special), Meatballs with cheese, Mac n Cheese croquet's (Special) , Spicy Fries, Beef skewer (acclaimed the best dish) Meat Calzone and Chorizo with almonds and Honey (Our least favourite - but basically purely down to individual tastes - it was very well cooked). All of the dishes were generous portions exceptionally well cooked and, again with the exception of 1 dish, absolutely delicious, and some of the dishes would have been enough in their own right. The desert were equally as good (Spiced plum crumble and 2 types of ice cream - the treacle one was amazingly good). Moderately priced too. We will definitely be visiting again and it will be on our list to take people when they come and stay with us.We Highly recommend it. OUr new favourite Tapas Bar.

I don't do many reviews because in my opinion, most places are very average or poor to average and I thought this was the norm. However, our 'spur of the moment' visit to The Rake was absolutely fabulous! Delicious, fresh food (ordered way too much).Everything we ordered was spot on, so fresh, so tasty, so well cooked. Staff were pleasant, attentive. Best meal I've had in a restaurant for years.

Went with my partner last night. The Food was excellent highly recommend to go here for a Tapas staff very friendly and welcoming enjoyed our evening.

For the life in me I cannot understand why this place has got some negative reviews on here! Friendly, efficient staff, lovely food, MASSIVE portions, reasonably priced. What's not to like? I will definitely be coming again...but maybe not ordering quite as many dishes next time, food coma right here right now.

Went with hubby who is in a wheelchair, and two friends.Access for wheelchairs is very difficult. The owner was really helpful with the wheelchair and we sat down and had an amazing meal. After the meal, the owner and another guest helped us to get my husband into our taxi, for which we were extremely grateful as it was pouring with rain.So, food - excellent, as was the service. Would love to go back but don’t feel able to because of the lack of disabled access

Excellent meal, especially the stuffed dates with blue cheese. Lovely polite service. Couldn't fault a thing.

We Stayed for one night as we was going to a wedding in Todmorden. The manger made us welcome, the room was clean and spacious with loads of character. The bed was extremely comfortable and the breakfast was just right well cooked and really tasty. Would recommend to people that are looking for a relaxing weekend away, i think it’s a little gem and we will be coming back again soon. Thank you for a fantastic room and brilliant hospitality.
