Great service, great food top atmosphere

I never usually take the time to write reviews but this place deserves all the recognition after our experience last night. Me and my husband visited this restaurant for the first time for our wedding anniversary celebrations while visiting bideford for the weekend. We were looking for an Italian when researching online and I’m so glad I came across and chose this beautiful restaurant. And I don’t say this lightly - it was honestly the best meal and restaurant experience we have had. The food was just delicious made all from scratch with ingredients sourced from Italy. The service from the owner (Ali) was incredible and the passion he has for his food and each ingredient in it is nothing short of extraordinary. When he told us what was on the menu we couldn’t decide so he put together the most delicious starter sharer board with delicious meats, and homemade dough balls and bruschetta (i haven’t tasted anything like it before! My husband and I also shared a pizza and cannelloni (again we couldn’t decide!). All I can say is I wish we lived closer because I’m not sure any other pizza or pasta dish is going to come close! Thank you again Ali for such an amazing meal and making our anniversary extra special. We will definitely make a trip to bideford again so we can come back!!

We had a fantastic evening at The Italian Kitchen, the host was fantastic, explained all the food to us which was all authentically Italian and absolutely delicious. Had the sharing menu which was so good and meant we got to try a bit of everything! The wine was so good we had to have another bottle! The best Italian around!

Fantastic experience! Great little restaurant, lovely owner who is so passionate about what he does. Love the small but perfect wine list and menu - the bruschetta was delicious especially as the bread had been made by the owner this morning - the pizzas equally delicious. Such a lovely ambience and we would highly recommend.

Wonderful evening here. The food was exceptional and such great value too. Ali is doing an amazing job running the restaurant singlehanded. I'd have been so stressed doing what he does but he seemed to take it in his stride and was jovial and friendly throughout the evening. Very informative. knows is stuff and is passionate about it. Small place with a great local reputation for good quality Italian food. Incredibly it all seems to run by one man, frenetically cooking, serving and clearing away. His passion really comes through in the food too. It’s a necessarily limited menu, but it’s all been carefully selected by the chef and it tastes brilliant.

Absolutely lovely place, great food, friendly service, homely atmosphere

Funny how I wrote a negative review a few months ago and it wasn't accepted as a review. So I'll try again. Poor service, poor quality if food, an all round underwhelming experience. It could be that Bideford has very few restaurants, therefore little competition, so the bar is set low.

What a gem of a find. A perfect tiny little restaurant. We shared two of the pizza specials. Light crispy and delicious. Lucky Bideford.

Absolutely amazing food. The pizza dough is light and crisp. The topping fresh and tasty. The wine is a super match, served in beautiful glasses. We have been coming for years and look forward to many more enjoyable meals.

I rarely write reviews, except when I come across exceptional restaurants where food is being served with passion. This was one of those places. Very welcoming owner, knows what he is doing (authentic!) and very thoughtful with kids. Hospitality at its finest. Food was great (true Napoli style pizza, using fresh ingredients) and the small restaurants (it seats 10 only) is lovely decorated. You just feel very welcomed. Great find which I can happily recommend to anyone.

We had a delicious meal here last night. Pizzas were made by the chef fresh and cooked in front of our eyes. Everything made on site. A unique experience. The recommmended red wine from Sicily was superb. We shall definitely visit again, a real gem of a place. Excellent value for money too.

We visited Bideford for a trip down memory lane and were pleasantly surprised to find that the Italian kitchen was still there. We popped our heads round the door on the Friday afternoon, to see if there were any gluten free options. Ali (short for Alistair), the owner, said he would see if he could organise something and took my number. The following morning I received a message giving menu details and gluten free options. We were asked to pre order which we were happy to do. On Saturday evening we arrived at the restaurant to be warmly greeted by Ali. We were offered a good choice of wines, given water and the meal itself was absolutely delicious. We had antipasto and bruschetta to start. My husband had a Diavalo pizza with spicy meats and I had gluten free meatballs and salad with gluten free bread. We felt like we had our own personal chef and enjoyed our evening of good food and conversation with Ali. This restaurant is a gem. It has an intimate Italian restaurant with a very authentic feel, part of this comes from the owners heritage. We would thoroughly recommend it.

We stumbled across The Italian Kitchen during a weekend away. We started with bruschetta which was amazing followed by vegan pizza. The pizza was perfect - thin and crispy topped simply with a marinara and finely sliced veggies. We would definitely return if we visit Bideford again!

Staying locally so decided to try & get an early meal in Bideford. After wandering round came across this restaurant by chance. Owner was really accommodating providing a small vegan pizza for our toddler. We all went with one of his suggestions & we all enjoyed our choices. Lovely evening & would recommend if you're in Bideford. Thought our food was good value too.

We travelled down to Bideford for the weekend from Bristol, and managed to book a table at short notice. We were very impressed with the Italian pizzas, so light and full of flavour! Great service, and perfect portions. The owner suggested his speciality dessert “Mezza Luna”, a caramelised banana in Nutella! I’d travel 2 hours just for that! A lovely evening was spent at this place, great company and fantastic service.

A quaint and joyful meal, wonderful care of service and fantastic authentic cuisine. You can tell that the passion runs through this family run business, like being welcomed into the family for casual dining and shared experience.

We were looking for somewhere to eat in Bideford, when we stumbled upon the Italian kitchen. We were kindly welcomed in by the owner/ chef, who gave us great recommendations on food and drinks, lovely conversation and delicious food at a reasonable price. Would highly recommend.

Such a lovely find, we were visiting family near Bideford when we came across this wonderful little restaurant on Google. We messaged online and were accommodated that evening, the pre-ordering system all makes sense when you arrive and one brilliant man is running the entire operation. The food was absolutely fantastic, so fresh and authentic. The gentleman running the restaurant was also truly lovely. We would definitely return next time we visit Bideford! Delicious food at a very reasonable price!

Great little restaurant 4 of us popped in and they were very helpful explained normal to book online as all food made to order, we were lucky he was able to accommodate us straight away, very tasty food and dessert with a bottle of red. Thank you for fitting us in.

Had an incredible time here. The food was possibly the best we have ever eaten and was obviously made with a heart for genuine, authentic cooking with the best Italian ingredients. Had a wonderful evening and felt like we had a private chef the service was so good! Amazing prices too, would have happily paid more. Couldn’t recommend more.

Shame it’s only open 2 nights a week but better than none. Excellent no more to say Will be making this a regular Thursday night

The Italian kitchen has been the go-to place for authentic Italian food since it opened around 8 yrs ago. I remember being served real Italian ice cream with a limoncello on our first visit which has proved to be a memorable experience! The service is perfect and the open kitchen allows the delicious smells of the freshly made pizza to waft across the restaurant - delicious! A great place to go for a social, a celebration, an intimate meal or a catchup after work. I cant fault it! Highly recommend!

Been here plenty of times, and still come back for that god level pizza. I would rate this a ten stars, if I could. The staff is very polite, and the Italian chef is always there to have a chat. He is a pizza master and will always make sure it’s to your satisfaction. It has air conditioning and heating. The atmosphere and decor made in an old, cosy style with gentle music. Better pizza than in Italy. Prices so worth it, impossible to regret.

Looked at the reviews as we were passing through. Can't recommend the place highly enough ... delicious food, good portion size, almost everything cooked in an Italian wood fired oven. We had the Panzerotti to share followed by Canelloni for me and Lasagne for my partner. The chef has skills. Try it you won't be disappointed......

Pleasantly environment and niceness

Visited with friends and were seated at the back of the restaurant which on the evening we were there was rather chilly despite a heater being provided. Menu okay but would prefer more choice of pasta dishes its either pizza or not pixza although the food was very good as was the waitress service. As we were the only remaining people in the restaurant we felt we were being hurried along after finishing our meal whilst drinking coffee and chatting - the whole evening was concluded in under 2 hours.

My girlfriend and I ended up stranded in the town of Bideford on a wet rainy day and were looking for a restaurant to take shelter in. That is when we found the lovely 'Italian Kitchen'. Immediately we were greeted by friendly front of house staff who were able to squeeze us in on a busy Saturday night. What came next was attentive service and delicious Italian food and pizza. What more can you ask for!

We had a very nice meal with friendly service in a good authentic atmosphere. Price was very reasonable. Only downside was that there weren't many pasta dishes on the menu although I had the cannelloni and my wife had the rigatoni. Both were very good. Our friend had the pizza and she thought it was excellent (and she used to run a restaurant in Italy!)

Visited with friends but found the restaurant disappointing due to the lack of non pizza items on the menu. I had the bruschetta which although quite tasty I felt the portion could have been larger. I followed with the cannelloni but found some of the pasta to be overcooked. Although the atmosphere was good the experience was also let down by the seating. We were allocated benches at our table which were extremely uncomfortable and could have been improved with some sort of padding. Everybody that had pizza enjoyed their meal.

We stumbled across this restaurant on a cold rainy evening and they gave us a warm welcome. The staff were all very friendly and efficient. The food was excellent. Would return when in North Devon!

We went to The Italian Kitchen on the last night of our week in North Devon, and without doubt it was the best meal we had out. Bruschetta for both to start with bread from the wood fired oven. My wife had pizza and the crust was perfect (so was the topping). I had cannelloni made with beef and pork mince, and I must say that without doubt it was the best I have ever had (in a restaurant) absolutely gorgeous. And with a bottle of wine and esspreso,s we still got change out of £50.

Outstanding atmosphere, genuinely friendly staff, and - importantly - great food and value for money. I’ll be back!

Visited with a friend for the first time. Was very quiet so the staff were very attentive. The menu is reasonably small , but the food was good and huge portions.

Tonight was our second visit (previously June, 2017) and we were as pleased as before. Charming staff and relaxed ambiance. Not an extensive menu but interesting and very reasonably priced - . good portion size, too.

Just stumbled across this and what a find. Beautifully cooked pasta dishes - cannelloni and tomato and basil fusilli, perfect flavours and well presented. Couldn’t resist Nutella pizza with vanilla ice cream, very delicious and unique. Great house red wine too. Felt very authentic and well put together with really good ambience. Great staff, just two of them doing a great job. Thoroughly recommend a visit.

I booked the Italian kitchen for a special birthday . There were 9 of us and we ordered the sharing platters- the food was amazing and plenty to go around. The staff were lovely and very attentive. The atmosphere was perfect, overall a great evening- definitely recommend!

We visited this restaurant twice whilst staying locally. The staff are friendly and provide good caring service. The food we had on both occasions was excellent. The restaurant was recommended to us by a couple we chatted to at a pub in Instow (they had been twice also). Well worth a visit.

The food was delicious, the staff were friendly and helpful. Nice coffee. Relaxed atmosphere well worth a visit. Reasonable price. The only two downsides to the place, was it needs a little decorating. And the pizza base was very thin, and a little soggy. Otherwise really good.

This evening I visited this restaurant alone as I’m staying in the area for work over the weekend. Every single member of staff was friendly and welcoming and absolutely worth their weight in gold! A lovely atmosphere and the pizzas are the best around! I’ll definitely come again if I return to the area. Thank you!!

Wonderful from start to finish. The friendly and welcoming atmosphere made us all feel at home. The food was so delicious, I even ordered a side dish of pasta to my pizza! Would thoroughly recommend, but I'd advise booking.

Managed to get in without a booking and so happy they let us. The food was delicious, the service was friendly and there was a delightful ambiance about the place.

Yet again, an excellent meal for the family. Ruth and Ali always give a warm welcome, the food is consistently good and the frascati and recently introduced cold, draft beer are superb. The pizzas are the best and our 6yo devours the cannelloni with relish, usually demolishing an adult portion she loves it so much. We saw several disappointed people just turning up, you need to book in the summer holidays!

Great Pizza (it's not as common as you think). Thin base, nutty, topping full of flavour. Well worth traveling to.

Out with the family, two littlies 5 and 7, loved the kids menu and the standard of the pizza was fantastic. Probably the best I’ve had in the UK. Lovely friendly service and a nice laid back atmosphere. Nabbed the only spare table on a Thursday of advanced bookings which is always a good sign. Highly recommended

What a wonderful restaurant for an authentic pizza. The staff were most accommodating, friendly and always there should you need them. A busy restaurant, although it is a Saturday, but you can see how popular the Italian Kitchen is. Fresh ingredients to a quality meal, completing a lovely experience. Self and famalam enjoyed a fantastic variety of meals in this lovely restaurant, this charming little gem was a treat to visit and the staff (including the owner) were a pleasure to be served by.

We have visited here on numerous occasions, as a couple, with friends and in a large group. The food is always excellent be it a pasta dish or pizza. On our most recent visit I had the Rigatoni which was delicious and slightly spicy while my wife had the Cannelloni which is always excellent (not sure why anyone would compare its size to that of a a supermarket ready meal!). We had the antipasti to start which is a good selection of meat, cheese and olives with a small salad garnish. Having eaten in many restaurants in Italy I can say the food, decor and ambiance are authenticically Italian. I definitely recommend The Italian Kitchen to anyone wanting a chilled evening with great food and good friendly service.

This is our ‘go to’ place for a lovely meal and atmosphere.We have been as a couple,with family and friends and every time the experience has been fantastic (family from away always want to come here).We were surprised to read a comment from a reviewer comparing the canelloni as too big compared with a ready meal - we have never had any problem eating the whole thing (and it is delicious!) Thoroughly recommend the restaurant and their lovely and friendly staff .

Having eaten at this wonderful Italian restaurant five years ago it was absolute delight to return again and experience once more the exquisite menu of authentic Italian food and lovely hospitality of the staff. The antipasti and cannelloni were simply magnificent, the best I've ever tasted.

Unlike the other Italian restaurant in Bideford it is not staffed by Italians. The food tries hard to be Italian but is not quite there yet. They need to make up their minds. The menu was divided as to Pizza, Non-pizza ans After Pizza. The last being desserts. A plate of antipasta was fairly interesting but had only a couple of strands of salad leaves. The main course was Cannelloni. It was tasty enough but huge. More than twice the amount you would get in a supermarket ready meal. It was unadorned. I would have expected a green side salad. The dessert chosen was Tiramisu. A taste of Amaretto lurking, but it came straight out of the fridge in a sort of sundae dish, so was too cold and it was adorned with four blueberries at the side of the plate. I saw no sign of people eating Pizza on the other tables. As they only open at 17.00 they are obviously not trying to tempt lunch-time trade.

Popular little place, you need to book.staff and chef very friendly and helpful.we both had pizzas which was made with fresh ingredients and freshly made on order. I did want a Hawaiian pizza but couldn't have as no pineapple. So opted for Margarita, which was lovely. Would 100%recommend this place

We found this through Trip Adviser while passing through Bideford. We would never have found it otherwise - it really is a hidden gem. It doesn’t look much from the outside either and it’s a pretty basic Italian menu. But don’t be put off. The food was excellent, the service was very good and the small cafe-style interior was very much like those small one/two room places you find in rural Italy. The pizzas were really really good. We eat well and very economically. A real hidden gem. Thank you!!!!
