Well I wasn't expecting that! Came in for quick coffee and almost decided not to have a bite to eat when i saw the prices... but glad I did. They went out their way to make a ham and cheese toastie At first I thought it was a tad expensive until it arrived... lovely side salad with plain crisps and plain vinegarette. Even the chocolate on the cappuccino was lovely. Definitely recommend the Gates.

I'm a regular customer at the Gates. Its brilliant place serving fabulous food and drink. The staff are so helpful and friendly. Its a great place to catch up with friends for lunch. I love it. They also let well behaved dogs in too.

Lovely cafe. I'd been past many times, and it's only recently I've been in. Each time I've been, it's been great. The staff are welcoming and friendly and the food is lovely. The sausage butties are yummy! Asl had some lovely cake here, too! At the moment they have some special hot winter drinks. I had a lovely spiced apple one the other day, and my hubby likes the coffee's. There is also an opportunity to buy local products here. I got some honey here, which was delicious. They also have gifts, candles, jewellery, and crafts that local people have made. I picked up a little Xmas decoration. The crafts are cash only, but the cafe does accept cards for food. You can ring ahead and book a table, sometimes advisable as it's a popular place. As you walk in, they have a photo board of all the doggy visitors they've had as they are always welcome. Such a nice touch. I would recommend this place to anyone xxx

Always nice this place, proper home-made cakes and slices and good coffee too. Dog friendly too with a wall of smiley dog faces to check out!! We'll be back soon.

Noticed this place as I parked outside whilst visiting a relative in the hospital. The place itself is just a short walk from the hospital and the decor, ambiance and friendly service make it a true oasis in which to take a break from the hospital environment! A warm friendly greeting and efficient service was appreciated. The price and value for the food and drinks I’d describe as good. I will certainly be returning any time I am visiting the hospital!

Absolutely awful food. Visited The Gates when it was first opened after being taken over from the previous owner when it was named The Allotment. Went for lunch with my partner and had a Tuna salad sandwich each. Could have made it better myself at home. Cheap supermarket own brand bread and very thin with cheap tasting Tuna. Unappetising and unpleasant. Never returned until yesterday for breakfast for Mother's Day. Ordered a bacon sandwich but it was called "Butty" which I instantly thought cringe! With thick cut bread. My eye thick cut. Again cheap thin cut supermarket bread. The bacon, well it was like a sheet of metal and you could bang it on the table and it made the table shake. Awful and inedible. I took it back and said it was rock hard. The waitress apologised and did offer another but I said no. So just had a pot of tea which was nice. My partner had a teacake which he said was ok. The other waitress did come out and again apologised and said my order had got mixed up with another customer who had ordered their bacon well done. But there was nobody else in. I wonder why? Will not be going there again and I certainly do not recommend it for breakfast or lunch as the food is terrible.
