The Honest Lawyer in North Lincolnshire

Website not working, Facebook page shows a menu and cocktails and different opening times, luckily messaged first, no food. Still went for cocktails but felt a little stupid when we asked for the cocktail list, "we don't really do cocktails", although he then said he could do a few so we had a pornstar, nice, but not a proper one, no prosecco shot with it. Lovely place, relaxing but disappointing and missing a trick. Also the idea of websites doesn't seem to have reached Scunthorpe yet!

Nice and quiet place to have a chat and taste the different types of beers which are not available elsewhere so its a thumbs up from us..😎🍺👍

Great dog friendly bar very small but really nicely done out. Service great. Food upstairs was really nice tapas. Beware the front door opens outwards so it can make you look an idiot pushing to get in 😂

Didn't have food on this visit but have done previously on the Greek night, really good food. Good beer, bit dearer than other pubs in area but don't mind paying that bit more for great friendly service.

We have just visited for the seafood night and honestly, I don’t think either of us have eaten better seafood (food)! It tasted beyond fresh and flavoursome and have paid a lot more in the past at other restaurants and it didn’t even compare. I wish more people had known about this night because they have really missed out on some great food I hope you continue to do these nights because we can’t wait to return! Thank you!

The staff are what makes this place so good. The food is lovely but you will stay for the atmosphere.

Calamari not prepared properly & batter on everything fried was under cooked & greasey. cheese & meat board came with cold pitta bread. Although when we asked we got other but only shop bought sliced.!!! My advice go for a drink but don't eat Sorry

Nice rotation and choice of hand pulled ales (and other beers for anyone else). Just what I like. Nice, local and friendly welcoming atmosphere definitely a must visit. Once you've been here you feel like you've been before and want to return. Very comforting. Great staff.

Garlic Bread starter - 1 small piece of stale bread with garlic mayo... The rest was even worse. Staff uninterested, in the start of a recession ideas, food and service will have to increase drastically if you are to stay in business, won't be seeing our business again... Wetherspoons would have offered far better value...

What a fantastic little place with a warm welcome from the locals, we popped in to watch a footy match and was so surprised how polite everyone was. They made room at the bar and even let us both take seats before them and so friendly. Amazing place with great beers on taps and we will use every time we’re in town..

Exceptional 😘 Lovely warm welcome from Daniel behind the bar. Great range of drinks including cocktails 🍹 We ate upstairs in the restaurant really nice tapas and puddings. Our waitress was the lovely Holly, very friendly and helpful with our choices. I’ll definitely recommend and will be returning soon.

Very nice but some portions a bit on the small side

This was great, nice to see a local pub in good hands again with decent food. I wasn't sure about the fusion element of the menu but was pleasantly surprised. Decent range of beers and it was nicely divided between the pub downstairs and the restaurant upstairs.

Booked in for the tapas with partner, her son & his girlfriend. Friendly greeting from Dan behind the bar. Good selection of drinks available at a good price. Ventured up to the restaurant upstairs, greeted and seated by a friendly waitress. Good selection on the tapas menu to suit all pallets. The food came out well presented, we were all highly satisfied with our meal and the night in general. Will definitely be going back soon. Highly recommended

Ate here as a group of six, waiter very attentive, wonderful tapas and desserts. Recommend.

We dined at the Honest Lawyer with a group of friends on Saturday evening - our first visit. We had heard good things about this restaurant (which is a part of the Take a Gander restaurant group), so we thought we’d try it for ourselves. We each picked two or three dishes from the extensive menu, and ordered a few more as the evening progressed. We sampled the salt and pepper squid, chorizo, lamb chops, meatballs, meat and cheese sharing board, and garlic prawns, together with potatoes, fries and bread boards. Everything we tried was delicious including the wine, and the desserts (lemon cheesecake and churros with chocolate dip). This is a lovely informal way to dine with friends, sampling a bit of each dish with food being brought to the table at frequent intervals. The wait-staff were very attentive and responsive to our requests - big thanks to them for helping to make our evening great fun!

Two couples, we dined early Saturday evening. The Tapas was exceptional, nicely presented and delivered in a timely fashion. The ambiance was welcoming and the staff equally warm.

First time in for donkeys years, pleasant staff, good ales

Came here last week to try the new tapas menu. Disappointingly underwhelmed as both the food and service had room for improvement. Some dishes were good such as the salt and pepper squid, the free fresh bread, the sausage but others were very average. The service has room for improvement. One of the dishes served was wrong, the dishes came out one or two at a time over a period of time (I accept an odd one may come later but 85-90% should come out together imho) and the white wine was served at room temperature. I recognise its newly opened but it’s basic stuff they can be corrected quickly if only there was someone who was seemingly in charge - a lack of such an individual makes me concerned they will improve as quickly as they need to, to entice repeat visits

We had to check out the new tapas menu and we was not disappointed! Delicious food, great service and very reasonably priced. Very tasty, both left absolutely stuffed … we will be back! Ps …. Meatballs were positioned much more pleasingly than this photo! We’d moved them before taking photos!!!

Called in for food only to discover that they don’t do food but still a nice bar. Even though the football was on, it was still a nice atmosphere where you could comfortably talk.

Miserable barmaid. 🤡 Otherwise OK for drinks. OTT with social distancing, nearly empty, but couldn't sit in a group of eight. Yet the barman approaches the tables with his mask not covering his nostrils🤔🙄

I guess when you’re the only ones eating, it says it all and you should walk back out! Greasy deep fried food, not the best. Service was ok but not impressed and won’t go back.

Well as it was nice and sunny it was a no brainer to sit outside here for a couple of beers. We had to leave contact details at the bar which had screens to protect bar staff/ customers. Will look forward to our next visit!

In general terms it's fine, sometimes better than that during events but on average it's no better/worse than anywhere else

This public house is clean, friendly slightly expensive - why is it in Scunthorpe? This inn is so much better than the place deserves. This inn is on a par with Highfield House (near the police station) both too good for Scunthorpe

Called in for a quick drink. Decent bar, with friendly staff. Nice to sit outside on a sunny afternoon. Bit dearer than the Wetherspoons up the road, and perhaps thats why it wasnt very busy, but worth a visit

I was looking forward to visiting as the Honest Lawyer looked to be the only place serving craft beer in Scunthorpe. Most of the hand pumps were covered up when i arrived and I think the choice was limited to Wainwright and a couple of bitters on cask. Not my favourite but I ordered a Wainwright and thankfully I had the foresight to just order a half as it was well past its end of life and tasted like vinegar. Had two sips and left. Maybe ok for food but look elsewhere (outside of Scunthorpe) of you want a decent beer.

As described above. Nothing to shout about. Very disappointed with the limited choice. Always willing to give places like this a chance but don't think we will visit again.

As soon as i walk in i was greeted by a friendly smile and the atmosphere was brilliant, was seated very quickly to say the restaurant was quite busy, all i heard when seated was good comments about the food from other people dining here. I ordered the salmon at it was cooked perfectly! Absolutely amazing, my friends had the fillet steak and lasagna and they were also very pleased, ‘best steak in town’ will most definitely be visiting again. After trying to find a nice place to eat in Scunthorpe i have finally found one. Very rare i leave reviews but i would 100% recommend.

Wrong menu online which was the basis of our booking and new menu is very limited. The three of us then decided to go to a Indian restaurant and we honestly got more for less money. Food prices too high such as £14.95 for a lasagne which was maybe the only thing I would of chosen from their choices, most starters are even £6. I will not be returning at least not to eat.

Honestly the worst “freshly” cooked salmon I’ve ever had. The Salmon was well over done and the rice wasn’t cooked with absolutely no flavour what so ever. The veg was also horrible. I never complain and I have never written a review but this was so bad I had too. £15:95!! Unbelievable!

It’s a good place but something is missing, everything seems a little clinical, especially when you go through the doors to the toilet, it seems like you are in a school or hospital. Decent beer choices and friendly staff however. In general good but lacking in a little bit of character that would make it great

Tried this one Saturday night and the food was great, prices are good and reasonable. Presentation of food was good and it arrived quickly although the place quiet. Would definitely try it again....

Very disappointed yesterday went in their specifically (on my once a season away trip) because I know they do real ale, only to discover they had none on what so ever. 😢

Well, having eaten here years ago it was great to see it re-open so we had to try it. I`m not one for `establishment bashing` wishing to give both good and bad and a balanced view so here goes. Firstly we were delighted to be able to get a table at very short notice (it was not busy anyway but still, it was a good start). Our eldest daughter was taking us out for lunch and it was good to get a table straight away.

Expensive on a pint,but ideal to get away if you want to watch a game.

Visited this place for Sunday dinner with my partner, serendipity aka happy accident. We were passing by and noticed a sign advertising their restaurant, we were on our way to a chain pub for some food but decided against it after we were told by the barman after our enquiry that they serve a homemade fresh Sunday dinner and we are glad we did! The restaurant looked lovely, the barman made us feel welcome and showed us upstairs, the waitress who took our order was very polite and helpful and served us our drinks etc at the table and took our order. I ordered the beef whilst my partner opted for the chicken and I must say was delicious, freshly made as we could tell by appearance and taste. Very good atmosphere and decor, even better service and food! We will be here more often for food and we highly suggest more people to stumble across The Honest Lawyer and decide against the chain pubs of today for a taste of a vintage yet tasteful modern experience. If I was to be asked what the rating out of 10 would be, I'd have to vote for 11!

Was nice to have a beer sat out side in the sun in a February

We went for Sunday dinner a couple of weeks ago,we got a drink from the bar on our way up to the restaurant,pleasant polite staff,good atmospher,welcoming,we went upstairs and ordered our food,there wasn't a long wait,there was my partner and I,and two children,myself and my partner had a Sunday dinner each and there was plenty of food,fresh,cooked beautifully,home made Yorkshire pudding,two good sized pieces of chicken breast,no gristle whatsoever,my partner had the beef which was equally as good ,the children had burger and chips and were described as 'amazing ' ,the youngest even said it was his 'best burger ever',the chef and waitress were both very friendly ,attentive and polite, smart in appearance,the whole place was clean,good atmosphere, very relaxing up there,no complaints whatsoever, will definitely be going for a meal again, good food,good atmosphere, welcoming,friendly and worth every penny ..

Great place. I was unsure at first as I was looking for a wetherspoons near there but I'm glad I went in! Nice people, staff and prices. Would recommend 👍 as it incurs a toll and a 40min drive, let's just say I'll definitely be going back

I went while visiting some friends in Scunthorpe and decided to go here for Sunday lunch. Fortunately there was a vegan option for me which was a lovely lentil burger. My friends all opted for the Sunday lunch which they said was great. The food was good so we decided to stay for pudding, and the portions were enormous! There was another vegan option for me too - vegan ice cream which I was very happy with. If you want somewhere that everyone can eat and will enjoy then I highly recommend The Honest Lawyer. Next time I visit Scunthorpe I will be back!

This has been my local since opening and as now I live in the USA, whenever I am visiting “home” the Honest Lawyer is my go to place.

Heard whispers about this place from some work colleagues, thought I'd give it a go. Came in on a Wednesday for some food and was greeted by the young man behind the bar (didn't get his name, quite tall with glasses) and got a round of drinks which were recommended to me. I've got to say, it was very refreshing to engage in a conversation with someone on the other side of the bar instead of just the usual service you get in your chain pubs.

First meal out as a couple in almost 3 years, very much looking forward to it, booked a table here as it was in town so ideal for after drinks and dancing.

very disappointed got in there and it was all blase like there's no food and till Wednesday I went on the website we walk 4 miles for nothing not happy at all would never go back avoid this place.

Small lovely pub, just situated around the corner from the train station, just to have the last couple of drinks before going home.
