A traditional British pub. Lovely, interesting decore. Friendly staff. Absolutely fantastic food!! Both my partner's and my starter, main and pudding were delicious, which is an inadequate description! If you're in the area, eat here, you won't be disappointed!

Very sad experience here. Had googled dog friendly pub when in betswycoed and it brought me here. Not dog friendly. Or human friendly tbh. Ordered drinks and told I need to sit outside with dog. Not a problem as nice day but then told they are closing at 3. Not aware of what time it was I just checked what time it was with her and she said 2.10 … so still thought not a problem. Humourlessly said would we be able to have deserts??? lol. No laughter. Just told I’d be able to finish my drinks but the doors would get locked. I’d would not recommend this place atall. Not very welcoming atall. Left the drinks on the bar and found a fabulous place along the A470. Tal y cafn. Amazing. Overly friendly. And very dog friendly!!!! So the bar girl did us a favour.

The food was delicious. I said it was the best Pie I've ever had. My wife got the lamb shoulder and that was delicious too. The veg was delicious, the cheese on the garlic bread delicious, the salad that came with it fresh and crunchy. Then dessert was lovely, I had Eton mess and my wife has sticky toffee pudding. My daughter ate her pasta, garlic bread and ice cream We sat outside and strolled to the stream whilst waiting on our food. The bar person was lovely and kind. Its fair to say we had a wonderful experience.

We spent 1 night in the village of Trefriw and spent some time in this Pub at the end of the day to drink a Guinness. Adorable waiter, always with a smile. We went back for the evening meal, the fish & chips and the delicious shoulder of lamb and what can we say about the apple dessert. In terms of atmosphere, it was very calm.

Had a burger and chips a couple weeks back and I can’t fault the burger, it was absolutely delicious, as was the coleslaw that came with it. The salad was strange as it was comprised of pickle, lettuce and peppers. The chips were terrible but that’s what I’d sometimes expect when going to a pub. The price was a bit on the expensive side at, but the burger makes it almost worth it. The desert wasn’t great, the brownie was very dry without much taste, though the ice cream was delicious, I had mint choc chip. The service is 100% top notch, can not fault it at all, staff members seem to be bilingual and very friendly and welcoming, always ready to lend a helping hand. The pub itself is very nice, and warm, and has a homely feel to it. The ladies toilets are also very clean and smell very nice. overall 4/5 would definitely recommend. apologies for the half eaten burger pic 😂

Lacked ambiance. Good decor and what looked like good food didn't make up for the poor service and scathing words from a head chef who didn't like us even though we were paying customers, she asked us to leave as she would rather see her locals enjoy themselves, whomever this person was. (Unsure because we didn't see them, maybe we had scared them away) Given other circumstances I'm sure I would have appreciated this pub a lot more but don't go if you are a group of men wishing to get a song going. If you want to be treated like an inconvenience and like terrible service this is the place for you! Very very rude manager/landlady! We politely called ahead prior to our booking, to say we were running 10 minutes late, after spending the day climbing Snowdon, and held up a little by buses. We were threatened with giving our large table away, in a very rude manor. Upon arrival (7 minutes after our booking time), we were told we had to order immediately (if the chef was even prepared to still cook for us), and then told we need to order, eat and give up our table by 8pm. Even if we had arrived at our booked time of 7pm, for a table of 9 people this wouldnt have been achievable! What was really strange was there were only 2 people eating in the restaurant! Clearly didnt want our custom, and dont value their customers! We decided at this point to leave and go elsewhere, we had a brilliant meal, and great service up the road at Maeban Abbey Hotel, highly recommend!

We queried this but even 15 minutes later no food for my better half and no proper apology. We left and went next door to Chandler's Brasserie where the food and service was much better. Some staff training is required at the pub and the landlady should be addressing issues and not neglecting customers.

I went to The old Ship with a friend for a long overdue special meal. At first everything was lovely our starter's arrived and was good. But when my main arrived, (I had ordered Lamb shoulder with dauphinoise potatoes) it was lamb but served with 3 tiny boiled potatoes. I specifically ordered the lamb because I love dauphinoise potatoes so decided to order it even though it was expensive. I went to the bar to explain that I only ordered the lamb because of the dauphinoise and that's not what I've been given. I was told to choose something else and would be given a refund for the difference. I thanked them and agreed. This is where things started to go wrong. The waiter then came back and said I couldn't have my new order and could only have the lamb (reheated) with mash, again I reluctantly said OK. Few minutes later I was told I couldn't have the lamb with mash potato unless I gave back my refund and paid the full £22.50. I would never have ordered lamb and mash for £22.50 I said I'd lost my appetite after accepting every alternative, to be finally told I had to pay full price for their mistake. They begrudgingly gave me a refund for my main but we asked to speak to the owner as we we're made to feel like it was our fault. The owner came out shouting at me and my friend and when I said that I'd been looking forward to my meal and would now probably just end up with cheese on toast at home, that's when the owner got personal and said "now come on, you've had a starter already, I think we all eat too much these days!" She shouted at myself and my friend from the second she came out to speak to us and at no point would she accept that it was her mistake and that I had been more accommodating accepting every alternative offered, except paying full price for something I hadn't and wouldn't have ordered in the first place. It completely ruined my evening and I felt very intimidated and was close to tears as I left. As we were walking away she shouted after us "Do you want to use my laptop to make the bad review on TripAdvisor?!?" At no point did she say sorry. I wasn't looking for any free drinks or food but an apology would have been the very least she could have given. I would never go there again!!!

This is a pretty pub that is very clean, has a nice beer garden and some interesting beers on draft. However it was really let down by the food. I totally agree with one of the reviews below that mentions it didn't match up to older reviews. The prices are high, nearer Central London prices. I totally understand businesses have been struggling with COVID and cost rises. But the portion sizes are very small for the price. The cheese board was extremely small for the price. It also came with 4 bog standard Carr's crackers and when we asked for a couple extra they said we would have to pay for more. I wish I had taken some photos but I didn't. Found a much better food pub that did home cooked food with amazing home made sausages and real hand cut chips in Llanrwst Road.

Shame we were rushing for the train otherwise would have stayed longer for other dishes and more drinks, even chill in the beer garden. But they were very helpful and gave us the fastest food option. Had fish and chips which came with good amount of tartare sauce and mushy peas. I had a lovely Snowdon Craft IPA. Both of which I forgot to photograph because we were thirsty from a weekend camp & hike and too hungry whilst rushing for the train. Love the decor and pictures dotted around. Definitely felt the 'Snowdonia Surcharge' here. Yes, we are all suffering horrendous inflation but that doesn't justify charging £15 for a primary school lunch sized portion of flaccid fish and chips and £9 for a cheese board which consisted of a few small ends of whatever was left in the fridge. We left hungry and disappointed.

Staff were nice. Was recommended to us but will not be returning 😫 had 2 plates of garlic bread - 1 was burnt and the other not cooked at all! The mains were slow but not worth the wait as my chicken breast was microwaved so much you could not eat the outside and had to scrape the meat from inside! The pie's crust was burnt so had to be left. It was only the veggie lasagne that was finished but again said that it would not be ordered again! I had a bad tummy that evening after that meal. 🥵

The reasons for the changes in menu were apologetically explained in a welcoming board. This is not the first business I have seen with staff availability issues.
