Great wee hotel, very good value for money. Had no issues that previous guests have mentioned, room was clean and tidy and no issues with the hot water. Hotel staff were all kind and friendly. Would definitely stay again

Staff great from the second we arrived, we arrived late due to train issues but they were very friendly and helpful the entire stay. Had an issue with our shower one morning but this was fixed same day so can’t complain at all, would stay again 👍

We recently stayed in Suite 1 at The Fig Tree Hotel in Markinch, and while the room itself was pleasant, a few inconveniences left us with a disappointing experience. **Room:** The suite was spacious, clean, and comfortable. Positioned directly above the pub, I was initially concerned about noise, but it turned out to be surprisingly quiet, allowing for a peaceful night’s rest. The décor was tasteful, and the bed was comfortable, making it a welcoming space after a long day. **Issues with Hot Water:** Unfortunately, the biggest drawback of our stay was the lack of hot water on our first night and most of the following morning. This was especially inconvenient as we were preparing for a wedding. However, the staff did their best to rectify the situation by offering us access to another room so we could take a hot shower, which was a helpful gesture. **Breakfast Discrepancy:** One thing we looked forward to was the breakfast offering mentioned in the welcome book, which highlighted a bacon or egg roll. However, on both mornings, only toast and cereal were available. This was a bit disappointing, as we were expecting more based on the provided information. **Housekeeping:** Another downside was that the room wasn’t cleaned, nor were fresh towels provided during our stay. Given the price and expectation for a suite, we would have expected at least a quick tidy-up or towel refresh. **Overall Experience:** While the room itself was lovely, the issues with hot water, the incomplete breakfast offering, and lack of housekeeping left us feeling underwhelmed. The Fig Tree Hotel has potential, but unfortunately, our stay was marred by these inconveniences.

I recently stayed at this hotel and was left thoroughly disappointed. First of all, the advertising is completely misleading. They boast about luxurious amenities, but in reality, the shower facilities are subpar at best. The water pressure was terrible, and the temperature fluctuated constantly, making it nearly impossible to enjoy a decent shower. The management is another issue—they're dishonest and seem completely unbothered by the state of their hotel. I brought up several concerns, and while they agreed to refund me due to the poor experience, I'm still waiting for that refund weeks later with no resolution in sight. The noise levels are unbearable. Every night, there was loud music and shouting until the early hours of the morning, making it impossible to get any sleep. It felt more like a nightclub than a hotel. The cleanliness of the hotel is appalling. The floors were filthy, and worst of all, they didn’t even bother to change the bed sheets! It was obvious that the room hadn’t been properly cleaned before my stay. All in all, this place is a disaster. Avoid it if you value cleanliness, honesty, and a good night's rest. And don’t trust their refund promises—I'm still waiting for mine!

Very tired rooms and a poor experience. The bathroom is in particular poor condition with dirty shower head (and very low pressure), damaged floor, cracked shower panel and loose toilet seat. The bedroom had one broken and one missing bulb in the light fitting. The curtain was thin and did not reach the length of the room allowing light in. There was no handbook to advise if there was a breakfast service (don’t think there was) or what the check out procedure was. The WiFi did not work and there was no number to call once the staff finished at 6. I also noted that the front door appeared to be open all night. In the morning there were no staff around when I went to check out at 8am so had to leave my key in the room. Overall a very poor experience.

We booked a room that had a bath in the middle a the room and we messaged them when we booked it to double check that was the room we had and they confirmed. We turned up and they said someone has been staying in that room for 3 weeks and then said the bath was broken so which one was true? Also said they served food til 2pm and when we got there they said the chef doesn’t work here anymore. The shower was like a drip and I’m not exaggerating and it was freezing into the bargain. Bathroom door wouldn’t open properly. The only draft beer they had was tennents and they had to phone the manager because my girlfriend asked a cocktail. Music was played very loud all night so couldn’t get to sleep. Only saving grace were the bar staff who were very helpful

Got this as a Xmas gift. Not much round about but you have a good bus service and a train station on your doorstep. Room was lovely. Food was excellent and the staff were very friendly and approachable. Will definitely go back again.

My friend and I stayed at the Fig Tree Hotel this weekend and it was amazing. The staff were very welcoming and that created such a great first impression which stayed with us for the entire weekend. The atmosphere was relaxed and the food was delicious and really well presented. So looking forward to my next visit.

The coffee was tasty. Unfortunately only one person serving in the restaurant and the bar. So service was unbearably slow. Not that person's fault. Has to be a management issue.

My husband and I took our 2 year old grand daughter to the soft play area at lunchtime last Saturday. A lovely guy showed us in and got us seated with a high chair. We both had macaroni cheese with chips ( I asked for garlic bread but they had run out). The mac cheese was from the adult menu but our grand daughter had nuggets, chips and corn on the cob from kids menu. The mac cheese wasn't the best I've ever had but it was OK. Didn't like the chips. The salad was nice. I was back last night, 3 adults and 4 kids. I had the kids mac cheese as I wasn't overly hungry. 2 of the children had this aswell. They're 11 years old and the portion was tiny. Basically a table spoon in a small ashit type plate and 2 tiny bits of garlic bread! It was also nasty and stodgy. We eat out a lot and for the same price, we could have had 10 times better meals anywhere else but chose here for the soft play area. The other 2 adults had the nashville chicken burger but again said it was just ok. The restuarant was quite cold, floors were dirty, main toilets were disgusting, very short staffed, and we waited 25 minutes to order our 1st drink, then another 15 minutes to order food. Will give this place a miss from now on.

Were recommended this place by a friend and they were not wrong, a seafood lovers heaven.had freshly made crab sandwiches and sat at the benches outside. Bought a selection of dressed crab, langoustine and various pates to take away. Absolutely delicious and great friendly service with a smile which is very rare these days. Highly recommend. 😃

Having always enjoyed meals at The Doll’s House we imagined this was a mere name change, and were drawn in by the offer of a reasonably priced set menu all day Wednesday and Thursday. Inside the decor was smart enough and the waitress pleasant. However they were unaware of the set menu offer clearly advertised outside, and then said they’d still put our meal through at that price so long as we didn’t order anything expensive ! This wasn’t easy as five dishes were already sold out by 7.30, leaving little choice. The soups were ok, as was my deer, but my wife’s ratatouille was the most ridiculous item I’ve ever seen offered as main dish- three slices of undercooked courgette, a few tomatoes swimming in a watery sauce. We skipped desserts and were presented with a bill of £72, the manager having forgotten her promise. On appeal she applied a discount, but £58 was still very expensive for an experience that could charitably be described as poor. I’d steer well clear - there is no shortage of places to eat in St Andrews.
