The Laurel Bank Hotel in Fife

Stopped for lunch today! Great hearty food. Best sticky toffee I have tired in years!

Having been in the hotel for meals/functions in the past, I had no concerns when booking a room for an evening. Unfortunately, the room did not live up to my expectations. After waiting at least 10 minutes at reception for someone to check us in (there were no other guests checking in and the restaurant had not yet opened) we were given room 9. The room was dated, the bathroom was in need of some urgent upgrades and was also tiny - my partner who is 6ft was unable to sit straight on the toilet without hitting the radiator. The hotel had a function on that evening and we would have been aswell sitting with them. The music was so loud that the floor was vibrating. You could feel the beat whilst lying in the bed! This carried on until 12.30am. In the morning, we were woken around 6.30am by staff and a strange banging in the walls. Having had enough, we checked out first thing. This was one of the worst sleeps I've had in any hotel and was extremely disappointing.

Not our first time but not been in ages, went for their current offer: 2's Company Menu, arrived and seated straight away, very tentative staff and very friendly, started off with a Moretti & Gin, ordered food, brought Presecco, all within expected times, compliments to both the chef and staff, outstanding, definitely be back, we loved it!

Just had a family meal here and it was the worst meal ever. Waited forever to be served drinks and when food came it was cold. Lots of glasses lying on the bar unwashed. Wont be back!!!!

Stayed overnight at the CAMC Balbirnie clubsite. A short walk to the town and The Laurel Bank Hotel. We just had drinks in the bar attached to the hotel. Friendly bar staff and locals. Dog friendly.

Went for a lunch and cannot complain! Food was great! service was good! and bar staff were nice will go again

Went for afternoon tea. Great selection. Staff were very attentive. Food tasty. Price was so reasonable

Turned up for breakfast 😋 vegetarian breakdast and a roll with square sausage and haggis on the side which was very tasty

Small portions not good value for money waiter can't understand English and handed our plates rather than them laid on table had to explain to waiter 3x we didn't want starters served with mains won't be back !.....no to mention got out car in car park and all could smell was weed from door of function suite ......not my idea of a sat night out with friends for a meal .....poor won't be back

My husband and I used the haig suite at the Laurel bank for our wedding reception and it was absolutely fabulous. Lee helped set us up with meetings with Big Stevies Entertainment and made sure we had an excellent service and deal, which we are so grateful for. Absolutely loved the venue and the staff and management. We couldn't have asked for a better DJ for our wedding! From the very beginning, Big Stevie went above and beyond to make sure our reception was everything we wanted. We had several meetints with him and one of the coolest parts was that he actually invited us to his home to create a custom playlist with all the music we love. It made the night feel so personal and special. Not only did he handle the music, but he basically helped plan the entire reception. He had all of his own decorations and equipment, and still allowed for us to use our own stuff where we wanted aswell,and the setup was absolutely perfect. It was so bespoke and tailored exactly to our wants and needs! He kept everything running smoothly—coordinating the timing for our cake cutting, first dance, speeches, and everything in between. The whole night was seamless, and we never had to worry about a thing. If you're looking for a DJ who truly cares about making your event perfect, this is your guy. Highly recommend! Such an awesome and friendly dude :) Oh our buffet was incredible aswell!!!! Food was brilliant and all served on hot plates and all of our guests loved it :)))

Really poor experience. Made a booking over a week in advance for 10:30. Arrived slightly early and ordered breakfast and coffee within the first 10 minutes. Finished coffee and waited until 11:15, no sign of breakfast. So had waited at this point around 45 minutes for a simple cooked brea. Decided to pay for the coffees and leave hungry. The staff apologised and said the delay was because they were busy. As we were leaving we spoke to some others also waiting and age for food and they were pretty angry at the delay. Apparently there was a wedding party that morning so this was presumably prioritised over us for service. Genuinely disappointed as we were looking forward to the visit and were really surprised by the time taken for us to not receive anything. 1 star is for the coffee, which was very good but unfortunateli don't think we'll be back as we wasted our morning and it appears that when they're busy there will be an inordinate wait for simple and straightforward food.

We were very excited to celebrate our wedding anniversary at Lauren Bank Hotel with a beautiful breakfast, we’ve seen the program “Four in a Bed” and just thought the place was great and the breakfast sublime, we’ve seen the reviews and everything was perfect for a great Sunday’s breakfast. So we decided to book a table for two. When arriving the place was full, and is understandable because was a wedding at the same time and it’s normal to be busy. We understood that. But after 50 minutes waiting to be served. (from 10:30h to 11:20h) we had to leave with an empty stomach. It is shame, because I think the place, the quality of the food and even the management is great, but we hadn’t good luck. A couple of sausage rolls from the supermarket at front was our” special “ breakfast. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Hopefully they can sort this issue about the delay and we will give it a try again. I insist, Lauren Bank Hotel is a good place to celebrate but maybe that day ( 2nd February 2025) wasn’t the best day for some customers. I’m sure they will do their best next time. By the way, not everything is bad, the coffee is delicious, very tasty. 😃 Looking forward for a Full Fife Breakfast next time.

Had our Christmas dinner there and we were all slightly disappointed 😞

Went for lunch, food was okay, the restaurant was clean and staff were really attentive. Parking is very limited and no disabled spaces, The restaurant was quite cold. But generally good experience

We had booked the 3pm slot on Christmas Day. Arrived at our table and within 10 minutes we had our starter but still no drinks order taken. We had finished our starter and sat for another 10 minutes and still no one come near us to take our drinks order. I eventually had to ask someone if we could have some drinks. 15 minutes later our drinks arrived while we were starting to eat our main. The turkey was 90% stuffing and 10% turkey I could have got a better one from a freezer shop. We then finished our main and then our desserts and not one staff member asked if everything was ok or if we wanted more drinks, we had 1 drink and were there for over 2 hours. We thought no point in waiting the time it will take for another drink so we opted to just go home. We understand it is not the servers fault and this is why we did not mention it to the young girl running about, it is down to bad planning and not having enough staff to take and run drinks orders. We have been plenty places on Christmas Day and this was the worst by far.

Attended an OAP disco on 28 Dec at the function room. Suspicious of what it would be like but we enjoyed it. It's a large room, and there were about 30 people most were at large round tables ,as there were a group from a local charity. The tables were well decorated for the Xmas season with candles and crackers and a big tree in the hall. Music in the background greeted us and the disco lights were spinning. We were served quite soon after and the food was hot where apt, and the servers were efficient. Were impressed when the manager came out to help with serving the first course to get things off to quick start. The veg was perfectly cooked with the gravy perfect too. In this in area most restaurants are stocked by Brakes carering co which means all the menus are in effect the same. This menu didn't give that feeling though some items were obviously bought i from it.. It is all in the presentation. There is also a separate vegan menu . The afternoon ended with the DJ playing music from 60s, and 70s and 80s. And a good few joined in with the non stop music. I'd like to thank for the manager for a well thought out and organised event. It was only one of two this year but if he continues to tailor events and take care with the menus ,on a daily basis business will no doubt increase generally.

Stayed for one night when we were visiting. Clean rooms, large bathroom and comfortable bed. 2x £30 meal option was good. We had fish and chips which were nice. Breakfast was not included in our stay but we did add on... food was nice but sausages werent great.

Fantastic Christmas lunch. My only complaint would be that the ladies toilets are absolutely freezing 🥶

Was at a party night 7 .12.24 .had an excellent night food was delicious and the service was good the waitresses done a great job serving and the bar staff done a good job too would defo recommend a good night had by all

We have just returned to Tenerife after spending a week at the laurel bank, the hotel and staff were all very welcoming especially Susan the barmaid who welcomed us with open arms and made us feel such at home, a true asset to the laurel bank is Susan.

First class lunch today with excellent service. Thank you.

Great value for money. Lovely food. Great pint of Guinness staff throughout (restaurant, bar, reception) all friendly candy helpful. Will definitely be back.

We were only there to eat and it was great.

No beer in the beer garden. Rare sunshine so headed here as one of the few places in Glenrothes with outdoor seating. Bought beer at the bar and took a seat in the sun only to be told you aren’t allowed alcohol in that area. No offer of refund. No wonder pubs are going out of business if you can’t have a pint in the sun. EDIT Following a response from the owner, I contacted Fife Council who said the following: “In regards to the information submitted below relating to Laurel Bank Hotel in Markinch which has been forwarded onto the Alcohol Licensing Team. I can advise that the licence holder of Laurel Bank Hotel does not have the necessary permission to use part of the outdoor area and it appears that they never have. In order for them to use the area in question, in terms of the law, the licence holder requires to make an application to the Licensing Board and thereafter, there will be a hearing for the Licensing Boad to determine the application. Hope that explains the situation.” Hopefully the necessary application is successful and common sense prevails.

We just had my husband's birthday here, and I honestly can't recommend the staff enough. We had a couple of issues with the equipment we brought, and they were able to fix it no problem. There was a little miscommunication about what we needed and this was solved no problem as well. The wait staff and manager in particular were just absolutely lovely! It was such a wonderful night, and I really can't thank the staff enough for everything they did. Would absolutely book them again for another function!

Disappointing. Only two vegetarian options. Mac & cheese. Or basil & tomato pasta. The latter I ordered and arrived with chicken in it ! I was then brought some more pasta minus the chicken. But I couldn’t eat it. It would be nice to have more vegetarian choices other than just pasta. I wasn’t charged for the meal which was the only option really and wasn’t charged for my glass of wine which was good of them. The service at our table of 7 people was excellent.

!!!Attention!!! PARTY Hotel!!! Don't book if you want to sleep! 3 Partys in one Night. And no Informations in advance! Such a ripp off!!! No sorry in the evening when we asked for another room. Its a shame! And also the pictureres are very edited. It doesn't nearly look's like.

DON'T SLEEP HERE! It's really a shame that the owners have to make money by deceiving holidaymakers. Why are the rooms above the disco bookable if you know it's a party and you don't say a word. On the contrary, they let the guests sign a consent agreement at check-in with information about other things, which also includes the fact that there are 'sometimes' parties here. So you are completely powerless at night if your room shakes. That's no joke!

Had a lovely meal here. Food was first class. Scampi from St Monans. Best I've had. Friendly waiting staff. Definitely recommend it.

Great place. Good service and facilities, Fantastic location. Beer Garden 10+ for the added outdoor big screen. Restaurant 8 Bar 6 Restaurant bar 8 Rooms. untested General service is stretched and stressed then relaxed when not overly busy, standard issues. But... Martini Cocktails on tap is like an adult version of tango ice blast.

The hotel is in a lovely little town and was easy to find. There's quite a lot of stairs to go up to the rooms which could be difficult for elderly guests or guests with heavy bags but the staff were very helpful. The room was clean and comfortable and complete with amenities. Parking is limited.

The hotel hosted a gathering following a family bereavement. The venue was great and the staff were fantastic.

Was in yesterday 6/4 for a birthday lunch with friends. Food was great service was excellent. First time I had been but will definitely be back was great

Visited last June and enjoyed it so thought we would come back again for another meal. Went in about 3pm on Good Friday. Wasn't overly busy but stood waiting to be seated without staff acknowledgement, so went to bar and asked for a table. Finally got seated and then had to wait a long time before someone came to take order then walked away but never asked for any drinks so we asked if we ordered them at the bar. When food came, the steak in the steak sandwich was inedible. When mentioned to waitress (who didn't really have any customer service skills) said you should've asked for it well done!! Didn't bother having a dessert so got up and paid at bar rather than asking waitress for bill. Poor food, poor service, poor experience, won't return again.

Was in today 27th March 2024 for lunch, had fish and chips but there was already salt on my fish and chips , I don’t take a lot of salt and would very much appreciate if the chef would not put salt on my plate . I did say to one waitress about this and she said something about getting the chef to listen too them . Dear chef whatever your name how would you like it if I put sugar in your tea and you like sugar. The service was very good , hope someone has words with the chef .

Rooms a wee bit tired but the food was great both breakfast and dinner, it's also a good place for visiting places around in Fife.

Had an overnight stay staff were really friendly and made you feel welcome. Food was amazing and service was quick. Room was clean and very spacious.

Myself and girlfriend recently experienced every tourist's worst nightmare. Arriving at a hotel booked well in advance and they have no indication of your booking. Spending the first several hours of our holiday negotiating with them just to have our initial deal honoured was not excellent. They managed to put us in a "superior" hotel. What they meant was larger. The second hotel was off a roundabout near an A road and out of town. We checked out of the second hotel a day early. It just wasn't the atmosphere we were planning when we booked. We came from Glasgow, but imagine flying from Italy or France to stay in a Scottish hotel, they have no recollection of your booking despite an email thread with them and they place you in a worse spot.

My husband liked his meal ,but I'm afraid I can't say the same thing! I am careful about what I eat as I'm on a strict diet ,it was an anniversary gift voucher and because I had recently had a heart precedure we hadn't been able to use it , didn't realise it was only to be used within 6 months! I ordered steak but without the usual accompanying sides,I said vegetables and a small salad .when it arrived I tried the salad it tasted stale ,the carrot was nice but the broccoli was totally raw .All I really ate was a steak and a small carrot ,and a small cola.my husband ate all his Mac& cheese,also drunk his cola .The voucher was for £30 and he put money towards it .His meal was around £15-50 or thereabouts,so really they charged full price for mine £26.50 or thereabouts.server did ask if meal was ok and I told her about the veg,she just said I will let the chef know .wasn't impressed at all!!

Another lovely meal and a dessert 🍨 to die for great service pleasant staff 😀 and being able to bring the dogs is a real bonus
