Great service from staff, couldn’t do enough for us, both very friendly. Staff kindly lit the fire for us, and moved us closer to the fireplace. Food was delicious, piping hot. We had breakfast in Fox and Hounds on Sunday 14th October 2024. The full Scottish breakfast was the best ever, really nice food, plenty off it, great value. Poached egg with Avocado and horseradish sauce which was all delicious. We would highly recommend this pub. Clean, staff very pleasant and helpful. Would certainly call again, if we were in the area. I had my husband’s 40th birthday party at the Fox & Hounds in the Hunters Bar lounge. Lauren the manager was very helpful, organised and accommodating when I was planning the party. The staff there were all very attentive and helpful. We had about 40 guests in total including children and they all said that the service and food was excellent! My 9yr old son even said that he wanted to have his birthday party there next year! lol Definitely a great place to have a party.

Booked for a family birthday meal and the food and service was amazing. I am celiac, and normally am offered either rissotto or fish as the gluten free option. Not so at the Fox and Hounds, where there were so many options to choose from. I had the fish and chips which was very tasty and so filling I couldn’t eat anything else. Everyone else really enjoyed their meals too and the staff were not only very knowledgable, but friendly and attentive. The restaurant has lovely decor and was comfortable and modern. There was a slight wait for courses, but we were a large group and appreciated the fresh food cooked to order and were happy to take our time and enjoy all this excellent pub has to offer - highly recommended!

Worst food I've had in a long time. Made a reservation for the restaurant. We were put in the pub near the door which was open making it cold inside the pub. I had the beef stew with dumpling. The dumpling was inedible. Hard as a rock. 2 people asked for the chicken burger which was dry. One asked for several things to be left off the chicken burger, but they were added anyway. We had been to Carriages before it closed so chose this place as we thought it would be similar standard of food, but it is not. Food was lukewarm. The main courses were so bad that we skipped the dessert. Also, service was extremely slow.

Traditional setting, immaculately maintained. Own car park and nice beer garden (but not for today’s weather!). Staff were warm and welcoming, menu extensive and food the hero. Set menu for lunch offered up a saving but we went for the full menu. Every dish landed (from mussels to steak tacos to mac and cheese to steak pie). Desserts were huge and well worth the indulgence. Would recommend.

Ordered two bloomer sandwiches for lunch. They came and it was two sad toasties obviously using Warbutons bread rather than bloomer loaf. If this was £5, fair enough, but c£9 it was a disgrace. Returned them on the basis that it was not as advertised and the was told that it definitely was bloomer bread. We paid for our drinks and went across to the Houston Inn.

What an awesome little pub in the countryside. A group of us visited with a friend who has family there, so we got to experience this absolute gem of a pub. The staff were awesome and friendly, and the food had big portions for the price. My spouse and I shares the haggis pakora and seafood tacos, and they were delicious! The malt of the moment is a great deal for whatever bottle they have open, and when we were there we were given the choice of the next bottle they would open. So just another awesome thing the staff did that made the experience more special.

A very unfortunate visit. Booked a table for the restaurant, over a week beforehand, to celebrate mother in law’s 94th birthday. The venue was m in law’s choice. On arrival, we were informed the restaurant was not in use due there being a funeral next day and staff were preparing for it. Not really what a 94 year old wants to hear on her birthday! We were shown to a small table some 6 feet from the bar where a group of locals gathered to exchange stories etc. No problem with that, except paying restaurant prices for a bar meal. I can go to a Brewers Fayre to do that and pay much less. Although a member of staff indicated he could “throw an extra table up” in the restaurant, we decided enough was enough and went elsewhere. Maybe Fox and Hounds could have informed us beforehand, who knows? But a disappointing start to celebrate a 94th birthday. Can’t say we would entertain a visit there again

Waited approximately 30 minutes for starters, then a few minutes into our starters they brought our main courses out, all of which were not enjoyable, particularly the 'fishcakes' for 9 pounds, which turned out to be 1 measly individual fishcake. The place was so cold we didn't take our jackets off, asked them to turn the heating on which they did for all of 10 minutes. Food below average terrible organisation. Only positive I can leave is that the staff were nice and friendly.

Atmosphere was lovely. Good priced drinks and dog friendly. Food however unfortunately let it down. We had vegetable madras with nan which was burnt and vegetable kebabs. The veg was cooked lovely but plain boiled rice and no seasoning on the veg kebab for £15 is a rip off. Disappointing to be honest and could have had a nicer meal elsewhere I'm afraid. Would come back for a drink but advise food elsewhere especially if vegetarian or vegan.

Really nice decor and menu. Service was almost non existent in the restaurant area. Food took a while (40 mins) to come out which I understand if it’s busy, but there were only 2 other tables (also long waits/service issues) Food was pretty decent so I have no complaints there. After plates were taken from mains, no staff were to be seen ie ‘would you like coffee/desserts/bills etc’ When a member of staff finally appeared and we asked for the bill, we were told ‘I’m on my break the now’ before getting the tab, and proceeded to have their meal in the restaurant. Not an issue with staff having a break, but when you’ve waited ages for any staff to appear and you ask for the bill that’s not a good answer or look. Waited a further 15-20 minutes before I had to go get the staff in the front bar to send someone in so we could pay our bill. A little bit of attentiveness in the restaurant would go a long way.

They never had a lot of things on their menu. We never got our food for an hour after we ordered it. My parents liked thier food. My dish of smoked haddock with mashed potatoes and a sauce had far too much sauce and was more like a soup! I couldn't see any mashed as it disappeared into the sauce. To be fair to them I didn't complain about it as I was very hungry and it took 1 hour to get the food in the first place. The white wine was very nice. We never ordered dessert as they ran out of vanilla ice cream. They were nice enough not to charge for a dessert my son ordered for different ice cream flavours. We would have spent more but most of us didn't get dessert

We love the Fox and like the new coffee range that was on last week. The only criticism is the rolls have changed to the soft doughy type that you might have with soup as opposed to the Morton’s type crispy that are preferable to us. Or maybe give a choice. And I asked for fried tomato and it came cold sliced on the side as opposed to coming roasted on the vine which I’m sure was previously available. Other than that a super place for breakfast. We shall be back after our holidays.

My wife had been on holiday, and I was left to feed the kids, so before going to the airport, thought I would treat them to a meal out. It was pretty much on a whim, and with the Scotland v England rugby match on tv, almost everywhere we tried was packed. We were just about to give up and make do with a Burger King, but we had one more try at the Fox and Hounds. Thankfully they were able to accommodate us, and we were able to get a excellent meal. Fantastic value for children's menu, and very generous portions. Loved the rustic country pub settings, and while a little out of the way, very much worth going out of your way to visit for a great meal.

The Fox has been my local for many years, but today was the first time I'd had afternoon tea. I've had a fair number of afternoon teas before but I'd say this one was probably the best. We visited the Fox & Hounds for a Friday night dinner with friends. The menu has changed significantly since a previous visit a couple of years ago and now seems focussed on quality BBQ cooking. I had the opportunity to speak to the chef before we ordered - very friendly and approachable - and asked his advice regarding choosing a steak. Accepting his recommendation of the T-bone cooked medium rare, I was delighted with it - fabulously rich flavour and you could have cut it with a butter knife. I've had marginally better on visits to the USA but, never as good as this in the UK. My wife chose a swordfish steak and was equally delighted with what she received. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable, especially helping with choosing wines that succeeded in complementing our food choices. We'll be back.

Food was terrible. Chicken burger chicken was dry (I didn't take the cheese due to an allergy) and was in a supermarket type roll - £15.95! Other meals weren't much better. Such a shame because it used to be amazing in the Fox. Needs to up its game if it's to compete with the Houston and River Inns. You can't survive on your name alone. Hopefully it was just an off day though

Family lunch - pretty standard stuff with the usual pub menu. All were well received bar some minor points - prawn salads were small (not the prawns, the quantity). The Caesar salad not having any parmesan or other hard cheese. Nachos went down very well, although adding £4.75 for bacon and haggis extra's, it was not worth the uplift. The cheeseboard was basic and served without indication from staff what cheese was on offer - although it was served with a nice port. No carbonated drinks available (on the day) with the associated markup at £2.70 a can. It all felt just a little marked up for the quality on offer.

Really Disappointed with my lunch today. Ordered a £15.95 chicken burger. When it arrived it was a grilled dried piece of chicken in a roll you'd get from a supermarket with some fries thrown on. I left three quarters of it. I elected not to get the cheese on it due to an allergy but it was really tasteless. I did think for that price is was really basic too. A wee side salad would've been good. We asked for the dessert menu. After 20 mins we had to go up and ask the staff if we could order. We did only end up ordering coffees. Had lost the notion for a dessert. Last time we were in the Fox it was so nice. Maybe they were just really busy with the outdoor BBQ and booked out function room and I totally get that but given the competition from the Houston Inn and River Inn they need to up their game food wise. Must add to this review though that the staff were all lovely and a credit to the Fox

There is a good choice of hot food and a selection of fruits. Teas and coffee, fruit juices. You can have the choice of a small plate or a big plate, and with the big plate, you can go back for more if you need it. The atmosphere was good, and for a long while, we were the only people there. My only concern was with the plates, and I think it would be nice to have a plate warmer in place. Its well worth a visit if you are in the srea.. The breakfast was very good.

Went to celebrate a birthday and thought it was a good venue. Good selection of gins, whiskeys and beer on tap. Would recommend

It's been a while since I last visited, as I no longer stay local. The reason for our for being there was to remember and celebrate a great friend who suddenly passed away. Although a sombre meeting, all friends and family made it as celebratory as possible. Food was lovely, and staff were excellent. All areas were spotless. If ever in the area again would definitely visit.

Went into lounge. Pretty janky. Walls covered with bare lining paper. Looks like a squat. Most beers come in at around a fiver, including cans.

The experience was awful. Usually a great pub but I raised concerns about the lock on the disabled toilet. It was starting to fault. Months later, after I advised staff and management about it. I pointed out it was failing, I got locked in! How is a person with disabilities with disabilities able to keep their dignity when the facilities fail us.

I have gone to The Abbey 3 time last year on vacation and 3 more this year. I love the steak and Guinness pie and the chili wings. My wife usually opts for the soup and an entree (often the steak pie) The food is consistent but also fantastic. I'm sure our next visit to Scotland will include many trips to The Abbey!
