The Old Oak in Camden

First of all, I was travelling long, quite long distance on this day. I did have to leave my overground journey because I had to use the bathroom really really bad. First time in my life when this happened. I did go to this pub just outside the station and was asked by security guys why I wanted to enter the premises. I was polite and tried to explain that I really need to use a bathroom as there are none around. Another security member chipped in the conversation and said that they are in charge and there is no way I could use one. I tried to explain still in a calm manner that I really need to go and they both just shut me down saying that there is one in the train station. I did ask why not, as I'm not drunk, disorderly or being rude. They said if I'm not a paying customer it is not possible. I did ask what if I would be buying a drink? The person in charge told me that I quote " it is busy and till the time you get a drink you will wet yourself". This was an inhumane and humiliating treatment. To leave a fellow human being to wet themselves in London in this day and age is something I do not want anyone to go through. The station did not have any toilets and the person in the booth said that the pub keeps sending people to them knowing that the one they have is out of order. Maybe the reason behind their actions was the fact that I'm a white male? I would never recommend a place where people are being treated worse than animals.

My brother and I got off the Tube on the Gospel Oak station as he needed to go to the toilet to a point where he barely held on. We saw this pub across the road and thought we go in there so he can relieve himself, was more than happy to buy a drink if asked to. The staff on the door immediately stopped us and asked as about our intentions which we told them about. They were hostile from the get go and told us it's not possible since it's busy. We told them we are happy to buy a drink to what they answer was -paraphrasing here- "since it's busy, by the time you order a drink you will wet yourself, so no you can't come in" Disgusting behaviour. Unprofessional and they seemed to have a chip on their shoulder since both of us are white males. I have been working in this industry -running restaurants- for 13 years now. Never in my life I have ever refused a customer or non customer to use the bathroom especially if they looked desperate. Shame on you and the two employees wearing black shirts on the door.

Passed by the old oak this evening. Great atmosphere and lovely staff that made me feel very welcome. Would definitely recommend and visit in the near future.

Came here because the little gem was recommended by a friend. The general manager (Dave) was very keen to get to know new customers, as well as still engaging with what I assume are the regulars. Probably the cheapest pub I’ve been in whilst in London! And definitely a one of a kind pub, finding these gems are 1 in a million! Definitely worth going that bit further when you’re in the area and stopping by for a drink.

Aggressive, confrontational and extremely rude. The manager is a racist - got in my face and blocked me physically from using the toilet.

If you’re going to make your toilets customer only and make me pay to use them, the least you can do is clean them. Sanitary bins clearly not been emptied in weeks, flies everywhere. Grim af

Old school boozer with affordable drinks. The place has a community vibe, a dying breed these days unfortunately. Shows all major sporting events a hidden gem.

Went in to ask if I could get my bottle filled up with water. The guy said they were serving paying customers only and that I could go next door and buy one. Told him I was just trying to save wasting a plastic bottle. He told me that wasn’t his problem. Plastic waste should be everyones problem. Otherwise seems like a nice place. Loses 2 stars because of the rude man at the bar.

A simple local boozer offering competitively priced keg beers and Doombar on cask. A quiet start for the day, me the only customer. There is a pool table and a number of big screens for the sporty types.

Local pub good range of beers, sky tv, reasonable service.

If I could give zero I would, tired to buy drinks and wouldn't let us the toilets until we had the drinks poured, we were literally trying to buy drinks and got shouted out of the pub. We were ready for a wild night out! Went to the South Hampton Arms instead and it was so much better!

Authentic community pub. Regulars of all ages and great service.

Abusive and aggressive staff! Awful experience. It's really not worth it to go to this place - especially if you are a woman

The Guniess is so on point, nice n smooth no bitter taste u get from uncleaned pipes, landlord Dave n Conner are a bit OCD with pipe cleaning which is a good thing.

Proper old skool pub. Great selection of Lagers and ciders. Really welcoming.

Some of the best kept lager I’ve ever had and prices are still reasonable for London. Some of the clientele is a bit dubious but adds to the character of the place

While passing by, we witnessed the staff getting out of the back door and physically attacking someone behind the pub. We found it really unacceptable as the person was on the ground in pain - not sure what was the context but this was fully unacceptable. Definitely a place to avoid!

Witnessed staff being abusive (multiple of them) towards a man outside the back of the pub while walking by. Never is it acceptable for staff of a place to behave that way no matter the context (I’m not aware of it) - the person was left in pain on the floor in the road while the staff shouted abuse - disgusting, avoid establishment at all costs!

Very rude staff. Much better pubs around the area with friendlier folks.

Live sport and great atmosphere

Small pub full of locals, always showing sports and drinks are very reasonably priced

Very friendly locals and bar staff, for human and canine customers. Volume on TV sports was muted when I came on a weeknight and minor teams were playing. No idea if they turn it up otherwise.

Good value, friendly pub. Often come here after swimming on the Heath. There are a few tables outside as well.

Full of character and very small with the residential locals. Good for a quick stop refresh and purchase a drink. Can be loud and there is a sports screen but not much space. They serve a small menu and it is affordable.

Great bar service from the main woman in charge Rachel. What a nice place. Feel really welcomed.

Lovely proper local pub with very fair prices and a friendly atmosphere. We have not been to this pub for years but it certainly has improved massively and the new staff seem have got the pub on the right track. The pub had very good COVID measures in place which was also good to see.

Good spot for a pint after a walk on Hampstead Heath, conveniently located across from Gospel Oak tube station. Decent priced beers, it's definitely not a hipster place with a zillion overpriced craft ales, but for what it is it does the job well. Bit of a locals pub with lots of regulars, but pretty friendly vibe all round.

Little pub far away from London, the old Oak inn is for the local costumers busy all the time.

Don’t go there not child friendly don’t let teenagers in with you or to sit outside on the public pavement

Lovely pub. Great to visit on a warm day after a trip to the heath.

Now under new management and it has had a facelift. The decor is bright and airy and the staff and punters friendly but the beer selection is poor. The owners purport to be Craft Union Pub Co but, sadly, the most craft you get in there is Stella or Coors. Come on guys, let's have some non-standard beers in there and I'll be a regular!
