Delicious food. Made to feel welcome by the staff. Friendly customers. Situated in a lovely area. Highly recommended

I was unimpressed by the food on offer during my visit. The price of the food did not match the quality. A simple sandwich roll and a few chips for £10 was pushing it. I would expect to pay no more than £8 for this. Cheapest mains were closer to £17. Unlikely to visit again for a lunch catch up with friends.

Had a lovely meal here. Staff were very welcoming and the place is beautiful inside and out. We’ll be coming back!

Lovely location, lovely staff, not sure what is happening with the food though. We have visited on quite a few occasions and it appears to be very hit and miss. As a veggie, there isn’t much choice. The cauliflower steak I had was just a big piece of roasted cauliflower, burnt in areas, with a few smashed roasted potatoes and tsataiki, very little garnish. To be honest I am not a big eater , but I was still hungry after my meal. Quite disappointing to be honest and certainly not worth £17.00. The others in my table had chicken breast- reasonable sized portion and pie , which they seem to enjoy .

As a local resident, I quite like the Fountain as a pub. I visit regularly throughout the week. It has a tremendous set up and lovely interior. Which is very warm and welcoming. But there are a few issues from making it even better, I personally think that they should mix up the beers on tap and change them every couple of months. As seeing the same beers, and drinking them time and time again. Is very boring. As well as, being up bit more lively on the bar snacks, these have somewhat vanished which isn't great either. The local farmers aren't particularly impressed ( me being one of them! ) doth butter no parsnips! The food also needs a lot of attention, some love and consistency. It’s not great. None the less, the staff are amazing. I hope to see some improvement in the coming weeks, otherwise one may have to flock to the Dunkirk. Anyways

Booked a private room upstairs for a family birthday. Staff were lovely, very friendly and accommodating and buffet food was great

We stopped by for Sunday lunch yesterday as we were passing, and very glad that we did! The food was absolutely amazing, genuine compliments to the chef, one of the best Sunday lunches I have ever had - and we will come back purely on how good the food was!

Called last night for food and it was amazing , ordered steak and it was cooked perfection as was everything else on the plate and the cheesecake was out of this world , the staff were great the young man we had that took our order was very polite would definitely go again .

Lovely place, done a cracking job of making it into a country pub. Food was delicious. We will definitely be back

A great location to walk and stop in the restaurant for the lunch ,staff members are super friendly,we had a great experience in the pub for the beginning of new year .and it is dog friendly pub ! food are also delicious too!

Disgraceful Christmas Dinner at this pub 90 pounds a person. Had to ask for more meat as portion miniscule. Turkey no stuffing no sprouts 1 carrot no parsnips no sauces bread apple or cranberry and 2 bits of tenderstem broccoli which had been burnt crispy under grill. Plate swimming in gravy and slopping over sides. Christmas pud apparently decent though my sweet did not work at all. Pear poached in some kind of sugar syrup on a thin slice of soggy cake then custard...what? And crumbled shop bought meringue inedible 4 very sweet components that did not work together. The worst Christmas meal we ever had. Will NEVER go again!

Lovely Sunday roast dinner. However, after we had been served our mains, our drinks took forever to arrive, and we had to ask 3 times to get a pint of Guinness

The servers around always had a horrible look on there faces no smile always turned and gave dirty looks to each other but Mya had the biggest smile you could see in the restaurant. They forgot our pre order on Christmas day and now we have been waiting an hour for everyone else to have deserts and for us to be waiting. The food was lovely nothing wrong at all with the taste and presentation. Mya is amazing she sorted the deserts when they had not arrived and when they ran out of pears. I can’t tell you how amazing she is helped us when no other server would bother to come check.

Excellent food & venue. Look forward to every visit. Wish it was nearer. Just left after a Xmas meal for 12. Absolutely perfect. Thankyou to all the staff. Should have ordered a later taxi.😄. Thankyou Jack & all the team.😚

Perfectly cooked roast beef and lovely vegetables. Nice selection of beers to choose from. And then the best Sticky Toffee Pudding I've had in a while. An excellent Sunday lunch!

First of all let me tell you that we are massive foodies, and having spent some time recently in Dubai we have been spoilt with the food over there which doesn’t compare to the UK, however we just stumbled across this place after a drive out and called in for Sunday dinner and what a treat!!! First class, friendly service from walking through the door. Lovely chilled vibe and ambience and the Sunday lunch was actually the best we’ve ever had. We enjoyed it that much that we’ve booked for Christmas Dinner, despite living an hour away. Jack, it was an absolute pleasure to meet you, keep doing what you do and see you on Xmas day. Lovely welcome, the staff could not have been more friendly, Jake Brook made the best expresso martini I have ever had. He checked in on us regularly, but not too much. Best Brisket burger ever, and the Stilton sauce was wonderful. Thankyou we will be back.

Good food and service. Very practical booths with heaters outside. A lot of dog owners outside. The place needs to be swept better! I've found about 8 glass shards just at the entrance of our booth.

Had a fantastic birthday meal and family gathering for my Mums 85th birthday. We used the private dining room which was perfect. The food was fantastic, we had the various roast dinner options and the fish and chips. The service was spot on and they found the right balance of being attentive whilst leaving us to enjoy the food. Jack (The Manager) was on hand to ensure everything ran smoothly and we had everything we needed. Nothing was too much trouble and we felt welcome and well looked after. Would highly recommend !!!

We just had a lovely meal at The Fountain. The service was spot on, especially Jack and the lovely young man who did the table service. The food was very good and we were made to feel welcome from the start. I had chicken breast from the grill with mash and my husband had the steak and ale pie. We visited with our 2 dogs, which wasn’t a problem. We can definitely recommend The Fountain and will be returning soon.

The Sunday roast is not to be missed - absolutely stunning meat quality and the vegetables are flavoured and created with taste in mind - a credit to the chef. This really isn’t just a a standard Sunday roast. The gravy is lovely, we were early for our booking, accommodated as always with a smile. Jack is a credit to the Fountain team, understaffed when I was there last but didn’t falter at all in standards, customer service and of course a smile. 😊

Such a welcoming pub! Filled with friendly locals and the staff are fantastic. Jack went out of his way to make sure we were comfortable and had plenty of space for our 6 month old and two dogs. Definitely recommend!

If there was an option for more stars, I would have given them. Friendly service from the bar and waiting staff, very welcoming by the management staff, and really nice to see the chef front of house asking opinions on his food. Definitely going back. Family and pet friendly.

Came for dinner this early evening took my mam out for Friday teatime first thing to say the teatime staff were brilliant with us very helpful so polite and just great. We had crab and the pork chop excellent really nice 👌 will be coming back definitely Big shout though to the staff keeping doing what you're doing girls oh and lads lol 😆

Excellent meal at this pub today Sundays are usually all about the roast however just had the best fish & chips for a very long time! Bravo! Huge golden crispy fish, proper perfect chips, mushy peas and tartare sauce. 10/10! Lovely staff & pub decor good & clean

I went to the Fountain for first time yesterday and I was so impressed. It's a truly beautiful pub with old timbers and very tastefully decorated. The food was really good and beautifully presented. The staff were all brilliant and very cheerful and helpful. I will definitely be going back again

We come here often and continue to do so with the atmosphere, service and food as it's great. But I want to shout out Jack who always offers great service and knows customer service, makes us feel welcome and makes us return without a doubt.

Great food, with a nice range of ales. The place has a really nice atmosphere about it. With a nice small reservoir right next to it, it's the perfect place to visit after a short walk.

Pop in occasionally for a pint. Haven't tried the food since opening week after refurbishment. It was very poor that time. Hopefully better by now.

Went here today as my wife's first time out after breaking her leg a week ago. The staff could not of been anymore help, they made sure she was comfortable even bringing a chair to put her leg on. The pri-pri chicken was recommend to us, and wow it didn't disappoint. Highly recommend and we will certainly be visiting again soon.

Jack and Lizzie were absolutely first class had two beautiful sandwiches two excellent Long Island ice teas x fab place and amazing staff also if you get chance try the Pimms x lovely on a summer afternoon 😊

Lovely beer garden/patio area....with a lovely relaxed atmosphere. Sunday lunch was absolutly delicious....and service very quick and efficient. Easy to book. Good selection of drinks. Right next to a lovely reservoir walk and pub is dog friendly too so that's a massive bonus.

Had dinner at The Fountain tonight. If you're into garlic-lathered mushrooms and disappearing staff, this is the place for you! Despite my wife’s garlic and onion allergy, the chef decided to add a generous helping of garlic butter to her meal. When we raised this with the manager, he was very apologetic and graciously deducted the cost of one drink from our bill. After that, it was like we had the plague. All the staff vanished, making it impossible to order another drink until we flagged down a waitress taking an order for a complaining table nearby. The dessert menu must be a well-guarded secret because we were never offered one. Kudos to our waitress who did everything right, only to be reprimanded for the chef's freestyle cooking. Meanwhile, other staff members seemed to be practicing their marathon walking, passing dirty tables multiple times without doing anything. Overall, a memorable experience, just not for the right reasons.

We had a really excellent lunch here, very reasonable prices and excellent service. Would highly recommend and we will be going back!

Had a fantastic Sunday roast here for Father's day. The food and customer service were both excellent.

Thursday. A quiet afternoon but a wonderful pub complimenting the old wooden remnants of its first existence with a sympathetic modern finish. Service by Jack and his team was first rate and the light meal afternoon sandwiches were more than satisfactory. Thought the crisps undervalued the dish whereas chips would better the dish. Impressed with the size of outdoor and covered seating/dining areas. Will visit again certainly.

Only called for a drink but we will go back for food. Good if you have a dog.

Just been for a meal at the Fountain Inn Penistone. Three of our meals were great. The mixed chicken skewers however were not. Dont buy them. Firstly it was one skewer not pleural, comprising of one cube of chicken, one cube of beef and a chipolata sausage with some veg in-between. Served with chips, cooked tomato and very strangely a hugh and i mean huge raw portobello mushroom with cold green garlic paste on top. We initially mistook the mushroom for a large brown bread roll !! I wish id taken a photo. My daughter wouldnt complain but my curiosity just got the better of me and i had to ask the waiter if it was normal to serve the mushroom cold and raw ?! He politely said he didnt know, the menu was new but he would ask the chef. After a few minutes he came back and said that the chef was French and that he had told him that this is the way they serve mushrooms in France as they go soggy if cooked. To which i replied, well hes in England and we like our mushrooms cooked and may be he needs to consider the English palette. My daughters meal was late out. I believe the French chef just forgot to cook the mushroom and that the garlic paste was meant to melt over the cooked mushroom but instead of being honest and admitting his mistake he wants us to believe thats how it should be served. Mushroom aside, one cube of beef, one cube of chicken and one skinny sausage for £18.95 just wasnt worth it. The lovely waiter tried to compensate by taking a pint of guiness of the bill which was a nice jesture, but it has definitely tainted our experience. I doubt we will return,

Just been up to the fountain for the first time in many years and what a joyful experience it was, the building looks amazing, the staff were super lovely and the food was great, will definitely be going back and highly recommend 😊

Absolutely shocking customer service from waitress/bar person. Ordered 2 roast of the day sandwiches because it was gammon, The gammon was lovely but they tried to make the sandwiches look twice the size by putting cut off fat in the middle. When they came round and asked was everything ok, we said no look at this lot to which the waitress replied well that's the trouble with gammon its full of fat. It was not cheap and will never go again.

£18 for a vegetable stir fry on a Sunday Set Menu seems quite overpriced. It was nice, don't get me wrong, but £18!? Other than that, staff are lovely, beer garden is great, and food was good. Just wish there was an alternative option to the Sunday Roast Menu on a Sunday. Even just a lighter bites lunch menu or something.

Have enjoyed eating out here in the past but not the last time. Staff looked miserable and service was very slow. Food has changed too and not as good as it was.

Beautiful pub in a beautiful countryside. Staff very pleasant and polite. Just a few tweaks in the kitchen needed. My partner had the homemade pie (questionable whether it is home made 🤔) lots of pastry with not so much filling, I had the prawn sandwich which was really a basic supermarket sandwich unfortunately. The bread was so thin that you couldn't hold the sandwich without the prawns slipping out. The prawns were adequate, the sauce far too runny as though the prawns hadn't been drained enough. The triple cooked chips were borderline burnt. It's not a cheap place and there prices are not consistent to what is advertised on their website. It's a shame The Ford in Holmfirth closed as they did meals for a fraction of these.

Went for mothers day i have to say i have never had a more disorganised and poor quality food. i chose the belly pork for a main and got rolled pork vegetable were good but cold, no cutlery until after dessert was served, sticky toffee pudding was dry sauce was burnt so tasted bitter. very disappointed will not be returning

Called in for lunch on returning to Cheshire from North Yorkshire. Easy to find using SatNav and lots of parking spaces. Dogs welcome. Good menu and great food. Close to A628 Sheffield to Manchester road which is a route full of wonderful scenery.

We went for a Sunday lunch, and ended up sat in the function room as we were a large party. This worked great for us, and the food was amazing. Best Sunday dinner I’ve had out in a long long time.

Our first ever Valentine's Night in 12 years... We don't celebrate it or acknowledge it, ever... However, we both saw the menu for the night at The Fountain a few weeks ago , separately, and literally thought we could eat everything on there, again without even mentioning it to each other. So it's funny that my husband texted me the menu and asked if I'd be his Valentine... 🤣 I said yes because I love good food! So we decided to go there last night, just for the food, as we kept reminding each other. I can honestly say that it's the first time in years I have loved every mouthful of my three course meal. It's the first time in a very looooong time that Nathan hasn't had to moan or bite his tongue about the food. It was absolutely delicious! I could have licked all of my plates clean but thought I might look like a savage so didn't. The onion soup served in an onion was genius and delicious and reminded me of home with the layer of cheese on top. The tofu and beetroot risotto was a delight of sweet, salty and sour I didnt know I needed. I wasn't overfaced with copious amounts to the point of feeling guilty for not eating anything off my main. I ate it all in record time! I enjoyed the dessert because it wasn't overly sweet just well balanced. And the ones who know me realise that I need crisps after 2 mouthfuls of anything sweet. That did not happen, I wanted to lick the coulis.🤦‍♀️😋 The food was classy, well presented, well balanced and the pub itself is beautiful, has loads of atmosphere and great staff from what I can see. Mia served our table and she was lovely and it was great to see the manager Jack being efficient welcoming punters but also making sure everyone at the tables were happy! Wow! Maybe we actually need to go out for Valentine's Day more often? 🤔 It was a faultless evening.

I’ve eaten a lot of Sunday roasts in my life and the one here is top tier. The staff are friendly but sometimes it’s busy and it takes a while to get someone’s attention.

First visit for us and had a lovely meal. I had homemade pie and it was really tasty, good sized portions. The drinks menu has a really good selection too. The owner was really accommodating. We will definitely return.

Booked a Sunday dinner here as all other local eateries were fully booked. We were told to be prompt as it was busy. However we were the first to order food and only another table was taken. Having said that the Sunday roast was very nice. We had duo of ham and sirloin beef. One ham was very fatty - end pieces, but I was impressed with the tasty vegetables and huge Yorkshire puddings. We were also pleased they accommodated for dogs as again another local eatery said they could only accommodate dogs outside! In Winter? I would recommend this establishment and the Sunday roast, sorry didn't have room for a dessert.

We used to go to this pub, but not anymore, the quality has gone too far down, The management have made cut backs, and it shows, small very processed fish, over cooked chips, and one time we were sent out meat, our guests were vegetarian, we are not going again, enough is enough. We are going somewhere else.

Breakfast with Santa (who was lovely). It is a shame the food wasn't. Only 3 items on the menu, over priced, slow to come out (especially for a menu/event targeted at children). Had to pre-book to, so much have had a better idea of numbers. Took close to an hour for food. Worst coffee I've had anywhere, had to send it back (this was taken off the bill). Ridiculously over priced for what you get too. Not for me again (for food at least).

Dropped by for lunch. Had a pretty good chicken and bacon ciabatta sandwich plus some fries. Not a very interesting selection of beer available though the two real ales (Landlord and Bradfield Belgian Blue) were in good condition. Could have been warmer too - the warm bit with a fire was cordoned off for a group. Dog-friendly.

Sorry! The food was not enjoyable at all. Staff polite & friendly but the £60+ spent on the menu was a total disappointment. Will not be visiting again, would rather eat at Toby Carvery.

We’ve eaten here several times and the food is always delicious, the staff are attentive and professional and the atmosphere is always lovely.

See below: We asked for a boiling water top up for an Americano and we never got it When our food arrived we were asked what sauce were wanted and never got them No-one asked us whether we enjoyed our food (we had!) And nobody bothered with desserts or the bill (I had to go to the bar)

We had a great experience on Saturday. We were a large group booking. Including 5 children. The staff were very attentive, and the food was fabulous. Certainly all freshly made. Definitely recommend.

Super 75th birthday meal with my lovely wife. Recommend the battered fish and the pork loin. Great selection of puddings. Lovely decoration and seating with large outside area when weather permits. Friendly and efficient service.

Not happy! Ordered the steak and ale pie with chips and veg, well four pieces of veg. The pie needed a steak knife to cut the crust and the filling had that much salt I only ate half, did mention it to the chap who collected and he said I will knock a drink off the bill which he didn’t and I only had half a Guineas anyway! It’s local to me but shall not be going back for a while.

We came in for a meal after a walk round the reservoir. It had a lovely warm atmosphere and our dog was made very welcome. We didn’t book but there were some tables free. We perused the menu and gave the waiter our order. The food was freshly cooked and tasted delicious!! It was hearty and filling, and just what we needed after some fresh air!!

amazing little spot for food & drinks. food is a solid 10/10, and isn't expensive. atmosphere is really nice, it isnt loud like most pubs are nowadays, its nice and quiet with a really warm 'country pub' sort of feel. staff are also all very friendly and welcoming.

1st visit Pre booked table for 2 was quite evening, sat at table quickly and drinks order taken, walk ins were asked where they'd like to sit, we soon discovered we had been sat next to door through to toilet and another door through to seating outside, so could not relax as people constantly walking past your shoulder, drafts from both doors. Wish we'd have asked to move even though half way through our meal before the foot fall started, seems if you don't book you get better table Pie was awesome great food.
