The Midland Tapas & Wine Bar in Conwy

I wish I had read the reviews before visiting - we could have avoided an expensive mistake. Poor food, brought out at random times (one arriving well after we had finished everything else and only after several reminders). Food was lukewarm and bore little resemblance to description in the menu, the ox cheek was particularly bad. We would have complained whilst there, but the chefs were too busy swearing and shouting to get their attention, and I did not feel it was fair to complain to waiting on staff who were working hard. With so many nice places to eat locally, we would not return here.

This is our 3rd visit since it opened and has gone down hill sadly, went on a Saturday night was empty so sad to see but once our food arrived we knew why The paella just tasted of curry powered and we sent the prawns back as where still grey. The worse part was the temperature we all sat with jackets and scarfs. But to end on a positive we was served by lovely staff good wine coffee ( too keep warm ) excellent porn stars I do think the owns need to look into this place as it’s a shame was fabulous when 1st opened

We visited on a Friday lunchtime and tapas is our favourite food and this tapas was absolutely delicious. Great portion sizes and a great menu. The waiter was very friendly. I will definitely recommend and return.

Paella was awful other dishes we had were edible but that is all that can be said. Porn star martini was very good and wine was ok. Food came out in dribs and drabs some dishes went to the wrong table For what you got the food was extortionate prices. I seriously don’t know how this place is still going. I will never go again!

Visited as a group of 5 work colleagues. Plenty of food to choose from off the menu. Friendly service by the French front of house man. We tried various items off the menu and it all arrived hot and tasty. Good service. No complaints. Nice, modern and clean toilets.

Like the title states … AVOID! Unless you like dry, beige, bland overpriced food of course! After a lovely day exploring Conwy we were like ravenous animals .. absolutely starving! So after a bit of research, we came across this establishment and booked ourselves a table … bad move! We ordered five dishes in total, and the best thing I can say about them was … it was some form of food. The Mac and cheese was bone dry, I’m sure it had a sauce at some point but by the time we received it it was crumbling… like it had been left for a few days. Do not order the straw fries… whatever size you have in your mind a straw fry is… believe me it’s not… maybe they should name them a grass fry.. and that’s pushing it. Now the price was the most shocking of the whole experience .. we are still shaking and reeling as I type! We are now heading to Aldi to sort ourselves out as we are still ravenous animals! P.s absolutely lovely waitress

We ate here twice during our weeks stay in Conwy. The first time food was good, the meals came out a couple at a time but we didn’t mind that. I did order a glass of wine and 20 mins later when it had not arrived I told the waiter who was apologetic, went to fetch the wine straight away and didn’t charge me for it. The second visit wasn’t so good. When our dishes came out one was wrong and the one I did order never came out. When we checked on the missing dish we were told the wrong dish that came out was what I got instead of that one, I asked if they could make me the original dish (chicken tenders) and was told no the wait would be too long. Instead they asked me to pick something that was quick like olives or humous. Not ideal when the tenders were mostly my main dish. I explained I was gluten free so couldn’t have certain dishes which then I was offered the paella as I was told it could be whipped up in minutes. I had the paella a few nights before and wasn’t that impressed but agreed to have it so that I didn’t go hungry. No one comes to check on you during your meal to see if anything is missing/ok or to see if you would like anymore drinks. It is quite expensive at between £7 and £10 per dish. The waiter kindly didn’t charge me for the paella or the dishes that were wrong, however I had not had the meal I wanted. Even with the free dishes our bill still came to over £85. We only had two alcoholic drinks and two fruit juices for the children

I am a local and live in Conwy, and still have heard mixed reviews. I have been once before but this service from last night has sealed the deal to never go again. We had a table booked for 7.30 for 5 of us. We arrived at twenty past, and were lead to our table. Firstly no cutlery or drink menus. We had to ask for our food and drinks to be ordered after another 20 minutes. (A table next to us had come in after us and already had their order taken). We then had to ask for cutlery when our food came out. Then our food came out all at different times, with huge gaps in between. Service was appalling - not once did anyone give us any eye contact or see if we wanted any more drunks etc. However there was a young boy working there who did his best to help us when we finally managed to get his attention. We finally finished our meal, and we were still waiting for 2 dishes that hadn't yet come. We asked for the bill and then had to ask for these to be removed. There was 5 of us so we had 10 dishes bought out, not once was our table cleared although we did our best to stack as neatly as possible - in the end there was hardly any room. As a local, I won't be coming again and feel like the people who were just drinking at the bar got more attention. After spending over £150 between us we expected a much better experience than we received. It is Bank Holiday weekend so don't know if they were understaffed or just completely unorganised. Definitely wouldn't recommend and we won't be coming back. Disappointed

Food was nice but service very slow. We waited about 10 minutes at the door to be seated even though we had a reservation. Waited 45 minutes from arriving to finally getting our drinks. Food came out a bit at a time with 2 dishes not arriving until we had finished everything else. Such a shame as this would deter me from recommending or visiting again. More staff needed to make sure people are offered better service as meals are quite pricey

Lovely food and the patatas bravas was the best one I've had in a long long time. We ordered 10 tapas dishes, and only one disappointed, the chicken wings , as they were a little dry. The pork belly was delicious, as was the calamari. Only issues that shaved marks off were the fact they didn't sell wine by the glass, which being a tapas restaurant, you would expect; and we had a rather noisy group sat next to us. Overall, I would go back for the food

This is such a weird place. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. The menu sounds amazing, but hype is the best thing about this restaurant. Service is rubbish, not sure if they’re not trained, have insufficient capacity or just incapable. Food comes sporadically. For example it would be much better if nachos came first, not last. Our meals came out over a 40 min period. During this time our table was never cleared and we were never offered any drinks. We just sat surrounded by a lot of bowls plates and empty bottles. Food was not bad but not brilliant, and the time it took, and the order it came out, was odd. I cleared and cleaned our table by moving things onto a nearby table. We took our kids and to be fair, they really enjoyed the churros and waffles as dessert. That’s why I’m giving this place a couple of stars.

Well. What a time at The Midlands Street Cafe. Before I start this review, it would only be fair to give a grand shout out to possibly the worlds worst waitress, who would probably make a better living working at a Karen’s diner. When asked if one of the dishes contained nuts (one of the party had a peanut allergy) she responded with a sulky “I don’t know”. When we pleaded with her to check, she looked absolutely dumb founded. We had to ask a second time for confirmation on which nuts it contained. We would have probably received better service at faulty towers. Once we had got through the most piss poor salad that featured salad leaves swimming in mayonnaise and regret, and a pot of hummus (with no bread) that luckily didn’t send my friend to a and e due to a severe (but not that important) nut allergy, the gwoat (greatest waitress of all time) finally brought us our drinks. We especially enjoyed paying for the meal, after begging the gwoat to finally come over. She brought the bill (£27.00 for the smallest morsels of food which would most likely leave a mouse starving) and put the card reader in front of us without saying a word. It was like trying to make contact with your teenage daughter at the dinner table. The evening wouldn’t be complete without a trip to the spar on your way home, as you will probably need a meal deal to fill the empty feeling in your stomach and soul. (We had a really nice chicken sandwich may I add, only cost £3) If you love being ripped off, nearly killed by allergies and fantastic customer service, don’t hesitate have your good money stolen at The Midland StreetCafe.

Thought this Tapas bar and restaurant was very good. I had the three for £18 … with the peppers, straw fries and the fish cake… I thought it was excellent … particularly liked the straw fries. The service was excellent … there were nine of us, with some very hard to please people amongst us :-) … they started us with free bread which was very gratefully received… the service was excellent … it would have been five stars if it was a little cheaper… that said everything is expensive these days … thank you for a lovely experience
