food was lovely has always, scampi was a bit on the crispy side but the scampi I could taste was nice. Shame I had to rush food due to a later delivery but food was still hot so can't complain

My food eventually arrived 45 minutes late after phoning the the chippy they apologised and give a free bottle of coke saying that they mixed up the dockets I was happy enough until I opened my food and it became apparent to me that it was the same food that was taken to the wrong address so they thought it was perfectly acceptable to deliver food that was cooked atleast 45 minutes ago which was completely dried out this food was binned not even fit for a dog to eat will not order from here ag

I was waiting for an overcooked fish for 20 mins. Even the shop was empty on Saturday late afternoon. No wonder why: slow service, low quality food

Disgusting what the hell happened to John dory’s!? The battered sausages would smash your teeth out, sausages full of grisly bits, portion of chicken chunks suppose to be 10 but basically got 5 decent sized ones and the rest the size of a baby finger nail, chips bland and chewy, honestly worse takeaway I’ve had

when I first arrived the front of house was empty and I had to shout to get someone's attention. Realised when I got to work that the order was wrong if only because I was given the wrong sauce and the portion was kid size needles to say I won't be back

Great service we ordered in the app and there was an hour wait, however we went in and asked and was able to get it made right then! They even called to let us know when it was ready which was nice. The food was nice but the holy grail for the garlic mayo!!!! I have never tasted anything so good. It tastes homemade?! Honeslty for even much of a sauce person but it was so tasty. Really lovely service, nice food and the best garlic mayo. Would recommend

Ordered the wrap meal deal and got very few chips and didn't get the drink that comes with it. Food took very long to make .

Cod supper was fantastic. Only thing that I didn't like was the curry sauce, it was very salty. Other than that fish and chips were perfect.

John Dory's was always my go to chippy because of the quality of their fish. I got 2 fish suppers this evening and they were the worst I have had, 2 very thin and overcooked fillets, very poor considering the price.

Ordered cod bites and a cod. Received something batttered but was definitely not a fillet. Was mostly batter and very thin and was in two pieces. Received two of these instead of bites and cod.

Food was amazing. Haven't tasted a perfect cod& chips recently, however staff were slow to take orders eventhough there were 3 people there. They were standing around chatting and took their time

£8.40 for a bog standard chicken burger with bacon is ridiculous

Food was late then when it was ready and packed the lady who was giving off at all the workers had set it to the back and only for my partner going up the second time was our food given! Not great customer service also missing our salt and vinegar on our food.

Got from Lisburn tonight (Saturday) the food was fantastic , I got the Hawaiian hotdog was messy to eat but worth it best hotdog about Lisburn, excellent service and food excellent

Chips were awful, no one could eat them. Sausages were only ok, however, some of us were finding "bits" in them which were unpleasant. Beans taste-less. Ketchup was nice. Haven't had from here in years because its expensive but used to be very good and very tasty - now its just expensive trash.

Chicken burger today at lunch time only half was cooked. Won't be back

No signs to say Card only after a certain time called in at 9.44pn tonight to be told card only I only had cash on me no phone or bank card with me as it doesn’t close until 10pm so cash up shouldn’t be done and cash should still be accepted unless signs posters stating otherwise. We’ve been critical of here in past reviews and returned yesterday 1 March 24 for the first visit in a long time. We got cod & chips pension specials and the battered fish which was real tasty was thin in 3 of the 4 nuggets. Honestly make it 2 or 3 nuggets and make the fish a bit thicker as batter should never out proportion the fish. Chips were perfection again the portion isn’t generous. Gas prices have fallen electricity prices are going to drop and yes I know it’s still dearer for everything but prices were increased benched in prices at their highest but costs have receded. We will return more often as its quality seems to be there. Staff are always very friendly.

I got chips and fish bites and my husband got sliced chicken supper. We were both very disappointed. My fish was soggy and chips were lukewarm. My husband's meal was lukewarm and just wasn't nice. We paid over£18 and will certainly not be going there again!

Normally the food is excellent but got a fish and a small chip last night and was extremely disappointed. Fish over done, practically burnt withe the batter practically impenetrable. The chips were mostly scraps and again overdone. Only l live quite a distance from the shop I would have returned the food. Still suffering today due to severe indigestion.

to collect the order was 20 mins, to deliver the order was 45-60 min,, delivered 90 mins from order. WHY SO LONG I ASSUME YOU CONSIDER YOURSELF AS A WELL ORGANISED BUSINESS. You should check your orders my delivery from KFC (my wife uses John Dorys GF menu) was ordered at same time and delivered 35mins later, surely that driver could have picked up my wifes order as it would have been ready. Waited 2 hours for a barely warm meal, my friend ordered after me and got hers 45 mins before mine arrived. Not the delivery drivers fault as the shop confirmed they chose the order in how its delivered.

V disappointing. Had to wait for well over 30mins for my order . Fish bites were v soggy and lukewarm, as we're the chips. Our friend got served much more quickly, but his order was totally wrong! What is going on? The team that were serving last night were disinterested and v inefficient.

I've tried fish and chips in lots of different places across the UK, but John Dory's is easily the best one I ever tasted.

Hi got food last night just wasn’t up to standard that it used to be curry sauce was like a thick paste fish wasn’t great and chicken goujons looked weird inside and the batter was crispy was not soft and burger was overcooked. This used to be absolutely lovely but recently i feel standards have fallen big time.

Just had 2 fish and a chip carry out from here tonight. Amazing just as good as a restaurant. Don't know the name of the guy who was doing fryer but he is an asset to your company as last time we got fish and chips from here he was working. It was cooked to.perfection. Well done to all the staff.

We didn't finish a single item. John Dory's has a great reputation but this was not up to standard. Nothing got eaten.

The food in this place is boggin and far too expensive. Smallest portions ever. The chips were not cooked properly and the chicken burger was disgusting. Avoid it.

My partner ordered a fish supper, a fish and a curry sauce. Chips seemed like they had been reheated and the fish was not a full fish only bits of fish. The batter was swimming in grease and way too salty and the curry sauce was just pure gloop. This place used to be good but it has really gone downhill and now it’s rubbish and the price for the rubbish is extortionate. Won’t be returning. Steer clear

The best Fish and Chips for miles

Lovely food,great value for money.

I was a fan of this place but the cod fish portion I got the other evening was just mean and though I won’t say I’ll not return I guess it’ll be a long time before I do. The distance for me to here is the same as to Kilkeel. I go for the senior deal when I go and it’s common to get this deal. This time last year it was a fair deal here but I’d say I got less than half the amount of fish portion that was usually served. A cod fish finger is as thick. Now I do get it. Prices have risen, but I’ve been touring England in recent weeks and for £6 I was able to always get cod (in some places the cod was cheaper than haddock) and a generous portion of chips with a decent size portion of fresh cod. Some even had a wedge of lemon. If I opted for rock fish I’d save £1. I visited 5 different places in England in the last few weeks for fish & chips and today I went to Kilkeel. John Dory is the exception for really mean portions - there is a lot in it at about half the fish portion. Everyone else has similar overheads and material costs. I guess they aren’t living wage payers to staff so I can only conclude as the headline says I was just ripped off.

Near £9 for a dry chip with a few bits of chicken and sauce. Very disappointed and also never received my drink I spent over £2 on!! In total with delivery £16 down the drain. I’ll not be rushing back.

Hi we still haven’t received our food 2 hours after order so can we please have a full refund

Took well over half an hour to get a cod supper, a fish and a combo meal, and they made two of them first and left to go cold, mine was the combo and for that price it was pathetic, onions barely battered, missing or I assume missing chicken, rubbish sizes and they really need to advertise the nacho bites as cheese and not chicken as I couldn't eat them due to being severely lactose intolerant, very very disappointed.

30 minutes since it said my order was delivered and still not here

Was not expecting much after reading reviews. But it was fabulous this order anyway. Not many do breaded haddock around. It came so crispy and firm and three good pieces of haddock. Best around for a long time. Young man frying was pleased when I complimented the dish. At £6.80 it was reasonable for such a big portion of fresh bread crumbed haddock. I will be back Recommended.

Arrived 45 mins late and food was luke warm but edible.

The food was lovely but I was not given any of the drinks with the 3 meals. Can I please receive a refund for these.

Looked up the opening times on Google and on the John Dory app. Both clearly state the opening hours are 1200 to 2200. I arrived into the Lisburn store this evening at 2147 to be informed the shop was closed and there were no longer taking any more ordered. I informed them both the app and Google state the store closes at 2200. A girl by the name of B*****y was serving on the till and very begrudgingly served me and informed me they only had chips left and no batter for anything and they were trying to clean up I went to pay with cash and was informed I could only pay with card. Clearly the till had been done at least 10 minutes in advance of the official closing time. I don't understand why a last order time is not mentioned if this is the case, I wouldn't have bothered going if I knew this was going to be the situation. B*****y has a serious attitude and her customer service skills would leave a lot to be desired.

Sat ages waiting on food as young girl was on her own food is very expensive other chippies are alot cheaper & quicker asked for raw onions on gravy chip got fried literally turned me the grease off the onions plus I asked for peas wasn't told there mushy hate mushy peas the chicken burger the chicken was burnt & rock hard the batter would have broke a tooth

Put way too much sauce on my cheese burger. Tasted like road kill. I advise not to ever but a cheeseburger with red sauce. You will be scarred for life.

We have been using John Dorys Lisburn since we moved here in 2011. At that time it was one of the best takeaways in the area for both food quality and value for money. It is sad to say that this is no longer the case. Over the last two to three years there have been several changes made that seem to have a primary focus on maximising business profitability. This unfortunately has been at the detriment of customer service. John Dory have moved to their own app based ordering system. Staff no longer answer the phone meaning that unless you order via Just Eat, you have no way of getting issues with your order addressed should there be a problem. The food prices have increased exorbitantly and the portion sizes have been reduced to being barely adequate. I know all business costs have increased of late but John Dorys are now one of the dearest chipshops in Lisburn. The app also charges you a "processing fee" each time you use it. It isn't as if customers have a choice if they want to place an order. The alternative is driving down to order and get the food yourself but there is no longer even a menu on display behind the counter like there used to. It is just pictures of a few meal deals displayed. This almost sends a subliminal message that the takeaway no longer want to directly deal with the public when taking orders. Orders we have placed within the last year either were delivered cold or have had something missing from them. This week my wife went in store to order a gluten free meal. She was told by staff that they no longer do gluten free as it has been stopped by Lisburn City Council. This used to be one of John Dorys best strengths as a chipshop that they catered for folk that cant eat wheat. Lisburn has quite a few great chipshops now. if John Dory don't listen to their customers I fear they wont be there much longer which would be a shame.

The food arrived half an hour late. Took multiple attempts to get through to the restaurant and the burger order was incorrect. The delay caused the food to be just about mild when it arrived.

Quality fresh food, friendly staff.

Restaurant forgot fish supper ( called a few times and couldnt get through) , chips on all meals were soggy and half cooked, food in general just wasnt nice. For someone reason on the kids meals the only dips available are chilli and thousand island? (Asked in notes for a more suitable dip- not followed) Would really be expecting more when spending over £50!!!!

Having previously purchased from this establishment, I was shocked to find the quality of what was produced left a lot to be desired …! The chips were re-heated and dry and the “Greasy” yellowed frozen haddock would have had the local cats fleeing ! Needless to say the lot went in the bin, which at the prices they charge was an expensive exercise. The management proudly show an “ OUTDATED” award, however I presume this award was for speed of service opposed to quality of what the staff produce ! I definitely won’t be spending my hard earned cash at this place again, I have more respect for my health !

Having purchased from John Dory’s Lisburn on previous occasions, I thought I would place another order for simple “Breaded Haddock” On opening the takeaway box, I was shocked to fined a so called haddock, which incidentally appeared to be previously frozen as the colour, texture and flavour left a lot to be desired. I would go as far to say, that the fish appeared to had given itself up ….. and as for the chips, they were most definitely reheated and dried up. At the price this establishment charges for fish and chips, the produce should be spot on and not something the local cat would turn it’s nose up at. Suffice to say…. I certainly won’t be throwing my hard earned cash away, by shopping here again . The staff appear pleasant enough, however their aim is to get food out quickly and pay no attention to the quality of what they produce. I’m gob smacked that the owners of this business have the audacity to maintain they are an award winning establishment. The award must be very old and pertaining to the speed of service not the quality of their expensive produce !

Lovely food. Also loved that they do gluten free options and rang me to discuss the order too! It’s hard to find nice, safe food as a coeliac so this was great.

This was my eight visit to jd lisburn yes I know eight time and they still got my order wrong why did I keep going back because I was hoping and praying that maybe one day they would get it right my sister in law got gluten free food and the reaction she had was far beyond what she expected yes she was ill for two days will never be back she says and I'm now agreeing with her as will my friends who have also experienced the mismatch orders its very sad that it has come to this as at the start of jd when they opened the food staff service was excellent

I have always loved their chicken kebab with house sauce. There was always plenty of sauce and it was quite spicy. Hadn’t had one since before lockdown and was really looking forward to it. What a let down. The chicken was bland and the very small amount of sauce was completely tasteless. Total waste of money

Portions are a disgrace, over priced disgusting

I am so disappointed in my order, I ordered a large chip and received a chip that was barely even small. I ordered a chicken fillet as I believed this wouldn't have batter on it compared to the "battered fillet" option but it did. I ordered a sprite can and I was delivered a Fanta lemon can without being asked if it was okay and the can had been dropped in dirt and mud and was too filthy to even use. Disgusting service and I will be putting in a complaint.

Waited ages for two simple snack meals…and when it finally turns up it’s the wrong order, i immediately rang the shop the girl i got on the phone was useless. Told me i’d have to wait 45 mins for a meal again & offered to write my name in a book!… baring in mind THEY GAVE ME THE WRONG ORDER. After repeating myself a number of times saying i don’t eat chicken & i just wanted a refund she then told me i couldn’t and put me on hold without even saying… after about 5mins another girl came on the phone…i’m assuming the manager, she told me to do the refund through just eat. So After all that fuss i finally got my refund from just eat that i done myself! & decided from now on i won’t be returning, it was poor costumer service & i ended up fixing their problem. maybe teach them some manners & basic costumer service skills wouldn’t go a miss. Costumers are always right… not at john dorys it seems

Wrong food delivered waited 1hour 45 minutes food was cold would like a refund please. Would have gave no stars but there was no option

Absolutely awful, made my order of a few items, included in this was a plain quarter pound cheeseburger. Waited for about 10 mins and got my order. Went to the car only to discover the burger was full of salad with some white colour sauces and tomato ketchup. Took it back and stated the order was a plain quarter pound cheeseburger, the young girl behind the counter apologies and she said she would get me another one, I replied I will come back in a few mins as my other food would be getting cold, this I did and was handed another burger along with another apology. Walked to the car opened the carton to find no cheese on the cheeseburger! I again went back in and stated to the same young lady it was a CHEESE BURGER, this has no cheese on it. She just looked at me, no sorry nothing. I left the burger on the counter and left. What a waste of over a fiver for a burger. The staff obviously didn't listen to the order and omitted the cheese on the second attempt what poor service, wasn't even offered a refund, not at all pleased as I am quite a regular customer.

Had to wait one hour and fourty-five minutes. When the food arrived driver informed me that he had done two other deliveries with our food in the car for over twenty minutes resulting in lukewarm dinner. Absolutely disgusted with this service......

I was the last person to review this place. This place does fish & chips exceptionally well and while prices have risen around 20/30% since my last review the quality remains top notch. I think it wouldn’t do to reduce portion sizes given the price hikes. It was service with a smile too. My chunky cod had a perfectly light crisp batter and it was delicious for such a simple thing yet I cannot think of one fish and chip shop within 15 miles of where I live that gets close to this place and they are awful in comparison. I can’t even guess why they are so bad as we are only talking a few (less than 5) ingredients. The chips too were ace. I guess the food is cooked in beef dripping and having had fish cooked in vegetable oils (rapeseed, sunflower, olive, peanut) nowt beats pure beef dripping. Delightful meal despite it being unhealthy it’s likely far less unhealthy than the international burger and chicken chain restaurants.

Long time from I have eaten from John Dory’s and I will not be back. Over priced, small portions and greasy food. Some of the food just went in the bin.
