Food terrible- kids cheesy pasta was a bowl of pasta dipped in a puddle of powdery cheesy sauce. My kid who eats nothing but pasta took one spoonful and was nearly sick. I had the steak ciabatta and sweet chilli chips- steak grizzly and half the chips were hard and inedible. My wife’s sea bass dish was ok to be fair albeit a bit bland. I’ve heard the Guinness is good but it ain’t going to win any awards for it’s food based on this experience which is unfortunate because it is a nice location.

The staff at "The Point Bar"were so friendly, attentive and helpful, going above and beyond to make us feel welcome, especially my 94 year old mum. The food is locally sourced. We ordered the recommendation for the day, which was fresh local fish plus other especially chosen meat dishes. It did not disappoint. Beautifully cooked, delicious lemon sole and pan fried salmon for my mum, plus a helping of the best flavoured chips I have tasted since my month long stay in Northern Ireland. The decor inside the bar is traditionally irish, with a gorgeous fire place as you walk in. The food was reasonably priced and the service was great. The Guinness was worth ordering too! A return visit is on the cards.

We were a family of 5 for dinner, off peak on a Wednesday. It took an hour to get the food on the table - not very family friendly when there’s a 2 year-old wanting fed. The children’s menu was the usual boring goujons etc. Ambience more pub/like than restaurant. Then the price!!! Far too expensive for what you get!

Service was terrible. When we got the starter and main I had to go up to the bar to request cutlery and napkins as we weren't given any. Waited 45 minutes for main with empty glasses and no one asked if we wanted more drinks. Cheesy garlic bread was soggy. Flies in the vinegar.

Called in with family for sunday lunch. Food was lovely, however we were disappointed with the service because when my wife was ordering turkey and ham, she had asked the waitress if she could have chips instead of mash. I was fuming with her reaction to this request as she rolled her eyes and tried to make us buy chips as an extra side, this made us feel very awkward. It seemed like the waitress (big stoutish woman) was one of the managers which made it more surprising. Its such a shame because the food was lovely and we wanted dessert but for obvious reasons we just paid and left. We got ice cream in portrush instead 👍

My review is somewhat different. I parked my motorhome outside, got out it, & managed to lock myself out with the keys in the ignition. Went into the restaurant & explained my problem. What a reaction, everyone, customers and staff immediately got involved, people ringing locksmiths etc. One of the staff climbed up on the roof, managed to open an impossibly small skylight & then unscrewed it, removed it, & climbed in! the hole was extremely small. He got my keys out of the ignition, returned them to me & then refitted the skylight; amazing. He wouldn't accept any reward from me for all his efforts on my behalf. All I can say, once again, thank you very much for what you did for me. The reaction of all of the staff & customers was amazing & I am humbled by the experience. I won't forget my visit to the Point Bar in Magilligan for a long time. Derek Moffitt. We called again today 10 May 2024 & had a meal, very enjoyable. We were served by Johnny, the chap who helped us out with our motorhome. Thanks very much once again. Pearl & Derek.

We called ahead for a booking and they asked us to come a little later. The place was packed when we got there and it sounded like some people at the bar wanted a table but weren't able to get one. The atmosphere at the bar was cozy with the fireplace. You could tell they were short-staffed as things took awhile. They have daily specials available and the portions are pretty big. Most of the food was average, but the side of mushrooms was delicious! They're right on the water, but unfortunately cars park between the restaurant and the water, so there isn't a great view from inside.

This is a gem of a pub-restaurant right at the ferry terminal on Magilligan Point. We had delicious meals of fresh fish, Guinness pie, lasagne and Philly steak. Fresh ingredients, flavoursome, generous portions. The decor is Irish pub style and authentic at that. The staff are friendly and chatty and really kind to dogs (there's a small area with a few tables where dogs are allowed). Stunning view from the pub on to Lough Foyle. It's not cheap but it's good value - we left full and content.

Had a steak, was offered pepper sauce with it, which unfortunately I took as it was the spiciest sauce I've ever eaten, had to scrape it off the meat and it was still too spicy. Girlfriend who likes a little spice had the chicken stir fry which was even too spicy for her. When I said to the staff, they were rather dismissive of it, and for a total bill of about £65 was very disappointing. I for one won't be back again.

Popped in and booked a table earlier in the day. When we went back to eat no table had been reserved and we were given the most uncomfortable table in the dining area. The poor lad who served us was so nervous he could not take our order. This is a family pub so expect children to be running around. The food was okay, while there was plenty of it, the fish and chips were soggy and the mushy peas looked like dishwater. The veggie options were not the same as shown on the website, nor were the prices. Average throughout, I would have given more stars for the service if I thought they had reserved a table for us as promised

While on a touring holiday our B&B host recommended the Point, we arrived mid evening without a reservation, the food hygiene rating was 3 out of 5, we would not normally eat in such a place. Many expensive cars in the car park so we went in. We were found a table after a couple of minutes, the place was busy, the food being served looked good. Drinks arrived quickly, followed by the main course, all looked well except the side dish of potatoes didn’t arrive. We had to ask for them! My wife enjoyed her goats cheese and portobello mushroom meal, I however did not enjoy my ribeye steak from the special of the day board. Every mouthful of meat had some hard or stringy bits in it that I was unable to chew properly, either leaving it on the plate or swallowing it if possible. The staff were very busy and were scruffily dressed and obviously untrained for the job at hand, nobody checked with us while eating. Maybe I should have complained, but after seeing the calibre of staff I decided to finish our meal and leave. Outside is the local ferry and some lovely views, but I cannot recommend this place for either food or service.

Folks, only giving this a one star as I want to share our experience. We are literally just out of the restaurant and we are appalled by the service. As we have been coming here for a while as we stay down here in summer months, we arrived today at a table booking for 15:30. We were brought down to our table (not asked did we want a drink) and sat for approx 15 minutes looking at a menu before being approached by a member of staff to take our order. After placing our order, we then sat for a further hour waiting and I decided to go and ask as the people beside us was wondering what was going on also. At this stage I had 2 drinks and I went to the manager and explained that I would pay the bill for the drinks and go elsewhere and I got an apology as one of the ‘new starts’ misplaced our order docket. So we ordered our food and the waitress that originally took our order came down and apologised and put the blame on someone else. At this stage I said don’t worry and I ordered another drink with her and she said don’t worry, I’ll get this drink for you. We were then approached by a waitress asking did we want desert, well a further 10/15 minutes past and still no menu left. When my other half went and asked for a desert menu she was told by the waitress ‘this isn’t your day is it’. We decided enough was enough and avoided desert and went to pay the bill and we were told one drink was being deducted for our troubles. Yes one pint. I paid the bill and spoke to the manager in the reception area and explained the situation as he was the one himself that said the rounds of drink prior to this would be excluded to be simply told, ‘I’m sorry about that’. More or less bye. The sickening thing is the food is good, however service is atrocious. My money can be spent elsewhere!!

Seafood chowder was the worst I’ve ever had with a consistency of porridge and tasteless with a few small flakes of salmon and 2 prawns, didn’t have a choice to change as they had no wheaten bread left so served it with burnt ciabatta without even asking. Steak was poor with limp old salad garnish, greasy chilli chips with too much chilli and chorizo sauce which was full of grease and too many big chunks for a sauce! Wont be back!

Waiter who said us down was super rude and argued quite a bit with us that we didn’t tell him we had a pram with us when requesting a table and this seemed to be a major issue. It was super embarrassing and I just felt a little like babies weren’t welcome - I’m still getting used to baby life with a 4 month old and this was one of our first trips out for dinner as family of 3. We were driving from Sligo to Bushmills and decided to stop for some food and we couldn’t have stopped anywhere better. I had the Pepper Steak sandwich and my wife had the lasagna. So much but so delicious. Super friendly staff as well.

My wife and I had our lunch here last Friday, (19 June). Welcomed by very pleasant helpful engaging staff. Very comfortable relaxing atmosphere Our food was delicious especially the seafood chowder. Would be more than happy to return.
