The fish bar in Powys

Bought fish and chips. I drove only 4 miles and ate them out of the box so no plates to make them go cool. Chips were hot and tasty, fish and peas were lukewarm at best. Fish batter was too greasy. Liquid grease leaked out of box and ran into canvas shopping bag, clothes and car seat leaving ugly stains. Bad oily aftertaste. So disappointing. really wanted to love this fish and chips, having looked forward so much to tasting it. I travelled a long way for them because they were given an award. Not sure If I will give them a second go.

Always go to this fish and chip shop when i come on holiday to wales. Great fish and chips, best in the area. Would and do recommend to others.

Stay at love2stay and nipped down to the fish bar this evening and was so pleased we did the staff were friendly and the food was excellent and great value for money

We were staying local so decided to try the chippy on Friday night for tea for all the family. Food was lovely, we had fish and chips, nuggets and chips and cheeseburgers and some curry sauce everyone enjoyed it, very reasonably priced and staff were friendly. Thank you so much

Popped in to get fish and chips for my wife and I on Friday night. Simply awful! Oily undercooked chips and the fish was barely cooked with soggy and very pale batter. Went straight in the bin! From previous reviews, not what we expected. Very small portions too.

We visited this chip shop after it was highly recomnended. We should’ve all had fish n chips as they were lovely. Unfortunately myself and my daughter ordered curry rice n chips. The curry was unedable. It went straight in the bin as it had curdled and tasted sour. We were staying too far away to return so we shared the two fish between the four of us!!

We visited here on our last night while staying nearby (Maesmwar Farm), we both agreed that the chips were cooked to perfection, they were a lovely colour and had just the right amount of crunch. The fish was a little too oily however was still so tasty. Would definately go here if we visited again.

Excellent food and service good value for money has to be the best chip shop I have ever visited and I have been to quite few I can not put in to words how good this place is I probably go at least once a week I can not recommend this place highly enough every time I go there is usually a queue which goes to show how popular this place is also the food is sustainability sourced which is a good thing

We’ve eaten from here a few times now as we live locally. The fish is always perfectly cooked with crispy, light batter and the chips are lovely too. Customer service is great, happy smiley staff. Highly recommended!

First time we've oredered from this chippy and chips n fish were pretty good, Unfortunately, two of our party ordered the cheese & onion pasty, which was almost all pastry with a small amount of cheesy goop inside - not at all tasty. I'll have to try other pies or even the faggots in future.

We called here on a trip up from South Wales to do some walking. We've noticed the sign a few times over the years as we have passed through Caersws and as we did not know what would be open in our destination we decided to stop en-route for some food here. It will definitely not be the last time - absolutely delicious food!

This is our chippy of choice travelling from Newtown for three chips. Tried the special flamin' fish burger but without the chroizo & it was amazing. The guacamole was obviously "home made" & seriously the best I've ever had, brioche bun toasted to perfection, with a perfectly moist mini fish inside. Served with the nicest chips as always. Never been disappointed with the service or food from here - highly recommend this place

Went there Thursday night 22/10 on the way to my caravan we have in the past used this chippy which was quite ok unfortunately as we were running late unfortunately on this occasion it was disgusting the fish was hard and very greasy and the chips looked as though they had been cooked recooked and scraped from the bottom of the chip pan I squashed one in my fingers and the fat that came was like a dripping tap the half edible ones was like eating a block of lard I spent just over 14 pounds for something we put in the bin will not ever use this chippy again if you like eating over sized french fries that’s dripping in fat feel free to eat there

Visited twice while on holiday in Trefeglwys. There was a problem with our first order related to 393louised's review so if you are reading her review, it was true at the time that the chips were too greasy, but it was an isolated incident and the owners quickly identified and resolved the problem and we really enjoyed our second order of lovely white, moist fish & crispy chips. The owners obviously take a lot of pride in their business and were very communicative, friendly and helpful.

after seeing the reviews we thought need to give it a try since we are on holiday...wish we hadn't bothered now. The food was very greasy and the chips had a puddle of oil in the trays. Two of us had upset stomachs after eating from here and the other 2 didn't eat what they had after trying it. Price was reasonable for what we ordered.We phoned and was given a collection time which was good.

Ordered food from here whilst staying in the area. We thought we’d give it a try after reading all the hype on here. The hype is true....the chips are the best we’ve ever had!! Only wish we lived closer. Shop very clean and taking Covid measures seriously.

Been driving past for years, about 5 years ago I was going past with a friend who mentioned there's a chippy down there and it's great. That was it, thought no more about it until Monday before last when my wife and I popped in just for chips. She went in, I waited in the car. Well I have been to chippys all over the UK in the past 50 years, I even worked in one as a teenager and I have to say I have never, not even close, had better chips.The chips were fantastic, crispy on the outside fluffy on the inside, just the right size and served in a recycleable paper box. Fantastic, unbeatable, real quality, how chips should be.

Stopping locally for a few days and there are limited takeaways unless you head into Newtown. Stopped by here and was amazed at the prices of fish and chips compared to at home., great value for money and tasted good too, both the fish and chips were lovely and fresh and not too greasy!

Best fish and chip shop by a mile! We have a caravan in the hills above Caersws, we never stay without a good old chippy supper! It’s always buzzing, the staff are friendly, the food is delicious, crisp and dry (not the oil!) What’s not to like?!

Fabulous fish & chip shop. We are staying near Caersws for 4 nights and fancied some fish & chips. What a wonderful place. We had 2 fish, 1 large chips and mushy peas for £12! Fantastic price. Fish was fresh, pure white and not greasy at all. Chips were piping hot and nice and fresh. Lovely place!

Took a meal into my sisters to save cooking. A truly amazing feast! So much on offer on the menu and it is all freshly cooked too. If you have a big appetite you must pay them a visit! Worth at least five stars!

The Fish bar has had an excellent refurbishment over the last 12 months, quality and portion size is consistently good. They have experimented with various packaging to improve the heat retention. In general I can thoroughly recommend, the only negative is that parking can be an issue, but many alternative sources of parking can be had that are less than about 100 yards away.

Freshly cooked and excellent quality. Cant ask for more than that !! Had only heard good things so gave it a try. Really good.

Remarkable Fish, chips, pies and sausages We have tried them all. The most important thing for us is that when you walk in just after them opening. The fish and chips are freshly cooked. Unlike a lot of Chippies around this neck of the woods. There is also a lot to eat, fantastic value for money. We travel 40 mile round trip for these meals! Absolutely marvelous alround!!

I was visiting near by and decided on a chippy tea. Tons of chips, beautiful fish in light crispy batter, very tasty mince and onion pie and lovely curry sauce. I took away some local ice-cream, even one for dogs, and my dog loved it. I'm sorry I didn't catch the staff names but the young girl serving was very friendly and helpful, the frier was equally friendly with great knowledge of acrylamides and IPA beers. Great quality food and a good price too. If I'm in the area again I'll definitely be popping in again.

With a multi-awarded and excellent competitor on my doorstep, this place has been forgotten by ourselves, despite only being 30 mins away. It exists in a tiny village just off one of the main North-South Wales road, but the food and service was of a high standard. Within 15 mins of opening on a Saturday afternoon, the limited-space place (with no dining area) was full of waiting customers, and this came as no surprise once our mouths had been stuffed. Chips were excellent and well-presented, and I personally found the addition of smoked paprika to the s+v an interesting alternative. My son thought his scampi's batter was too crumbly, but it looked and tasted fine.

Nice meal boxed for convenience to take away. The batter on the fish was delightfully light. Check opening hours which are limited.

Just 10 miles up the road and in fact the nearest Fish and Chip shop to me, I find the Caersws Fish Bar. The food is delicious and of a very high standard. After living just up the road in the next village for 5 years, tonight decided to try their fish and chips. My wife had plaice and chips and I had scampi and chips.The food was cooked to order, to an excellent quality and reasonably priced. Will now be going more often. They also have a 5 star hygiene rating.

We were holidaying in the area and we always read up on the reviews to see what local eateries have to offer. After reading good reviews, we decided to try this with some reservations as we have been disappointed before but not this time. The fish was one of the freshest we have had and we live in an area with an award winning fish and chip shop for bench marking. The chips are also freshly cooked so not disappointed at all. If we are ever in the area again, will definitely come back for more.

During a five-day stay in the area we visited this place twice for a takeaway. On both occasions we had perfectly cooked food and would not hesitate to visit again if in the area. Full allergen information was very clearly displayed.

Ate her recently and was delicious, food is served in cute paper bags, the portion is deceiving we was looking at the bags wondering if there was any food in them but when we put it on the plate we wasn't disappointed there was loads of chips and my fish was big. Will definitely visit again

Service was fast, food was fresh, the fish didn't have that 'old oil' taste like a lot of fish shops, it was fresh. The shop itself was very clean and had a 5 star food hygiene rating. Live in Newtown, but will coming here to get my fish and chips from now on.

Have bought takeaway here twice in one week.We ate fish and chips the first time and were delighted with it - no skin on the fish thank goodness. On the second occasion I had the chicken curry and chips and hubby had battered sausage and chips. Portions are large - in a good way and takeaway served in thermal bags which are excellent at their job and do not leak.I'd happily visit again and recommend the Caersws Fish Bar to anyone!

Eaten here many years ago but was told still as good and good to see it still is. Excellent portions all freshly cooked and service with a smile. Parking available right outside. They also take card which is good.

Had family of 8 staying nearby and wanted fish take out. The fish and chips were delicious. Not greasy and light batter on fish. Very reasonable prices too and the place was immaculately clean and staff very friendly. Don’t often review but given the quality and value had to commend to others.

We were staying at the nearby Trewythen lodges and stopped here as it had been recommended. We were not disappointed. I had fish and chips and my husband had battered sausage and chips. Both were beautiful and staff were polite and friendly. Highly recommended.

However this time we just could not resist and decided to forget the diet for a day.The staff were very friendly and the shop is spotless. Food is freshly cooked and attention to detail makes it delicious. On Friday night we stopped for fresh, crispy fish-bites and great chips. After 2 hours in the car and with only 20 minutes to go everyone wanted to enjoy the fish supper "as soon as" so we stayed outside the choppy and scoffed the lot. Quality is high and prices excellent. 10/10

When we moved to the area, the deciding factor was this wonderful chip shop. The chips are double cooked, the fish excellent quality. They also sell an excellent home made chicken curry .. great place and great value.

After reading the reviews I decided to visit here tonight. Cod was lovely and a decent size at £3.50, small chips at £1.70 were a very tiny portion indeed, certainly not value for money.

Fuimos a este chippie ayer de camino a casa después de ver las águilas pescadoras en Lago Clewedog.Qué delicia! Instalaciones impecables, con una buena selección de alimentos. Sólo dos opciones para vegetarianos (no los rollitos de primavera), pero tenía un vegetariano berger, que era deliciosa. Sin duda, las mejores patatas fritas que he tenido en un fish and chips, crujientes y como patatas fritas, no es el típico pasada asuntos uno normalmente experiencias de chippies. Mi marido y amigo tenía una mini pescado y patatas fritas cada uno, lo que era de un tamaño generoso y me dijeron que estaban sabrosos con pasta y unas. Y lo mejor de todo, por bolsas de papel reciclable no paquetes de poliestireno. Excelente relación calidad-precio. Altamente recomendado.

Estuvimos aquí en Bank Holiday el lunes. Esperamos un par de minutos para los peces, como se esperaba. Absolutamente delicioso. Como la ensalada llena el pan de pita. Disfrutamos de cada chip de última viendo la puesta de sol desde el aparcamiento de enfrente! Una parada perfecta en un largo viaje desde el norte hasta el sur de Gales.

Hemos estado aquí varias veces y no podemos quejarnos del lugar para el servicio y la comida, el personal es siempre muy agradable y nos encanta tanto el pescado y las patatas fritas y los aviones Jumbo y patatas fritas, salchichas, recomiendo encarecidamente este bar de pescado.

Often stop here for a take-away fish and chips meal on the way back to our touring caravan holiday home at Dol-Llys Caravan Pk. in Llanidloes. Always nice and hot fresh fish and crispy chips, and good value prices.

We live about 7 miles from here and usually collect food on our way home. The food is always good. The packaging is board and paper bags so can be recycled and the staff are always nice. A really good chipshop in my opinion.
