The Merchant Bistro in Newry and Mourne

Hit and miss, during the week, some of the food is lovely, Sundays is a disaster, not good this past few times, staff are lovely, do their best, run of their feet at times, but need to improve on the food, and brighten up the decor, to drab.

Placed an order but forgot to say no onions, tried ringing them ,no answer so placed another order and left a message about the onions ,both orders came together but I was charged for 2 deliveries, Plain chicken burger came smothered in coleslaw and chips and drink missing ,don't expect chicken breast, I don't know what it was but definitely wasn't chicken breast it was disgusting, so I ended up paying 32.90 for 2 burger a chip and drink

Ordered tacos and partner ordered burger chips. Arrived cold could eat some of it tasty minus the long dark hair. Food hygiene rating? Just eat or never eat

I did not visit the restaurant but have had a lovely breakfast several times. Yesterday I ordered 'The Merchant Steak' which was tough I ordered this with peppered saw which should have been delivered in a separate container as I didn't like that it had been poured over the chips. I also ordered a portion of sausages which I didn't get the restaurant closes at 4pm my food was delivered at approximately 3.15 as requested. I am still waiting for the sausages

Called in for tea this evening. In 15 minutes we were passed by staff on several occasions, not once were we acknowledged. Place was not busy. Even if someone had approached table and said our order would be taken shortly, but no,staff completly oblivious to customers. Would not recommend to anyone.

Great service, Just a pity the food was not up to standard, Chips were so salty could not be eaten, left with a lot of food to bring home for my dogs, almost £100 will not be back

The food is delicious. I had fried noodles with chicken. Huge portion and came with a spicy chilli dip. Service is friendly and great. I don't think a lot of people know about this place, but well worth a visit. £19 for 4 of us. Can't recommend it enough. My only negative is that it's only open during the day.

Never knew it was here. Friendly lady server. I just took carrot soup and crusty roll. A bit thin but tasty and healthy. This place is chinese owned and is part of a shop,but has a separate entrance. Reasonable prices. I will call again.

Went with 2 friends for lunch and decided to sit upstairs. It was one of the coldest days of the year and there was no heat whatsoever and we were unable to take our coats off! Scrambled egg was like cardboard also - too well cooked! Unfortunately nothing to entice us back!

Found this restaurant on Monday and decided to have lunch. It was very good. Mum had the burger and chips and I went for the warm goats salad. Then we shared. The dressing on the salad was lovely. Everything about the meal was tasty. We will be back .

Highly recommended Great food and friendly staff. Nice relaxing decor overlooking newry canal.Very good variety on the menu
