The Lucas Fish Bar in Newham

First experience of fish and chips came from here as it was close to the ExCeL but most of the places inside it have terrible reviews. Great service, friendly lady on the counter and the food was great. Crisp, tasty cod and a generous amount of soft, well cooked chips. Two boxes and a drink came to just £22. Most places in London charge almost 20 for 1 plate so it's definitely worth it if you're in the area or want to venture out to experience something more authentic. I would just point out that there's nowhere to sit in the store or around it, so you have to walk to the park across the ExCeL to eat comfortably.

Had the cod and chips nice white deep thick cut fish and great traditional crunchy batter will be buying again.Fair price👍👌

Super friendly service. Ordered a bulk office lunch for collection. It was ready on time, piping hot and the Cod&Chips, Pie&Mash&Liquor, Fried Chicken & Chips were top nosh :) Will definitely order again.

Our 1st meal (also 1st time) in London started off GREAT, the fish and chips was good, but more importantly, owner Peter helped us at the next door laundromat as we had a week of dirty clothes to clean. Peter came over several times to make sure we were able to work machines and he also engaged us in good conversation about the UK and his interest in USA.

They don't even look at me for 10 lonh minutes. Don't go there if you are not local they dont serve you.

I ordered Cod and Chips twice I wondered what all the fuss was about by reading the past reviews, And I can say those guys weren't kidding...the taste was out of this world the Chips perfect the Cod perfect the staff perfect, the Price perfect. I wished I'd come here before worth going by car as I'm in Plaistow not that far but there are fish shops nearby but they are not good at all.. Staff so friendly I loved it there A1 Class to this shop..

Avoid!! They never serve you, leave you like a dinlo. Staff make comment and faces at you. Very rude!

Popped in for some chips after a long day at the Excel centre. Was quicker to walk than take the bus. Alas they didn't have any rock that day but the sausage in batter with chips was a decent 2nd prize! Quicker to eat your chips on walk back to Canning Town station rather than wait for bus - the 300 literally goes round the houses / town. If I was back in the area I would come back.

Lived in the area for over 13 years but first time to have fish and chips from this place and I'm glad to say, we will definitely return 👍. Great portions and good food. Service was really nice as well!

I placed a large order in the week as part of a celebration with my work colleagues 🥈🚑. The Staff (Pete and the team) delivered everything I ordered perfectly, they did not miss a single item, and there were lot of them. The food was ready exactly on time, piping hot and the taste, portion size and quality of the food was absolutely spot on, many of my colleagues said it was the best fish and chips that they’d ever had, I have to agree with that, it’s was amazing, Thank you very much for looking us so well, from me personally, and from my colleagues of the London Ambulance Service……….🚑🚑🚑.

My family (from Nova Scotia) ate here in 2010, it was absolutely brilliant and then we walked to a Hammers game. Great to see this shop is doing so very well and hopefully Peter still runs it

Second night I’ve visited after 16 years since having fish & chips… 1st nite 6 Nov 2023 had Plaice & chips huge portion took two attempts but was amazing along with steak n kidney pie. 10/10 Next night visited for 3x fish dinners 1) Skate & chip 2) Cod & chips 3) Haddock & chips all three patrons said 10/10. Haven't had fish and chips for awhile so decided to try new location and it seems abit rundown from the outside. Freshly fried fish and chips, tried one of their homemade mince beef pie very nice.

Fish was very lovely, crispy batter, fresh and flakey white cod. Good selection of food available. Chips ok. Service needs work, a little slow for a Wednesday evening. Card machine wasn't working either. No local cash points without charge.

Food portion for the price is awesome! Great tasting and freshly made. The staff, especially Peter, were very friendly and welcoming. Will definitely be back any time I visit London.

Supposedly a top rated fish and chips location. Just a hole in the wall. Fish looked delicious but had a bit too much breading. The chips were not as hot as they should have been. No napkins nor forks offered. Would not return.

The best fish and chip shop in this area :) The cod fish and roes taste very good because they are very fresh :) I have been their customer since 2020 when I just moved to this area :) Although moving a couple of places in this area, I still cycle to get cod fish and roes these days :)

Awesome experience. In town for a conference from the United States, and loved this spot. Way better than any of the food near ExCel, and awesome service. Had a great chat with the staff inside while we waited for our Uber! Great food, great experience, definitely will come again next time we are in town

Amazing family owned (since 1932!) fish and chips place! Can’t recommended this place enough! Short stroll from the Excel center and is way better and more inexpensive than any place in the area! Portion size is amazing and will fill anyone and you have to try their onion flavored vinegar. Get some real fresh fish and chips from here you won’t regret it. Real people real food great experience.

Based on a recommendation, we went to this fish and chips bar. The owners are really nice. The chef took us into his kitchen and showed us how he prepares his fish and chips. Everything is handmade and freshly prepared. They do not use frozen products. Accordingly, the fish and chips were fantastic. To all tourists who are in the area, visit this takeaway and support these nice people. We will be back next winter.

Proper British Fish & Chip Shop. Good food, well cooked and plenty of choice

I popped into the Fish Bar for the first time on way to an event at Newham Leisure CENTRE 18/01/23. Ordered Half Roast Chicken and Chips. Chicken was great value (certainly full up afterwards!) and the Chips were awesome, crisp and fluffy potato inside. 10 times better than any chip shop around where I live in Hertfordshire. Keep up the good standards, well done 👏

Excellent food. Cod and chips were tasty and authentic. The cod was thick and meaty and not too much batter. No crusty rolls, but only soft rolls are available. I then asked the owner if he could do anything. He then went out of his way and toasted the rolls instead. Which I thought was exceeding customer expectations. Would definitely come here again. Just two seats and a table. It is more take away then eat in to be honest. Unfortunately, it was so tasty that I could not think of taking an image.

Mrs is pregnant and was craving some authentic fish and chips. We looked online and lucas fish bar had the best reviews and rightly so the fish and chips were made fresh and separate from other foods as we can only eat halal the staff and chef were friendly. The food was delicious. Thanks for a lovely dinner.

Shame they don't deliver, we went here a few years ago and I still remember how great their fish and chips was! We live over the other side of the bridge so tricky to get to without a car, but maybe one day will make the journey again!

My first time here. The chips are spot on nice and fat and not oily like other chip shops. The cod is the same not overcooked fresh and perfect and not oily again. The savoloys are nice too and not fatty or taste cheap. Nice place to get a proper fish and chips. Thank you please keep up the quality and price and I will be a regular. No doubt.

Ate there twice during our trip to London. Had fish the first night and Chicken on the Second Night. Honestly cannot say which I enjoyed More... The food was Excellent. Tasty, fresh, reasonably priced and plentiful! On a personal note, I spoke with the Owner, a friendly and personal man who was welcoming and appreciative of the business! Over all, an excellent take out experience... Well... Two Actually! :)

Well isn't this a little diamond in the rough. Now most of the time, after driving all day I really don't feel like fish and chips. Usually finding them greasy, leaving a film of oil on my pallette. It was the queue however that caught my attention. There are other businesses, of various food and cuisine on the same row.. But not a single person was waiting outside, or in them for that matter. A promising sign of to come. So I booked in the hotel and whatnot and headed over. Well the banter was alive and well in this place. The east London humour dropping like a brick through a skylight window. Quite a bit different from being in Yorkshire. Where it's customary to order, then being ignored for 15 minutes by local Lurch, armed with periodic grunts. As well as sounds, of what could be ailing cramp. Not this place, oh no, no, no. This place was a buzz of vibrant community and humour. The owner Peter was absolutely brilliant as where the staff. Now I like fish, but I like to try new things and thought, whilst I have the chance. Specially seeing the menu had lots of items I though, why not. So I asked what was recommended and available, leading me to try Plaice for the first time. Crispy light batter, not greasy in the slightest, chips fluffy with a good bit to them, again no light grease. So the next night I was pretty excited to try something else. Tuesdays Pie and Mash... Put simply, "Hell Yes". Really , really nice and the sauce was really good. The addition of the onion vinegar was awesome. Wednesday, I tried the roe and some fish with a fine spinal bone down the centre. I was warned it was a rich taste of fish. So opting for that, out came a bag of chips whilst I waited. Coated in a dark seasoning.. a sBBQ rub chips. So good, I was slightly upset that they disappeared so quickly. The fish was amazing. Great flavour, again not soaked in oil. Just light and crispy. The chips again great. Big portion though, certainly couldn't eat all the chips. Though i wanted too, I know my limits. Thursday brought the gloves out. The heavy hitter and the unexpected. Walked in and noticed a light in the corner. RIbs!! Since when does a fish and chips do ribs??! So 12 of the ribs ordered, with BBQ rub chips, certainly wasn't go to leave without them. Pot of BBQ sauce. Well that was something else. The ribs where juicy, succulent, well seasoned. The meat fell off. The BBQ sauce was very nice. The chips again awesome, that addition of the BBQ salt.. wow. That's the must have. Friday I wasn't even contemplating going. I was simply planning to drive north and go home. But saw the exit, gathered where I was and thought why not. Fried chicken thighs, battered savaloy and "BBQ CHIPS" YES!!! The chicken was really delicious, well cooked. Very moist and very well seasoned. Soon got polished off before practically diving on those chips. Battered savaloy was good. Crispy and just nice. All in all a great experience, the hotel I stayed in left a lot to desire. But id stay there again just for that fish shop. If you are passing, go in and try the chips. There's enough to fill a small army, don't let the box fool you. Theres so much to choose from the shop delivered the unexpected. Certainly in terms of my experiences of northern fish and chips. This is a great place to go. The price is surprisingly good. Tbh I didn't expect much change. To say this is fair prices is a bit of an understatement. I have paid more for bad food and bad service, certainly not the case here. The staff are warm and kind. If your there for the week, you can easily leave with great repoure.

Amazing service from the two guys there, we were staying across the road for Comicon at the Excel and the gorgeous smell of this place had us interested from day 1, so the day before we left we indulged ourselves on possibly the best Chippy I have evee had in my life. That paired with the fact the two blokes in there were happy, social, and genuine guys, it made for a great ending the weekend.

Nice chips. Poor hygiene. Having 10 customers crammed into the shops at once (ignoring the sign that said 3 max due to Covid) is bad enough. But then saw the guy handing the food with his bare hands, rather than the paper or tongs others used.

went today got 2 skate and one cod and chips i must say it's going to be my local fish shop now even tho we live a few miles away. the fish was cooked just right and must important the batter was top notch

Absolut unscheinbar aber der wahnsinns Food! Wer auf "Fish & Chips" im original steht, ist hier genau richtig. Alles wirklich komplett frisch zubereitet, das schmeckt man bei jedem bissen! Der Besitzer wie das Personal extrem freundlich und zuvorkommend. Ist auf jeden Fall ein "must visit" wenn man in dieser Ecke von London ist.

Food wasn't particularly great. Chips were undercooked and lacked any flavour. Portion sizes were very large and prices very reasonable but ended up throwing most of it away.
