One of the finest Indian Restaurants in east anglia and the best place to eat in Saffron Walden. Great Staff and great service.

Although the food was nice , we were only brought one starter when we ordered two. It was very busy and we felt like we were being rushed to eat quickly and leave so they could re use the table . Everything just felt rushed. Wouldn’t go back .

We ordered on line for delivery whilst on a weekend break. Our hosts recommended The Mogul. Very comprehensive menu. Our delivery was prompt and friendly and the food was reasonably hot. Curries could have been more flavoursome and a little more generous. However we all enjoyed our choices. The saag paneer was really good! Worth trying.

Lamb briyani was very bad in taste. And was not fresh cooked.

Sad to say this was a disappointing take-away dinner. A varied order but meats were dry and sauces bland and basic. Biryani was greasy and apart from the naan it did not taste fresh or authentic.

There were 7 of us eating tonight. We all agreed, the place, the staff, and especially the food was excellent. We will definitely go again and again.....

Went on a Friday, VERY busy and loud. Food did take quite a time to come ( we hadn’t ordered starters & they were doing quite a few takeaways) But the food is great, really delicious. We normally get a takeaway - Love this Indian

Food is outstanding, and the staff are friendly and attentive.

Slightly generic food but well prepared, great atmosphere and attentive if a bit slow service. Beautiful ancient historic building. Try your book a table downstairs- it’s very cosy. Easily the best Indian restaurant in Saffron Walden central location and good value

The food is okay and prices are good for Saffron Walden. Closest parking is on the street outside after 1800, or the Common or Swan Meadow.

Tasteless, cold, poor quality ingredients. Won’t be ordering again. Keema naan had no lamb in it. Saag aloo was tasteless - no seasoning, no spice. Rice was over cooked. Samosas were tiny. Chicken tikka masala was passable and more expensive than elsewhere. Everything was stone cold and I waited 1hr and 15 mins for it, despite living a 2 minute drive away.

Went for dinner here tonight with my family and everything was 10/10. The service from all staff was friendly, helpful and efficient. All the food was extremely good, very flavourful and all came very hot. We were also given an extra dish from the chef’s specials which was hugely appreciated as it was delicious. Would definitely recommend!

This was the first time returning to The Mogul in many years, amidst mixed reviews. The staff were welcoming, however we were pretty much forgotten about once our food order was taken, aside from topping up drinks.. Our party of 5 were all shocked at how long our food took to arrive. From ordering, our main meals took 1hr 40m to be served!! During this time multiple tables were served/had finished and left, including a table larger than ours who arrived after us! After the meal I then needed to find a member of staff to request a bill, as nobody was paying attention to our table. Needless to say we skipped the service charge. Overall the food was decent (aside from the dahl, which seemed to be the dregs and mostly liquid) but the service and wait times were unacceptable. I can’t see myself returning any time soon after this experience.

My first time there and it was fantastic.

We go here everytime we are in Saffron Walden visiting family. We love it, we love Sammy, best Indian Food in the area. Best place for a peshwari naan by a country mile. Service with a joke and a smile always, great bunch of lads. All the reviews moaning about nit picky things are probably in the Karen elite club.

They very kindly kept the kitchen open for us as we were running terribly late! Food was absolutely delicious..would like to come back when we are less rushed?

It was comfy enough and the food edible apart from a very hastily thrown together salad and very red chutney. The service had long pauses due them allocating tables to a particular waiter while other waiters else swanned around .very dark route to toilet dirty and rusty bin give this a miss if you can unless want a Bit budget

Horrible experience for all of us and we were 15 of us.They put sugar in almost all the dishes ...even on Naan.Who puts sugar on naan??? Rogan Josh was tomato curry with few pcs of mutton in it.And they did not even know which part of India Rogan Josh belongs to.... This place is an insult to Indian cuisine...Never again to this restaurant.

The Mogul was one of the best Indians I've ever had hands down. Enjoyed everything nice and fresh & piping hot!

Friendly, efficient service and very good value, high quality food on our first visit to The Mogul. We'd be very pleased to return when next in Saffron Walden.

Go anywhere else!! First time ordering and will never order again. £70 of BLAND, overly sweet, no spice, cold disappointment! The sauce tastes like it’s store bought with a ton of sugar added. No tikka flavouring the only nice part was the mushroom rice. You’d be better off getting a ready meal from the shops.

We were a family of four adults . Two of us ordered the flaming dishes from the chefs specials .... Wow ! They were spectacular in both presentations and taste ! I had the fish , it. Was fabulous! The experience from start to finish could not be faulted .... Perfect service , not rushed but not left waiting .. food , can't fault it , wine - went down well .... And prices fair. One negative it's an hour and a half from my home !!!

The chicken korma was underwhelming and excessively sugary - the nan bread and sides were better . Overall well short of the normal 4 stars

Good atmosphere, good food, reasonable prices, very pleasant and efficient staff - what more could you want? A more attractive dining room, that's what. The decor is weird - an old building with beams, everything smothered in badly applied plaster and (off) white paint. It was also cramped to the point of being a little uncomfortable, but on the positive side that is a result of the place being so popular they have to squeeze everyone in. Would go again.

As usual, cracking good service and tasty food, slightly let down by the 3 prawns in my king prawn masala. I know things are tough guys, but please don't start making our portions smaller, we do notice.

The Mogul is hands down the best Indian restaurant I've ever visited. The food seems to get better everytime we visit and the service is always wonderful. You are really made to feel welcome. We try to visit at least every couple of months if possible.

We made a booking for 19.08 and they emailed us back to confirm. We arrived about 5 mins early but there was no one at the door, we had never been here before, so we waited a while and had to ask another customer who arrived where to go. She was surprised no one was at the door and said normally someone was. The waiting area is totally separate to the restaurant so we couldn't see the desk and no one could see us. We followed the other customer down to the front desk, we told them we'd booked a table etc. They told us to go to the waiting bit and they will get us in a couple of minutes. 10 mins later they said a few more minutes. 10 more minutes to by and a pair of elderly gentlemen arrived and said in front of us "oh dear it's busy have you booked a table"... "Of course" he said. They got a table right away meanwhile we had been waiting over 20 minutes. Right after the elderly gentlemen were given our table a waiter comes out to the waiting room and says "I'll get you another table, we need a few more minutes" by this point we're fuming and I said "shall we go else where it's been 20 minutes I'm getting really annoyed now" so we got up to leave. The waiter puts his arm on the door to physically block me from opening the door and wouldn't move. He physically attempted to stop us leaving... His arm totally blocked our path and we couldn't leave he said "no no I'll get you a table now". (If getting us a table was that easy why did we have to wait over 20 minutes?) At this point I got a bit scared because I felt trapped and shouted "I'm not giving you any of our money, I'll write a review"... I shouted in the hope it would attract some attention and he would have to let us leave. He panics and moves his arm. I have never been treated this badly at any restaurant before and then a member of staff forcibly attempts to stop us leaving... Very surprised we left feeling shaken up. I will be writing a formal complaint to the restaurant.

So glad they are offering delivery now, must keep it after lockdown. By far the best Indian around Saffron Walden. This place is actually my favourite indian anywhere, portions are massive and prices are cheap. If they continue to do delivery I will never order from anywhere else again. As you can't seem to leave more than 1 review on Google I'll edit this old 1. Went again after moving away years later. Wow food still just as amazing me and 2 others had 3 different starters and 3 different mains ro share, Chicken Tikka Massala but Madrad hot and the trout with spinach was amazing.

Cosy warm atmosphere, beautifully cooked fresh Indian food, friendly staff

Having been recommended to eat here I had high expectations, however the experience didn't match the hype. We waited a while to be seated, we were then taken downstairs to a cold dingy cellar part of the restaurant. The seating worn and frayed, the decor very tired. We ordered our food, having arrived at 7.30pm, but our food didn't arrive until 8.50pm. The food was good, but not excellent. I appreciate the restaurant was busy, however I like to be given the choice as to whether I'm prepared to wait an hour and twenty minutes before getting my food. The waiters weren't often seen in that section of the restaurant, so the service sadly lacking. 4 stars for food 1 star for service 1 star for ambiance 2 stars overall

Nice restaurant that serves great food in decent portions. The staff are polite and professional. It's also good for large groups. It's been around in the town for a while and has stood the test of time.

Our first order, very disappointed. The food was barely warm , you can’t go wrong with a tikka starter but it was cold and dry. The chefs meat special was like a soup. Not impressed and won’t order again

Was mid at best, the naan was top tier and korma was acceptable or good at best, with healthy portion to price ratio it deserves three stars. My boys ordered the butter chicken and persistently complained about the sweetness of the meal. Although I cannot fault service or staff I will not be ordering the butter chicken again.

What can I say after 4 weeks of being in saffron walden, we have finally found a wonderful indian restaurant the mogul. The welcome was excellent we felt like family, the food was amazing I will definitely be back again and will bring all my friends. This was a real find and I can't wait to try it again.

Stopped off on the way back from London and decided Indian was the way to go, found this little gem by accident. Guys were very friendly, the food was extremely tasty and the price is very much on point.

Stumbled across The Mogul on the way back home and we’re so happy we did. The food was delicious, the staff were friendly and the pricing was great! Will definitely make sure we come back next time we are around that way!

Ordered takeaway.dissapointed now living in saffron Walden .remember coming here with a friend was amazing food .while my takeaway .lacked freshness . small amount of chicken for my garlic tikka Madras .and tarka Dal was watery like soup and keema nan uninspiring !

Prices are very fair and it's a lovely calm atmosphere 😊 Really do rate this place, Brilliant for a party or people or just a date night. Had a chicken curry delivered, chicken was very dry, and basically the sauce was full of oil, bland and tasteless, absolute waste of money. AWFUL

Arrived and waiting for our booked table, the ‘host’ ignored us and seated another couple that arrived after us first. He then returned and by pointing his finger at us directed us to the table in the dingy corner under the stairs which is easily the worst they have. The food took an hour! Some of the food was cold, Coke was warm and flat and the food was bland and disappointing by all other Asian restaurants standards we’ve come across before. Would not go back and would not recommend.

This place is a really nice place looks really small on the outside but really spacious inside, food was really tasty and very reasonably priced, very happy and would go again

Yesterday a fabulous take away meal from the Mogul ,, and we tried the Chef Special King Prawn as well as our usual ! It was delivered very quickly , the secret being order early before they get busy ... Everything was just yummy! Thank you Shamie and Dulon 🙂

I was very impressed by the quality of the food and I was also impressed how reasonably priced the food was and it was a really nice atmosphere in the restaurant and would certainly go to The Mogul again

Excellent, lovely fresh tasting food.

Compared with previous visits over the years this one was disappointing. Place was busy on a Thursday evening, and although the service was adequate, the food was disappointing. I hope that standards are not being allowed to slip now this appears to be Saffron Walden’s...

Took us in at half 9 at night and still got a delicious meal. The king prawn biryani was delicious (I asked for a more traditional taste and they delivered). The garlic naan was the best we've had in a long time. Thank you.

I have used the Mogul for many years and it has been good. I had a takeaway last week and it was very poor flavourless, watered-down, the Tarka Dahl was like water. I emailed the restaurant expressing my view and have not had any reply. Will not be using the restaurant again and suggested who ever reads this dose the same.

Everyone has their favourite Indian restaurant so I won’t say that this is the best in the Saffron Walden area, but it’s certainly my first choice. The food is consistently delicious, the staff are really friendly, and since the pandemic they have offered a delivery...

Really disappointing. I travel around the country a lot and go to lots of different curry houses, we paid £70 for the same amount of food we'd normally pay £40-45 for, including a £5 delivery charge for being only 6 miles away. Anyway they forgot one of our dishes, gave us no poppadoms, the dishes were the smallest I've ever seen and it was all quite watered down and flavourless. Plus we only got two onion bhajis when you normally get four. We phoned to tell them about the forgotten dish but they seemed to have no interest in rectifying the other issues. Really disappointed and feel like we paid far too much money for a mediocre curry with bad service.
