This place is getting a very bad name. I don't know who it is trying to attract, but the bar has excellent potential, perhaps stop the outside drinking as there doesn't seem to be the security to run the place, I was verbally abused walking past and everytime I'm in the place the police seem to be about. Really can't see this bar lasting unfortunately. People sit in the outside seating area with buckfast. Honestly maybe remove the tables and this place has a chance. Lovely owner who knows his stuff. Just don't let it go the way it is going. Will try again.

Hate leaving negative reviews but this pace really needs to listen to people. Music is simply deafening. The clientele it is attracting leaves a lot to be desired. The manager seems enthusiastic and puts in some effort, maybe remove the outside seats as honestly this is just causing you massive problems. People genuinely go to the off licence and sit and drink wine and buckfast. I can't see it lasting if this continues which is a pity as it has massive potential. The place is becoming the tall and joke of the town. Hopefully someone reads this.

I can’t fault the bar or staff, they’re very good. But customers fighting outside in front of young children is a no-no. The bar has become a meeting place for low life’s who seem to be drunk morning to night. The police were as usual, nowhere to be seen. I can’t see this bar lasting if it continues like this, so much potential but no customer security. We won’t return till the situation is sorted.

Hate to be critical but we had a very poor experience in here, it seems to be lacking strong managemnt. We were in at about 8pm on a Thursday night, numerous individuals annoying other customers who should have been told hours ago you have had enough and leave, or if I was running the place would simply be barred, but were left to make people feel uncomfortable until they were left with no option but to move away. Another individual sitting at a table outside drinking a bottle of buckfast(wasn't annoying anyone) but I simply wouldn't be in this place again.

Advert says daily food. Went for the pub quiz and told no food available with no explanation. Not even crisps. We wanted to do the quiz so asked could we order a pizza in. No food allowed, despite the kitchen being closed with no explanation. We would have stayed all night if we could have ordered food in. Really daft. Won't be going again. Such a shame.

This place has really gone downhill. Came in for lunch and the food was almost inedible; completely unacceptable for how expensive it was. Kids are allowed in the afternoon, which ruined the atmosphere for us as they were allowed to run around the place screaming. The local wetherspoon drunks were filing in and bothering people when we were leaving. Far preferred this place when it was dog friendly and you could bring in pizza from little wings, at least it had a nicer atmosphere then. It's trying but failing to be more upmarket and I'd be surprised if it stays open much longer.

I have been to The Lark several times for drinks but since they had re-opened the lounge my friend and I decided to book for Dinner. We specifically booked the lounge as we know it can get busy in the bar on a Saturday night and especially with the rugby on. The problems started when we arrived as the upstairs lounge had been booked for a birthday party and we were informed we would be seated downstairs in the bar. When we arrived down they moved an elderly disabled man from our reserved table which was a little awkward. It took some time for menus and drinks orders to be taken as there was only one waitress dealing with a very busy bar, she did apologise for this and was very friendly. Our drinks arrived quickly but our meal took a while. In the meantime, the gentleman who had to be moved had sat between our two tables and was quietly enjoying his pint. Our food arrived and in fairness was very tasty however then a extremely intoxicated man pushed his way over to the table beside us, we initially thought he knew the other couple but no, and proceeded to lift the elderly mans drinks and make him move to our table (which was only small). When I ‘he isn’t with us and we are trying to eat our dinner’ the drunk man proceed to mock me and then called me a ‘f*cking bitch’ in an aggressive manner and then continued to mutter other misogynistic slurs under his breath. The elderly gentleman was extremely upset and kept trying to apologise to us even though we reassured him we knew this drunk man was nothing to do with him. Needless to say we had lost our appetite and I approached the bar to inform staff we were being verbally abused by this man. He was allowed to sit on, continuing to abuse us. We decided to leave, the staff then approached us and said they would move us!! I informed them that we were not staying as this man was continuing to abuse us, he was extremely intoxicated (at 6pm) and we did not feel safe. I went to see what the arrangement would be with the bill and was initially offered £6 discount on our £53 bill. When i pointed out that our meals and drinks were only half consumed and that had we been informed we weren’t in the bar we would have changed our booking anyway the Manager (?) said ‘ok this is on us’. Whilst this was a satisfactory outcome for payment I am left feeling extremely disturbed by the whole experience. Why should an extremely drunk man be allowed to sit on after abusing two women on their own trying to enjoy dinner? We had to walk home as our taxi was not booked until later and were worried he was going to follow us. I would certainly not have been happy to have ventured down the stairs last night for fear that that man would have followed me. I have several recommendations for The Lark if they want to improve the experience for women in particular but everyone overall. 1- If your preferred area for dining is not available make the person aware so they can make an informed decision. 2- Perhaps refuse alcohol to someone who is so intoxicated at 6pm that they struggle to stand. 3- Have the door staff start work earlier as the bar staff clearly did not want to have to deal with this man (and nor should they or anyone for that matter but sadly that is the world we live in) 4- Have an awareness of how frightening these experiences can be for lone females who then have to try and get home.

Booked the Lounge for dinner on 24 February, but upon arrival was told that we had to dine downstairs in the main bar. The Lounge appeared to be hosting a birthday party which I would assume had been booked well in advance, so I question why we hadn't been informed when booking that that particular space would not be available. We went downstairs to the bar where we had to wait for our table to become free - there did not seem to be any preparation done for this. When finally seated, we weren't offered a menu and our drinks order was not taken. The staff member in question was dealing with the many patrons in the bar who were watching the rugby so this really wasn't her fault. After quite a wait, we finally got menus and drinks and made our order. We waited a considerable amount of time for our food to come, but when it finally arrived, it was satisfactory. Unfortunately, before we could finish our drinks and meal, an inebriated individual (male, obviously), tried to ensconce himself beside our table. From the outset, his body language and general demeanour was aggressive and drunken, and when we expressed dismay at his behaviour, he called my dining companion a 'f*cking bitch'. We informed the manager; however instead of removing this individual, he suggested we move our table approximately one metre further away. Instead we decided to leave, despite not finishing either our meal or our drinks. I pointed out to the manager that we had been verbally abused and his response was simply "I know." There was no attempt to remove the abusive man or admonish him in any way. Instead, two females were expected to simply move their table slightly further away, and I expect, to just suck it up. Upon leaving we were initially offered c. £6 off a full bill of £53. We were appalled at this offer given that a) we were not meant to be dining in the bar in the first place, b) service had been glacially slow, and c) a verbally abusive, toxic man had been allowed to remain in the premises. Eventually we were told we would not need to pay anything. While monetary wise, this was a good outcome, ultimately this whole situation was appalling. We were two women dining alone who were offered zero support by a male manager despite being subjected to threatening, misogynistic language when merely going out for dinner. We are two women in our 40s who had only had 1.5 pints each. I dread to think how younger, less sober women present could have been treated. To have a man be able to sit in this bar, completely intoxicated at only 6pm, verbally abusing women with ZERO consequences and a fair level of disinterest from male management, is disgusting. This bar is not a safe space for women, period. Avoid.

This place has a good street presence and we liked the ambience and decor. No live music when we visited but the FA cup was on so fair enough. We’d been in before but not for food and the music was really good. The staff were very courteous and friendly. No issue finding us a table, even though we’d just walked-in without a booking, although it was early January so the place wasn’t really busy. The food was another matter. It took a long time to get to us and they were not run off their feet with kitchen orders. When the food finally arrived it was disappointing. The beef dripping chips were great and the burger was tasty, but was fairly meagre for the money, mainly because it didn’t come with bacon or cheese as it would in most other similarly priced local places, but even at that it wasn’t great value for money.anyway. It felt more like a kids portion if honest. Found myself snacking late that night. The lasagne was watery and not very appealing. The garlic bread was just white bread toasted with garlic in it. It was served in small triangles like in a breakfast cafe. Not sure what they were thinking. Maybe it was all they had. We didn’t finish it. When asked how the meal was by a guy who appeared to be the manager we gave honest feedback, which was accepted and seemed to be appreciated. We were told the lasagne would be discounted off the bill. When we went to pay no manager was in sight and no discount was given. Not for us. Will be back for drinks and music, but not the food.

I think we just came on an off-day because what a disappointment! We made a reservation for Saturday afternoon, and although it didn't seem too busy, it's possible they were understaffed due to the Christmas holiday because the service was quite poor. Most other tables had a full menu (we gathered from some light creeping 👀), yet we were only offered a limited set menu that had just one veg option. While our drinks came fairly quickly, we waited for our food for over an hour. None of us were in a rush, but it was odd they didn't even come back with water or to ask if we wanted another drink while we waited. When the food finally arrived, it was no longer hot, and they gave me a chicken curry instead of the veg (maybe not normally a huge deal except I'm vegetarian). When I got the replacement veggie curry, it appeared like it was slapped together at the last second as it looked starkly different. I'm usually pretty easy to please food-wise, but it was very watery and bland. Even the rice was sopping. The one saving grace was our server--I wish I got her name! She was doing her best in a less-than-ideal situation, and I appreciate that she requested for my meal to be on the house and for our table to be given a discount. Holidays can be hectic, so I hope this poor experience was just a one-off, but we were pretty bummed.

Overpriced. Poor quality. Poor service (despite it being relatively quiet). Arrived with 4 adults and 5 children (2-5years) took 1 hour to get our meals. Only allowed to order from one of the menus provided (no mention of pre book required as stated by server on either). Limited option for vegetarian. I highlighted this then enquired re chips/fries on side of my choice. Given options but when bill arrived listed as ‘beef dripping chips’. Children not provided with drinks during meal or offered ice cream at end. Childs portion chips/fries larger than adults paid for separately. Not again.

They need to get rid of the live music, yes it’s great some local talent get to show perform. The acoustics are too loud than they need to be or but it means you are shouting loud to have a conversation with your party or even when you’re trying to order a drink.
