The Italian Bakery Swanage in Purbeck

Excellent range of pastries and cakes, nice place to just enjoy a morning coffee. Pleasant staff. We visited every day we were in Swanage. Does get busy.

Passed this little gem as we arrived in Swanage for the week. Called in bought a loaf of bread that they kindly sliced, good job as there was no bread knife where we were staying. Two excellent pasties, for tea that night. Returned two more times Coffee Scone Cake Milk shake Friendly staff Lovely atmosphere

We always used to visit this bakery cafe as the menu was always enticing. Lots of tasty choices including fresh soups and a delicious meatball focaccia. With the updated, slimmed down, more expensive menu all of those choices are consigned to history! Everything now seems to come with chips ( and gravy!?!) and there are fewer light bite options. Also there’s nothing on the menu that even remotely speaks of Italian ingredients any more. Such a shame.

Live local so thought we'd give it a go and get a couple of slices of cake to take away. What a mistake. No acknowledgement from lady sweeping floor upon entering. Went to till and asked for a slice of Victoria Sandwich and Coffee Cake awful service, hardly with a smile ☺. Both slices just plonked in the same box hardly ideal if you have an allergy. Cake tasted synthetic, dry and extremely sweet would of been better off buying a whole cake from Budgens or Co op infact could of got 2 for the price of £7.00 charged. At least we know not to go there again, pity as only live round the corner

We were so disappointed in our visit today. What has happened to this once delightful café/bakery. ? It is our regular lunch spot when we come to Swanage for the day. We have often had delicious sandwiches here but today, despite the chalk board outside saying ‘fresh sandwiches’, we were told that there were no sandwiches, none were mentioned on the menu and clearly no one was prepared to make one. This news was delivered to us with very bad grace, so different from the friendly service we have been used to. What a shame. We left and had our sandwich elsewhere.

Delightful bakery, huge choice of cakes/pastries. Table service by a very friendly member of staff who made a personal effort with the children. Everyone enjoyed their cakes and coffee. We recieved table service and although they were busy we were served as soon as possible and with a smile. Would certainly recommend and return. We also bought a sourdough loaf to go which was delicious.

Joined the que,to be told we had to sit and wait for someone to serve you ,we waited for 10 mins and no one came,so we re joined the que again and was served !! What a joke ,sort yourself out !!
