The Golden Anchor in Merton

My daughter lives nearby and I've popped in with my little grandson many times . Love the place. A nice family run business with genuine good friendly customer service. The food is generous and delicious and I cannot fault this hard working family for their efforts to keeping their customers satisfied.

Decided to go here on the way to a game, instantly get a welcome, get our seats, fork and knife, that got this place 4 stars. Fish and Chips came and it was lovely, the ketchup (apparently specially made for the fish and chips) was amazing. Fish was better than amazing, the chips too. The owner was very friendly, he's formed a place that is top tier. Would 100% recommend this place as your regular fish and chips, no wonder there's no reviews under 4 stars!

Excellent fish and chips! Always freshly cooked to order. Had a visiting family from abroad and ordered for them all ,and every one thoroughly enjoyed it! Lovely succulent cod and chips , freshly fried and not greasy , and generous portions. Always friendly and welcoming, and even giving a free complimentary large bottle of lemonade for the visiting kids. Highly recommended !

Best fish & chips I have ever had. Good price and fantastic service. They have perfect chippy chips. Got that crunchy but chewy thing going on with the outside. Hand cut good quality potatoes. Perfect fish too! Very fresh. Big juicy flakes with crunchy non greasy batter. Lovely owner who can tell you everything you want to know about your meal. Worth the visit. I’ll be revisiting.

Hands down the best fish and chips I’ve had in London. We ordered via JustEat for delivery last night and it was 10/10. Big portions, freshly cooked, crispy and piping hot when it arrived. Not at all greasy like some other places I’ve tried. So glad we took a risk and ordered for the first time, this will be my new regular!

Ordered from this place and it was simply fantastic. The fish was cooked to perfection.. crispy batter, flaky fish that melts in your mouth, and no drippy grease! The owner even called me up later to check everything was OK... now that's what I call top class service!

Absolutely fantastic and delicious fish & chips freshly cooked. My friend and I have take away and have little chat with owner. He is very welcoming and smiling personality. Highly recommended !

The food was great, but what will really make you want to come back is the wonderful staff. The owner is quite the character and definitely takes care of the customer with very generous portion sizes and high quality food. I would recommend this place to anyone.

I Previously ony left a 5 star review... What i didn't mention was the fresh lovely food . Family run business that must be supported in a world full of corporate eateries. This place is a source of proper soul food. Go on, put a smile on your face and enjoy.

They don't offer cod and chips together you have to buy them separately. The manager was dismissive so customer service is also lacking

One of the very best fish and chips you will ever have. Cooked to perfection, thin and crispy batter with no oil residue. The haddock was delicious and fresh. A 70 years old family business, the owner is very passionate, informative and kind. We're so glad we found this place. He gave us a free piece of hake, just to get our feedback and promote more types of sustainable fish, which is positive for the environment. Highly recommended

Nice people but unfortunately the cod I had was wet and slimy and didn't taste like fish , the chips were very soggy too . And if you like cod and chips like I do , then you can only but try for yourself . I will give it one more try and if I ain't satisfied the next time I will not be using it again , and one more thing is it is quite expensive.

Amazing, fresh, beautiful and quality food. Service lovely and friendly. I drove out of my way and passed 3 other chip shops and so worth it. Feeding a group so had cod, sausage in batter, stake pie and cod bites, all was stunning. Thank you lou and team.

Lou and Ellies fish and chips are amazing really fresh fish good quality food, consistent everytime, and to top it off its super clean and really friendly service Ive been coming here since the day they opened.

When i went to order fish & chip, the owner said make a telephone order so you dont have to wait. It will be ready when you come. On the other day i made a telephone order, and the lady on phone said it will be ready in 15min. When i went there after 15 min, the que is long and they made me to wait half an hour in the que until my turn. Then after they cooked my food. What is the point of making telephone order? Please makesure when you are handling money not to touch the food. When i was waiting i saw they didnt wash hands, and when packing handling the food with hand. The owner is very good. I want to give 5 *. But these things made me upset.

Myself and my family love this chip shop. The food is amazing and the owners are such lovely people. I can highly recommend the cod sticks as my children have them all the time. Highly recommend this chip shop and all the food cooked by the lovely master fryer Lou.

Had a craving for fish and chips, I wasn't disappointed. Still crispy by the time I got home. I got the normal sized cod which was huge (see photo). Friendly staff. Highly recommended.

I visited Golden Anchor yesterday after 5 or 6 years. Everything was exactly as I remembered - excellent food, very generous portions, extremely friendly owners! I cannot recommend Golden Anchor enough for all Fish&Chips fans, you will not be dissapointed!

Gluten Free (only on Wednesdays), fresh and super delicious! Crispy, not oily - everything you want good quality fish and chips to be. They won't disappoint! The owner did mention the demand for GF was down, so please support them or it may stop! That would be a real shame

For £12 you can get cod, chips and sausage in batter. That's a meal for a day or 2, and it's really nice. They serve ice cream there too.

We got takeaway (collection) fish and chips from the Golden Anchor for the first time last night. Large cod and regular chips. Generously portioned (ie massive) fish (big enough for my wife and I to share) and enough chips for us to share, too. Everything was cooked beautifully and well packed. The service was also very friendly. We're both highly impressed and will be back soon.

I ordered from the Golden Anchor through Just Eat because of the amazing reviews and 5 star rating! There were some issues with my order caused entirely by Just Eat (nothing to do with the Golden Anchor). I called them to ask about my order and spoke to a lovely lady, Mel, and the owner Louis. They were so helpful and kind, and Mel personally delivered my order to me on her way home from work. I'd give 10 stars if I could - the best customer service ever. The food was also really tasty and very reasonably priced! Thank you Golden Anchor :)

Used Golden Anchor after Mitcham Neighbour app said how good the fish n chips was,, wasn't dissaponted, Cod and chips n mushey peas was piping hot and very nice, and tasty, would recommend. Ps got it delivered Tamworth Lane

This place was amazing! Lives up to all the hype. Also the owner makes you feel like one of the locals and will make you wish you lived here if you don't.

Ordered on Just Eat. Saw that there was no Cod and Chips option so presumed that the "£8 cod - medium" included chips... turns out it did not and we ended up receiving just 2 cod fillets. 2 stars because the cod was decent, but it would have tasted a lot better if I didn't feel a little deceived and ripped off. If you must eat here, make sure you order separate chips. Seems like a no brainer, but the lack of a combination option did catch me out.

All sustainable and go for the fish special that’s on. The Hake was top quality, I was shown the fish and asked what cut I wanted. Lovely little touch.

The store owner “Lou” was extremely rude and patronising and the chips were undercooked, unacceptable for a restaurant. We left feeling awful and disappointed.
