The Opposition Bistro in Stratford-on-Avon

We booked a table for lunch at 12:30pm on a Saturday , 4 people . We had 2 half bottles of wine , a coffee, Haddock Cake & Lasagne which were very tasty , total bill £100 . Nice cosy atmosphere and definitely would return

We were going to the theatre and the staff were aware. Excellent t service and the food was delicious. We are returning customers but friends, will be new customers because they were equally impressed. See you again soon.

Pre-theatre dinner was served promptly with good grace. Staff knew start time of play. A la carte steak for him, with starter and pud, 3 course set menu for me and drinks total £120.

First class lunch, great setting and amazing service

Long a favourite location for the dinner, two of the party were happy with the excellent value of the pre-theatre menu. One person was saddened by the addition of carrots and button mushrooms to the lasagna and the disappearance of the spinach pasta sheets. Lovely, helpful staff, efficient service, great ambience.

Excellent pretheatre venue. Staff are all very friendly and efficient: meals are served quickly to help us reach the theatre on time, yet you don't feel rushed. A good range of lovely, well presented meals to suit varied diets, even on the shorter fixed price menu. Although most covers are pairs or quadruplets I never feel out of place as a single.

We've been here several times and always have a great meal. The service is friendly and efficient, not too rushed and the atmosphere is relaxed.

It is 07:30 pm and a group of 20 people suddenly decide that they want dinner. This is not a reasonable request and I expected a polite refusal from Helen and Marta who were working hard at the Opposition. To my surprise they asked for 15 minutes to make some seating changes and by 07:45 pm we were sat in their back room. Professional and friendly service and lovely food followed. Thank you

We visited the Opposition after a Matinee performance at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre. A perfect way to celebrate a post Christmas treat. Great choice on the menu at very acceptable prices. Welcoming staff, prompt service, freshly prepared, piping hot. Thank you.

Always good, well priced food in a charming atmosphere. The friendly staff know exactly how to time things for theatre-goers and make the occasion seem unhurried, but very efficient.

We asked for an accessible table and received one - much appreciated, thanks. Great service, two attentive hosts, both of whom maintained their interest in us, even after we had paid the bill and tipped. Lovely food, well-cooked. As a vegetarian, I appreciated the choice of meals available. I wanted to ‘mix and match’ my dessert and it was done readily and smoothly. This is one of our ‘go to’ restaurants when we visit Stratford upon Avon and cannot recommend it highly enough.

Pre Theatre meal - I had the vegan butternut squash kedgeree, the husband had sea bass fillet- both were exemplary, great service- great experience all round 😃

I have never had a bad meal or time at the Opposition. The staff are attentive and for pre - theatre the food is provided quickly and efficiently leaving plenty of time to get to the RSC. If you want a quiet meal best go over after theatre goers have left but we have had an equally great time and food.

We have been dining at Oppo for many years and the food and service are consistently good. The staff are excellent.

My favourite place to eat in Stratford: the food is always excellent; the staff are friendly, efficient & get your meal sorted speedily(I’m always eating before going to the theatre); and it’s convenient to get to theatre. Also it’s usually possible to find a parking space in Sheep Street — what’s not to like!

We regularly visit The Oppo when we go to the theatre. Always very satisfied with the food and service - it's why we come back.

This was a really excellent pre-theatre meal. We were eating with old friends, one of whom had eaten at 'The Oppo' on many occasions. He, like us, was delighted at the meal and the fact that he felt the standard was as high as ever. Great food, served in plenty of time but not too quickly, really well cooked and hot, served on hot plates too. The restaurant was really busy (always a good sign!) and yet didn't feel crowded - in fact there was a really nice 'buzz'. All the staff were very attentive and friendly and it started our evening off in perfect fashion. Many thanks and see you again 😊

Second visit for my friend and I before a trip to the RSC. Staff are always so welcoming, friendly and engaging. We enjoyed the pheasant meal and the pork meal. We were forced into eating the most delicious panacotta with kirsch cherries. Delicious. If we had to be a little fussy we both would have preferred to have the gravy/ jus in jugs by the side as we both felt our plates were slightly‘swimming’. But we most certainly be back.

Love this little eatery and always visit before the evening theatre at the RSC. Staff are friendly and attentive. Food is fabulous and set menu offers great vfm. Plentiful selection of keenly price wines by glass carraffe and bottle. Banofee pie was SO amazing.

We were greeted immediately and shown to our table. Our orders were taken within a few minutes and service was efficient and in reasonable time. The food was delicious and correct temperature which made our experience very enjoyable. We have been there previously and have always found The Opposition satisfying. Thoroughly recommended.

We always go to the Opposition for a pre-theatre meal when visiting Stratford. It was as usual excellent the staff are friendly and efficient and we enjoy the experience.

We decided to stick with the set menu/ pre theatre however lots of tempting sounding options on main and specials board...succulent and tender venison in the bourginion...mum enjoyed the bream...lots of lobster sauce...more of a bisque. We tried the hazelnut parfait as something different and this was light enough to not sit too heavily during our theatre visit and rounded off the meal beautifully. Wines served at correct temperatures etc. All in all....Great ambience. Efficient and relaxed/ not rushed. Service polite and welcoming. Just what a bistro should be. Will def return if back in the area.

Excellent food with fantastic service! I wanted to try the banoffee pie but they’d just sold the last slice so had the eton mess instead which was AMAZING!! I mean we’ll have to come back to try the dessert I wanted but given how good it was, we’ll definitely return!

This is a reliably good quality restaurant where it is a pleasure to eat. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, the menu offers a good selection of well cooked food and the service is oustandingly good. The seating is comfortable and if you ask for a quiet table, you get a quiet table. We come to Stratford several times a year to go to the RSC and see friends who live in Stratford and we always book a dinner at The Opposition. It has never been anything but a pleasure to eat there.

We visited for a pre-theatre dinner so had limited time. The service was prompt, efficient and very pleasant. Fixed price and a la carte menu were both very good. Portions good, standard of the food was also very good. The restaurant was very busy and the tables quite close together so sometimes difficult to hear each other. But would certainly re-visit

Booked at 1pm for a light lunch and the food was really nice , 2 of us had the fish cakes which were very good . Definitely would return for lunch or dinner next time we are in the area

The whole experience was excellent. The food was excellent, especially the special white chocolate Panna Cotta with cherries in Kirsh.

Myself and 3 friends visited together. Lovely restaurant with a nice selection of meals to choose from on the menu. The service was really good. Staff were friendly and helpful. Alcohol or menu extras were not pushed on us which made a refreshing change. The atmosphere was warm and friendly. Not too quiet or too loud. Would certainly come again!

A very nice meal for four of us before attending the RSC. We ate from the menu of the day which was excellent value and very tasty. The gravadlax, sea bream, venison, white chocolate pannacotta dessert special and vanilla rice pudding were all delicious. We always receive a warm welcome and service is efficient but not rushed and we know that we will always make it to the performance on time. We are regulars who travel from Nottingham to the RSC and usually eat at The Opposition too.

We booked our table for 2 for the 4th December towards the end of October and were very surprised when we arrived that the server brought us to a small table which was the only table in the restaurant not set for dinner. It was located in a type of cubby hole in a front corner of the restaurant and I had to sit sideways to my wife. This male server was not welcoming in any way and as I was sitting sideways I had a full view of the restaurant and never saw him once smile of make any light conversation with any of the diners. A female server (sounded foreign) came to us a couple of times and she was delightful, the complete opposite to her male colleague. A walk in couple arrived about 40 minutes after us and were given a table that was set for 4,? The food and speed of service was very good and the low rating is all down to the male server.

We had a delicious lunch of Moules Frites with a basket of fresh bread. Everything about this restaurant is perfect and we make it a point to eat here whenever we're in the area.

We went to The Opposition before the theater. The staff were all very accommodating. The food was delicious.

Excellent food, beautiful old space, good service. Only slight grumble is two dishes came with appropriate vegetables but two you had to choose vegetables as extra sides but prices were much the same. Would have been nice to have vegtables included with all dishes perhaps with an option of which to have.

As previously experienced (every time we go to the theatre and eat there before the play - if an evening performance - or afterwards - if a matinee) The Opposition delivered a lovely meal yesterday, in a great setting with excellent service and good value (given the standard of all of the dishes delivered). Great buzzing atmosphere for pre-theatre dinner. Delicious gradvalax with horseradish cream followed by sea bass in a shellfish sauce. Could not fault the food or the service.

Enjoyed crab fish cake to start, rib eye steak for main and rice pudding to finish. All freshly prepared and well seasoned. I like my steak rare and it was cooked perfectly. For a Monday evening there was a pleasant atmosphere, not too loud or quiet with several tables occupied. Staff friendly and polite. Will definitely recommend to friends and family.

Stayed in Stratford for our wedding anniversary and ate out here after reading good reviews. The restaurant looks great from the outside and has an old style look that is Stratford. We went for the 3 course set menu. My husband enjoyed his starter, main and cheese, and biscuits. I had the soup, which was delicious, but unfortunately, my main was just sauce and hardly any fish. Maybe I should have asked for potatoes to go with it? I was tempted by the Eton mess, but adding the lemon curd and passion fruit was over sweet for me. My Pinot grigio was the best I've had for a long time. In all a pleasant experience ✨️

It is always pleasant to go to the OPPO. I go every month and have never had a meal that I have not enjoyed. The staff are friendly and efficient. I would recommend booking a table.
