THE GREAT WALL in Shetland Islands

Service was ok, friendly & efficient. The only downside was the waiter bringing the dessert as he had his thumb on the ingredient. Needs more training, just too casual for me.

We came here for dinner. We were attended by two different waitresses whom both made mistakes and did not communicate with each other. The food was alright, but the service was very disappointing

Booked over the phone and staff were pragmatic and prompt. Order o aromatic crispy duck was syuperb. Wings along with the main were better than you'd expect at home wae me. Finished off with an aperol spritz tizer quantro aperetif. Recommend tae the moon an beck.

Awful Chinese food, not authentic

Starters were lovely although the staff member asked if we had finished when she could clearly see I was still eating it which made me feel awkward. We were rushed into having our mains straight after the starters. Staff congreated in the corner discussing how glad they didn't have any big groups to deal with. We were not in the restaurant even an hour so was a very rushed unpleasant experience. I would look into changing your staff as other reviews before me have suggested. £55 later not happy would not recommend.

Great food, service was good and reasonable priced

Unfortunately, my Thai green curry, was Gray lacked any flavour and warmed up in the microwave. My egg fried rice is cold and also reheated will not be returning here again

Fabulous. Superb. Staff are professional and hospitable. Probably the most authentic Chinese taste in the UK! 味道太正了，合我的中国胃。

The food quality is so-so and not tauthentic at all. Over priced and over charged.

Brilliant meal and service, food was very tasty even when there was a mix up with a dish it was dealt with very quickly which was fantastic. I would highly recommend food is brilliant here

Our usual takeaway was closed due to holidays so thought we’d give The Great Wall a try. Immensely disappointed - the prawn crackers were soft and tasted musty. The spare ribs also tasted days old. Our main courses were totally tasteless and had a ‘floury’ taste to them. The only positive was the steamed rice. We actually binned the food after a few mouthfuls for fear of the possible repercussions to our digestive systems.

The food was ok. Staff really made us feel unwelcome to busy play fighting and generally messing about.

We were the only people in the restaurant at about 7.30pm staff were slow dealing with us and spent more time on their phones, play fighting loudly in the restaurant area and playing pattacake loudly also, food was nice but shame about the staff, they took about 30mins to clear our starter plates, and when we wanted more drinks we had to go over and disturb them. I definitely would not recommend and will not be returning. I think management need to look into the staff.

Went here with my 2 daughters on Friday 5th May.I had just a basic chicken curry It was outstanding !!! flavour was extremely tasty,nice heat to it. Young waiting staff were friendly and very efficient.Loved this place superb !!

Food served was nice, but we ordered a set menu and it was all just a bit bland and samey. The biggest let down was the table wasn't clean ,very greasy and covered in fingerprints. The menus were a bit tattered and past their use by date. Would expect more for the price which was £30 per head🤔

Food was average compared to the price. Starter was £23 and seemed undercooked. It was a prawn starter. No-one seemed to know what was available or what price. Mains were not great either. It’s was priced as a gourmet meal but standard of the food was average

Went to The Great Wall Chinese restaurant with a family group for dinner. The staff were friendly and attentive and we had a very good meal. A few of our group said the food could have been hotter but overall a nice place for a meal. Would recommend.

Had a birthday meal here as there was a limited choice of places open. Great setting but the place was dead by 7pm so we felt quite rushed to get out. All teenage staff on shift arguing with each other and loudly proclaiming they were "too busy" to help colleagues run food/clear tables. Phones being used behind the bar despite a clear sign prohibiting staff use during a shift. Food was ok but bizarre to have no veg through a dish. Having worked as a waitress while at Uni, we would have been disciplined had we been caught breaking rules, being rude to and arguing with each other in full view of paying customers.

Atmospheric interior with music in the background which enhanced the overall ambience. Service was superfast and attentive. Food was excellent, as was the wine and prosecco. Three of us visited on a Wed at 17:00. Thoroughly recommend a visit (or two).

Nice for a meal, friendly staff, reasonable prices

Maybe chef had Covid and can’t taste how much salt they use.

This place used to be good… Came after it reopened, got served a couple of dishes so salty, you could distill them and use all the salt at home for a month… accidents happen, but… I’ve asked the server to replace the meal because it was inedible (and I like it quite salty!) They’ve taken the dish away.. added a bunch of water and brought it back, this made pretty much zero difference to the taste, but a lot of difference to my opinion if this restaurant. Too hungry and too tired to argue with them again at that point. Adding a picture of the water left after eating the Chow Mein “soup edition”. P.S.: Adding a bit of water really does not fix the issue. Please remember this. P.S2.: After all of this, they’ve actually tried to charge us twice, for the same exact dish… P.S3.: I have discussed this with who I assume was the floor manager. The only response was “ah, okay, they really shouldn’t have done that. I will tell them not to do this next time.”

We have been here many times and always really enjoy the food and the atmosphere. Great Chinese restaurant.

Ordered Korean bbq chicken with salt and pepper chips and egg fried rice and it was lovely. Very well cooked and the chicken came out on a sizzling plate so it was nice and hot. Would recommend coming here if you're a late night eater ad most places stop serving after 8 for some reason. Nice selection of beers too.

Had a wonderful meal at the Great Wall tonight. Although busy the service was excellent, no problem with ordering our starters and sometime later our mains. Food was delicious, hot and tasty. Will certainly go back.

The food is always very good. The waiting staff are efficient and fast and pleasant. Good selection of spirits , beers limited to cans and bottles but cold.

Tasty food and very attentive service.

This was our second visit to this restaurant (the first in 2019) and we weren't disappointed. Despite the Covid restrictions the restaurant was warm and welcoming on a wet and cold Sunday evening. The staff are friendly and there is a great drinks selection at the bar. The food was delicious and the portions were just the right size. The restaurant is located over the bus station so is slightly off the main streets but it is definitely worth a visit!

The duck and pancakes was delicious but the rest of the meal wasn't very tasty and the staff were difficult to get hold of when we wanted another drink so we didn't get another one. We won't be back it wasn't very warm either

Please go here. We visited Lerwick in Shetland and had no desire to cook after an interesting travel experience, Loganair you know Why!. I visited on the day of our arrival looking as a takeaway option based on recommendations, everything was so easy. New menu and due to umderstandable restrictions that night, pick up only. Food was amazing, well priced super hot and fresh. We had veg and Chicken options, everything was superb and well priced. See you on our return for sure. Andrew

Big menu and great wine selection

Wow what meal! Whole family was really impressed. The ribs I had for a starter were tender, salty and spicy. I cook alot of ribs so I normally won't order other people's but mine were excellent. The beautiful wife had scallops as her main and said they were devine. Kids ate all their dinners and really enjoyed it. Very pleased we went here on a whim.

I feel so grateful that we found this Cantonese restaurant in Shetland and had real seafood meal finally! HK people are so crazy for seafood! But It’s hard to find seafood restaurant in Shetland yet Great Wall catered to make Hong Kong style dishes for us such as shell on Lobster fried noodles, steam fish, steam egg white crabs, and local HK style fried beef etc. But their usual dishes such as lemon chicken, fried wanton, dim sum, seafood soup are very nice too. They’re super busy on Friday and weekends so be sure to make reservations in advance. But if you go during weekdays sure you’ll got better attention from managers, that’s why we usually go during weekday nights. Both manager and owner very friendly and welcoming, hope we’ll be back one day.

Well one year on I decided to take my family to Great Wall for an eat in meal. The food was very disappointing, every dish seemed over salted and lacking in distinctive flavours. The service from, what appeared to be the Manageress/owner was verging on surly...obviously not happy to accommodate a table of seven early in the evening. Won't be rushing back again.

Maybe we caught them on a bad night but this was not a 4.5 star experience. Ordered a wonton noodle soup, prawn toast and tempura soft shell crab. The noodles were soggy, way too much sesame oil in the soup and the wonton were tiny and had nothing but high fat pork in them, no ginger or prawn that I could taste or see. The toast was ok, the crab seems to have been done in plain batter but not tempura and weren't exactly bursting with flavour, just a lot of oil and water, making me wonder if they were fried from frozen. The teapots pour so poorly you end up with a puddle. Unlikely to come back, sorry.

The restaurant was quite quiet on a Monday night so good for spacial separation. We had Salad Prawns and Naked Shredded Chicken for starters, with Roast Duck Hoi Sin and Honey and Sesame Seed Chicken for mains. The Salad Prawns I have had before, and they are SUPERB! All the other dishes were piping hot, and so tasty. The Sauvignon Blanc washed everything down nicely. Staff friendly and chatty, prices very reasonable- currently my go-to Chinese choice!

Ate here two consecutive nights. Each time the dishes we ordered we freshly cooked and tasty. The special sizzling platter described as volcanic was surprisingly as spicy as I like ie pretty hot! Unusual in a regular Chinese to find enough spice or chilli added....

Food was brilliant. Been here about 25 year ago, don't know why I left it so late. Will be back.

I visit here every time I’m in Shetland. Great food with vast menu. Nice staff with a fast service and nothing is a problem. You won’t be disappointed, looking forward to my next visit 😋

First time trying and the service was great, food was tasty and hot. I had the crispy wonton (tasted like pork, usually I've had had prawn) also had pork satay with noodles. Was all very tasty. Would like to try more from full menu as I was there for lunch.

We were on holiday in Lerwick and spotted the restaurant above the bus station. The meal was excellent and well priced. As it was our last night we treated ourselves to hot hors d'oeuvres, duck, a couple of main dishes, rice and noodles. Everything arrived...

Average at best. We were there from 12am till 2 pm. Wouldn't come back

Tasty food. We had just some takeaway. Friendly woman at the counter. I showed here a picture of beef steak wirh onions. It is not anymore on the menu, but they cooked it for me. It was very tender and tasty. We paid much more for a tasteless and chewy steak at a hotel restaurant in Lerwick.

So we attended here on Friday the 14th of February in the evening after a very emotional day the food was out of this world the very best I’ve ever had and this was definitely agreed by a party of four service was fantastic and it was really nice to see the owner out talking to regulars beautiful clean place will look forward to my next visit here when we come to Shetland again

Lovely meal during Christmas holidays. Staff very friendly . Gift of a calendar a nice touch with fortune cookies. We have been coming to The Great Wall for many years and never had a bad meal. A family favourite.

Decided to head in here for dinner on a Tuesday evening. The place was bustling, and we soon found out why. An extensive, but not expensive, Chinese and Thai menu included a number of items I'd never tried before. Food was hot and tasty. Service was excellent too - fast and friendly, and a minor query on the bill was sorted with no fuss and an apology for the mistake (which was VERY minor).Definitely recommend if you're in Lerwick and looking for some nice Asian food.
