Very good food but lacking in atmosphere ( no music, candles or ornaments/flowers)

Said it was open, drove the whole way here and it was closed! Joke..

Delicious but more vegan and even just vegetarian options needed. Most items all cooked in same utensils as meat. Therefore not vegetarian

I was told it would take an hour for delivery. It then took 1.5hours and I rang and they did not know where the delivery driver was.

Visited early on a Tuesday evening at short notice with family and had such good food. Very well presented, great choice, great tastes and very good value for money. Only gripe is that heating could be better as we move into the cooler months. We will be back!

Excellent food, generous portions and very attentive service. Look forward to revisiting especially when the new owners have finished redecorating.

I just had a carry out from this restaurant, and yes - there were a few extras, which was nice, but overall we were disappointed with the food. We had both starters and mains, and everything tasted more of salt that anything else. I like the subtle spices of Indian food, so was a little disappointed.

Been there last week with a few friends, we all ordered a different dish so we could share..derive was slow around 50 minutes for everything to arrive. If there food were nice, we wouldn't mind waiting but it was awfully oily , greesy and bad ..we didn't finished and we won't be back...

We had a family meal here in January. There were 14 of us, a combination of adults and children. My dad would not be a very adventurous eater so when I booked I asked if it would be possible for him to have a steak. There was no problem at all with the request he was given a beautiful sirloin steak with onions, mushrooms and a large portion of chips all of which he really enjoyed. Not only was his meal excellent but all our meals were. The ingredients were fresh and everything was served by friendly staff who were only to wiping to ensure our meal was enjoyed. One of the perks at this restaurant is you can bring your own bottle so your meal works out considerably cheaper than going elsewhere. All in all excellent. Am looking forward to my next visit, which will be this weekend!

We gave this place another go yesterday thinking maybe it had improved. Oh how wrong we were! The "balti exotica" had been microwaved from frozen and once tipped from the container the plate was swimming with water! It tasted bland and to be honest I was too worried for my health to eat it. The doner meat had been recooked so many times it was rock solid. You could snap it in half. It went straight in the bin! The "chilli sauce " was still frozen and came out of it's little pot looking like a chilli slushy. Disgusting. Even the chips had been reheated. Didn't bother to complain, it's never seemed to get anyone anywhere. Management literally don't care. I really think environmental health need to pay an unannounced visit because there is no way health and hygiene standards and being maintained going by what I received yesterday. Close the place down or get new staff and a new chef pronto! Food was disgusting!!!!

Food was tasteless. Uncharacteristic lack lack of flavour this evening. Both in my wife's& my own meal. Unfortunate as food here is usually quite good.

Use to be lovely food. I went back after being overseas and this will be my last. Waited for half hour for the food which was over priced and a big disappointment. The garlic nan was doey and you could not taste the garlic.

Average food, has potential to be so much better hope it improves. Having lived in areas where Indian cuisine was in competition with each other, the local Indian cuisine leave a lot to be desired. Quality compared to the rest of the country & uk is very low. With both in the town don’t expect too much and you will enjoy your meal

Avoid at all costs!!!! Terrible staff get the order wrong and food was rotten and I say this to anyone thinning off going, stay well clear off this poor poor Indian, donar meat is dog meat

It's not often that I am severely critical of an eatery but here we go! Fair to say that I cook Indian food from scratch ( no jar sauces or pataks pastes ) using madhur jaffrey recipes and have been doing so for years so I know the importance of subtlety and balance in heat flavour and spice.

Onion bhaji terrible a ball of the crispy onions u buy in asda rolled and deep fried, never had one like it before, terrible! dopiaza sauce bland spiced but very salty, rotten . nan bread that u cud bounce, chips dripping in grease u could get a teaspoon of grease out one!! Never ever again, it was good years ago before it very clearly changed ownership, n very expensive for the absolute rotten meal u get

As a self confessed Indian food fan I was really impressed with this place. The food was very tasty and the chicken tikka was especially tender.

Como una familia fuimos aquí para mis hijas comida de cumpleaños. . . 8 personas en total. Absolutamente ninguna otros clientes toda la noche. Sin embargo hermosa comida era el servicio tenía serias carencias! Tuvimos que llamar a la chica a nuestra mesa a preguntar si ella iba a tomar nuestros pedidos de entrantes para la comida después de estar sentados por 20 minutos más. Pedir bebidas. Una vez sentado mientras no donde nos preguntó si todo estaba bien! Lo entiendo si fuera llevado allí donde miramos los pies, pero no había nadie más en el 2 horas y media estábamos allí. Principalmente el tiempo de espera! ! Ridículo.

Mi esposa y yo llamamos en ayer por la tarde y para nuestra sorpresa, estaba tranquilo. Caballero nos llevó a la zona donde disfrutamos de un par de crujientes popadums crujientes con salsas recién hechas. Nos trasladamos a vegetales con ensalada fresca (Bhajis no pasada lechuga aquí). Eran deliciosos.

This place just gets worse and worse. The only thing is that when the food actually arrives it is always very good. If they had more cooks and another person on the floor it would be great

I have eaten here and had their take away meals. The meals do not disappoint, good portions, piping hot and beautifully cooked. The atmosphere in the restaurant is lovely. The only {small} egative point, is that is a wee bit cold. So, wear your thermals!!

My family have eaten from here now a number of times and I must say that I thought the food was decent. The service is what you would expect from a good eatery and the price is reasonable.Tonight though, I asked for a nan bread with my meal instead of rice and they said that wouldn't be a problem. Having checked the price now that I am home, it is clear that I was charged for the nan anyway.The £2 odd is not the problem, but the principal of being overcharged is a major issue for me. This is the second time this has happened in a local Indian restaurant - this simply wouldn't happen in the city.Keep the £2 guys, it will be the last money you make off my family. There are so many good quality Indian restaurants in the area to choose from and passage to India is quite forgettable.

Before we moved away this was our favourite Indian restaurant so we were itching to get down here as soon as we moved back! Didn't realise it is under new owners and unfortunately we were less than impressed! Overcharged for our order (by £13!!) And the food was over cooked, chewy and cold. Luckily there are other better restaurants close by.

Visited Passage to India this evening. Great food and excellent value. Amazing deal from Monday to Thursday everything on sit in menu 50% off and you can bring your own wine. I will definitely be back to take advantage of this offer which is on next month too.

Me and my boyfriend had been visiting castle ward and decided to head into downpatrick for a curry! The food was absolutely sensational at the passage to India! I'd go as far as saying it was the best Indian food I've ever eaten! And service was great, we were even given vegetable pakoras to try in the house!

We went here for a meal last Saturday night. The food was wonderful, the flavours were great and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The staff were friendly and the surrounding were nice. I would definitely recommend coming here to eat. It is by far the best Indian restaurant in Downpatrick and I have been to both. Top notch food!! Plus you can bring your own bottle!

After the celebrations of new years eve, I was feeling too delicate to cook, and so I took the family to The Passage to India in Downpatrick.I love this place, the food is fantastic and if I'm not sure of something the waitress or waiter is always happy to explain.The prices are great and being able to bring your own bottle of wine or beer is a massive bonus.They offer a delivery service 7 days a week, which is quite handy for our family movie nights in.5* Food5* Staff

The worst meal my partner and I have ever had. I ordered a korma, which tasted of water, I think due to cheap cuts of meat and bad sauce. There was no elements of almond or coconut, after two mouthfuls, I couldn't eat the rest. My partner ordered garlic and chili chicken but asked for low/ medium heat, however, it came out incredibly spicy, and neither of us could eat it. Coupled with this, we were served poppadoms when we arrived, which we thought was a nice touch, but turned out to be an extra charge. Also, my £9 korma wasn't served with rice, which was a £2.20 extra charge. We complained and were told that the sauces were new recipes, which was a load of ****. A new Indian restauant has opened on Irish St in Downpatrick, I receommend everyone try that instead.

I am writing this review in the middle of eating sublime Indian cuisine in The Passage to India. So eager was I to rant and rave about this amazing restaurant. I had initially come into order a take away but decided to dine in since the difference was minuscule and I'm so glad I did. I normally order the same dishes everywhere I go to compare the quality of each Indian restaurant. Lamb madras extra hotSaag AlooPlain NaanPilau riceWhat came out of the kitchen to my table ranks with anything Belfast has to offer. The depth of flavours and spices, the lightness of the bread and the heat of the madras together with poppadoms and dips included in the Take Away price (nice touch chef). Friendly staff and prompt service added the final touches to what is without doubt a real hidden gem. Hot towel has now arrived and my meal is now complete. If you like authentic Indian cuisine you have GOT to try this place! It truly did take me on the Passage to India. Oh did I mention it's BYOB!! What more would you want. Go!!

have been eating out off passage to india for few years.always found it very good.but in recent weeks the food has been outstanting think it may have new chef/owners.if you want proper authentic indian food this place is hard to beat.

This place was one of our family favourite place to eat untill last nite,we had placed an order was read bk by girl on the phone we asked how much she said £49.50 that was ok,picked the order up and payes £54 wen we got it home we realised there were quite a few things missing, so we phones bk to say things were missing, the girl then read the right order bk and she then went to say to who ever was in charge wat was missing then the manager came on the phone and tryed to say that everything was in it bt there was loads missing he was the most ignorant man iv ever spoke to in my life,I'm sorry to say if he was manager of my business I wouldn't have him there he's just lost my family custom !!!!!!!i had to wait another 1hour to receive my food as the delievey driver didn't have a clue were he was going the new owner really need to take a look at his staff !!!!!!

After a VERY bad experience at RAW SPICE we were forced to find another Indian restaurant. Here the welcome was warm and the food was really good. For me my meal was not "hot and tasteless" but the spices used were full of real Indian flavours. A real breadth and depth of flavour and taste.The decor is simple with tables for those who wish to eat in and a waiting area for carry outs. It seemed that everything was cooked to order from scratch.We will be back.

Food was cold not that nice to eat when we toke it home would of sat but was to cold in the restaurant the staff did not now that much English rather go to raw spice down where the cinema is and they do meal deal with the cinema see u in a bit raw spice

Great restaurant and carry out. Kids love the food, portions are excellent and well worth the money. The kebabs are very good but the only issue when getting for carry out is they stick to the paper wrapping. Would consider putting a grease proof layer between the kebab and the paper so half the nan is not stuck otherwise no complaints!

The food is fabulous! I'm vegetarian and love all the side dishes. Well worth a visit - I enjoy it every time.

Love this place! Me and my partner would get food out of here maybe 2/3 a month! Iv never had bad food out of it. I always go for the garlic chilli chicken and my partner has chicken tikka and you get what you pay for!Would highly recommend

we got a take away last night,I had a good feed last night, the chicken tika massala, Lamb Korma, King prawn Jalfrezi and 2 peswari nann with a few popadoms thrown into the mix , real handy for cooling down the mouth after the jalfrezi, pilau rice x3i was telling my long time friend about the feast we got and he should try it next time he is around this neck of the woods

I drive past two other Indian restaurants to get to the passage of India.The food is always fresh and tasty. The prices are very keen and staff are very efficient and friendly.

Every time I am travelling through DP I look to pick up my usual Tikka fix here. The staff is very friendly and the food is just as appeasing. If you're looking for Indian food in the area be sure to stop in here.

This is one of the best indians i have ever eaten from. The restaurant is small but the staff are friendly and accommodating, the food is top standard and made exactly to your order. Have tried many dishes and have not found fault with any!And its bring your own..which is even better! a definite must!

Always get the Tikka and have never been disappointed. The other food looks great as well. However, the Tikka and Naan are too good to change. Staff is very friendly and accommodating.

I love Indian food and was thrilled to find an Indian when visiting Downpatrick! My friends and I all really enjoyed the variety of good we tried! The dips with the pomadums were especially yummy! We all loved the garlic naan and pilau rice! Would really recommend! Can't wait to go back to Downpatrick and back for more Indian

The food is made as you order, it make take a little time but it is worth the wait. You can ask for it to be authentic or toned down heat wise. Definitely worth a visit !

Visited this Indian restaurant many times from the time you step into the restaurant you are greeted with a friendly smile . The menu is great from starters to mains and sweets ,the produce is local and high quality, the owners take time for a word with u and any requests are catered for a big plus is BYO drink. Overall a great place to dine with no limit on how long you stay .MY fav is lamb jal jal

Spent Bank Holiday Sunday in the Passage to India and once again the meal and service was top quality. The balance of flavours is so good. Service effective and friendly. For a good meal out as a couple or with friends this is a great place to spend an evening. It is a BYO restaurant. Well done to all involved with Passage to India.

Found a live bug in the nan bread so I rang to complain. "Manager" explained that there was no way this could happen as the windows were sealed and nothing like this had happened since "The last time"!!! was reluctant to give me a refund eventhough none of the food was eaten! Foul place and only has 1 star for hygene!

We eat here on a regular basis, find at all time the staff friendly, and food good. Cheap night out if your in the DownPatrick Area, try the Lamb Madras or the Chicken Tikka Nag puree our favourite! Off licence next door so if you run out not far to stock up!
