Nice relaxed friendly hotel. First room was very small, should be a single room. Receptionist was very helpful. Showed us other available ungraded rooms & able to upgrade to a lovely spacious room for a great additional cost. Hotel very clean & rooms have good facilities, safe, iron, hairdryer, safe, fridge, luxury toiletries, wifi hit & miss but free. Lovely view. Beer garden, would have posed an issue if people were smoking as it was right under our window but luckily no smokers. Issue with hot water on first 2 days, took approx 20 mins to get hot water, gallons of water wasted trying to get water at temp that was OK to shower in. This was the case for all rooms (heard others at reception re this). Breakfast was good. Portions good & piping hot. Only issues were herb sausages not to our liking & choice of hot food Limited to cooked breakfast or veggie breakfast. No fish or omlettes etc. Bar prices are expensive & bar menu ridiculously expensive. £22 for half roast chicken (£44 for a chicken!!!) No wonder the bar was empty & we heard staff saying only 1 table booked for a meal. We ate out every night. Pool at hydro worth a visit. Staff all very friendly & helpful. Cakes are to die for!

We stayed three nights with my partner and everything was lovely. Delicious food, friendly staff and beautiful scenery. The only thing that was even a little negative was that the voices from other rooms/hallway could be well heard to our room, but it didn't matter when everything else was so good!

A family lunch at The Park was quite honestly the worst meal out we can remember having anywhere! Terrible food that should never have left the kitchen, with triple cooked chips that were completely inedible. My husband and I both ordered the haddock, and what we were served was a sliver of fish coated in oily batter. This was placed on top of the chips, maybe to try and hide them? Our party of four was seated round a very small table in very low chairs that were too wide to fit underneath the table! It would have been ok for having coffee maybe, but not for a lunch - there just wasn’t enough room on the table for our plates, glasses and cutlery. We struggled to get my 91 year old mother close enough to her food to be able to eat her meal, and the rest of us were perched uncomfortably with no room for manoeuvre! We did tell the restaurant manager that it was terrible, and we weren’t charged for the two fish courses, but we definitely won’t go back. It was especially disappointing as we don’t manage to get together for lunch often, as we live overseas. Next time we’re in Peebles we’ll just stick to The Green Tree!

I've stayed here twice now as an overnight stop over after business further north. The hotel is very comfortable and well situated. It's a short walk from the centre of Peebles, which has plenty of places for drinks and food. The breakfast is superb! Also very handy that they have a charge point for electric cars 👍

Fantastic Scottish hotel with a unique historic twist. Bedrooms modern, clean and comfortable with amazing views out the back of the hotel. Breakfast had alot of choice and very good quality. Impressed with the melon selection. Staff all very friendly and helpful. Evening meals in the bar were also amazing quality and good value for money. We would deffinately come here again. Great location too. The only issue was the water for the shower is very difficult to get the correct temperature. Hot tap is extremely hot so be careful. Lovely decor and facilities

Room was clean and comfortable, big enough if only staying a couple of nights as we were but you might struggle if staying longer as there wasn't really anywhere to hang or store clothes (no clothes hangers or drawers) in the rooms we had on the top floor. Plenty of tea and coffee provided, as well as some biscuits which were replenished each day. TV appeared to be freeview, and worked fine for the majority of the stay, but given the rest of the room/hotel appeared quite newly refurbished felt that a smart tv with options to access Netflix, Prime, etc would be better (esp given the price of the rooms - have stayed in cheaper accommodation with this option). Staff were all friendly and very helpful, couldn't fault them. Breakfast selection was great, though the cooked breakfast wasn't consistent - one day were given two rashers of bacon/sausage, another only one for example - so you might be best to specify how many you'd like when ordering! Would've been nice to have had something to warm the croissants on, as the butter was quite hard to spread, but other than that no issues! Didn't dine here as the menu wasn't to our taste and quite pricey, but was easy enough to walk along into Peebles. Would say be wary of staying in the rooms on the top floor (80+) as we had a couple issues with them during our stay - shower stopped working on a couple of mornings, no hot water tap on last evening, and the TV stopped working the last night (alerted the hotel so hopefully those will be resolved soon). If you're taller than 5'3 the shower might be tricky with the combed ceiling, the victorian style mixer taps were awful for trying to get the water to remain a stable temperature (either scaldingly hot or bitterly cold!) almost gave up at one point. Would recommend the hotel, but it may depend on what room you get as to your experience.

We had booked for dinner in the Ballantyne Bar on a Thursday evening. It was not busy, only two other tables occupied, and there was a real lack of atmosphere. The very young waiter didn't provide much of a welcome and just pointed us in the direction of our table. When he brought our wine he just placed it on the table and didn't show us the label or offer to pour. Despite the place not being busy we had to wait 45 minutes for our food to arrive. The burgers which we had ordered were supposed to come with "our own hand cut triple cooked chips", but instead came with wedges. When we queried this the waiter simply said that was how they did chips! My wife queried the quality and eventually the chef came to our table, he was very defensive and didn't seem interested in our concerns. They then had the cheek to add a service charge to the bill! The staff seemed immature and inexperienced; it really needed a manager with a bit of experience on hand to run things properly. We had been thinking of returning to try the hotel's Tryst Restaurant, but after this disappointment I doubt that we will bother.

This was our first experience of a tasting menu and we were very impressed. Amazing value for menu. Food of this quality is a city would cost twice as much if not more. Excellent varied menu. It is hard to say what our favourite dish was - mackerel with variations of turnip, venison, partridge with Asian influence and broth and a blue cheese beetroot and pear dish which was unexpectedly delicious. My advice would be try everything. The venue is intimate with good ambience. There were 10 guests and 1 dedicated waitress for the meal. Each dish was paired with a wine, detailed explanations were given of the food and drinks for each course and the chef meets everyone at the end. Apparently the menu changes seasonally so we will be back.

We booked the tryst tasting menu on a friday night. We were very impressed with the quality, variation, level of service and price. The menu varied from fish to venison to partridge, caviar, cheeses and apple terrine. The pumpkin sorbet was a particular favourite of mine. Service was excellent with a dedicated waitress for the room. Each dish was paired with wine and a detailed explanation was given. It is clear a lot of thought has gone into the planning of the menu. It should be advertised more. Great value for money too.

Park Hotel. This would have been 5 stars but for the decidedly average 'superior' bedroom we were offered, and the decidedly average breakfasts. We refused the room (dingy, windows screwed shut; we need fresh air) and were given another, far, far better one. Plenty room for us to lounge about, room for our ebikes, excellent bed, lovely bathroom, welcoming G & T...so on. And the 6-course Tryst meal was magnificent. Relaxing, good wines, just superb food - every course. But the breakfasts did not live up to the billing of the Park Hotel. The sausages and bacon were obviously cooked at the beginning of service, and were hard and dry. Poached eggs the 1st morning were overcooked. We mentioned this, and the eggs were good the next day. Not so the sausage and bacon. Poor. The staff at the Park Hotel, esp the receptionist, were very good. But it is not possible to contact the hotel directly to discuss the finer details of booking. The Hydro's call centre is impersonal and does not offer good customer service. Poor

Can’t give a minus review but would do otherwise. Dropped in for lunch to the bar as we’d been here before. The masked young woman behind the bar could only be described as unwelcoming. We asked for lunch got told curtly “wait a minute “ she then went off to take an order from another diner. Came back completely ignored us whilst we stood there- no eye contact No friendly greeting and what I would describe as passive aggressive attitude- For example banging glasses and bottles on the tray -didn’t say could you sit at a table and I’ll bring you menus. My partner asked for us to sit down and got told aggressively to put her mask on. There were others dining at their tables with no masks. Decided to go to the cafe instead and another staff member in the corridor began shouting about masks- I had mine on, my partner was struggling to keep hers on as the loops had slipped. To the Manager/ Owner - So thanks for a great Peebles welcome it may make no difference to your business losing our custom but ask your self this - how many people don’t do a review and just leave to spend their money elsewhere because essentially this kind of unacceptable behaviour by your staff will ensure that this loss of business continues and you may well in these uncertain times have to close. Think about better supervision of your staff their rudeness and unprofessionalism is losing your business customers.

We were passing through Peebles today and saw the sign saying The Bakery was open for takeaway. We went in and were offered a good selection of hot drinks, breakfast rolls and cakes. All of the items we had were very tasty and the service from a friendly member of staff topped off an excellent visit. We were also able to sit in the garden and enjoy the nice views whilst enjoying our food. This was our first time here, but definitely won’t be our last.

I enjoyed a relaxing coffee and scone here on a Saturday afternoon. Despite being busy, it was still a lovely place to get a seat at a table and enjoy the sunshine. The coffee I ordered was very good, neither too strong, nor too cold. The scone was delicious - an ample amount of butter was provided and the scone was fresh and delicious. Most enjoyable.

A last minute decision to book a table and have a family meal together in Peebles, before we headed south back home to London. We had a fabulous meal, including some of the finest ingredients on offer in Peebles. We would definitely recommend it and are very much looking forward to going back for a second visit, next time we are in town.

The bar was completely empty on a Saturday lunchtime, that should have given us a clue! Despite empty bar the food service was very slow. Two ladies came in after us and their food arrived before ours. The burgers we ordered were nice but my own choice of chicken sandwich with curry and mango mayo was utterly tasteless, I opened it up and could see no trace of flavoured mayo, no taste of mango nor curry ! Sent it back, asked for prawn open sandwich instead. That was nicer. Ladies at other table sent their sandwich back as it had a hair in it. They also had the chicken sandwich and couldn't find flavour in it. Certainly not worth £8.50. The waiting staff were lovely. We are attracted to this bar as it is dog friendly but the food really isn't good value, don't think we will return. It's such a shame.

We visited here yesterday having booked a table for lunch. Dont book using web site as staff couldnt locate booking. On arrival place was almost empty, table was dirty and there was crumbs galore and chocolate cake on carpet. Tables round about had dirty cups and plates on them. After a long wait Anna the waitress took our order and an even longer wait was had before our food arrived. We had to chase this up.Despite the place being almost empty and 3 members of staff on duty, Anna and colleagues walked past tables several times without taking away dirty dishes, only when I asked her did she take them away, but did not clean the table. Anna is not to blame as another waitress who was on the heafty side and not a good advert for selling cakes. I think she was in charge and was only interested in talking to the other staff as I didnt see her doing any actual work. The chicken I ordered was tough and I think in hind sight was undercooked as I had to make several visits to the toilet afterwards. We used to be regulars at the Park but will certainly not be back.

Our room was basic and too cold, albeit dog friendly. But the food at dinner surprised us. It was outstanding, I had a piece of fish, cooked to perfection and my partner went for lamb, which she raved about. The hail fellow well met night manager was a star. Very much recommended.

Good food, reasonably priced. Interesting variety of foods overall (but basically burger/tortilla type meals for us vegetarians). Shame we couldn’t dine in the restaurant (this was reserved for breakfast diners only) - had to eat evening meal in the bar, outside (nice garden space) or on one of a few small tables in a brasserie type room. I would advise you book ahead for any larger groups or special meals.
